Chapter MarkingsIntroduction (00:00 - 0:11)The Number One Reason for Divorce (0:12 - 0:52)Love as a Choice (0:53 - 8:14)The Power of Choice in Relationships (8:15 - [End of Episode])SummaryIn this episode of the Break From the Grind podcast, Jason and Mindy explore the complexities of love and marriage, emphasizing that love is a conscious choice made daily. They discuss the importance of communication, the evolution of relationships over time, and the necessity of commitment in overcoming challenges. The conversation highlights that while initial feelings of infatuation may fade, a deeper, more mature love can grow through intentional actions and mutual effort.Linkshttps://www.breakfromthegrind.com/Visit our Stores: https://www.redbubble.com/people/bftg/shophttps://www.teepublic.com/stores/lowtreestudiosVideo https://rumble.com/c/c-6686850https://www.youtube.com/@breakfromthegrindhttps://www.youtube.com/@BFTG-Inspiration DetailsAccording to an article in women's health magazine, the number 2 reason that marriages end is due to falling out of love: The article states that “Nearly half of recently divorced respondents cited a lack of love or intimacy as the reason for their separation. Instead of one big betrayal, sometimes just growing apart and losing your romantic feelings can end a marriage. “There's this overarching feeling of distance that happens over time,” states clinical psychologist Elizabeth Cohen, PhD,I believe love is a choice and it is one that you make everyday. What are your thoughts about falling out of love? Why is love a choice?Love is a choice and a decision because your actions determine if it lives on or ends. You are in control of how you act in your relationships and how much you push past conflict and challenges. When you decide to work on communication, trust, intimacy, or emotional security, you're choosing love. What about hormones? If love is driven in part by biology, it may seem like something beyond your control that will continue indefinitely. But, while hormones can sweep you up in the early days of love, Elizabeth Earnshaw, a licensed marriage and family therapist from Philadelphia, explains that lasting love requires conscious decision-making.Hormones may continue making you feel sexually attracted to your partner, for example, but that's different than love.“As your relationship grows, your hormones will no longer be the driver of the feelings,” she says. “This means you need to be the driver of the feelings. You do this by actively choosing to be a loving partner.”
In this episode of the Manifestation and Money Podcast, Elizabeth shares her inspiring journey from weighing almost 300 pounds to becoming an integrative health practitioner. After undergoing a life-changing gallbladder surgery, Elizabeth realized the importance of focusing on internal health and wellness. Despite initially being confident in her body and supported by her husband, she knew change was necessary. Through therapy, visualization, and commitment to fitness, Elizabeth successfully lost over 115 pounds and maintained her transformation for 20 years. Now as a life coach and wellness practitioner, she emphasizes the importance of focusing on core wellness, providing support, and not comparing oneself to others. She also discusses her podcast, 'The Misfit One', and her FIT formula, encouraging listeners to take control of their health and live life intentionally. Elizabeth offers practical advice and promotes a holistic approach to health, advising people to seek support and focus on internal well-being. Elizabeth Cohen, Professor Emerita at York University, joins Jana Byars to talk about her new volume, Non-Elite Women's Networks Across the Early Modern World (Amsterdam University Press, 2023), edited with Marilee Couling. Non-elite or marginalized early modern women-among them the poor, migrants, members of religious or ethnic minorities, abused or abandoned wives, servants, and sex workers-have seldom left records of their experiences. Drawing on a variety of sources, including trial records, administrative paperwork, letters, pamphlets, hagiography, and picaresque literature, this volume explores how, as social agents, these doubly invisible women built and used networks and informal alliances to supplement the usual structures of family and community that often let them down. Ten essays, ranging widely in geography from the eastern Mediterranean to colonial Spanish America and in time from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, show how flexible, sometimes ad hoc relationships could provide crucial practical and emotional support for women who faced problems of livelihood, reputation, displacement, and violence. In the late 1990s, HIV and AIDS was killing people in Sub-Saharan Africa at an astonishing rate. Generations of children were growing up without parents and the workforce of civil society was hollowing out. Drugs effectively treating the disease were just becoming available, and the George W. Bush administration wanted to explore a way to bring treatment to Africa. Anthony Fauci was head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the time, and under near-secrecy, he was assigned to formulate a plan via several fact-finding trips to the continent. When the outline of the program came together, then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist rallied support in congress and led the passage of legislation for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR. In today's talk from Aspen Ideas: Health, Fauci and Frist meet on stage about two decades after the start of PEPFAR to tell the story of how it got started and reflect on where it's gone since. CNN medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen moderates the conversation. aspenideas.org

The public health emergency declaration for covid-19 ends May 11, ushering in major changes in how Americans can access and pay for the vaccines, treatments, and tests particular to the culprit coronavirus. But not everyone will experience the same changes, creating a confusing patchwork of coverage — not unlike health coverage for other diseases. If the FDA follows the recommendation, it would represent the first over-the-counter form of hormonal contraception. Elizabeth Cohen once thought she wanted to be a math teacher. Then she discovered psychology. And boy did she adore psychology. Like many of us at certain points in our lives, she was very clear that she was going to do this. But when she finished her psychology degree and decided to pursue an advanced degree, she was not accepted. So she gave up and completely changed directions. No, no, just kidding. She tried again. And in her case, the 2nd time was the charm. She reminds us: We can't blame outside issues for our inside problems Turn inward, and ask "what do I need?" Ask the other person: do you want me to listen or suggest? You HAVE to find something that lights you up Self care is monumentally important Every day you spend hating what you're doing, you're taking years off your life. Because we're practicing the same thing over and over, we're essentially training our brain to be UNHAPPY! In summary, you're not ever really stuck. The brick wall you're seeing isn't a room. It's just a wall - maybe in the middle of a beautiful field. Look around, over, under, and beside you. There's always something else to see. Time is everywhere, pervading each aspect of intellectual inquiry — from physics to philosophy to biology to psychology, and all the way up to politics. Considerations of time help govern a nation's self-conception, decide who gets to vote and enjoy other privileges, and put limits on the time spent in office. Not to mention the role of time as a precious commodity, one that is used up every time we stand in line or fill out a collection of forms. Elizabeth Cohen shines a light on the role of time in politics and citizenship, a topic that has been neglected by much political theorizing.Support Mindscape on Patreon.Elizabeth Cohen received her Ph.D. in political science from Yale University. This week I'm re-airing my episode with Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, where we discussed how to cope when your partner has an active addiction. Dr. Elizabeth Cohen helps people get a little more comfortable with something as painful as addiction and divorce. When you're living with or divorcing a partner who has an active addiction, you may find yourself acting out different behaviors including the need to control every situation. You may become (or already be!) codependent, and you focus on their healing instead of your own. When you finally take the focus off of them and towards yourself you can begin to see light at the end of what may be a very dark tunnel. Show Highlights When women share themselves openly and honestly, the world begins to split open (9:21) Focusing on your growth and healing is how we change our circumstances (11:06) Sublimating your own needs for someone else (23:00) Breaking the cycle of codependency (24:15) The core issue about a person abusing any substance is the difficulty sitting with emotions (34:41) A partner should never be responsible for healing the other (38:36) Some advice for those who are living with an active addict (47:33) Learn More About Dr. Cohen: Dr. Cohen is the CEO and founder of the online divorce course and membership Afterglow: The Light at the Other Side of Divorce. Why do we focus on the negative experiences in our lives, even when there is so much good happening? The answer: it's a biological design in our nervous system to keep us safe. If you think about it, it makes sense that it was evolutionarily advantageous to remember where pain was found, whereas remembering where you encountered joy was less essential for survival. Nowadays, we fortunately don't often have to worry about literal survival like our ancestors did, but we still carry threats to our survival ALL the time without even realizing it. As entrepreneurs, this has an enormous impact on our businesses! Of course, your mental health and emotional wellness play a huge role in your ability to get things done in your business and your life, while feeling joyful and on purpose. But one sneaky thing most of us don't realize is that we tend to overly identify with our businesses and think that we ARE our business, and that our safety comes from our business (newsflash: we aren't and it doesn't!). Learning how to feel safe in our bodies and heal from past experiences is ESSENTIAL. It's the root cause of what we need to get unstuck and start taking the steps to follow our dreams, and that's exactly what we're talking about today! My guest today is Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience specializing in the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders. Dr. Cohen has a particular expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has treated adults, adolescents and children with state-of-the-art CBT treatments. The underlying goal of Dr. Cohen's practice is for clients to achieve synchronicity with the person they truly want to be. Throughout her practice, Dr. Cohen has witnessed hundreds of clients break away from the fear, worry, and despair that had once defined them. She believes that it is a unique gift to be part of their journey towards a new, healthy and fulfilling definition of who they are. What you'll learn in this episode: Big T and Little T trauma and how it affects all of us (even if you don't think it does!)–including how trauma impacts our businesses How to optimize your gratitude practice How to better balance your nervous system, and what flight, fight, or freeze looks like in our business lives How the known, even when it's bad, keeps us safe from the unknown how healing the trauma IN our bodies (not our minds) can help us feel safe and take the steps we need to follow our dreams Practical solutions for healing trauma in the body Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week.
