Listeners of HEALIN with Karen Millon that love the show mention: karen, caused by emotional and mental health issues, and we had a comprehensive discussion on how she treats them. We discussed the biggest factor affecting children and teens these days and what to do about it, and why it was important for her as a pediatrician to also prioritize her wellness in many ways, including working with a professional coach and prioritizing living as her most authentic self through her own healing and growth.
This is a fascinating discussion with clinical Cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Fisher, in which he shares the struggles that arise from the rigorous medical school education and practice and shares with us how getting support and working with positive psychology, mindfulness, compassion, and many other practices, especially mindset work - using the awareness of our thoughts and how they affect our feelings and actions - helped him to to become more present, productive, and fulfilled physician and person. This initially self-directed work led him to become a recognized well-being leader, to write his upcoming book "One Heart, A Cardiologist Guide to Healing, Health and Happiness,” and established him as the head of a wellness program in his institution. His transformational programs have helped hundreds of leaders. Order his book at www.justoneheartbook.com and learn more about Dr. Fisher by following him at @happyheartmd on Instagram and on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/happyheartmd.
I had an educational and fascinating discussion with Dr. Arielle Schwartz about her journey into the amazing work that she is doing today, which included the trauma experienced as a result of being the child of a healthy divorce, and how living in two households impacted her psychologically and psychologically. She explained how we store trauma in the connective tissues, the fascia, how this affects our bodies, and how this leads to headaches, migraines and chronic pain. She shared the why and how therapeutic yoga works and how the poses and breathing truly helps with healing our bodies from whatever we have experienced in the past. We talked about why EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which it was the first time that I learned this, and why vagus nerve exercises should be part of our daily self care routine! Dr. Schwartz, is a psychologist, an internationally sought-out teacher, a yoga instructor, and leading voice in the healing of PTSD and complex trauma. She is the author of six books, including EMDR Therapy and Somatic Psychology, The Post Traumatic Growth Guidebook, and Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma Recovery that I just finished reading and loved. You can find and learn more about Dr. Schwartz on her webside at www.drarielleschwartz.com on Facebook or on YouTube where she has many recordings of her yoga practice and more. Please look into her upcoming Vagus Nerve Course in August of 2023! I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did, and if you did, please share it, and rate it to help me and my guest inspire as many people as possible to do this work.
Episode 100th is celebrated by having a very special guest for me, one of my most active and favorite clients, my beloved husband of 10 years, Dr. Paul Haser. We talked about his path into self growth, why it is hard for medical professionals to get support, all the areas where coaching has been very valuable to him, and all the key take-aways! We also shared some insights and wisdom on why I and anyone who knows him, considers him an amazing husband, father, friend and doctor.
I had an amazing conversation with Dr. Aimie Apigian, who is a physician turned trauma expert and who explained, at a deeper physiological level, what happens to our bodies when we experience trauma and share with us what I consider is a complete and comprehensive (mind and body) approach to healing trauma. We talked about her journey from medicine to trauma healing, we discussed what trauma is, the differences between a stress response and a trauma response, how experiencing trauma affects our entire metabolism, digestive systems, our lungs, and cardiovascular system, and her approach of the 3 essential pillars to addressing and treating trauma. I had a fascinating conversation with Performance Coach and expert in Polyvagal Theory about what happens to our bodies and our nervous system on "game day" and how Polyvagal Theory can significantly help for us to help our bodies find our homeostasis "game zone" so that we can be at ease, be in stillness and in the present moment and "show up" to our kids and at work the way we want to show up! We had a conversation about his program called the PlayZone, how it works and how it can be applied to any profession and at home as parents. You can find Michael Allison and his program for coaches, therapists, leades, educations and performers at www.theplayzone.com or at the Polyvagal Institute where he is also an instructor.
I had a heartfelt conversation with Kaity, a Somatic Yoga Therapist and the Founder of Her Temple Healing, were we shared our personal experiences with yoga in general and with Somatic Yoga Therapy, after I experienced it first hand with her. This is the first episode on a new series on how to heal trauma from our bodies. I had a very informative conversation with Dr. Kim Di'Re, an experience and reputable Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, who explained to us in detail, why and how we retain trauma in our bodies, our anatomic nervous system activation and the cycle of a trauma response, e.g. what happens in our nervous system when we get triggered, and most importantly, the many techniques available, that we can practice, to slowly but surely heal our nervous system. You can find Dr. Kim DiRe's work at www.kimdire.com and the drawing of the anatomic nervous system activation cycle on my Instagram account at healinwithkaren.
This is a continuation of episode #94 explaining why you are not broken, but that it is extremely rare for anyone to escape childhood without forming any kind or limiting or negative thoughts or beliefs that are affecting our minds and our nervous system today and driving all we do or don't do. This is an explanation of what trauma is, what all the different types of trauma are and a case of why increasing awareness and working around it will change your life.
I am super excited about this episode as it was requested by many to be shared with anyone that you know who is convinced that they don't need any help or any support at all. They may be right! I share the times when you can work on yourself on your own, and when is the time that I personally and professionally believe that you can significantly profit from investing time and resources into getting support and why! You are not alone, I have been there too, before. I hope you find this episode helpful! Please let me know what you think and if I missed anything by DMing me in Linked In at Karen Millon or at @healinwithkaren on Instagram. I had the immense pleasure of speaking with Emiliya Zhivotovskaya about her journey of loss and how intuitive principles of resilience and positive psychology helped her heal and thrive through all her challenges by reframing and finding meaning from all her life experiences into thriving and post traumatic growth that drove her to study Positive Psychology and many other modalities and founding the Flourishing Center that has now trained over 1,600 coaches in over 53 countries and continue on a mission to spread the flourishing to as many individuals, organizations and schools as possible. We discussed in detail the principles of positive psychology, which include managing our mind, our emotions, our physical bodies and our social/spiritual needs as well as the importance of incorporating our bodies in the healing and thriving process. Healing and mindset are a crucial part of personal growth, but principles of Positive Psychology is what gets us to thrive and flow! It is when we incorporate it all, when we can take healing and thriving to the next level! You can find Emiliya at the www.theflourishingcenter.com and @theflourishingcenter on IG.
We continued our conversation from episode 91 on Mindfulness and discuss how she incorporates CBT, (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), that is also practiced by most Certified coaches, as well as ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) skills in identifying our core values, with also looking deeply to our old wounds with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) when is applicable. And when this also incorporates a Mindfulness practice it can be very powerful and take healing to the next level, especially when it comes to saving our marriages or in healing after divorce.
I had a heartfelt and important discussion with Dr. Michelle Maidenberg about Mindfulness, what it is, how it works and how it differs from other more cognitive therapeutic modalities. We discussed why it is hard to achieve and our propensity to avoid paying attention and feeling to our thoughts and feelings, which she discussed at length on her Ted Talk: Circumventing Emotional Avoidance. She shared it's evidence based validity, its tremendous benefits to our brain and to cope with anxiety and the stressors of everyday life and to heal. We ended our conversation sharing how it changed both of our personal lives and how it can change yours. You can find and follow Dr. Maidenberg on her website at www.michellemaidenberg.com , www.thrumyeyes.org, on Psychology Today, or on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube @drmichellemaidenberg .
If you want to reduce conflict, improve the outcomes of your divorce, and learn how coaching can significantly help you, this is the episode for you! This is a new and exciting episode for me, as I interview one of my very first divorce clients, Melissa Kalil, who profited from coaching so much that she decided to become a coach herself! She wanted to share her coaching experience with you, to let you know that you are not alone in this, and to share with you detailed examples of how coaching helped her and can also help you too! We discussed some of the more common thoughts that she had after her own divorce, and that are so common after divorce e.g. this is all my fault, or I now have baggage and no one will want to date me. etc etc. We explain how these thoughts can become stories that we then believe and become destructive enough to significantly affect your life, your progress, the conflict and outcome of your divorce AND your healing journey. After her own personal experience with divorce, and her own coaching experience, Melissa Kalil became a Certified Professional Coach and a Certified Divorce Specialist and is getting certified in NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programing and she explains how it works! Melissa has coached me, and I can testify that she is an amazing coach and that she is passionate about helping others manage and organize their mind through all stages of divorce, especially those in high conflict situations. I share with you what research, as well as my own personal experience has shown me to be the most important aspects of having and growing a happy passionate marriage. It is worth your time. If you want to learn more, please subscribe and check out other episodes and follow me at @healinwithkaren and @healinpodcast.
Our weight and appearance comes up a lot with my male and female clients as they want to start dating after divorce. On this episode, I explain why research shows that most diets do not work and why working with a coach or Cognitive Behavioral therapist would be extremely beneficial for your weight loss goals or to feel better about your appearance. I explain why what we think about our weight or appearance directly affects how we feel and therefore what we do and don't do, that then perpetuates the same unsatisfactory or negative thoughts about ourselves. I give several examples of these thoughts and how it affects us and what we can do to get the results that we want or feel the way we want and deserve to feel. If you find this episode helpful, please subscribe, share, rate and review and please let me know what you think by DM at @healinwithkaren or @healinpodcast.
While I have an education in business and over 24 years of business entrepreneurship experience that I use in my coaching, the business coaching that I do is mostly focused on creating the awareness of how our negative thoughts and beliefs affect what we do, or avoid doing as we start and even continue to grow our businesses. On this episode, I talk about how this works, and give many examples that you could relate to as you too, try to start or to grow your legal, counseling, coaching. medical practices or small business. For any comments or areas of coaching and healing that you want me to talk about, please DM me at @healinwithkaren or @healinpodcast on Instagram. If you find this episode helpful, please subscribe, rate and review. Thank you!
Do you want to understand why suffering is optional? In this episode, I talk about the fundamentals of coaching and the importance of building awareness of our thoughts and beliefs because it is in this awareness that we can decrease our suffering and conflict/actions or increase our peace and happiness. For any feedback or comments, please DM me at @healinwithkaren or @healinpodcast
In this episode, I recap what coaching is, and I talk about the difference between traditional talk therapy, coaching, and deeper healing modalities like EMDR, IFS, Somatic Experience, and more. I talk about trauma, the fact that very few of us had a perfect childhood, and what the ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Study considers as trauma, and most importantly, when you would profit from deeper healing modalities and when you can profit from using both. My goal is to inspire you to heal, to grow, and to feel better, do better and be better. Please let me know what you think by sending me a message at @healinwithkaren on Instagram or on my website at www.healin.net

In this episode, I speak with psychologist and "Divorce Doctor" to learn and understand how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Somatic Experiencing work to help people heal specifically after divorce and how both modalities can be integrated to achieve even greater healing results. We also learned about her online course "The Ultimate Divorce Kit", and gained great tips on how to we can "stay on our own lane" and be better parents for our children during and after divorce.
In this episode, I have one of the most valuable conversations because it is information that we can all relate to and immediately bring awareness on why we do the things we do or feel the way we do. I have the pleasure of having an in-depth discussion with licensed psychotherapist and clinical supervisor Christy O'Shoney, about attachment styles, about the research behind them, about what they are and what causes them and how they get manifested in our adult lives. We also discuss the way we can gain awareness of them and start to heal as well as how AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) is and works to regain access to our core relational emotions and teach us how to process these emotions experientially so that we can slowly move from perhaps an anxious or avoidant or disorganized attachment style, to a more secure one. You can find Christy O'Shoney at www.mytherapynyc.com or at www.christyoshoney.com or on Instagram at @mytherapynyc or @christyoshoneytherapy.
Accredited EFT and Sex Therapist - On Marriage, Attachment and Sex with Michael Moran.
A conversation to explain Brene Brown's theories and how the Daring Way and Rising Strong workshops work and how they help you walk away from shame and into achieving the life you want
We continue our conversation about healing trauma with Attachment based therapy, somatic techniques, the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and how can we choose the right therapist for us.
My goal is to inspire you to heal by sharing all the different healing modalities out there and this one is one of a kind. On this episode, I was super excited to learn all about IFS (Internal Family Systems) with Heather Smith who a Licensed Professional Counselor and who has been certified on this modality for years. We talked about the history of IFS, and how it was developed by Dr. Richard Schwatz as a result of working with a bulimic patient, what all of our "parts" are, and how IFS works to access them and slowly and carefully "unburden" them so that they can go back into harmony and do what they would rather do! We all have parts, or "voices" whose role is to keep us protected from accessing our deepest fears or wounds and while these protect us in the short term and most often helped us survive and even thrive professionally, these parts don't offer our long-term health and wellbeing so when we feel unhappy or "stuck" looking at these parts to heal them, may before extremely beneficial to set us free.
I had the honor of having a conversation with one of the top legends in the divorce better world, experienced Susan Guthrie who has been practicing family law as a litigator and most recently as a mediator for over 30 years and who is the host of the Divorce and Beyond Podcast. If you are on the fence about whether to hire or recommend a therapist or coach to help you through your or your client's divorce, this is the episode for you!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Laila Aitken Ali, @thesplitcoach about her difficult history with divorce, her personal divorce journey, and the experiences she gained that she now uses to fuel her passion by working as a split coach for others going through a similar situation. While embracing her new calling in life as a divorce coach, it gave her the founding idea for the online platform that she co-founded, Split.fyi as the place for anyone thinking of, or going through a divorce to have access to education, ability to build a community of support, get guidance, advice and create a strategy for their divorce journey. They will have the ability to get to know and work with divorce and financial professionals within the site. We talked about what beliefs are, where they come from, and are formed. We discussed the most common negative beliefs, especially those beliefs behind our unhealthy romantic relationships, and many other unhealthy patterns that keep us stuck. We talked in detail about the Lefkoe Method and how it works to identify and eliminate the negative belief and about the way we give meaning to events and the importance of understanding this. We ended the conversation talking about her pivotal work in educating parents with her parenting courses to make sure that we are raising emotionally healthy and confident adults. A must listen to raise healthy children and for us to eliminate those negative beliefs that are holding us back and preventing us from thriving in life in general, but especially after divorce. I had the joy of having a conversation with "sister phoenix" Tiffany Harnsongkram from @fromdivorcetodestiny about what it means to be using divorce as a conscious awakening and what conscious divorce coaching means as well as how truly difficult it is to be getting a divorce after been raised in deep Christian values that then bring very strong feelings of wrongdoing, "end of the world", and deep shame in an already hearth breaking traumatic event of divorce. She shared her healing journey and how she rose from the ashes, which included a complete deconstruction of her religious upbringing, a deep dive into inspirational TedTalks, the teachings of mindfulness from Echart Tolle, and the power of our thoughts and the stories that we make up, to discover her new truth, her life purpose, and taking life by the drivers seat. This brought her amazing accomplishments, relationships and a new love in her life and now she is on a mission to guide her coaching and course clients. You work with Tiffany and access Tiffany's amazing courses on her website at www.fromdivorcetodestiny.com or directly at the following link https://pay.hotmart.com/R51682066F?off=3k7amj17

According to the ACE (Adverse Childhood Events) Study, 1/5 of Americans suffered sexual abuse at home, as children or until the age of 18. This is approximately 70 MILLION Americans. These numbers are not inconsequential. Sexual abuse is taboo, but sadly more common than we would like to admit. On this episode, my guest is on a mission to demystify this topic and share all the resources available to heal and thrive from it. I had the privilege to speak with the host of A Trauma Survivor Thriver's Podcast and the editor and chief of the Authentic Insider Magazine, Lorille Binstock, who shared with us her healing journey of how she recovered from suicidal addiation, a bipolar diagnosis by attending a holistic trauma recovery program that included treatment with EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Equestrian Psychotherapy, Neurofeedback, Breathwork amongst others and where she felt like she had experienced a life-changing experience and wishing that everyone had the knowledge and access to this treatment. She shared how trying a combination of IFS (Internal Family Systems) and MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy as she continues to heal encouraging the millions out there to try all the available healing modalities because they work and can too, live without these debilitating and life-threatening conditions and achieve a life of purpose with healing. We end the conversation with ideas on how we can help those who are grieving and be able to support them in their journey. You can find Barry and join The Memory Circle at www.thememorycircle.com, @thememorycircle, and The Memory Circle too on Club House as well.
I had a conversation with Rachael Frankford about how she integrates mindful awareness, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Infra Low Neurofeedback into her work with trauma survivors. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy helps people transform how trauma is held in the body using mindful awareness of somatic states. Neurofeedback supports and accelerates this work by training brain waves which increase the capacity for self-regulation by calming and stabilizing the nervous system. Neurofeedback is an innovative therapy that has been effective for healing attachment issues, developmental trauma, ADHD, post-concussion syndrome, burnout, and now post COVID symptoms. You can find Rachael Frankford at www.newpathwaystherapy.com and on Instagram at @newpathwaystherapy
I had an extremely interesting conversation with experienced psychotherapist and hypnotherapist Janet Philbin about hypnosis, what it is, its history, how it works to access the subconscious, how it works, and how she works to heal them. We discussed how it can help me specifically and how it has the potential to also access past lives as I am getting ready to try it for the first time. We discussed her amazing book "Show Up For Yourself, A Guide for Inner Awareness and Growth" and how it is not a how-to book but a "why now" book. You can find Janet at www.janetphilbin.com or @janet_philbin_lcsw.

We also learned about her online course "The Ultimate Divorce Kit", and gained great tips on how to we can "stay on our own lane" and be better parents for our children during and after divorce.
I had the pleasure of talking to experienced parent and parenting coach Sue DeCaro about conscious parenting, what it is, how it works, and how she advises us all to go deep and connect with ourselves and with our children. We talked about the importance of being aware of our upbringing and conditioning, as well as our childhood wounds to then listen to ourselves and arrive at how we want to show up for our children. Incredibly valuable episode.
In this episode, I share my own personal experience of the concepts and strategies that I learned about, and that shaped my parenting experience. This includes concepts like attachment parenting, conscious parenting, both psychologically and spiritually, the importance of emotional intelligence, reducing conflict at work and in your marriage, parenting by consequences, and more. I also share my struggles and what I am still healing and learning to improve. In my opinion, parenting is the hardest and most impactful (to our happiness and to society) out there, and therefore, the more we learn and heal, the better!
Healing is a journey, a journey that takes time and different modalities, and one of the oldest and most effective modalities to help you go deep and have a life-altering experience is Psychedelics. I had an interesting discussion with Natasja Pelgrom who has lead more than 500 psychedelic ceremonies in Amsterdam explain what psychedelics is, how it works and what it is and it is not good for and how crucial it is to experience it in a legal and experienced place like the Synthesis Retreat.
I had an eye-opening discussion with EMDR Certified Dana Carreta-Stein about the origins of childhood anxiety and issues and why it is important to heal the root causes from the perspective of what happened to them that is causing the issues versus only focusing on treating the symptoms. We discussed how she and her colleagues conduct EMDR therapy sessions on children while also keeping the parents at the forefront and arming them with the tools and skills necessary to support our children's healing progress.
I had an amazing discussion with a licensed marriage and family therapist and author of the book "Transcending High Conflict Divorce: How to Disengage with your Ex and Find your Power" where she shared her story of transcending from an "apocalyptic" divorce into an amicable one, discussed the roots and characteristics of a high conflict personality, gave us advice on all the things that we can do to manage and heal from it and discussed the importance of having spiritual values and a mission statement to gain your power and your life back!

This episode provides a wealth of information as to the use of different healing modalities, my own personal use of them all as well as a list of books and documentaries that my guest provides for those of you who are curious and want to learn more! This episode sponsored my Teresa Chapa, a wellness partner at Amare Global, a company that understands the gut-brain connection and provides a line of natural mental health wellness probiotics, prebiotics, and phytobiotics products to improve your vigor, happiness, stress resilience, mental performance, focus, and whole-body wellness. In this episode, I had an intriguing conversation with Sheri Denomme, a registered integrated holistic therapist that uses traditional counseling and holistic practices to help her clients heal. We discussed the miraculous experience that most people have when they experience Energy Healing in healing physical and emotional pain. We discussed what it is, how it works, what the 7 chakras are, and how they store specific information. She shared how she combines this with traditional counseling to help uncover core issues. We also discussed the energetic power that crystals have, that like energy healing, that can only be explained and believed when experienced. Healing is a journey, a journey that takes time and the use of different modalities that when combined, can take healing to the next level!
In this episode, I talk about my divorce story, why I wrote the book, and two of the many strategies that helped me!
