Share your lol moments of the episodeLet's talk about armpits, vigilante justice, and bad dialogue, baby! This week, we're recapping the 2nd movie in David Gordon Green's Halloween Trilogy, Halloween Kills. There is so much going on in this movie that it doesn't totally make sense, however, that does NOT stop us from having a blast. This movie's got some really great scenes, including Logan's least favorite kill in all of horror. Tune in to find out which one it is, and to hear all about this messy sequel.
For the October installment of Purely Academic, Jonathan and Sean embrace the spooky season by talking Halloween – specifically, the recent Halloween reboot/sequel trilogy directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, with the hosts debating whether these films are muddled messes or interesting revisionist takes on the slasher genre. We break down some recent News, including Sony's controversial unveiling of the PS5 Pro, several new game announcements including Ghost of Yōtei and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and news of Kyoto Animation making an exciting new film and TV series in 2025. In our ‘Show ‘n Tell' segment, we discuss what we've been playing and watching recently, with Jonathan talking about the terrible new Joker movie, his experiences at the Denver Silent Film Festival, and finally finishing Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, while Sean shares his thoughts on the 5.0 update of Genshin Impact, and we both discuss the outstanding new PS5 game Astro Bot. And finally, in the ‘Monthly Ten' segment, Sean is challenged by Jonathan to rank the Top 10 Anime That Aren't About the Power of Friendship. Enjoy, and we'll be back next month for an exciting episode reviewing the Heisei-era Gamera trilogy, a series of classic Kaiju films we've been promising to discuss for years now. What kinds of things do you think we're going to learn next time? Ed from The Film Effect Podcast returns to discuss the concluding chapter of David Gordon Green's Halloween Trilogy, Halloween Ends (2022). Discussion Points: -Sean trials a new introduction, but buggers up his guest's name. -The reception of Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (2021). -The surprising direction of this film. -The divisive direction of this concluding chapter. -The character of Corey and whether he was always meant to be in the film. -Sean and Ed clash over their views of the wider Halloween series, particularly Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. Raised Questions: -Does this film make you feel like ripping your shirt off? -Could they have gone "bigger and better" after Halloween Kills? -Did it help to introduce an all-new character as the main character? -Why is Jeremy such a git? -Is this film The Dark Knight Rises of the 2018 Halloween trilogy? -A marching band or extras from Grease (1978)? -Why does Corey dance like that? -Is Halloween Ends a "breath of fresh air"? Happy Halloween all!! Well today we talk about a film that has received more hate than any of the Pauly Shore movies combined. The Exorcist: Believer is from the minds that brought us the new Halloween Trilogy. Is that a good or bad thing? Join Ciaran and Trevor as they discuss this requel to the beloved classic. Will it make our heads spin in anger or will we accept the concept and allow all sins to be absolved. OK yeah those puns are bad… Enjoy! #TheExorcist #TheExorcistBeliever #LindaBlair #Blumhouse #DavidGordonGreen #WilliamPeterBlatty

Hi y'all, been a bit! And guess what? Here's a special episode where we kinda discuss Halloween Ends! Again! My good buddy Kevin Proff did a series review for David Gordon Green's Halloween Trilogy (and Halloween '78 because that's relevant), as well as the non-horror movie My Bodyguard (because that's also related somehow kinda). Also, big announcement for the previous season's episodes, as well as my favorites from last year! Enjoy it y'all, and see you again in September for the next season of the show. Happy early spooky season!

Evil dies tonight! Ok probably not, but we are at least going to talk about it! Comedian extraordinaire Brent Terhune is back with us again and this time to talk about David Gordon Green's recent Halloween Trilogy. Listen in as we take a look at these fairly polarizing entries in an already storied franchise and break down what worked and what didn't. Available now on iTunes, podbean and our blog. Thanks for listening!
The guys discuss the final film in David Gordon Green's new Halloween Trilogy, and the brief career of unsuccessful serial killer “Corey Myers.” Marcus struggles to pronounce “Haddonfield,” and Dave has a creative suggestion for how to best punish Michael Myers. Well, at lest they cleared up that Halloween Kills window bullshit…..
Three scoops of murder victims courtesy of Michael Myers, Blumhouse Productions and the boys at Running Scared as we review the entire Halloween trilogy; Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween Ends (2022). Had the Halloween franchise gone off the rails and does Blumhouse get it back on? Does this hang together as a trilogy? Is it wise to put Michael Myers on a school bus? Do the rules of Requels bog down a movie - ie. bringing back the legacy cast? How closely was this trilogy meant to mirror the latest Star Wars films? LET'S TALK: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 17-minutes discussing Halloween Halloween Halloween! (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) When Melvin saw Halloween Ends, he wasn't sure if he liked or disliked the movie. Mostly, it left him confused. So, he embarked on a journey: rewatching all three David Gordon Green Halloween flicks and seeing how they stand up. In doing so, his opinion on Halloween Ends has completely changed, and both he and Daniel discuss the experience of having their opinions change on movies, media, and life in general, and how the practice of mulling over and meditating on media is a helpful, often good practice. This time on the Couch: Mike, James, and Shée try to wring some scares out of the Wildstorm Halloween Trilogy of Terror! It's three interlocking stories of macabre ghoulishness feature three interlocking teams of mediocre foolishness! First the heroes of Team 7 bomb the hell out of a sacred Mexican temple because who's even gonna mind? Some sort of vengeful bat demon who lives there? Please! What are the odds of that happening? Next, Gen13 deal with a vengeful bat demon who's super upset about something! Jeez, what's his problem? It's never made clear. Finally, Wetworks stops by to channel the spirit of a Nordic warrior in order to fight some sort of bat-demon-conjuring guy who's really angry for reasons I didn't catch. It should be a great comic, but if it's not, remember: Nobody forced you to listen.
Kevin here - When I started doing this podcast with Pete 3 years ago, I had thought that I would be talking with my friend about the intricate, diabolical and twisted imagining of horror story crafters. Learning riveting and terrifying secrets about the stories told throughout the years that I was always too scared to learn about. After listening to over 150 different horror movies explained to me I've come to see the truth: MOST of these damn movies are low effort, money grubbing crapfests meant to trick money from 17 year old boys who want to see peoples heads cut off and boobs. And nothing can be more of a paradigm of this sentiment than the beloved franchise Halloween, who - much like its antagonist - will never die. Listen to Pete and me talk about this franchise with the podcast's newest host Sarah!

To wrap up Halloween 2022, Marshall and Ryan take on the more recent trilogy of sequels based upon John Carpenter's 1970's ground-breaking classic, that spanned 2018-2022. We drive relentlessly through three movies, slashing our way through narrative complexity, taking down the multitude of ideas presented, slaying any questions about what the movie is trying to do, and staring into the abyss as we try to figure out what, exactly, is staring back.

On this episode of the Grim and Bloody Theater we talk about Blumhouse Production's Halloween trilogy which started in 2018 and finishes on October 14th with Halloween Ends. With John Carpenter's help Halloween reignited the franchise. Although Michael Meyers cannot never die, we eagerly anticipate the conclusion to this well done Blumhouse series. Halloween is near and dear to our hearts. We can say with the utmost confidence that this iteration of John Carpenter's horror slasher franchise is a cut above all the rest, save for the first two installments. If you haven't watched Halloween (2018) we strongly recommend doing so. Not only did Blumhouse convince John Carpenter to return but we get to watch Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode again. MOVIE DISCUSSION: Happy Halloween! In this extra episode of the podcast, Melvin & Dan discuss the latest entry in the Halloween franchise! If you've been a part of the online discussion, or at least aware of how people feel about Halloween Kills, then you're in for a treat! Daniel didn't like Halloween Kills, but Melvin did! Thus begins some great Halloween banter! Topics: Melvin really wants to talk about Halloween Kills, so they waste no time and jump right into it.Chronicling the various canon of the Halloween franchise, and laying the framework between Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills.Daniel was on board with Halloween Kills for about 20-30 minutes, and then it started to lose him.Daniel also feels Halloween Kills takes itself too seriously, trying to elevate a franchise whose groundwork is based in simplicity.CinemaScore was at Melvin's screening and he gave Halloween Kills an A! His wife Kathryn gave it a C.Melvin suspects David Gordon Green is creating his Halloween Trilogy of movies to be something people routinely binge during the month of October, similar to watching the extended cuts of Lord of the Rings. Melvin didn't like Halloween (2018), putting it at #63 out of the 68 movies he's seen from 2018, but he suspects that Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills pair together well as a double feature which would probably improve his experience with Halloween (2018).Halloween Kills spends time having characters try and figure out who Michael Myers is only to graciously have Michael Myers immediately show up to murder them.Melvin suspects a lot of what contributes to his positive thoughts on Halloween Kills is due to a fun theater experience with a lively, engaged audience.Celebrating that Donald Pleasance was not resurrected via CGI but rather Dr. Loomis was brought back via another actor, prosthetics, and voice acting. For Daniel, even though the movie loses itself, it never stops being engaging.Discussing the bizarre mob sub-plot, how it sort of means nothing, yet incidentally correlates socially as a reminder of how absurd January 6th really is.Talking about the best characters all year: Big John & Little John. The movie has so many "movie lines" where characters just say things you only say in the movies. Is Michael Myers homophobic? Let's discuss. Is this trilogy trying to turn Michael Myers into some sort of Jason Voorhees super-powered adjacent?Recommendations: F.F.
