For this episode, my guest Dr. Christine Gibson, MD, CCFP is a family doctor and trauma therapist in equity-denied communities, author of The Modern Trauma Toolkit, and goes by “tiktoktraumadoc" on TikTok. In our talk, we explore modern trauma and how to recognize, process and potentially heal from it. Trauma is more pervasive in society than we realize, and our healers—including doctors and therapists—often lack the adequate tools and time to address these deep-seated issues. This is a topic many of us doctors weren't taught much about in medical school and patients often struggle to articulate their feelings surrounding it. And whether we are doctors or patients, we struggle because of this collective gap in proper knowledge around trauma. Fortunately, Dr. Gibson offers valuable insights to help fill in the gap. We define modern trauma and why it has become so problematic, how we can heal and move forward from trauma, the difference between resilience and post-traumatic growth, and so much more. While we still have a long way to go in understand trauma, healing is possible for anyone willing to seek it. I hope that our discussion helps you to better understand modern trauma and to more effectively heal from your own trauma wounds.Connect with Dr. Christine Gibson, MD:FacebookTikTokX/TwitterWebsiteConnect with Dr. Jonar, MD:Book Your Free Health Coaching Consult with Dr. Jonar4 Truth Health CoachingInstagramFacebookLinkedinThreadsDr. Jonar WebsiteHOW CAN I SUPPORT THIS PODCAST?Download, Listen, Subscribe, Rate & Review: Glass Half Healthy on Apple PodcastGlass Half Healthy on Spotify Tell Your Friends & Share Online! Thanks to my intern, Amelia Liu, to Jacob Ferrer for their production help, and to StockSounds for the music. Why does something bad have to happen to our health before we finally feel motivated to do something about it? As a society, we react to health problems rather than prevent them. From grade school to college, no one is teaching us how to be healthy and stay that way. So, I did research to create my own plan. Through the process, my body returned to its natural state of being because I redefined health for myself. This begs the question - how do you define health? I am Dr. Jonar and this is my podcast, the Glass Half Healthy! As a trained physician and CEO of 4 Truth Health Coaching, I will help redefine health and wellbeing through conversations with thought provoking guests. So, join me on this journey as we walk together on the path of healthier living.Connect with Dr. Jonar, MD:Book a Discovery Call with Dr. Jonar4 Truth Health CoachingInstagram Facebook Linkedin ThreadsDr. On my very first episode of the Glass Half Healthy, I take you through my journey to get here. The Lives that Saved Mine is not just the title of the episode but really, the theme of my life. And my journey is not mine alone, it started with my parents moving to the U.S. to provide us with opportunities for a better future. I discuss how losing my father inspired me from my prior career pursuits in international affairs to become a doctor. I also talk about my struggles, failures and triumphs along this path. Through it all, I reclaimed my health, reignited my passion for medicine and renewed my love for life but I did not get here by myself. So, The Lives that Saved Mine is dedicated to not just my parents, but all the people - my family, my friends, fellow physicians, mentors and all the patients I've cared for - who helped me get here, in this moment, to help you redefine what health should mean for all of us. I hope my story inspires you to take action towards a happier and healthier life.
