Isiah McKimmie is a sexologist, sex therapist, relationship coach and Tantra Teacher. She's one of Australia’s most qualified Sex and Relationship Experts and is all about creating loving relationships, deep intimacy and whole-hearted sex. In addition to working with couples, she's passionate about empowering women to be confident in themselves (and their sexuality). She does this through practical tools, science-based advice and a rock-steady belief that you are not broken – you just need the right tools and advice to get where you want to be. She joins me today for a fascinating conversation around sexuality, discussing; How Isiah begins her day, every day. Isiah’s story, her path in becoming a sex therapist, and how she became the person she is today. Why there’s so much stigma around sexuality, particularly amongst women. The degree to which we tie up our self worth in our sex lives. We talk about what part a healthy (or unhealthy) sex life plays in our overall wellbeing. Where women can go to get our information when it comes to sex. We so often think that “we should just know” or “everyone else knows”, but Isiah outlines how that is just not true. We all have questions and Isiah discusses where we can go to get our actual sex education. How Isiah works with women to empower them when it comes to their sexuality. We talk about orgasms, and how women who find it more difficult to orgasm, to learn to orgasm for the first time or more consistently. How to deal with the stigma of sex and the fear of being thought of as “promiscuous” for women in particular. We talk about how to give ourselves permission that it’s ok to let go and enjoy yourself when it comes to sex, and not just thinking about the other person. Tantrix sex. What it’s all about, and how Isiah goes about teaching it to couples. Some of the most common themes Isiah hears when working with women. Three key things we can do to better tap into our sexuality. I’m really excited to have her on the show with me to discuss a topic I just can’t get enough of - brain health. Cassie delves into everything surrounding our brain’s health and how to maximise it. We cover: The breathing exercises Cassie does at the start of each day Cassie’s story and how she got to where she is today, and where she picked up her passion for brain health What we know (and don’t know) about brain health. How so much of the brain health literature is based on assumptions, and we are constantly learning new and interesting things every year. How the brain can change. Our brains are actually quite plastic and have a huge capacity to change over the course of our lives. What we can do to maximise our brain health. While there’s a lot we can do, Cassie focuses on three simple things that everyone can do to improve their brain health. The role of exercise in maintaining a healthy brain. How we can improve our memory by focusing on giving our brain what it needs to thrive. Assuming we’re doing all of the right things around diet, exercise, mental stimulation etc., what supplements can we take to improve brain health. The effect of diet on our brain, serotonin, and mental health. There is a lot of new research coming out explaining the link between your gut health and your mental health, which goes against a lot of our past assumptions. Dr Marcela Popa is a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician. After sixteen years in private practice, her autoimmune conditions forced her into early retirement. As a physician, she was compelled her to look for answers and began to analyze and research her suspicion that certain chemicals present in everyday products were worsening her symptoms Dr Popa draws from her 16 years as a physician and her own experience as a patient suffering from autoimmune arthritis, breast abnormalities, and migraine headaches to raise awareness of the harmful effects that common household product s and substances may have on our health. Through her experience, she figured out these generally recognized as safe (GRAS) substances are not necessarily safe, inert, or inactive and our chronic but constant exposure, even at low doses, can have an as yet unidentified or not fully accepted impact on our health. She joins me to talk about the most common substances are and how they make their way into our homes and on our bodies, how such substances and toxins are actually affecting us, What we can be doing to rid ourselves of them, what governments are (or aren't doing) to control exposure to such toxins and much more. My chat with Dr Popa challenges the notion generally recognised as “safe” products. Many of us don’t realize that common foods, medications, and ordinary household items that we use multiple times a day contain unhealthy ingredients, that even at low doses can cause detrimental health problems. Angela Jenkins is taking personalised health to a whole new level. Her approach goes far beyond the realms of following a diet or exercise routine. She uses 15 layers of science, based on our epigenomes – the complete set of all our genes to create uniquely bespoke programs that encompass everything from how much sleep you really need to function best at to what time of the day you should exercise. It’s called Epigenetics. Here’s a quick snapshot: If you think of your DNA as a constant, your epigenomes are fluid and change as we develop. These changes (be they developmental or environmental) affect our cells and how they function, both positively and negatively. By understanding how we can “express” certain genes – turn them on or off, we can create a healthier existence for ourselves, our children and even grandchildren. This field of science is only just beginning to be unearthed and is incredibly fascinating. With 18 years of international experience, Angela has a long list of clients with life-changing results. I was fortunate enough to speak to her and delve into the science and the incredible results she has not only seen in her own life but that of her clients, too.
Ivy and Adrian Soon are The Gut Flora Warriors. They founded The Good Seed Kefir which is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the community through a range of probiotic-rich beverages and icy poles. For Ivy and Adrian, discovering kefir was an outcome of enhancing their lives, they invest the same energy in developing their products for the community as for themselves. They took time out from the kefir production process to chat to me about how they got to making their own probiotic goodness, what’s involved in making kefir and why it’s so damn good for us, the difference between kombucha and kefir and just a few of the ways their range of treats (I call them treats because they’re actually delicious) has helped others heal their ailments. (Full disclosure, Ivy and Adrian sent me home with a bunch of delicious drinks and icy poles and I certainly saw the benefits.) I highly recommend to check out just where they’re stocked and get some kefir into you!
