Are you tired of returning from vacations feeling bloated and regretful due to unhealthy eating choices? The culprit might just be gluten. Whether you are gluten intolerant or not, consuming gluten can lead to inflammation in your body, leaving you feeling less than your best. But fear not, friend! In this episode, we explore how you can successfully maintain a gluten-free lifestyle while traveling, allowing you to indulge in your adventures without sacrificing your health. Let's dig in with my favorite tips (that have worked!) Researching Your Destination: Before embarking on your trip, it's crucial to conduct a little research. Start by familiarizing yourself with the language spoken in the country you are visiting. Knowing how to say "no gluten, please" in the local language can be immensely helpful when communicating with chefs and restaurant staff. Where You Are Staying: Additionally, consider the accommodations where you will be staying. Vacation rentals, such as Airbnb, often provide kitchen facilities, allowing you more control over your meals. Snacks and Supplementation: To ensure you have gluten-free options readily available, pack a variety of travel-friendly snacks. I typically pack two to three hard-boiled eggs that I'll peel ahead of time, and put in little baggies and they make excellent, easy snacks. Baby carrots, gluten-free crackers, and gluten-free pretzels can keep you satiated between meals. You can also consider packing meat sticks and Resist protein bars, which are not only delicious but also gluten-free and offer a nutritional boost. You'll get a special discount if you go to my store and grab them there. Supplementation can be beneficial while traveling. Digestive enzymes can help break down foods, aiding digestion when your body might be under stress due to a change in diet. Magnesium supplements can support healthy bowel movements and promote better sleep. Communicate ahead of time with your airline, reach out to local restaurants, and embrace the local cuisine! To wrap it up: By conducting some research, planning ahead, and communicating your dietary needs, you can enjoy your journey while nourishing your body. Remember, you deserve to prioritize your health, even when you're away from home. So pack those gluten-free snacks, embrace the local cuisine, and embark on your next adventure with confidence and vitality! Bon voyage! Speaking of travel… I've got some juicy retreats planned for you! - First retreat: September 8th and 9th in my home, Denver. - Second retreat: October 18th in the Dominican Republic with Dr. TJ. - Third retreat: February 28th, 2024, an intimate international women's retreat. Get all the details here. Highlights of this episode: How to maintain a gluten-free diet while traveling and the challenges and potential consequences of consuming gluten while on vacation Importance of research and planning when traveling to ensure access to gluten-free options. Practical tips for packing gluten-free snacks, including hard-boiled eggs, baby carrots, meat sticks, gluten-free crackers, pretzels, and nuts or seeds. Are you feeling confused about the differences between vegetarian, vegan, plant-based, and plant-forward diets? With so much noise surrounding nutrition on the internet, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Anna Tseng, a plant-based registered dietician with a master's degree in Public Health Nutrition and founder of Plant Nourished, is here to help clear things up. In our conversation, Anna empowers us with key skills, practical strategies, and tasty plant-based recipes, so we can enjoy a health-transforming, vibrant life without spending long hours in the kitchen. At the end of this conversation, I truly want you to be empowered to eat for your body type. Plant-based eating is centered on plant foods rather than meat, with whole plant-based foods being the focus. Plant-based diets are an umbrella term that covers different types of plant-centered diets, such as vegetarian, vegan, and whole-food plant-based diets. The whole food plant-based diet is focused on minimally processed or unprocessed whole plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and legumes. Plant-based eating is not an all-or-nothing approach. Anna describes it as a spectrum or continuum, where individuals can start at any point and gradually move towards the most healthful plant-based foods. We also discuss research findings on individuals with a predominantly plant-based diet. The statistics are mind-blowing and insightful. The numbers that Anna presented definitely got my attention! A lot of women in my community are perimenopausal and menopausal, so I had to ask Anna for her insight on food and menopausal symptoms. We both agree that changing the way we eat and our lifestyle may seem overwhelming, but by taking small steps we can improve our health and eliminate chronic diseases. There are so many studies and research findings that Anna shares with us in this conversation. Grab a notebook as you listen to this one! Highlights of this episode: We discuss practical tips for incorporating plant-based foods into your diet, particularly for those who may be hesitant or unfamiliar with plant-based eating. For those new to plant-based eating, Anna suggests starting with the first meal of the day and incorporating plant-based proteins and whole grains into meals gradually. Anna emphasizes that calcium can be obtained from various plant-based sources, such as green leafy vegetables, beans, tahini, and oranges, and suggests aiming to meet the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for calcium. Anna identifies as someone who eats a whole food, plant-based diet, citing health concerns in her extended family as a motivation for transitioning to this way of eating. Anna's expertise goes beyond just exploring new foods. She also helps her clients find clarity in their eating habits. Her Plant-Powered Life Transformation Course provides a step-by-step framework to help you build your skills and confidence in starting and sustaining a thriving plant-based lifestyle. ✨Go to michellefox.com/podcast for SHOW NOTES, TRANSCRIPT, and a link to this YOUTUBE episode.✨ Links mentioned in this episode: Anna Tseng Website Anna Tseng Instagram Anna's course: Plant-Powered Life Transformation Course Previous episodes on Menopause and Nutrition #31: Healing Menopause Through The Power of Nutrition, Part 1 #32: Healing Menopause Through The Power of Nutrition, Part 2 Connect with Michelle: Free meal planner: michellefox.com/planner Instagram: @michellefoxlove Facebook: @michellefoxlove Website: michellefox.com

If you're over 40, you're likely experiencing changes in your body that may be due to menopause. It's a cascade of hormones very similar to our teenage years. But menopause is not just about the cessation of menstruation (hello, Oxford Dictionary); it's a lot more than that. You might be experiencing hot flashes, night sweats, depression, anxiety, weight gain, and thinning hair. These symptoms can make you feel less sexy and confident, but that doesn't have to be the case. One of the culprits that exacerbate these symptoms is gluten. Gluten intolerance can affect your sleep, mood, and energy levels, making menopause even more challenging. That's why it's important to understand how gluten affects your body during menopause, and how you can manage its symptoms. By eliminating gluten from our diet, we can reduce inflammation, balance out hormones, and alleviate menopausal symptoms. 25 years ago, when I first eliminated gluten from my diet, I was amazed at how much better I felt. My energy levels improved, my mood stabilized, and my digestion improved. And as I continue to manage my menopausal symptoms, I've found that avoiding gluten is key to feeling my best. Of course, gluten is not the only culprit when it comes to menopausal symptoms. Other foods, such as sugar, caffeine, and alcohol, can also exacerbate symptoms. That's why it's important to take a holistic approach to managing menopause. If you are ready for more support, consider joining us for Healthy Sexy May. You are not meant to suffer!
