Is the kitchen your favorite room in the house? If not, I'm really hoping it will be after this episode. We're going to find out how to make friends with our kitchens and be at peace with food and eating. Heather Carey is a clinical nutritionist and culinary nutritionist and Heather joins me to talk about health and food, meal planning, and cooking healthy meals. I know I have struggled with meal planning and cooking at times, life gets busy, I don't want to, and all sorts of reasons appear. So Heather talks about that, about the frustrations and obstacles that come up when we try to do what we know is good for us.“Food is one of these very simple things that I think human beings complicate.” Heather says this to point out how we get caught up in numbers and diets and what we should and should not eat and the food confusion we end up drowning in. Right away she addresses the “good” and “bad” food labels we assign food. Food is neither good nor bad, it's mindfulness in eating that we need to take into account. Cooking, shopping, meal planning, and snacking all can be simplified if we approach food with mindfulness, self-compassion, and a focus on our health. I share some of my personal food stories with Heather and learn a lot. This conversation gave me so many great tips for approaching meals and eating and I love my kitchen even more after our talk. I think you'll love what Heather has to say as much as I do.About Heather Carey:Heather Carey is a clinical nutritionist and healthy foods cooking instructor (Culinary Nutritionist) who empowers women in midlife to make peace with their bodies, food, and eating.Learn more about Heather Carey:WebsiteInstagramFacebookLinkedIn—Learn more about Dr Michelle Tubman and Wayza Health:Thrive Beyond Size websiteWebsite: www.wayzahealth.comFollow me on Facebook and Instagram

Important Note: just because something is gluten-free does not mean it is good for you. In part one of our conversation, we talked about how gluten can affect women's health during menopause. You may no longer get your period, but as you and I know, menopause is so much more! Today, we are discussing alternatives to gluten that can help manage the symptoms of menopause. It is essential to note that just because a product is labeled gluten-free does not mean it is healthy. Some gluten-free products may contain high amounts of sugar, preservatives, and other additives that can harm the body. Therefore, it is crucial to read labels and choose gluten-free alternatives that are wholesome and nutritious. There's a great chance you're already eating wonderfully. I would just like to encourage you to get that gluten out. It is not serving any of us. As your health coach and your culinary nutritionist, I would absolutely love to have you as part of our community. Remember with the right support and self-care practices, you can navigate menopause with grace and ease. Highlights of this episode: Managing menopausal symptoms requires a holistic approach that includes diet, exercise, stress management, and other lifestyle changes. Avoiding gluten can be one of the dietary changes that can help manage menopausal symptoms. Choose gluten-free alternatives that are nutritious and wholesome. Remember to read labels! Privileged to have had the chance to get to know my Jason Sani over the last 6 months or so. He wears many hats including being a culinary nutritionist, trainer, and speaker, in addition to being a model and an overall great person. Through his own personal joinery and learning, he continues to share and inspire others to lead a balanced and healthy lifestyle. You’ll hear in this interview (and if you take the time to watch our Workouts) he’s passionate and has a vibrant desire to learn. You’ll hear his background and many good helpful tips that can help you identify or navigate from his experience. Here’s a great quote/perspective from Jason: “When you can get in tune with your body, you can wake it up and realize that you have been tolerating feeling “ok” for too long. You have the ability redefine what normal feels like. You have the ability to feel better in every way, all of the time” The idea behind the workout video is simple; I go and do his workout and be humbled, he comes and goes for a ride with me, and the same. In addition, we can share and appreciate each other’s hard work, ability, and capacity at what we spend our time doing. Sharing insight along the way about being optimal and high performance, what it takes to support and achieve it, as well as what can get off track. Last, we can help raise awareness of the capacity of endurance athletes that use the roads as a place to train to be their best. (The Cyclist, triathlete, runner, etc doesn’t need to be reminded that the roads should be safe - rather educating and whining other groups that ride past may help with appreciation for what we are doing.) Here is link to my Facebook post containing the workout videos: https://www.facebook.com/40607768/posts/10102879025606807?sfns=1 Follow Jason below, he regularly contributes and is imprint to so many. She recently authored the book “1000 Foods to Eat Before You Die,” which according to Mike fully delivers on the promise of its title. Selecting from the best cuisines around the world (French, Italian, Chinese, Senegalese, Lebanese, Mongolian, Peruvian, and many more)— Mimi profiles the tastes, ingredients, dishes, and restaurants that every reader should experience and dream about. The next guest, Stefanie Sacks, MS, CNS, CDN is a Culinary Nutritionist, author, radio show host, educator, speaker and consultant. She just released the new book “What The Fork Are You Eating? Lastly, Mike welcomes chef and restauranteur Charlie Palmer to the show. Charlie shares some great details how he came up through the culinary ranks in New York City at a time when French chefs ruled the scene. Mike gets an update with what’s on Charlie’s plate at the moment with his many hotels and restaurants throughout the country, plus other projects on the horizon. Tune in for a great show through and through! “‘1000 Foods to Eat Before You Die,’ is in a way my autobiography. The last 60 years of my life have been made up of going in search of food.” [11:40] —Mimi Sheraton on Food Talk “This book is really about solutions and trying to help people, in a nutshell. […] What I’m trying to do is distill a lot of that information into usable, navigable tools and give people things they can do at home. […] They have to understand that our food is not effectively regulated.” [32:05] —Stefanie Sacks on Food Talk
