Dan Panosian does it all: pencilling, inking, writing, advertising, video game designing... the list goes on. But like most of our guests, he's a comics guy at heart. Starting with Neal Adams at Continuity and Walt Simonson and Ralph Macchio at Marvel, Dan's inking work soon caught the eye of the X-Men editors, and he was off to the races! After runs on Uncanny X-Men and Alpha Flight (among others), he was recruited to Image, where he worked on the big guns like Spawn, Cyberforce, PITT, Prophet, Savage Dragon, and Wetworks. Branching out from inking, Dan pencils and writes too, taking on assignments across the industry, from Dark Horse and Dynamite to Boom! Studios. To see what's coming from Dan next, follow him on X and Instagram @UrbanBarbarian._____________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Ouroboros is a gnostic and alchemical symbol that expresses the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but perpetually change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation. Native American peoples attach several meanings to the appearance of an owl, but owls are generally seen as messengers from the spirit world to humans. Among the Hopi people, owls represent a warning about sorcery. For the Ojibwe people, owls always warn of evil and death. Our Brotherhood has been tried, tested, and fortified. Guess who's back on X-Men? That's right, it's today's guest, Whilce Portacio! The Bishop co-creator is revisiting that time-traveling mutant in a pair of X-Men Legends issues, starting with #5 on January 24, 2023. So yeah, we start with that. But then we rewind, as we do, all the way to the beginning, tracing Whilce's intro to the comic scene as a military brat born in the Philippines. We get into his early inking work on Alien Legion and Longshot, then his first pencils on Punisher, X-Factor, and Uncanny X-Men. And of course, the founding of Image and his contribution, Wetworks, also come up. Whilce has a lot to say, so saddle up and pay attention, Banditos. This one goes everywhere! You can follow Whilce on Twitter and Instagram @whilceportacio.______________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. This time on the Couch: Mike, James, and Shée try to wring some scares out of the Wildstorm Halloween Trilogy of Terror! It's three interlocking stories of macabre ghoulishness feature three interlocking teams of mediocre foolishness! First the heroes of Team 7 bomb the hell out of a sacred Mexican temple because who's even gonna mind? Some sort of vengeful bat demon who lives there? Please! What are the odds of that happening? Next, Gen13 deal with a vengeful bat demon who's super upset about something! Jeez, what's his problem? It's never made clear. Finally, Wetworks stops by to channel the spirit of a Nordic warrior in order to fight some sort of bat-demon-conjuring guy who's really angry for reasons I didn't catch. It should be a great comic, but if it's not, remember: Nobody forced you to listen.
Welcome to DRR Podcast 092, for our second episode of the week we welcome Wetworks/ V.I.T.R.I.O.L. from NYC but now residing ion Phoenix, Arizona, USA Wetworks was discovered in the mid-2000s by Glenn Wilson, who released Wetworks' first vinyl on The Infamous Punish Label. Glenn has continued to be a mentor and friend throughout his professional career. Along with many techno luminaries such as Mark Broom, Staffan Ehrlin, and other heroes turned peers. Friends like these have guided Wetworks through carving a unique path in the techno realm. Each has lent continuous encouragement to release authentic and honest music—matching his outlook to be sonically impactful and able to be felt in the soul. As a result, Wetworks has released tracks on respected labels such as GND, Geushky, Compound, Mastertraxx, Player, Dolma, and many more. Wetworks tracks are percussive, warehouse, and dance floor ready and cultivated with music theory. 2019 marked the return of Wetworks to the harder side of techno, which allowed him to separate his known approach to funky and percussive techno. Instead, it allotted a newer approach to Faster Brutal Hard Techno, still keen on Music Theory and rhythmic practice, with a dash of esoteric overtone. Wetworks is now a part of the Chicago Jaxxx & Mastoid Kollektive family as their newly inducted A&R and Creative Director. Change is in the air... and, boy do we hope it's fleeting! Welcome folks, to our exhaustive look at the 16th issue of our favorite comic book series, Strikeforce: Morituri! You ever wonder what might happen when the constant threat of death becomes mundane? Well, wonder no more... because last issue's fatality barely gets a passing mention this time out! Also, our last remaining original Aline goes... AWOL! Where did she go? None of the Morituri seem to care in the slightest! We've got Mr. Wetworks, weird factories, a gross showdown at the AZ Corral, and... Monster Morituri???? Also: We chat up Sega Memories, complain about stuff we have no control over, discuss the merits of keeping exotic fish, and much much more! It's a great time as always, consider lending us your ears for 1/12 of the day! -- Your March, 1988 Strikeforce: Morituri Roster - Blackthorn, Scaredycat, Scatterbrain, Toxyn, Hardcase, Brava, Backhand, Silencer, Shear Alumni - Snapdragon (#4), Vyking (#6), Marathon (#12), Adept (#13), Wildcard (#13), Radian (#15) -- @acecomics @Charlton_Hero chrisandreggie.com chrisisoninfiniteearths.com charltonhero.wordpress.com/
The GTA Digital Podcast is back, with myself, Gary The Apprentice, laying down some techno for ya'll. This time something a bit different, and something that I've never done before. For this show I've decided to put a set together in Ableton, with over 40 tracks spread out across 4 channels, and performed using a Novation Launchpad and Launchcontrol XL. This is the "Filipino Americans in Comics and Animation panel" that was mentioned on episode 147 of the Stuff & Junk show. It features Rodney Cajudo of FilAm Creative, Whilce Portacio (Creator of Bishop, Wetworks, Artist on X-Men, X-Factor), Leo Partible (animation and comic book writer), and Van Partible (creator of Johnny Bravo). The audio quality isn't the best, and there are external noises that interferes with the recording, but there are great stories here that should be heard.
