In this episode, we connect with research scientist and C60 specialist Ken Swartz, known as "Ken the Scientist," to explore Carbon 60 (C60), the science behind the molecule, and its growing presence in conversations around cellular health, oxidative stress, and longevity. Ken's interest in C60 began while working on fusion reactor technology and researching the effects of radiation. His work introduced him to Buckminsterfullerene, a unique carbon molecule with properties that sparked his interest in its potential applications beyond the laboratory. What began as part of his scientific research eventually became the focus of his career. During this conversation, Ken breaks down what C60 is, how it interacts with free radicals, and why researchers have become interested in its possible relationship with oxidative stress and mitochondrial function… Join in now to explore: The science behind Carbon 60 and Buckminsterfullerene. How C60 interacts with free radicals and oxidative stress. Ken's background in research science and fusion technology. Why C60 has attracted attention in mitochondrial and cellular health. Ken is the founder and Chief Science Officer of C60 Purple Power, where he has focused on the research, development, and production of C60 products. With a background in laboratory research and applied science, he brings a technical perspective to a something that continues to generate interest across the health, wellness, and longevity communities. There was a time when scientists could only read our biology, then came an advance with their ability to edit it and now it’s a moment to write a whole new chapter in evolution through synthetic biology, made possible in large part, you guessed it by artificial intelligence.  Breakthroughs in AI, gene editing and synthetic biology are coming together to make this an unprecedented time in the history of life. Evolution, and its randomness, have left us with bodies that could benefit from our ability to make adjustments–like repairing faulty genes and having the ability to intervene in the complex systems that drive disease.  Sounds futuristic?  And a bit scary?  The technology is neutral.  It’s how it is applied.  In benevolent hands, and with regulatory safeguards, it may make possible advances unimaginable just decades ago.  Our guest, Dr. Adrian Woolfson is the author of “On the Future of the Species: Authoring Life by Means of Artificial Biological Intelligence.”  This is probably your first time diving into this fascinating topic.  Advances suggest it will become part of the scientific lexicon before you know it.

Inside each of us lives a bustling community of microbes; tiny organisms that outnumber our human cells. They're there from the very moment we're born, shaping our immune system and influencing our long-term health. The science of the microbiome is evolving rapidly, but one thing is clear: We need to take care of these microbes so that they can take care of us. Today, I'm joined by Dr. Suzanne Devkota and Tim Spector to explore how our gut bacteria protect us from disease and what we can do to strengthen this vital partnership.

Marianne De Backer is the CEO of Vir Biotechnology, a company developing treatments that harness the power of the immune system to fight serious infectious diseases and cancer. Vir Biotechnology's current clinical trials include a registrational program in chronic hepatitis delta, a rare, often fatal liver disease, as well as two Phase 1 trials of PRO-XTEN™ dual-masked T-cell engagers (TCEs), one targeting HER-2 and the other targeting PSMA, each in heavily pre-treated cancer patients. TCEs have shown tremendous potential but have been limited due to toxicity challenges. The PRO-XTEN™ technology keeps the TCEs masked until they reach the tumor microenvironment, potentially mitigating the toxicity of TCEs and allowing them to unleash their tremendous potential to destroy cancer cells.  Marianne explains, “Vir Biotechnology is an immunology company, and that means that we are really developing treatments that take advantage of the power of basically the patient's own immune system to fight a variety of diseases. We have actually four clinical-stage programs in infectious disease and oncology, and a number of preclinical programs as well. And our most advanced program is to treat chronic hepatitis delta. That is actually a disease caused by a tiny virus, but it's causing liver cancer and is often fatal.” “We have recently initiated our registrational phase 3 program. It's called ECLIPSE. We had previously shown some very compelling data with one of our regimens for treating this disease. We're really excited about progressing that program. And the rest of our clinical pipeline includes a series of so-called PRO-XTEN™ masked T-cell engagers, or in short, TCEs, for the treatment of metastatic solid tumors.”   Vir Biotechnology has exclusive rights to the PRO-XTEN™ masking platform for oncology and infectious disease. Episode 312 People have been given genetically engineered microbes to prevent a common health condition - and it worked. The gut microbiome is now known to be associated with many health conditions - and in this case, the team managed to treat 9 people who get recurring kidney stones. With the gut's links to mental health, cancer and more, could engineered microbes be used to treat more conditions in the future? Is 1.5C dead? It's looking increasingly likely that we're going to breach 1.5C of global warming - the goal set out in the Paris agreement. So do we need to set a new goal now? As scientists come up with alternative numbers to aim for, many are worried that moving the goalposts will kill climate ambition. But is there a middle ground that keeps everyone happy? Where are all the aliens? We may now have a solution to the famous Fermi paradox, which questions why we've never met anyone else in the universe, despite the existence of many Earth-like planets. And it's all to do with tectonic plates - a geological phenomenon that may be rare outside of Earth, helping complex life to emerge on our planet.  Chapters: (00:39) Genetically modified gut microbes (07:03) Setting a new goal for global warming (17:20) Solving the Fermi paradox Hosted by Rowan Hooper and Penny Sarchet, with guests Grace Wade, Madeleine Cuff, Alex Wilkins, Ilana Seid, Robert Stern and Taras Gerya. By now, many of you have heard of my coined term, The Mitochondrial Triad, which comprises the three most effective and efficacious ways (in my opinion) to optimize mitochondrial function. At the end of the day, mitochondrial function is the foundation of wellness and longevity until proven otherwise. With that being said, The Triad is not set in stone and is fluid based on new information, research, etc., meaning it could grow to a quad, quint and beyond. However, it would take a powerful modality, molecule, etc. with rigorous studies to make the cut. But by the end of today's conversation with renowned pharmacist and author, Dr. Nayan Patel, the case can be made that glutathione should be heavily considered. The kicker with glutathione is that we produce it endogenously, so we have some control over its abundance or depletion in our body. After all, it is the master antioxidant in our body and quenches oxidative stress, so given its powerful electron-donating properties (similar, but not exactly the same as methylene blue and C60), you can imagine the health benefits it provides when at proper levels and what happens when our body is depleted.Dr. Patel is a sought after pharmacist, wellness expert, and thought leader in his industry. He has been working with physicians since 1999 to custom develop medication for their clients and design a patient-specific drug and nutrition regimen. He has been the pharmacist of choice to celebrities, CEOs and physicians themselves. He recently published his first comprehensive book, The Glutathione Revolution. After 11 years of clinical research on the master antioxidant, glutathione, Dr. Patel and his team developed a patented technology to deliver glutathione topically, changing the game on how best to absorb GSH systemically. From this technology he additionally developed The Auro GSH Antioxidant Delivery System to create a skincare line to deliver antioxidants more efficiently and effectively than ever before at potent concentrations. If you found the information in today's episode with Dr. Nayan Patel particularly interesting and/or compelling, please share it with a family member, friend, colleague and/or anyone that you think could benefit and be illuminated by this knowledge. Eugene introduces the concept of false selves and explores the formation of maladaptive behaviors rooted in misconceptions about one's worth and purpose. The discussion delves into the societal normalization of mental and physical illness, highlighting the pitfalls of relying on conventional, symptom-centric healthcare.   Eugene guides the audience through a thought-provoking journey, tracing the origins of individuals' false selves to early childhood and societal influences. He emphasizes the significance of identifying these false beliefs, as they often lead to maladaptive behaviors and poor lifestyle choices. The duo navigates through themes like love-hate relationships, core values, and the purpose of the central nervous system, revealing how these factors shape one's health trajectory. Eugene challenges listeners to discard their false selves, prompting introspection and self-inquiry as keys to genuine transformation.   Key Takeaways:   False selves, formed in early life, contribute to maladaptive behaviors and poor health choices. Identifying triggers can lead to discovering false cores and fears that drive unhealthy patterns. Shifting focus from symptom management to self-inquiry is crucial for genuine well-being.   Resources:   Website: https://www.trufkinathletics.com/  IG: https://www.instagram.com/eugene_trufkin/  Podcast: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-ZS-3YJxVRCunXnsSLyqjQ  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eugene-trufkin-28161a223/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/EugeneTrufkin  Enneagram personality test    Website:https://milliondollarbodylabs.com/  "The Million Dollar Body Method" by Nate Palmer: http://getnatesbook.com
