This podcast covers New Girl Season 2, Episode 2, Katie, which originally aired on September 25, 2012 and was written by Elizabeth Meriwether and directed by Larry Charles. Here’s a quick recap of the episode:Jess is still spiraling after losing her job, so Nick suggests that Jess go off the grid. She takes advantage of that when she pretends to be Katie, the date of Sam who enters their bar looking for the girl he’s been talking to online. Schmidt spends the entire episode trying to get Winston’s sister to sleep with him and Nick thinks he may have met his future self.We discuss these Pop Culture References:Jess and Nick pondered together who they aspired to be when they would watch MTV growing up. Jenny McCarthy - Jess wanted to be the actress and show host Jenny McCarthy. Kurt Loder - Nick wanted to be the music journalist Kurt Loder. Additional Pop Culture References such as:Shaq Attack - Schmidt told Winston his sister is so hot he’ll have to “Shaq Attack” her. Shaq Attack is the phrase fans used when the professional basketball player, Shaquille O’Neal, would show-off in basketball. Nick mentions that Kurt Loder never went to [MTV’s] Spring Break house because he was busy interviewing Pearl Jam. MTV Spring Break House - From 1987 to the mid-2010s, MTV would host “spring break” parties, typically at houses MTV would rent, featuring numerous live performances from artists in beach towns. Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam is an American Rock Band from Seattle, Washington that furthered the alternative grunge music sound. The Nutty Professor - When Jess shares she wants to remain as Katie, she’s warned about the cautionary tale called The Nutty Professor. The Nutty Professor is a 1996 American slapstick science-fiction comedy film starring Eddie Murphy, who portrays a morbidly obese professor, Sherman Klump, that develops an experimental weight-loss drug and tests it upon himself, hoping to win the affection of the girl of his dreams.Tyra Banks - Schmidt comments there’s “a lot of money he wants to deposit into [Alisha’s] Tyra Banks.” Tyra Banks is an American television personality, model, businesswoman, producer, actress, and writer, known for hosting the TV shows America’s Next Top Model and recently, Dancing with the Stars. L.A. Sparks - Winston’s sister played for the L.A. Sparks basketball team. Unlike Winston’s Latvian basketball team, the Los Angeles Sparks are a real American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California.Creed - Sam says he’s been to 48 Creed shows. Creed is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida and is often recognized as one of the prominent bands of the post-grunge movement that began in the mid-1990s. When Schmidt is thinking about time traveling, he talks about having a vision of himself meeting with Kanye & Beyoncé. Kanye - Kanye West is an American rapper, record producer, fashion designer, and politician. We dive even deeper to Kanye West in Episode 3 of the podcast!Beyoncé - Beyoncé is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer from Houston, Texas. Beyoncé was also mentioned in Episode 20, Normal, when Napoli wanted his milkshakes Beyoncé colored.Big Momma's House - When Winston’s Mom, Charmaine, comes in, Schmidt comments “it just became Big Momma’s House.” Big Momma's House is a 2000 American comedy film, starring Martin Lawrence as an FBI agent who is tasked with tracking down an escaped convict by going undercover as the estranged grandmother of their former girlfriend, unaware of the bond he will form with her.Leg Warmers - When Nick and Schmidt pretend to be dancers, they joke about wearing Leg Warmers. Leg Warmers are coverings for the lower legs and are often used as dancewear in order to keep the leg muscles warm and prevent cramping.Public Enemy’s “He Got Game” - At the end of the episode when Schmidt was playing basketball with Alisha, this song played. “He Got Game” is both a song and the sixth studio album by American hip hop group Public Enemy. It was originally released as the soundtrack to Spike Lee's 1998 film of the same name and was the group's last album until 2020. Cupid Match - “Cupid Match” is the online dating site Sam claims to have met Katie. While Cupid Match is not real, it’s a mix of OK Cupid and Match. We also cover when Schmidt and Nick discuss Nick’s future self as the “Schmidtism” of the episode. Our “not” for “In the 2020s” was how Schmidt handled being around Winston’s family but our “yes in the 2020s” was the friendship between Nick and Jess and how he leapt around the loft to help her sell the lie that she was Katie. We also explore the careers of Josh Braaten, Josh Gad, and Raymond J. Barry, the guest stars of this episode. Also in this episode were the following guest stars who we do not discuss in the podcast: Anna Maria Horsford (Charmaine, Winston’s mom), Keenyah Hill (Alisha, Winston’s sister), and David Walton (Sam, who we dive into deeper in Episode 3!)We discussed fun facts including how at Paleyfest 2013 it was noted that Emily Deschanel, Zooey Deschanel’s sister, was originally supposed to have a cameo as Katie in this episode. We also discuss how Winston’s whistle at the restaurant matches the whistle at the end of the theme song and how Lamorne Morris recently admitted to being the whistler on Instagram. Additionally, while their names aren’t spelled the same, we commented how Katy Perry’s new music video was a spoof on the fact that she used to pretend to be Zooey when she first came to Hollywood to get into clubs. Lastly, in our spoiler section, we also mentioned a Reddit post covering Future Nick’s predictions. While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:Catnip - Schmidt compares himself to catnip for tough-talking African-American women when speaking to Winston about his mom. Catnip is a plant that is known for the intense attraction that most cats have towards it. It is also popular to be used in herbal teas and valued for its relaxing properties.Phone Booth (Book) - When Bearclaw introduces himself he says that he’s in the phone booth but he meant to say he’s in the phone book. A phone book is a listing of all residents of a certain area with the names of the owners and addresses which would allow users to search a person’s number and address. A phone booth is a cubicle with a payphone in it that allows a user to pay to use the phone. When Nick talks about a world where time travel exists, Schmidt lists the following women [that he would want to sleep with]:Marie Antoinette - Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution. She was married at the age of 14 to Louis-Auguste, the heir-apparent of the French throne but was very unpopular with her French subjects. She was blamed for France’s financial crisis due to her lavish spending and opposition to reforms. She was known to be a good singer and dancer in addition to being beautiful.Cleopatra - Cleopatra was the last active ruler and queen of the Egyptian Ptolemaic Kingdom. She was Alexander the Great’s companion and was the seventh of her name. Her legacy survives today in ancient and modern works of art and she has become a pop culture of Egyptomania.Ann-Margret - Ann-Margret Olsson is a Swedish-American actress, singer, and dancer. She’s won 5 Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy over her 6 decades in the industry. Initially known as the female version of Elvis Presely, she started to see success in 1961 with a charting album in 1964. In 1995, Empire ranked her 10th on the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history list.Off the Grid - Nick encourages Jess to go “off the grid” in this episode and this is a reference to being untraceable by normal means, such as technology.Old-fashioned - In this episode, Future Nick suggests that Nick make Jess an old-fashioned and say sorry for something he does in the future. This is a cocktail made with bourbon, bitters, and sugar. When Schmidt goes to talk to Winston about his sister he uses the following basketball references:dribbling up the court - Dribbling is an action where a player uses one hand to continuously bounce a basketball without interruption. Traditionally the phrase that is used to refer to dribbling is dribbling down the court not up the court.Technical foul - A technical foul is a penalty given for either unsportsmanlike conduct or other infractions, like excessive timeouts, a delay-of-game, and when there are more players on the court than there should be.Illegal use of the hands - An illegal hand use in basketball is called when a player uses their hands in ways that are not part of the game such as attempting to block a shot, when an opponent drives to the hoop, or when a player puts their arms around another player.“knows how the sausage gets made” - When Jess is talking about how much she loves being Katie, she says that “Katie knows how the sausage gets made.” Sausage is typically made with pork, beef, veal, or poultry but can be made from any animal and can contain almost any part of the animal. This is an idiom to indicate finding out the process behind something that is typically unpleasant but at face-value appears good. This episode got an 8/10 Rating from Kritika whose favorite character was Nick, and Kelly rated this episode a 9/10 and her favorite character was Bearclaw! Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 3!Music: "Hotshot” by scottholmesmusic.comFollow us on Twitter, Instagram or email us at whosthatgirlpod@gmail.com!Website: https://smallscreenchatter.com/

COVIDleaf Radio's (Cloverleaf) host, "The Host with the Most" "The King of the Quarantine" welcome Actor/Stuntman, Ed Gale! Ed left his hometown two years after graduating from Plainwell High School (Plainwell, Michigan) at the age of 20 with $41 in his pocket and hitched a ride California to pursue his dream of being not a "star", but a steady working Hollywood "actor". His very first experience in the "biz" was auditioning for and subsequently winning the lead role of Howard The Duck. Initially he was told "you are too tall" (he keeps that letter readily available in his living-room and often refers to it with a humble smile). Early in his career, Ed had performed many of his own stunts such as being run over by a big rig, flying on wires, fight scenes, being tossed, thrown & dropped great distances, and crashing through the windshield of a moving vehicle. However, his most impressive stunts just might be his Full Body Burns in the first Child's Play movie and his Full Body Burn while "flying" on wires in Leprechaun 3. Ed Gale has appeared in over 130 Television Shows, Films, and Commercials to date; playing some of Hollywood's most famous (and infamous) characters such as "Howard" in the movie Howard The Duck; "Chucky" in Child's Play, Child's Play 2, and the Bride of Chucky; "Birdie the Early Bird" in one of the very few McDonland's commercials in which "Birdie" actually flew; "Tasha" (the baby dinosaur in the ABC Saturday morning kids show The New Land of the Lost; and the "The Mole" in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Other popular films to Ed Gale's credit include; Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Mom & Dad Save the World, and the Christmas Holiday Hit: the Polar Express. Out of Costume, Ed has played some rather notable "human" roles as well; "Hank Tarver" (The District), "Oscar" (3rd Rock from the Sun), "Stan" (Santa, Jr.), "Benson" (Call Me Claus), "Mr. Larry Briggs" (The Hughley's), "Jimmy" (Just Shoot Me), and "Baby Jesus" (Grounded for Life). Ed is probably most recognized for his roles as "Lavalle" (Bones), "Little Prisoner" (My Name is Earl), "Simon McKay" (Baywatch) and as the "Little Man" (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) Ed has starred, co-starred, & guest starred along side of some of the biggest names in Hollywood, the likes of which include: Lea Thompson, Kym Whitley, John Candy, Mel Brooks, Keanu Reeves, Catherine Hicks, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Ray Liotta, Charlton Heston, Billy Bob Thornton, Jeffrey Jones, Teri Garr, Hal Sparks, Holly Robinson-Peete, Caroline Rhea, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Bobby Lee and many, many more! Ed Gale is no stranger to Television Commercials either, pitching such products as: Burger King, Toys R US, Cingular Wireless, Best Buy, Progressive Insurance, Nike, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (with Fabio), Kinko's, Twisted Metal 4, Taco Bell, Polaroid Cameras, Snapple, McDonald's, Holiday Inn, Nissan Cars (Japan), California Eggs, & Sony Video. What if you found out that you’ve been exercising and dieting wrong all these years? Phil Catudal, believes that 70% of Americans are exercising and dieting the wrong way. According to Phil, we should exercise and diet based on the needs of our specific body types. Phil Catudal is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer. He is also a Nutrition expert, and celebrity fitness instructor based in Los Angeles, California. He recently celebrated the launch of his first book, JUST YOUR TYPE: The Ultimate Guide to Eating and Training Right for Your Body, a comprehensive and essential plan for matching diet and fitness regimens to different body types to achieve physical wellness. Celebrity clients he has worked with include Alan Ruck, Emily Deschanel, Sarah Shahi, Van Jones, and Steve Howey. In addition, Phil also trains a variety of other professionals, which accounts for about 50% of his business. Although Phil likes training celebrities, the downside is “once they book a role, you lose them for a few months.” Phil believes that it is always good to have regular clients in addition to the celebrity clientele. Phil Catudal, the early years Phil grew up in Montreal, Canada. As a child, Phil had Leukemia from age three to eight, for a total of 5 years. He is the youngest of 4 siblings. Phil’s father was a marathoner and bodybuilder. He passed away at the age of 45 because of a rare lung cancer. This tragedy instilled in Phil and his siblings the desire to focus more on their health. It was fitness that Phil and his family through the pain of dealing with the loss of their father. During the interview, Phil will discuss the impetus for his book. He also lists and explains the three body types: ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorphs. Ectomorphs are long and lean, with little body fat, and little muscle. They have a hard time gaining weight. Fashion models and basketball players fit this category. While most of us love to hate these genetically-blessed individuals, some male ectomorphs may not be thrilled with their narrow-chested frames, and some female ectomorphs long for more womanly curves. Endomorphs, on the other hand, have lots of body fat, lots of muscle, and gain weight easily. Football lineman tends to be endomorphs -- they're heavier and rounder individuals. And they don't have to necessarily be overweight. Both Oprah Winfrey and Marilyn Monroe are classic examples of endomorphs. Mesomorphs are athletic, solid, and strong. They're not overweight and not underweight, and they can eat what they want without worrying too much about it. They both gain and lose weight without too much effort. Phil believes that once you begin training and eating according to your body type, you will achieve your fitness goals much faster. He has real case studies to back up his claims. I am offering a free copy of Phil’s book to the first 4 people, who after listening to the podcast; share their thoughts about Phil’s message. Training according to your body type may be just what you need to lose weight, build muscle, and get into the best shape of your life. You don’t want to miss this interview.

This week on Random Telly Vision, we’re watching Bones! That’s right! The beloved children’s cartoon about a skeleton who comes to life and becomes the hit percussionist (and percussion section) of the London Symphony Orchestra! Obviously not, but we may have to create that show. This is of course the well known tv series starring David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. We hope you enjoy our confused conversations about Bones, series 9, episode 6.

In this episode I interview Cynthia King, founder and executive director of Cynthia King Dance Studio (CKDS) located in Brooklyn, New York. The vegan studio has been a vital part of Brooklyn's rich dance culture for more than 15 years. In 2014, after nearly two decades of presenting dance works in Flatbush, Cynthia opened her new studio and performance space in the heart of the neighborhood. Having danced professionally since 1978 and taught since 1986 in both public and private schools, Cynthia and the studio have become staples in the local community, supporting a wide variety of civic and educational organizations. In May 2015, she received the prestigious Boston Conservatory Distinguished Alumni Award (one of many acknowledgements for her work). Later that year, she established the Cynthia King Humane Artists Scholarship, which is awarded to an incoming Boston Conservatory student who embodies compassionate living. In addition to running her dance studio – which offers a range of classes for both children and adults, including a pre-professional course – on vegan principles, Cynthia is the creator of the Cynthia King Vegan Ballet Slippers, her signature line of cruelty-free ballet shoes. These are worn by compassionate dancers from across the globe, and have been seen on the feet of Natalie Portman and Emily Deschanel. In this interview Cynthia talks about: • How she weaves her vegan ethics into the business to influence students, parents and staff • Advice for vegan actors, dancers and other entertainers on how to navigate showbusiness, especially if you're asked to wear animal-based fashions • How being an active part of the local community has been a key factor in her success • The challenges she faced when moving studios and how she handled them • Why being positioned as the more expensive end of your market can be beneficial • How she handles pushback from students or parents who complain about not being allowed to bring animal products, including food and leather shoes, into the studio • How standing your ground despite being perceived as ‘difficult' can be advantageous to your business, particularly in the long term • And much more Visit the Cynthia King Dance Studio website Check out Cynthia's signature line of vegan ballet slippers Brands mentioned in vegan business news roundup: Thrive: The Plant Based Food Show Plantcurious Whole Health Club RESOURCES: My Online PR Course for Vegan Business Owners & Entrepreneurs: Vegans in the Limelight My book Vegan Ventures: Start and Grow an Ethical Business Follow Vegan Business Media on: Facebook Twitter Instagram Connect with me personally at: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn

These are worn by compassionate dancers from across the globe, and have been seen on the feet of Natalie Portman and Emily Deschanel. In this interview Cynthia talks about: • How she weaves her vegan ethics into the business to influence students, parents and staff • Advice for vegan actors, dancers and other entertainers on how to navigate showbusiness, especially if you’re asked to wear animal-based fashions • How being an active part of the local community has been a key factor in her success • The challenges she faced when moving studios and how she handled them • Why being positioned as the more expensive end of your market can be beneficial • How she handles pushback from students or parents who complain about not being allowed to bring animal products, including food and leather shoes, into the studio • How standing your ground despite being perceived as ‘difficult’ can be advantageous to your business, particularly in the long term • And much more Visit the Cynthia King Dance Studio website Check out Cynthia’s signature line of vegan ballet slippers Brands mentioned in vegan business news roundup: Thrive: The Plant Based Food Show Plantcurious Whole Health Club RESOURCES: My Online PR Course for Vegan Business Owners & Entrepreneurs: Vegans in the Limelight My book Vegan Ventures: Start and Grow an Ethical Business Follow Vegan Business Media on: Facebook Twitter Instagram Connect with me personally at: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn
Another goddamn miniseries. Rose Red is the story of a house that is mean. If you try to go in it, you'll get some bees on you. We follow a ragtag team of psychic misfits, one of whom is Emily Deschanel, as they try to help a professor preserve her academic integrity by engaging in a ghost hunt. We learned a lot from this one--most notably, that Gavin Belson from Silicon Valley used to be fat. ALSO IN THIS EPISODE: Fun with Rimbauer We got shirts! In this episode I interview Elizabeth Olsen, founder of Olsenhaus Pure Vegan, a footwear company that was launched in New York in 2008. Just two years later in 2010, the line was sold in 16 countries in prominent retailers including Barneys and Nordstrom as well as eco-boutique stores. Both the brand and Elizabeth have been featured in a ton of high-profile media including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Olsenhaus shoes have captured the attention of celebrities including Emily Deschanel, Alicia Silverstone, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz and have even been displayed in museums. Before launching Olsenhaus, Elizabeth held a number of prestigious positions at renowned brands including Creative Director for Tommy Hilfiger handbags, and in Creative Direction and Design for Calvin Klein, Nine West and many others. She also had a career as a wardrobe and prop stylist in film, commercials and print for clients including Nike, IBM, Nissan and Universal Studios and was Producer and Head of Wardrobe for the photography agency Superstock. During her travels for these companies, she witnessed the horrendous animal cruelty, devastating environmental pollution and hazardous working conditions in the leather industry and launched Olsenhaus as a socially-conscious alternative. Elizabeth runs the business out of Florida nowadays and is writing a book on consciousness. In this interview she discusses: • The psychological strategies she uses to educate retail buyers to overcome resistance, overwhelm and defensiveness • Why she decided to launch her online store after initially doing wholesale only • Why she's joined forces in a collaboration with two other vegan brands – including another vegan shoe company • How she got her shoes on the feet of celebrities • The importance of having legal counsel to protect your business • And much more Visit the Olsenhaus Pure Vegan website Brands mentioned in vegan business news roundup: Spiral Diner Mono Good Rebel Beyond Meat RESOURCES: My Online PR Course for Vegan Business Owners & Entrepreneurs: Vegans in the Limelight My book Vegan Ventures: Start and Grow an Ethical Business Follow Vegan Business Media on: Facebook Twitter Instagram Connect with me personally at: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn

Stephen Nathan (Bones, Joan of Arcadia, Family Law) discusses career in executive producing sit-coms and one-hour drama series and offers a detailed look into a ten-year run on the hit comedy-procedural Bones. We talk about: The future of consuming visual content Writing and executive producing Bones for a decade The special 200th "Hitchcock" episode of Bones in Technicolor The evolution of two central characters Balancing plot and character within episodes Social media fan support -- the positive and the negative Transitioning from New York and the stage to LA and a role in Bonanza The demanding schedule of a showrunner Cross-training with playwriting Quotes from the show: "Ten years on one show... I could have become a doctor." "There are two characters; we pick them up at one part of their lives, and then, when the series ends, you leave them in another part of their lives." "The more controversial something is-- or the more upset the audience was-- the more they talked about it, and the more people wanted to see what they were talking about." "I have felt so lucky and so fortunate to be able to do what I love, and eat because of it. I don't take that lightly." "There has to be an element of truth. That holds true for any genre, any literature... What's the ticker? What's that little piece of humanity that's the reason we watch the show?"
B-b-bones y'all! No, Halloween didn't come early, we just watched an episode of the quirky fox detective drama that was far more delightful than unnerving given the premise. This week we thoroughly enjoyed what sounds like we might be describing a cold soda on a warm day as we found Bones to be delightful, refreshing, crisp, but just dangerous enough. Listen along as we talk about progressive issues facing women dating, upbeat banter, weighing in on our favorite characters and grieving over poor Daisy losing her job. She only lasted a day, and guys she REALLY likes Dr. Brennan. Spoiler alert for all of you who haven't seen this show, the main character, Emily Deschanel's, name ISN'T "Bones"! Right? We were devastated too. Tune in each Monday as we choose a new show and make more wildly inaccurate assumptions. Okay byeeeeee.

Hey ATA Listeners, it's Dan here with a podcast that's a little on the long side this week, but it's totally worth the listen because this episode features some really great reviews of Chuck, Castle, Bones, Fringe, Smallville, and Supernatural that are thought provoking and highly entertaining too. Wow I used the word "too", I hate that word, it makes me sound like the Wicked Witch, a Dr. Seuss book or even worse Arthur Petrelli for you Heroes fans out there, blah! Anyway, this week's episode included Nico and Dan actually having their "first fight" just like Chuck and Sarah. Plus on top of that our fight was over the future of the show Chuck, now that the Intersect has been remove from his head. However, before things got heated like a crappy reality show, Nico turn his anger towards Booth's new girlfriend on Bones, Hanna who he accuses of making David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel look like buffoons. Yes, Nico does use the word buffoons in this podcast. Also, I make things up to Nico by saying a comment that causes him to crack up laughing but it might have also bought us tickets to the very place where Sam Winchester or the show Supernatural's missing soul can be found.
