Tom Hanks has starred in five movies directed by Steven Spielberg to date. Of those five, The Terminal is arguably the least-loved. Not only did it gross a modest (by Spielberg/Hanks standards) $77 million at the US box office, it is also the only one of their collaborations to secure zero Oscar nominations. Does this black sheep of their creative partnership deserve to languish in relative obscurity, or is it due for some timely re-evaluation? In this week's episode, we decided to find out - with mixed results all round. Tune into this week's podcast to hear our thoughts on unnecessary sub-plots, a tragic waste of Catherine Zeta Jones, a mind-boggling romance with Zoë Saldana and why we feel Spielberg films are often critic-proof. We also pull together some drinking games, share some reactions to this film from our listeners and of course pitch our sequel ideas to bring The Terminal back to the big screen. ----- Beyond The Box Set is a movie podcast with a twist. Every week, we take a look back at a classic standalone movie, and compete to pitch sequel, prequel and spin-off ideas to bring them back to the big screen. Egy ismeretlen hatalom fenyegetése mellett Kirknek a legénység mentális állapotát is kézben kell tartania: miközben Bailey hadnagy a külső nyomás miatt az összeomlás szélére sodródik, Dr. McCoy pedig folyamatosan osztja az észt, a kapitány blöffölve válaszol a reménytelennek tűnő sakkhelyzetre. Az aktuális Impulzusban a Pókerjátszma című epizódot elemezzük. Hírszekció: - A Kelvin filmek Uhurája, Zoë Saldana június 19-én ünnepelte a születésnapját. Találkozzunk június 30-án a Vault 51 Gamer Barban! - A CBS Alex Kurtzman hathatós közreműködésére támaszkodik a Star Trek televíziós terjeszkedésének a kivitelezésében.
Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's 2009 J.J. Abrams-led mission: to explore strange new ways to anger fans of the franchise, to seek out new life and new civilizations that will waste their money on total garbage, to boldly go where no man has gone before or ever wants to go again. Chris Pine plays James T. Kirk, a slimy tool bag whose life trajectory gets wildly altered when a time-traveling genocidal maniac appears out of nowhere and forces his dad into becoming a kamikaze. However, none of this ends up mattering because fate (and bad writing) leads him back to the same place he would have been all along with all of the same people around him. Zachary Quinto plays twenty-something Spock, an emotionally repressed half-human, half-Vulcan first officer with serious mommy issues. This guy is supposed to be all calm and logical, but he's about as prone to violent outbursts as Alec Baldwin. Eric Bana plays Nero, an interstellar space miner with Mike Tysonesque facial tattoos who loses his wife when a star explodes and destroys his home planet. Then, for no reason, he becomes hellbent on revenge against Spock, who was trying to save his home planet, and he ends up traveling back in time and decimating Spock’s homeworld. Leonard Nimoy plays old Spock from an alternative timeline, a Vulcan ambassador who doesn’t appear to be very good at diplomacy, because his actions lead to an interstellar incident that claims the lives of billions. Zoë Saldana plays Uhura, a beautiful communications officer who Kirk is obsessed with, but she ends up with Spock because no bad movie is complete without a love triangle. Karl Urban plays Bones, a physician and bitter divorcee who joins Star Fleet because he can't stand to even be on the same planet as his ex-wife. Simon Pegg plays Scotty, a bumbling engineer who always manages to narrowly get the crew out of jams through sheer dumb luck. John Cho plays Sulu, a katana brandishing helmsman who slices and dices his enemies faster than a Veg-O-Matic. Join us as we discuss James T. Kirk's creepiness in this, our desire to have Tyler Perry as Madea rather than just playing it straight here, and the likelihood of whether Jane Goodall banged any of her beloved chimps. How on earth (or any other planet) was James Cameron's 2009 film "Avatar" nominated for 9 Oscars and how is it currently the highest-grossing movie of all time? This movie doesn't brand itself as an animated film, even though it is, and somehow it won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. Weird. And, as everyone knows, this movie is a huge ripoff of tons of other stuff. It's amazing how many we were able to come up with. Sam Worthington plays Jake Sully, a Marine whose mission is to infiltrate the natives to help destroy them, but he joins them instead. Sounds familiar. Zoë Saldana plays Neytiri, a strong independent blue woman in line to lead her clan. Sigourney Weaver plays Grace Augustine, a brash no-nonsense scientist who smokes cigarettes 150 years from now. Michelle Rodriquez plays, well, herself, basically. We didn't think it was possible for a movie to get us to say the words "horse" and "rape" more than the movie "Casablanca" did, but we were wrong.
