THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta Victor Salva is a filmmaker best known for directing Jeepers Creepers (2001), but his career has been marked by serious legal issues. In 1988, during the production of his first feature film, Clownhouse, Salva was convicted of child exploitation-related crimes involving one of the film's young actors, Nathan Forrest Winters. This led to a prison sentence, of which he served 15 months before being released on parole. Despite his conviction, Salva was able to continue working in Hollywood, later directing Powder (1995) and the Jeepers Creepers franchise. His continued presence in the industry has been a source of controversy, with many questioning how he was able to regain opportunities despite his past crimes. Casey is an adolescent boy whose life is constantly influenced by his intense fear of clowns. His two older brothers, Geoffrey and Randy, are mostly disobliging. One night, the three boys are left alone so they decide to visit a local circus, despite Casey's uncontrollable coulrophobia. While at the circus, Casey innocently visits a fortune teller and she reveals to him that his life line has been cut short. Meanwhile, three psychotic mental patients, who have escaped an insane asylum, murder three clowns and steal their identities of Cheezo, Bippo, and Dippo by taking their makeup and costumes. As the boys return home from the circus, the mental patients target their home. Casey and his brothers are locked inside their isolated farmhouse and the power is turned off. Casey attempts to call the police, but the police officer assumes that Casey's fear of clowns caused him to have a realistic nightmare. Randy, disbelieving that clowns are after them, plans to jump out at Geoffrey and Casey dressed as a clown but he is stabbed by one of the mental patients. Geoffrey manages to kill Bippo by hitting him with a wooden plank, knocking him down a flight of stairs and breaking his neck. Casey and Geoffrey push Dippo out a window to his death. The boys find Randy unconscious in a closet and drag him into another room. Geoffrey is then attacked by Cheezo, who chases Casey into the upstairs game room. Casey manages to hide but after the clown leaves, Casey accidentally steps on a noise-making toy, alerting Cheezo of his location. Cheezo attempts to strangle Casey, but Geoffrey slams a hatchet into his back, finally killing him.

We 'R' their voice My name is Nathan Forrest Winters; I am a child sex abuse survivor. Best known for my role as Casey, in the 1987 horror film ‘Clownhouse' written and directed by Victor Salva. Salva is known best for his films ‘powder' and the ‘Jeepers Creepers' series and being the man that sexually abused me for six years of my childhood. Towards the end of '87 Salva was convicted of 5 counts of child molestation and sentenced to three years, of which he served a mere eighteen months at a treatment center in Napa valley California. It's now been three decades since Salva was convicted and sentenced. It was then at the age 12 that my journey and search for healing began. At 20 I found my voice as a survivor. My intention was and still remains to raise awareness and to educate. To shed light onto these darkest of crimes and to be a living example of proof that there is in fact healing to be found in the wake of abuse. To help others to find their strength, courage and their voice. I am currently in production of a documentary entitled ‘Pure Eternus: The Babysitter'. Directed by Connar Frazier,'Babysitter' tells the story of my journey from victim to survivor. I also am fulfilling a dream of mine by writing all the music for the film. I am also in the grassroots stages of starting a non-profit organization called ‘we R their voice' as well as booking venues for my ‘Raised Awareness' speaking tour I plan to launch by spring of next year. So I am quite busy but ecstatic to have such an awesome amount of support and such a willingness to help me see my dreams of doing my part to make this world safer and to expose these predators of our children become a reality. I am proud to be a part of the solution. To be the voice for our children who virtually have none in our judicial system. to bring this epidemic out into the forefront. We as a whole in this country have been too afraid to face such an unspeakable topic and continue to turn a blind eye. This has allowed these predators of our children to go unchecked for too long. Just a few of many disturbing facts is that every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Every 8 minutes that victim is a child. Meanwhile only 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators is convicted. By donating you are making all of this possible; funds go towards establishing a nonprofit, the ‘Raised Awareness' speaking, And assisting Nathan with making this world a safer place.

This week we cover the three films of the "Jeepers Creeper" franchise. All were written and directed by Victor Salva*. All take place in a short time frame. The second movie occurs four days after the first. The third movie occurs between the first and second.  I think the Creeper is one of the best horror creatures out there. He likes to wear a trench coat and stetson hat. Sometimes he dons a red sweater. He has bat like wings and can fly. He likes to scare people to determine if they have body parts he's interested in. So far he's needed eyes, a new head, a foot, a hand, etc. He drives a sentient truck and is partial to the song "Jeepers Creepers" for some reason.  Since the action in these movies takes place in Florida, I went with a few Florida recipes. From OnlyInYourState.com we have key lime pie, mojitos, cuban midnight sandwiches, coconut bars,  grits, lemon orange chicken, cajun grits and kumquat ice cream. Check out TasteOfHome.com as well for more fun recipes.  *CONTROVERSY: There has been a great deal of controversy surrounding Victor Salva's films.  Per Wikipedia, he was "convicted in 1988 for sexually abusing a 12-year-old actor who starred in his feature film debut "Clownhouse" (1989), as well as possessing child pornography. This controversy has led to protests against his films, including a boycott of "Powder" organized by his victim." I include this information so you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to any of Salva's movies.     Photo Credit: Here Music Credits: Here and Here

In 1986, Salva's 35-minute short, Something in the Basement, so impressed legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola that he came on as a producer of Salva's first full-length feature, Clownhouse. Salva, then 28, cast the 12-year-old Nathan Winters, who he had also featured in Something in the Basement, in Clownhouse. The movie centered around three young brothers whose suburban existence transforms into a waking nightmare when their house is occupied by psychopaths dressed as clowns. During filming, the sixth grader's mother, Rebecca Winters, began to suspect that her son was being terrorized both on and off the set. “Victor said I couldn't go to the set,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “He said Nathan couldn't work if I was there. I just had these feelings. I confronted Nathan and he admitted it to me, he said, ‘I have a secret and I can't tell anyone.'” Police raided the director and former child-care worker's home, where they found child pornography—including a homemade pornographic tape that showed Salva engaging in oral sex with his pre-adolescent star. “He spent the better part of a year grooming me and my parents,” Nathan Winters recalled in an interview earlier this year. “Developing the trust. It was very calculated, and a long process, as it is with most pedophiles.” In April 1988, Salva pleaded guilty to five felony counts—lewd and lascivious conduct, oral copulation with a person under 14, and three counts of procuring a child for pornography. He was sentenced to three years in prison, and was released in 1989 after serving only 15 months. The Winters family sued Coppola's Commercial Pictures for $5 million; Rebecca Winters said that hey eventually settled out of court for “barely over $100,000.”

Nathan Forrest Winters; Child Sex Abuse SurvivorTalkhttps://www.gofundme.com/we-r-their-voiceWe 'R' their voiceMy name is Nathan Forrest Winters; I am a child sex abuse survivor. By donating you are making all of this possible; funds go towards establishing a nonprofit, the ‘Raised Awareness' speaking, And assisting Nathan with making this world a safer place.https://www.facebook.com/Nathan-Forrest-Winters-149643722298693/https://www.facebook.com/We-R-their-voice-135534003716869This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement

Attempting to put aside the backstory to this movie whilst having it remain a fact throughout the viewieing experience was a bit tough but I think we managed it pretty well.
