It's almost a cliche at this point to talk about how polarized our society has become in the past decade. Many, it seems, would prefer that we remain bifurcated - especially those who profit and benefit from it.   Yet there is a growing number of individuals who've decided enough is enough with us vs them, unjust labeling and censorship of those who differ.   In this episode, I humbly offer my voice to this conversation because I truly believe that this level of polarization is leading us only towards our mutually assured destruction.   Here's what I discuss in this raw and vulnerable solo episode: Why it's important to me to add my voice and no longer buying into the false belief of hopelessness An exploration of my evangelical upbringing and how that contributed to my own us vs them mentality The human drive to default to "us vs them" and the role our nervous systems play in upholding this mindset The role of social media and how hyper-connected we are in furthering our disconnection and misunderstanding of the "other" Why it's imperative that we opt out of "us vs them" mentality and challenge ourselves to see people in their full humanity The spiritual implications of "us vs them" mentality How uniformity is not a prerequisite for making meaningful change Some specific practices I am implementing to support myself and others in opting out of "us vs them" mentality and returning to wholeness within ourselves, relationships and collectively   Link to the book I referenced: https://www.amazon.com/How-Have-Impossible-Conversations-Practical/dp/0738285323/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1642709486&sr=8-1

Julie + I are actually on FIRE in this episode talking about a Taylor Swift documentary, Ms. Americana, and the way it so beautifully articulates how good girl programming manifests itself. It almost feels like Julie + I let you in on our fiery private conversations where we explore nuances and our different ways of viewing a topic. Here's what we discuss: The need to be thought of as "good" being fuel for the compliant woman and living for praise Challenging circumstances in our life happening for us not to us My personal encounter with a Kanye-like man in the beginning of my career and how I internalized his opinion as truth Good girls being conditioned to take feedback at face value without running it through the lens of our own critical thinking Grounding ourselves in what matters beyond achievement What it feels like to be in a constant state of trying to earn our goodness How we devalue our work when it doesn't receive the praise we think it should/need it to in order to feel validated How we treat celebrities as products and our responsibility to be conscious viewers - ensuring we humanize the artists we idolize while knowing that we can opt out of the beauty standards they uphold Everyone having their own definition of goodness which makes it impossible for everyone to like you (aka kryptonite for a good girl) The spectrum of not good enough to "goody two shoes" Navigating situations where people don't like us or misrepresent us Our fear of forcing our opinions and making others uncomfortable with our views Self censoring vs choosing to remain silent from a place of integrity and making sure your words are your own Check out the Ms. Americana Documentary on Netflix! Here's what we cover in this episode: I share about my experience with insomnia over this past year and how I'm navigating it with more grace for myself Body image as the gateway into deeper connection to our feminine freedom How we often act out our good girl programming through our body image before any other area of our lives The drive to have men approve of our bodies Compliant woman/good girl programming depending solely on external feedback and validation The impact of our society's lack of initiation into different stages of our feminine journey How when a women transitions from her maiden to mother body, it's often seen as a failure The grief we may feel as our bodies change over time Dieting and ignoring hunger as a way we self silence Denying and delaying pleasure because we feel we have not earned it Pleasure as life force energy Objectification as a way we limit our humanity Self trust being at the root of the wounding that causes good girl/compliant woman programming To learn more about private body image coaching with me click here: http://www.hollytoronto.com/body-image-coaching.html If you got something from this conversation, head over to my IG and send me a DM https://www.instagram.com/holly.toronto/ Better yet, share this episode on social media or with a friend!

When we live in a world that teaches us our starting place is "un-worth," it's only natural that we'll feel an impulse to fill ourselves through traditional status symbols like wealth, career, relationships and material possessions. Yet often those pursuits leave us feeling empty, unfulfilled and like we're just not enough. This week I am joined by Cherie Burton, mom of 6, author, holistic psychologist, speaker, biz owner, Women Seeking Wholeness podcast host, and hobbyist divine feminine scholar.   Immediately after recording an episode for her podcast, we knew that our conversation wasn't complete so we decided to have her come on Return to Wholeness to explore more.   In this episode, we discuss: Cherie's experience facing an unplanned pregnancy as a single woman in the Orthodox Mormon Church Her challenging decision to put her baby up for adoption after the guidance of the disciplinary committee at her temple Breaking patterns of questioning worthiness and religious shame Prayer as an internal dialogue and using sensory tools to open the connection to our emotional body Her experience of finding the Divine Feminine and how that has contributed to her healing.   You can learn more about Cherie and her work here: www.cherieburton.com https://www.instagram.com/cherie.burton/?hl=en https://www.facebook.com/CherieBurtonPage   Explore the Feminine Freedom Coaching Experience Here: https://hollytorontocoaching.lpages.co/the-feminine-freedom-coaching-experience/   After you listen to the episode, head over to my Instagram and leave me a comment or send me a DM letting me know what landed for you: https://www.instagram.com/holly.toronto/

My girl, Jules, is back again for another powerful discussion on body image.   With summer arriving here in the northern hemisphere, it's likely that you're on the receiving end of some pretty toxic messaging around getting your "beach body."   In this episode, we share a different perspective than what you might be used to when it comes to this narrative.   We discuss...   Why wearing a bikini (or any specific item of clothing) is NOT the pinnacle of body acceptance Why it's not your bathing suit's job to grant you freedom, joy and presence when you're hanging out at the beach or at the pool...it's your's The power of choice when it comes to buying into harmful narratives about your body and putting life on hold until your body changes Powerful reframes and exercises you can implement NOW to help you feel more empowered and present when you're in a bathing suit this summer Why other people's opinions about your body are about them and not about you (and how your opinions of other people's bodies are also about you, not about them)   If you get something from this episode, head over to my Instagram and share with me what your takeaway was https://www.instagram.com/holly.toronto/

It's just us again, my loves!   I'm back for my first solo episode since the Episode #11: This Might Get Me Cancelled. I'm glad to say that the feedback on that episode has been so overwhelmingly positive and this makes me excited to continue to connect with you over dissident thoughts and unpopular opinions.   In today's episode, we're going to be talking about the "compliant woman" - the less infantilizing, more self responsibilizing (I love making up words) way that I am going to be referring to the "good girl" archetype going forward.   In this episode, I share: What exactly is the "compliant woman" and where I believe she originates from (sneak peek: I get a little controversial here, criticizing a manifestation of mainstream feminism) The 5 main patterns of the "compliant woman" that I have identified, while going deep into the most common pattern, self silencing Why self silencing is so common and how it stems from our discomfort with being disliked, disagreed with or labeled, while also being overly responsible for other people's feelings Why self-responsibility is KEY to feminine freedom and how no one else can speak your words but you Plus I share about a powerful workshop, Embody Your Feminine Freedom, that I am hosting on Wednesday June 16th at 7pm ET (link to sign up below)   Embody Your Feminine Freedom Workshop: https://hollytorontocoaching.lpages.co/embody-your-feminine-freedom-workshop/   After you finish this episode, head over to my IG and send me a message or write me a comment letting me know your thoughts on the episode: https://www.instagram.com/holly.toronto/
