This week I had the chance to speak with author Veronica Henry about her latest release, Thirty Days in Paris. It's a story of second chances, of new experiences and follows our main character, Juliet, as she travels to Paris to learn about herself after an amicable divorce. We talk about everything from au pairs to first and second loves, to redemption arcs and travel. And of course, the book, which is a perfect book to read around the pool on holiday or on your sofa on a Sunday afternoon with a cup of tea and a packet of digestives. Veronica Henry started her writing career in radio television, writing for shows such as The Archers, Heartbeat and Holby City, before she decided to try her hand at writing novels. It worked out pretty well - she is now a bestselling author who has written over twenty novels. Her latest novel, Thirty Days in Paris, is out now.We had a fun chat with Veronica, hearing how she made her start in the creative world doing sound effects for TV shows, and becoming a script editor on the legendary British soap, Crossroads. She tells us why she made the move from TV to writing novels, how she deals with notes and suggestions from others, and why deadlines are helpful to her writing.Link:Buy Veronica's books nowVisit Veronica's websiteFollow Veronica on TwitterOut now - a new video podcast from Page One featuring all the latest writing news - Page One Extra! This week we learn the story of historian, author, and academic writing tutor at the V&A, Imperial College and the Royal College of Art, #MatsonTaylor.Matson is the #author of #TheMiseducationofEvieEpworth and All About Evie. The Miseducation of Evie Epworth is the Bestselling Richard & Judy Book Club Pick which has had over 1500 reviews on Amazon!ABOUT:The Bestselling Richard & Judy Summer Book Club Pick 2021.The Bestselling Radio 2 Book Club Selection.‘Tight, clever and riddled with wit. Like discovering Adrian Mole or Bridget Jones for the first time.' Joanna Nadin, author of The Queen of Bloody Everything.‘A sweet, fizzy sherbet dib-dab of a book - deliciously nostalgic, hugely funny and ultimately heartwarming. The perfect book for our times.' Veronica Henry.‘Such a joyful and uplifting read. Just the sort of thing that people will want to be reading right now.' Anita Rani, Radio 2 Book Club.It is the summer of 1962 and sixteen-year-old Evie Epworth stands on the cusp of womanhood. But what kind of a woman will she be?Up until now, Evie's life has been nothing special: a patchwork of school, Guides, cows, lost mothers, lacrosse and village fetes. But, inspired by her idols (Charlotte Brontë, Shirley MacLaine, the Queen), she dreams of a world far away from rural East Yorkshire, a world of glamour lived under the bright lights of London (or Leeds). Standing in the way of these dreams, though, is Christine, Evie's soon-to-be stepmother, a manipulative and money-grubbing schemer who is lining Evie up for a life of shampoo-and-set drudgery at the stinky local salon.Luckily Evie is not alone. With the help of a few friends, and the wise counsel of the two Adam Faith posters on her bedroom wall (‘brooding Adam' and ‘sophisticated Adam'), Evie comes up with a plan to rescue her future from Christine's pink and over-perfumed clutches. She will need a little luck, a dash of charm and a big dollop of Yorkshire magic if she is to succeed, but in the process she may just discover who exactly it is she is meant to be.Moving, inventive and achingly funny, with an all-star cast of bold-as-brass characters, The Miseducation of Evie Epworth is a perfectly pitched modern fairytale about love, friendship and following your dreams while having a lot of fun along the way.'Full of fabulous characters, sprinkled with joy and drenched in wit.' Milly Johnson.'Funny and original with a cast of eccentric characters, this debut novel is a tour de force. Not to be missed.' Sunday Express.'A rich triumph of comic writing.' Are beach hutters born and bred? I chat to Veronica Henry, Author of 'The Beach Hut', 'A Day at the Beach Hut', 'Christmas at the Beach Hut' and 'A Wedding at the Beach Hut' and 'The Beach Hut Next Door'. What is so appealing about beach huts and the seaside that makes us Brits go wild for these properties on the prom? Veronica shares what she would do if she were appointed the UK's first ever 'Beach Hut Minister'. First-time beach-hutter, Chris Nash from Hove, excitedly tells me how owning a beach hut has changed his life. 26 July 2021

A heartwarming festive read set in beautiful Norway - perfect for fans of Veronica Henry, Jojo Moyes and One Day in December. Jane has given up on love. She might have uncovered the news scandal of the year, but she's also been dumped by boyfriend Simon . . . and has spent the last month avoiding him at the office. With Christmas fast-approaching, Jane's heart is no closer to mending. But Jane's boss has other plans for her. She needs someone to go on a luxurious press trip to Norway to cover the story of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree and she's selected Jane to go. Jane would much rather wallow at home than spend a week in the fjords with some ditzy bloggers, a snippy publicist, ever-cheerful colleague Ben and handsome-but-arrogant TV presenter Philip Donnelly. But as Jane throws herself into the trip and starts to enjoy herself, it seems that love hasn't quite given up on her just yet... Amid all the snow, could a gift be awaiting her underneath the mistletoe?

I’m Jim McKeown , welcome to Likely Stories, a weekly review of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and biographies. Once again, I found myself in the web of one of my favorite genres: novels set in and around a bookstore. If you think these are all copy-cat stories, you are in for a surprise. So far, all that I have read have a variety of situations, characters, and love. According to the biography in the paperback copy, Victoria Henry worked as a scriptwriter before turning to fiction. She lives with her family in North Devon, England. Her novel, How to find Love in a Bookshop is a wonderful story.
Gareth's on BBC World Service, Veronica's written A Home From Home, plus Ken Bruce.
This week, Gilly Smith is at Burrow Hill Farm in Somerset, home to the Bohemian Temperley family and the UK's first Cider Brandy which was the finale to this year's Royal Wedding. Meredith and Kaytee are back in your earbuds for more bookish chat. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us – something readerly in our lives that we want to highlight, and a few of the books we’ve finished reading lately. Then we’ll chat about what’s next up on the TBR pile. This episode we truly begin to show our love for middle-grade fiction. We hadn’t planned it this way, but we recommend a plethora of fantastic titles for your kids - or for the lover of kit lit in you. Next, we both divulge our worst bookish habits, and chat a little bit about how we try to “combat” those habits. We finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to put into every reader’s hands: something that has consistently ranked on our favorites list or been well-beloved by the people in our lives that we’ve convinced to read it. Perhaps it will become one of your favorites as well. Time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book we mentioned in this episode. If only Essie hadn't written that letter - the one that went viral... THIS COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING is the feel-good new novel from Jill Mansell, the bestselling author of MEET ME AT BEACHCOMBER BAY. Not to be missed by fans of Katie Fforde and Lucy Diamond. On the one hand, if Essie hadn't written that letter - the one that only her best friend was meant to see - then she'd still be living like an actual proper grown-up, tucked up with Paul in his picture-perfect cottage, maybe even planning their wedding... On the other hand (if her true feelings hadn't accidentally taken the internet by storm, that is) she never would have met Zillah and Conor - not to mention Lucas. And she'd never have found out just how much life there is to be lived... 'One of my favourite writers' Katie Fforde 'Reading Jill is always such a joy!' Veronica Henry
