By some estimates nearly $100 million people have still not read the Bible in their native language. Bible translation experts from Wycliffe Associates are working to bring that number down. President Biden recently made history by apologizing ...
On today's program, Tim Ballard—hero of the hit movie ‘Sound of Freedom'—has been removed from two nonprofits, one of which is Operation Underground Railroad. We'll have details. Also, the Bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates is asking for big donations, but giving few details on how they plan to use the money. And, tips for donors wanting to give to anti-trafficking ministries. We begin today with news from Texas, as the debate over women pastors has now moved to the state level. Delegates to the Baptist General Convention of Texas adopted a statement last week urging its staff to affirm women in “ministerial and leadership roles.” FINAL THOUGHTS: Just a reminder that MinistryWatch is a donor supported organization, and if you make a gift during the month of July, you'll receive a copy of my book Faith-Based Fraud: Learning From The Great Religious Scandals of our Time as our thank-you gift. Just go to MinistryWatch and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. We've got just a couple of days left in the month, and we're a few thousand dollars short of our goal, so if you've been thinking about a gift, now would be a great time. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Jessica Eturralde, Adelle Banks, Steve Rabey, Christina Darnell, Rod Pitzer—and you, Warren. Until next time, may God bless you.

Today I welcome back to the program Jane Schoen, and we are joined by her colleague Amy McClintock. Jane and Amy are with the Strategic Resource Group, an organization that funds projects to reach unreached people groups in the Middle East and North Africa, the so-called MENA region of the world. Almost two years ago I reported on a new initiative by the Strategic Resource Group that – if successful – could have a dramatic impact on the way we do Bible translation. They are using a so-called Translation Service Provider – an organization that normally translates contracts, treaties, movie scripts, books, and all manner of other material – to translate the Bible. The company it is using is called LinguaLinx. I wrote an article about this process in August of 2021. But one aspect of this project that is different from those undertaken by traditional Bible translation organizations is the remarkable degree of transparency SRG has shown to me in the process. Last year, for example, I checked in with Jane in both January and August to get updates on the project. And that's what we are doing today. The difference today is that Amy McClintock has joined SRG in a leadership role, so she will be joining Jane in today's conversation. The very fact that Jane and Amy and SRG are allowing me to have these regular check-ins is dramatically different from the way the Bible translation industry normally operates. It's an industry cloaked in secrecy and layers of bureaucracy. In fact, for the past two years or so, I've written nearly two dozen articles on the industry and its practices, and I'll have links to those articles below. I encourage you to check them out. Before we go, I'd like to remind you that MinistryWatch is donor supported. We take no money from ministries. All of our content is free. No paywall. That means we couldn't do what we do without faithful donors. You guys are the real heroes of this enterprise. So if you'd like to join that heroic group by pitching in to make sure that MinistryWatch remains a viable endeavor, you can go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the “donate” button at the top of the page. And if you donate in the month of January, we'll send you, as our thank you, a copy of Dr. Michael Kruger's new book “Bully Pulpit.” This book defines what spiritual abuse is, and is not, and provides practical and compassionate ways for dealing with spiritual abuse in the church. To donate, click here. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database, technical, and editorial support from Stephen DuBarry, Christina Darnell, Emily Kern, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Until next time, may God bless you. SPONSORED BY BOUNDLESS DRONE SERVICES. Most people have heard the name Wycliffe before, and that is because of the amazing work they've done in taking the Bible and translating it in thousands of dialects. David Cramer works for Wycliffe Associates, and is responsible for Discipleship in a huge region in the Pacific, working in such areas as New Guinea, where tribal dialects are many and varied.
On today's program, the Bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates continues to make ambitious claims about its work, but is able to provide few details or evidence of results. And troubles continue at McLean Bible Church in the suburban Washington, DC, area. We'll have the latest. We begin today with a lawsuit against Liberty University. The suit has been brought by victims of sexual assault that the victims say Liberty should have prevented. A couple of housekeeping items before we go. First, a reminder that “Faith-Based Fraud” is now available at Audible.com. Secondly, a reminder to support your local church first, and your favorite and carefully researched ministries second, but if you have a bit extra that you can give MinistryWatch to help us help you and others become more effective and informed stewards, we would – of course – be grateful. To make a gift to MinistryWatch any time, not just at year-end, go to www.MinistryWatch.com and hit the donate tab at the top of the page. Finally, for any listeners in Colorado Springs. Warren Smith be in Colorado next week and would love to have lunch with you. We're doing a lunch in Colorado Springs on the 27th. Check your daily email from MinistryWatch for an EventBrite link to sign up. And if you don't live in Colorado, stay tuned. Now that COVID is lifted, I'll be traveling a bit more, and I hope to do donor, reader, and listener lunches in Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, Nashville, and other cities in the near future. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. We get database and other technical support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, and Casey Sudduth. On today's program, we take another look at the claims of the bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates. And John Ortberg's former church, Menlo Church in Menlo Park California, has yet more troubles. We begin today with a story from the United Methodist Church, which has been in turmoil for the last few years over doctrinal and other issues. Each week, MinistryWatch brings you news about Christian ministries, as well as the latest in charity and philanthropy, news that we examine from a Christian worldview perspective. Our goal is to help us become better stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. Before we go: I wanted to let our listeners know that we now have my Faith-Based Fraud available for sale to the public. Last year, we self-published an edition of 500 copies, and they quickly sold out. But we found a “real publisher,” Wild Blue Press out of Denver Colorado, and they're bringing out a hardback, paperback, ebook, and audio book version of Faith Based Fraud. On today's program, A boarding school in Missouri was abruptly shut down after allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. While cities, towns, and organizations are removing statues and re-naming buildings all over the country, the Southern Baptist Convention has decided to leave their buildings alone. We'll examine why. And we continue our Generous Living series with the story of a toy shop owner who became successful beyond his wildest dreams, but now believes it's what he gives, not what he makes, that will define his legacy. We begin today with several religious liberty stories. First up, a district court has temporarily granted a request from Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. The church can now gather for outdoor worship services. As usual, we just touch the tip of the iceberg here. To learn more, go to www.MinistryWatch.com and can read all the stories on today's podcast in full. Before we go, a couple of updates about MinistryWatch. Warren will be doing a webinar on the topic of “How To Find and Read a Form 990.” A Form 990 is a form that non-profit ministries have to fill out every year. It's a lot like a tax return except, of course, tax-exempt organizations don't pay taxes. It has a lot of helpful information on it, and we here at MinistryWatch look at them just about every day. In fact, we think ALL donors should examine a ministry's Form 990 before they donate to that ministry. But a lot of donors have told me they don't even know where to find them, or what to look for once they do find them. So we're going to do a webinar on that topic, starting with the very basics. Again, the webinar is called “How To Find and Read A Form 990.” That webinar will take place on Wednesday, Oct.28, at 3 pm ET. Mark your calendar and we'll have information about how to sign up for that webinar on the MinistryWatch website today. Also, regular listeners to the podcast know that through the month of September we were offering a copy of my new book “Faith-Based Fraud” to anyone who made a donation to MinistryWatch. The demand for the book was so great that we have printed more books and we've extended that offer through October. So if you missed the offer in September, it's not too late. If you'd like to know more or make a donation, you can go to www.MinistryWatch.com and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. Our goal is to help us become better stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. The producers for today’s program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. On today's program, trouble at the Bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates continues. We'll have an update. Also on today's program, the latest in our Generous Living series. Most of our stories focus on people giving away money, but in today's story, we feature a woman who literally gave away a part of herself. But we begin today with the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of Jerry Falwell Jr. and Liberty University. Before we go, I want to remind everyone that we started posting a second weekly episode to this podcast. Natasha and I will continue this weekly roundup of the week's MinistryWatch news, but the extra episode will be an interview with a writer or leader of a ministry we have a reporting partnership with. My first guest will be Paul Glader, who is the editor of Religion Unplugged, the head of the journalism program at The King's College in New York City, and a long-time reporter for the Wall Street Journal. I'm really excited about adding this new feature to the podcast, and I hope you'll check it out. Finally, I would like to remind you that there's a quick and easy and free way to support the program, and that's to rate us on your podcast app. The more ratings we have, the better the podcast performs with search engines. You can also leave a comment when you give us a rating. I can't respond via the app, but please know that I read all the comments and I find them encouraging and helpful. Each week, Warren Smith and Natasha Smith (no relation!) bring you news about Christian ministries, as well as the latest in charity and philanthropy, all designed to help us become better stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. We get database and other technical support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Christina Darnell, Shawn Hendrick, Daniel Jackson, and Warren Smith. May God bless you.

On today's program, our ongoing investigation of the Bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates continues. Also on today's program, Liberty University makes significant cuts to its philosophy department. Is it a sign of things to come? Plus, the people who give out journalism's top award, the Pulitzer Prize, has recognized religion coverage. We begin today with the story of the death of yet another megachurch pastor by his own hand. Darrin Patrick, a megachurch pastor, author, and speaker, has died. Patrick was a teaching pastor at Seacoast Church, a multi-site megachurch based in Mount Pleasant, SC, and the founding pastor of the Journey Church in St. Louis, where he lived. If you'd like to read more about the stories we discussed on today's program, just go to MinistryWatch.com and you'll find them right on the front page. If you'd like to dig into the MinistryWatch archives of hundreds of articles and other great resources, use the search engine – also on the front page -- to find what you're looking for. Also, before we go, I want to thank those of you who made a gift to MinistryWatch on Giving Tuesday Now this week. And I have a special announcement to make. If you make a gift of any size to MinistryWatch between now and the end of May, we'll send you a free copy of a book I wrote with John Stonestreet. It's called “Restoring All Things: God's Audacious Plan to Change The World Through Everyday People.” It's full of great stories like the one we just highlighted, on Mission Eurasia, of God's people doing God's work, in a beautiful but broken world. Go to www.MinistryWatch.com/donate And this podcast continues to grow, too. If you are one of our new listeners. Welcome! If you like what you've heard, I hope you'll be with us each and every week, and I hope you'll tell a friend. On today's program, we have an update on the massive Bible translation organization Wycliffe Associates. The group's PR and fundraising material says it can complete Bible translations in a matter of weeks. But are their claims true? Also on today's show: Willow Creek Community Church, which has been embroiled in controversy for years, has a new pastor. We'll introduce you to him. Plus, The Southern Baptist Church's Russell Moore weighs in on the question: Should churches take the government's COVID-19 relief funds? We begin today with a story we've been following for a couple of weeks, and that is the story of opposition to Samaritan's Purse Central Park field hospital. On Tuesday of this week, a group of LGBTQ activists protested at the Samaritan's Purse field hospital that the ministry had set up on the East Meadow lawn in Central Park. On today’s program we take a look at how Christian colleges are dealing with the COVID-19/Corona Virus outbreak. Also on today’s program: popular pastor David Jeremiah was recently inducted into the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame, but his induction came despite lingering questions about financial improprieties at his ministry. We begin today with Wycliffe Associates, one of the charter members of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). Wycliffe Associates voluntarily resigned on Feb, 21, 2020, “while under review” for potentially violating the ethical standards of the organization. Of the world's 7,100 languages, less than ten percent have a complete, written Bible. The Great Commission depends on translations into the heart languages of the lost. How can we get Scripture into the remaining languages without waiting for English-speaking experts in Greek and Hebrew to learn multiple foreign languages—or, is speeding up the process the wrong idea altogether? We dive deep this week with Dan Kramer of Wycliffe Associates who developed the MAST (Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation) methodology that is rapidly increasing the speed of translation across the globe, resulting in 254 complete New Testament translations. Dan Kramer worked for thirteen years in the field of education as faculty at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He came to Wycliffe Associates in 2009 to create an English program. Within three years, the program spanned across 25 countries. Today, Dan leads a staff of more than 60 people to spread of MAST reach the entire globe aside from a handful of nations, reaching into oral language groups, deaf and eventually deaf/blind populations. Dan resides in Orlando, Florida, with his wife Holly, and they have six children. Announcement: If you're coming to Together for the Gospel, join us for an expert panel and luncheon discussing the topic: who are “the nations,” and what can the local church do to reach them? Hear from Paul Davis, Zane Pratt, Darren Carlson, Brooks Buser, John Klaassen, and more debating the important issues raised in Darren's 2019 article on the meaning of the Great Commission. Register now for only $10, and enjoy lunch on us in Louisville on April 15! We're excited to partner with Live Global to pull off this event. If you haven't already signed up for T4G, use the promo code T4G20LiveGlobal10OFF to receive $10 off your registration. Remember to share, rate, leave a review, and subscribe. Together we can bridge the gap between the worlds of theology and missions. Want to ask a question or suggest a topic? Email us. This is Transmission Stories - an interview-style podcast series with Vic Francis along side the Shore Vineyard Transmission message series. In 2014, Wycliffe Associates developed a new Bible Translation method called the MAST Translation method, which speeds up Bible Translation projects tremendously, therefore getting copies of the Bible into languages that have been waiting for too long.
