What if the cure for Parkinson's isn't just here on Earth — but also in space? In this powerful episode of Wellness at the Speed of Light, I sat down with two extraordinary women shaping the future of medicine: Dr. Jeanne Loring, a world-renowned stem cell researcher Jenifer Raub, President of Summit for Stem Cell and a Parkinson's patient-turned-advocate Dr. Loring has developed lab-grown brain organoids—tiny but powerful models of the human brain. Through a groundbreaking collaboration with NASA, her team sent these engineered neurons to space to study how microgravity affects brain aging. The results? Neurons age faster in space. A discovery that could change everything we know about Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other neurodegenerative diseases. This research is personal for Jenifer Raub. After hearing Dr. Loring speak, she made it her mission to fund this work—raising millions and giving hope to patients worldwide. This is what happens when science, purpose, and persistence collide. Listeners dive into Kathleen Height's chilling tale "Eye of Evil," set in the mysterious Burmese jungle. The story follows Stephen Loring, who seeks his friend Campbell after receiving a distressing letter indicating Campbell's declining sanity. Loring's journey from Mandalay to the remote village of Pugan immerses him in a world of local superstitions and ominous lore about the "evil eye," creating a gripping atmosphere of dread. As Loring uncovers Campbell's descent into madness through cryptic signs and symbols, he confronts the psychological and supernatural forces at play. The narrative explores themes of perception, fear, and the seductive nature of darkness, culminating in a dramatic ritual that blurs the lines between reason and insanity. The haunting conclusion leaves listeners contemplating the nature of evil and the impact of ancient beliefs on human behavior.

Now, the US military could concentrate all it's attention on it's biggest threat, the Soviet Union. Tom's first assignment was in northern Maine, one of the last lines of defense during the Cold War. He then was sent to various other bases throughout the US, where he tested air launch nuclear missiles and spent time as an instructor. After 20 years in the USAF, he retired but continued to work as a contractor, training new crew members in B-52 operations. But more importantly for Nigel it also means that he may be able to do the "three small deeds" that will show he is worthy to ask for the hand of the Lady Mary in marriage.Filled with chivalry, humour, and high romance, Sir Nigel is simply a rattling good yarn.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Hi everyone! Thanks for bearing with me over the short summer break! It's good to be back and I've got a cracking episode to launch into the second half of the season. This one has it all, ghosts, murder... well alright, it's got ghosts and murder, but that's not bad! It is a darker one and has some fairly brutal murdery bits, but I don't think it's especially worse than what we've seen before. Little heads up though. I hope you enjoy! In the heart of Boston, Massachusetts, lies a 281 acre wooded parkland area known as Arnold's Arboretum. A beautiful botanical garden and research institution planted in naturalistic style, its serene park walks bely a history before its life as the arboretum, where dark events in its past stained the ground and transformed a popular picnic spot into an ugly memorial that few wished to visit. Several years later, these events in Boston found themselves tied into a story of a murderer that the contemporary press called “The most monstrous and inhuman criminal of modern times - or indeed any time,” though despite their shocking nature, they have somehow become largely forgotten, if not for a bizarre report of a ghost sighting that keeps the linked cases alive, sparking the public imagination. ------- This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp, check out betterhelp.com/darkhistories to get 10% off your first month. ------- SOURCES Brent, Henry Johnson (1868) Was it a Ghost?
