With less than three weeks to go before the deadline to pass legislation to keep the federal government running, lawmakers are still far apart on a strategy. Democrats hope Republicans agree to extend expanded tax credits for the Affordable Care Act as part of a compromise, but so far Republicans are not negotiating. Meanwhile, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. released his long-awaited “Make America Healthy Again” report, with few specific action items. Sandhya Raman of CQ Roll Call, Lauren Weber of The Washington Post, and Anna Edney of Bloomberg News join KFF Health News' Julie Rovner to discuss these stories and more.Plus, for “extra credit” the panelists suggest health policy stories they read (or wrote) this week that they think you should read, too: Julie Rovner: NPR's “What Kind of Dairy Does a Body Good? Science Is Updating the Answer,” by Will Stone. Anna Edney: Bloomberg News' “The Implants Were Supposed to Dissolve. They Didn't,” by Anna Edney and Tanaz Meghjani. Sandhya Raman: The Texas Tribune's “Texas' New Parental Consent Law Leaves School Nurses Confused About Which Services They Can Provide to Students,” by Jaden Edison. Lauren Weber: ProPublica's “‘Just Let Me Die,'” by Duaa Eldeib. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this episode of Unleashing Intuition Secrets, host Michael Jaco is joined by Noah from Optimum Nutrition to unpack one of the most controversial health questions of our time: raw milk vs. pasteurized milk. Together, they explore the history of pasteurization and how it reshaped public perception of milk, the health risks linked to pasteurized milk, and the powerful benefits of raw milk that have been overlooked or suppressed. From its rich nutritional profile — packed with vitamins, enzymes, and probiotics — to the ways it supports immunity and gut health, this conversation reveals why so many believe raw milk is a truly superior natural food. Michael and Noah also offer practical guidance on safely sourcing and consuming raw milk, empowering you to make informed decisions about what's really nourishing your body.   In this episode, I sit down with psychologist, author, and menopause researcher Dr Hillary McBride to explore what it means to truly come home to our bodies - to treat them like a best friend. Hillary's work spans critical topics like trauma, eating disorders, and women's health, with a particular focus on menopause as a transformative experience. Through her books, The Wisdom of Your Body and Practices for Embodied Living, Hillary advocates for a reconnection with our bodies, inviting us to listen to, honour, and celebrate our physical selves. Using Hillary's vivid metaphor of our body as a home, we discuss the absurdity of ‘living on the front lawn' and basing our worth on this external perspective. She encourages us to find our way back inside the home and make the most of the rich experiences to be found within. Hillary champions supportive environments where women can share their experiences free from judgement - her research demonstrates the positive and practical impact of women talking about menopause with each other… this information is too good not to share - come and sit with this wise soul who loves helping women find safety and solace in our very own bodies! Our guest today, Lauren Kretzer, is a vegan chef, recipe developer, and holistic nutritionist. She has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and cooked privately for celebrities. Her work has been featured in magazines like Vogue and New York Magazine, PLUS her recipes are in some of your favorite vegan cookbooks.  In 2020, while the world was being forever altered by a pandemic, she was forced to square off against a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Rather than undergo formal treatment, Lauren chose to fight back with a holistic approach. Today, Lauren is cancer-free, and she has a message – food can be our greatest healer.  Tune in to learn from this renowned chef and cancer survivor what foods we should all be eating more of!   “Being plant-based around the holidays is not as difficult as people anticipate. I think in terms of the menu, speaking about Thanksgiving specifically, but also true for the December holidays as well, most people are excited about the sides. So, when you think about Thanksgiving, even meat eaters will tell you that turkey is probably not high on their list of things that they really love. It's just part of the tradition and part of the centerpiece of the table, but you can have lots of beautiful centerpieces for a table that aren't a bird. You know, I personally splurge for a beautiful floral arrangement that day, which I normally don't do, but I will, you know, go all out on that. And then I'll make sure that I have gorgeous dishes of lots of other abundant things on the table. So, we still have mashed potatoes in my family, we just make them plant-based. We have vegan stuffing. We have vegan green beans. We have cranberry sauce, of course, which is naturally vegan. All the traditional Thanksgiving dishes can be made plant-based.” – Lauren Kretzer   What we discuss in this episode: - Switch4Good's efforts to remove dairy from the dietary guidelines.  - The events that led to Lauren receiving a cancer diagnosis.  - How she overcame fear and negativity after receiving her diagnosis.  - Why Lauren chose a holistic approach rather than conventional therapy. - The changes she made to remain cancer-free. - Lauren's list of anti-cancer foods. - The importance of reducing stress and the stress reduction techniques Lauren employs. - What she does every day to stay healthy. - Lauren's tips for raising vegan children. - Her plant-based holiday tips.   - Lauren's work as a recipe developer. Gerardo Sámano Córdova is a writer and artist from Mexico City. In his debut novel, Monstrilio, Gerardo draws from both horror and literary fiction traditions to tell a story about grief, family, and self-acceptance. In our conversation, Gerardo and I talked about genre expectations, genre fiction as a site of art, and what it means to be monstrous. For the second segment, we talked about the tension between fulfilling your own artistic vision and creating work that will sell. Life is full of questions: Why are we here? What's the point? How can I possibly get tickets to see Taylor Swift? But when Californians concerned about declines in milk consumption decided to revamp their marketing approach, they had a different two-word question in mind. And that question became a slogan, which then became a viral sensation that rocketed the ad campaign into public awareness, and is still immediately recognizable more than thirty years later.Rob teaches Ray about the California Milk Processor Board and its hand in creating the viral “Got Milk?” campaign; other beverage ads of that era that inspired the marketing of milk; how Michael Bay created an award-winning ad - about milk - that went viral; how the simple tagline on these ads became an instantly recognizable meme; and whether or not the “Got Milk?” campaign actually accomplished its goal: make people drink more milk!If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreonor subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. When was the last time you got a really good night's sleep? Most people aren't getting enough sleep and millions of Americans are sleep deprived. Sleep is essential to our physical and mental health, and believe it or not, most Americans don't know what it feels like to be fully alert and awake. More than one third of all Americans aren't getting enough sleep and sleep medications aren't the answer! "When people sacrifice sleep, everything from our personal health, relationships, and our sense of wonder is diminished," sleep researcher Dr. David Gozal. O
