In this podcast episode, Nate engages in a profound conversation with Eugene Trufkin, a health and fitness expert, unraveling the complexities of the mind-body connection. Eugene introduces the concept of false selves and explores the formation of maladaptive behaviors rooted in misconceptions about one's worth and purpose. The discussion delves into the societal normalization of mental and physical illness, highlighting the pitfalls of relying on conventional, symptom-centric healthcare.   Eugene guides the audience through a thought-provoking journey, tracing the origins of individuals' false selves to early childhood and societal influences. He emphasizes the significance of identifying these false beliefs, as they often lead to maladaptive behaviors and poor lifestyle choices. The duo navigates through themes like love-hate relationships, core values, and the purpose of the central nervous system, revealing how these factors shape one's health trajectory. Eugene challenges listeners to discard their false selves, prompting introspection and self-inquiry as keys to genuine transformation.   Key Takeaways:   False selves, formed in early life, contribute to maladaptive behaviors and poor health choices. Identifying triggers can lead to discovering false cores and fears that drive unhealthy patterns. Shifting focus from symptom management to self-inquiry is crucial for genuine well-being.   Resources:   Website: https://www.trufkinathletics.com/  IG: https://www.instagram.com/eugene_trufkin/  Podcast: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-ZS-3YJxVRCunXnsSLyqjQ  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eugene-trufkin-28161a223/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/EugeneTrufkin  Enneagram personality test    Website:https://milliondollarbodylabs.com/  "The Million Dollar Body Method" by Nate Palmer: http://getnatesbook.com

Food is fuel. It's not supposed to be used for entertainment, celebration, emotions, or anything other than to fuel our bodies. Living enzymes with life vitality force are in the whole foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and nuts. A plant-based diet is also known as plant-forward or plant-prioritizing. This diet mostly plants. Most of the time. A vegan diet is a morally guided plan that won't consume any product or food made from animals including leather or honey. A success tip is to crowd out less healthy foods with vibrant, whole, fresh fruits and vegetables rather than focusing on cutting things out. In the United States, we're living longer lives, but we're living sicker lives. We are living in the "Age of Man Made Illness" as opposed to Paleolithic Age. Most of these illnesses are caused by stress and food choices. It's not normal to feel bad all the time. Every meal you are either feeding disease or fighting disease. One simple thing you can do is choose to consume foods that have a chemical reaction in your body that lowers cortisol. Cutting back on caffeine can reduce anxiety. Chamomile lowers cortisol in your body. Stress blocks your body's ability to absorb nutrients. Join Deborah's free masterclass - "Eat to Relieve Anxiety" The Brain-Gut Connection. The microbiome is your second brain. Your digestive system has millions of cells, and your gut promotes wellness throughout the body. It can be the birthplace of silent inflammation which breed other diseases. The Glutathione Revolution: Fight Disease, Slow Aging, and Increase Energy with the Master Antioxidant by Nayan Patel PharmD Ward off life-threatening disease and symptoms of aging with this guide to boosting your levels of glutathione (GSH), the "master antioxidant." The body has a remarkable ability to ward off disease and heal itself--and it does it with the help of the most important antioxidant you've never heard of: glutathione (GSH), the "master antioxidant." This indispensable molecule--which we make ourselves--holds the key to immunity, vitality, and lifelong health, helping to flush out toxins, fight DNA-damaging free radicals, and rebuild other essential antioxidants like Vitamins C and E. It's been linked to longevity in centenarians, and it protects against diseases like cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's. It plays a role in lesser ailments too: low glutathione levels could be the culprit behind your fatigue, aches, and pains. At the forefront of the latest GSH research, Dr. Nayan Patel shares all the information you need to boost your glutathione levels, revitalize your body, and transform your life with this naturally-occurring super antioxidant. In The Glutathione Revolution, he addresses the most important questions about GSH: What exactly is glutathione? What happens when your GSH levels are low? What diseases does GSH ward off? How can you naturally increase the amount of GSH your cells produce? What foods should you eat--and not eat? What are the safest and most effective GSH supplements? With a wealth of practical information and three easy, accessible action plans that you can tailor to your own life and health concerns, you too can harness the power of glutathione.

Dr. Ashley Zehnder is the co-founder and CEO of Fauna Bio, a San Francisco, Bay Area-based company founded in 2018. Fauna Bio has adopted a fascinating strategy for drug development, studying animal genomics to cure human diseases. They use unique and varied proprietary data sources to identify novel drug targets across a range of clinical applications, beginning with cardiovascular protection. Dr. Zehnder is a veterinarian-scientist at the intersection of animal biology and human health. Today she joins the show to discuss her background in Cancer Biology, her specialty training in exotic/non-traditional species, and the experience of launching Fauna Bio with co-founders, Dr. Linda Goodman and Dr. Katie Grabek in 2018. Dr. Zehnder explains how genomes from non-model systems and animals can inform our thinking about human disease, why her background in veterinary medicine gives her an advantage in studying comparative physiology, and what her team has learned about neurodegeneration from the hibernation process of the thirteen-lined ground squirrel. She talks about studying highly conserved disease traits across species and whether we can reactivate certain genetic pathways to reverse those diseases. You'll hear about Fauna Bio's work with RNA Seq. data, their focus on cardiovascular research and other indications they are now expanding into, as well as the company's relationship with Novo Nordisk as they explore the connection between hibernation, metabolic changes, and obesity. Dr. Zehnder offers her perspective on the University of Washington's Dog Aging Project, and talks about the current drug discovery pipeline at Fauna Bio. She addresses how Fauna Bio fits in with other aging research and concludes with her thoughts on how the field of comparative genomics will evolve over the next five to ten years. Episode Highlights: Dr. Ashley Zehnder is a veterinarian with a background in companion exotics (birds, mammals, reptiles) She completed a Ph.D. in Oncology and Cancer Biology at Stanford University Co-founded https://www.faunabio.com/ (Fauna Bio) with Dr. Linda Goodman and Dr. Katie Grabek in 2018 Her background in studying the molecular basis that drives cancer across all different species Studying human genetics alone became difficult and frustrating in trying to determine what drives human disease Turning to comparative genetics was a way to solve that problem Origins of Fauna Bio as a company - decided academia was not the way to take full advantage of new, richer data sets; wanted to make them usable for drug discovery and drug development as quickly as possible Traditional model systems organisms versus non-model systems and animals Model organisms do not fit the bill in trying to do therapeutics discovery for more complex disorders Instead of trying to mimic human diseases in model organisms, Dr. Zehnder focuses on finding similar situations that already exist and have been solved in nature, and learning from those solutions directly Her medical training as a veterinarian gives her an incomparable advantage in studying comparative physiology Scientists who focus only on humans have a blind spot to the fact that the same disease syndromes can be seen across the animal world Research on the thirteen-lined ground squirrel and neurodegeneration Certain adaptations that help animals end up causing diseases in humans; animals have a way of reversing these while humans do not 200 Mammals Project looks at which animals, including humans, can go into torpor Largely study mammalian species due to the similarities with humans They work with RNA-Seq data Studies on traumatic cardiovascular events (heart attacks) for hibernating species show that they may be resistant to damage caused by reperfusion injury  Fauna Bio initially focused on cardiovascular health, and is now expanding into other organs of the body, such as the brain hypothalamus, liver, kidney, muscle and skeletal tissue Their...

Dr. Ron Geyer is the man behind the Saskatchewan Therapeutic Antibody Resource, the Advanced Diagnostics Research Laboratory, and the Centre for Biologic Imaging Research and Development. But when the biochemist and pathologist began university, he was more interested in improving his downhill race times.  "I was very into skiing," Geyer said, recalling his experiments with different waxes and techniques, which set the stage for a lifetime of tinkering. After being sidelined by a knee injury. Geyer turned to molecular biology and organic chemistry, developing a deep fascination with the building blocks of life. "I was interested in understanding how cell processes worked, how pathways in cells were wired and linked together," said Geyer. His post-doctoral work took him to the Molecular Sciences Institute at Berkeley, then to the University of Florida, with a focus on synthetic biology.  But building synthetic molecules felt 'fairly slow and tedious' for Geyer. Upon his return to Canada, he founded a now-defunct biotechnology company focused on improving cancer treatments. "I decided to harness the power of nature and work with biological molecules, rather than synthetic derivatives of them," Geyer said.  When he arrived at the University of Saskatchewan to accept a faculty position, Geyer's focus turned to developing new therapeutic antibodies, and better techniques for diagnosing mutations and disease. To make it happen, he brought together the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, Royal University Hospital and the College of Medicine, creating an antibody 'pipeline'. Geyer's teams now work inside the Health Sciences building, in a fast-expanding research cluster. "The goal was originally to repatriate all the tests we'd been sending out to other provinces," said Geyer. "More recently, we've developed our own tests." In this episode, he explains why this work has led to faster diagnosis, better monitoring, new treatments, and a sense of hope for thousands of Saskatchewan people with leukemia and lymphoma. "It's really exciting and really state-of-the-art," said Geyer. "Ultimately, it serves to provide better medical care for the people of Saskatchewan, not only in terms of the availability of tests, but also in attracting physicians to the province."

You're not eating well. Perhaps you have a chronic illness. Maybe...and this is a wild guess...you're under constant stress. You know all of these factors are doing damage to your body. They could also be contributing to a loss of a very important antioxidant your body normally produces. A growing number of studies are starting to show that you can ward off disease and symptoms of aging by boosting your levels of the master antioxidant, glutathione (GSH). Research shows it can help do everything from bolstering immunity to lowering inflammation and regulating hormones, which means it has the potential to help protect against a long list of ailments. This week we talk with Nayan Patel, PharmD. He is the author of the new book “The Glutathione Revolution: Fight Disease, Slow Aging, and Increase Energy with the Master Antioxidant.” It is comprehensive and practical, outlining what exactly glutathione is and what happens to us as it decreases over time.  Dr. Patel explains how to naturally increase glutathione levels to capitalize on the antioxidant's innumerable benefits. With a 14-day plan, along with recipes, menus, and easy natural steps to boost glutathione levels in the body, you can feel younger and ward off the diseases of aging...naturally. Not only because of what we might possibly face with COVID-19, but just in your day to day life. Today we're going to talk about our immune systems. And in order to be on the go and travel the world and take car of our families- we have to to be our healthiest selves and it's never too late to start.Building immunity by first building a healthy gut is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind, but it's of huge importance. To build a healthy gut, a few things likePrebiotics, Probiotics, and Fermented Foods can help get your gut fit to fight viruses and other critters that seek to weaken your immune system. Fermented foods like sourdough starter, sauerkraut or kimchi are not only healthy for your gut biome, but when thinking about stocking up on food during a time of crisis, these items can last a long time AND they have healing properties, so they are a much better choice to have on hand for emergencies, instead of highly processed foods.  Processed foods are often laden with unhealthy additives, preservatives, sugars, fats, and too much sodium.  Hear our episode on how to get FREE online entertainment -including books and magazines on health benefits, plans and recipes. Mapping Microbes: How Dr. Laura-Isobel McCall Uses Chemical Cartography to Fight Disease

Finding Genius Podcast

This podcast describes a cutting-edge application of analytical chemistry. When you listen, you will learn: How Dr. McCall's lab uses liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry together to identify and locate pathogen microbes in bodily organs. How identifying their location leads to creating compounds that help the body fight their effects. Why this new pathogen management is centered on metabolomics testing rather than killing the microbes. Laura-Isobel McCall, Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma, specializes in chemical cartography of host-microbe interactions. She runs the McCall Lab, where they practice the application of analytical chemistry to map disease-causing microbes in mammalian organ systems. The McCall Lab explores the interaction between pathogens, the microbiome, and the host to develop drugs that are capable of metabolism modulation. Through metabolomics testing and chemical cartography, Dr. McCall's lab is working on compounds to counter the effects of pathogens such as parasites. Much of their work focuses on neglected diseases, often potentially deadly, such as trypanosoma cruzi, which is present in the United States. Dr. McCall explains how locating and mapping microbes with 3D technology and metabolomics testing opens up an understanding of how these pathogens function. This has led to identifying how important timing is in treating against the effects of such pathogens: the extent of tissue damage and the eventual dormant stage of a parasite are factors of time, for example. Furthermore, developing compounds to bolster how the host deals with the energy demand of the pathogen is more effective than simply targeting the pathogen. Future work of the lab includes applying these techniques to other types of pathogens, improving the compounds to help patients, and connecting this work to other location-centered diseases. For more information, see the McCall Lab page at http://mccall-lab.oucreate.com/ and find them on twitter as @LabMccall.

Cass Nelson-Dooley, M.S., owner and CEO of Health First Consulting, LLC, discusses her work and research into the microbiome and beyond. Nelson-Dooley has conducted extensive research into the pharmacology of medicinal plants at the University of Georgia and AptoTec, Inc, and she was an innovator at Metametrix Clinical Laboratory as well as Genova Diagnostics. Nelson-Dooley is passionate about human health, passionate about improving it through a comprehensive approach that addresses the many and various underlying causes of disease. She is a student of ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, and natural product chemistry and has experience in integrative and functional medicine, and the integrative medicine laboratory industry, as well as nutraceutical research and development, osteoporosis, and obesity. Nelson-Dooley discusses her background and her desire to learn all she could about medicinal plants. Natural medicine, as she explains, has long been something she and her family were interested in. She discusses her work and time in Panama, studying indigenous people and the plants that they used for common illnesses. Nelson-Dooley's book, Heal Your Oral Microbiome: Balance and Repair your Mouth Microbes to Improve Gut Health, Reduce Inflammation and Fight Disease, is a good read for anyone who wants to seriously work on improving their health. Nelson-Dooley explains how plants need vitamins and minerals, and she discusses the many similarities of living organisms. She outlines the nutrients that plants have within them that we as humans could harness and take advantage of. Continuing, she explains some of the problems that occur with modern drugs on the market. Nelson-Dooley discusses her evolutionary perspective on why certain plants do what they do, and how they continually work to advance their lineage. She cites the example of the fruit tree, and how it is perfectly designed to promote its survival, as fruits are eaten and then the fruit seed is carried and deposited through feces, which creates a perfect environment for the growth of a new tree. Continuing, Nelson-Dooley discusses her book and microbiome testing, including her work in diagnostic testing. She talks about the gut microbiome in detail and explains her research into the oral microbiome. She explains the similarities between the two. And she talks about the many functions of the microbiome, from making vitamins to calming inflammation.
