The Pleasure Zone with Milica Jelenic - Diamond Host In this deeply transformative episode of The Pleasure Zone, host Milica Jelenic explores a groundbreaking approach to trauma recovery: healing through pleasure. While traditional therapeutic methods often bypass the body's innate capacity for joy, Milica sheds light on how safe, consensual pleasure is not only valid but essential for rewiring the nervous system and restoring a sense of safety, trust, and connection. Drawing on both science and embodied wisdom, Milica begins by unpacking how trauma dysregulates the nervous system, often leaving individuals stuck in cycles of fear, numbness, or hypervigilance. She explains how pleasure—when approached with mindfulness and consent—can create new neural pathways that foster calm, resilience, and emotional regulation. The conversation then moves into four key areas of focus: Understanding Somatic Healing: Milica breaks down how trauma is stored in the body and how somatic practices can gently guide individuals back into presence and sensation, offering a gateway to healing that honors the body's intelligence. Self-Pleasure as Therapy: Reframing self-pleasure as a sacred, therapeutic act, Milica discusses how it can support trauma survivors in reclaiming agency, rebuilding a loving relationship with their own bodies, and cultivating self-trust. The Role of Intimacy in Recovery: From conscious touch to heart-centered connection, Milica explores how intimacy with others can become a nurturing space for healing, provided there's clear communication and emotional safety. Rewiring the Brain Through Pleasure: Tying it all together, Milica explains how consistent, pleasurable experiences help reprogram the brain's response to stress, paving the way for long-term healing and empowered sensuality. Listeners of The Pleasure Zone and this episode, "Healing Through Pleasure" will leave with inspiration and practical insights for embracing pleasure as a powerful ally in their healing journey. What is pleasure? Have you ever noticed that what is pleasing to one body is not necessarily pleasing to all bodies? What if our bodies like to be pleasing and to gift pleasure to others and to receive pleasure? In this show we will explore the world of pleasure. If your body was sensing pleasure more often would your life have more ease? We start out with magical little bodies that turn on everybody. Babies are always having people come up to them and compliment them on their beauty and get really excited to be in their presence. What would the world be like if we stopped judging ourselves, our bodies and others? How much more fun, joy and pleasure is possible on this planet if we choose to be explorers? Whose ready for an adventure??? Milica Jelenic is an advocate for pleasure. In her private practice she invites clients to create life and lifestyle that offers more pleasure and vitality. Milica's intuitive ability to sense where change is possible and to question what is stuck in the target area creates a very dynamic session that promotes choice, possibility and change.   Milica has impacted the lives and health of individuals both in Canada and abroad with her humor, kindness, gentleness, potency and intensity. Send us a Text Message.Hello and welcome back to Beyond the Words. I'm your host, Dimple Thakrar, and today's episode is truly transformative. If you've ever experienced an out-of-body sensation or felt the weight of unprocessed trauma, this episode is especially for you. Together, we'll delve into the power of reconnecting with our bodies, processing deep-seated emotions, and finding healing through practices like yoga, breathwork, and mindful presence. I'm honoured to have you here with me on this journey.Episode Summary: In this episode, we explore the profound impact of trauma on our bodies and minds, particularly the ways in which we unconsciously disconnect to cope. Drawing from personal experiences, I share insights into how practices like Yin Yoga and mindful breathwork have helped me—and can help you—return to the body and process long-buried emotions. We discuss the importance of staying present in your body, the challenges of facing these emotions, and the incredible liberation that comes from processing them. This episode offers practical tools for reclaiming your body, regaining a sense of safety, and ultimately, experiencing a lighter, healthier, and more joyful life. Key Takeaways:Understanding Trauma Responses: Trauma isn't just about the event itself but how our bodies and minds react to it, often leading to a disconnect from our physical selves. The Power of Presence: Reconnecting with your body through practices like yoga, nature walks, and breathwork is essential for healing and processing stored emotions.Processing Emotions Safely: Allowing yourself to feel sadness, sorrow, or hurt without attaching a story to it helps in releasing these emotions and rewiring your nervous system.Yoga as a Healing Practice: Yin Yoga, in particular, offers a space to stay present in the body, making it possible to process emotions safely and gently. The Physical Impact of Emotional Release: Releasing trapped emotions can lead to physical benefits such as weight loss and reduced tension, promoting overall well-being.Creating a Safe Space: Building a sense of safety within your body through mindfulness and breathwork allows for a deeper connection with yourself, making you less vulnerable to external triggers.Call to Action: If today's discussion resonated with you, I would love to hear your thoughts and stories. Your feedback is what drives this show, and it's an honour to share this space with you. Don't forget to subscribe and share this episode with anyone who might benefit from it. Together, we can spread healing and connection. Thank you for being here, in your body, with me.Closing: Thank you for joining me today. Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast EP.195 - Reclaiming Body Trust w/Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC & Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD - Co-Founders of Center for Body Trust, Co-Authors Reclaim, embrace and accept your body in a more authentic, sustainable and nurturing way. Have you ever felt uncomfortable or not "at home" in your body? TRIGGER WARNING: Eating Disorders and Body Image is discussed in this podcast episode some people may find this triggering, if this causes any distress please contact Butterfly Foundation National Helpline for Free and Confidential Support on 1800 33 4673 available from 8am to Midnight 7 days a week (AEST) or in a crisis please contact your nearest hospital, emergency services, doctor or mental health professional.  In Reclaiming Body Trust co-authors and the founders of Center for Body Trust, licensed therapist Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC and registered dietician Dana Sturtevant, MS, RS invite listeners to break free from the status quo and reject a diet culture that has taken advantage and profited from trauma, stigma, and disembodiment, and fully reclaim and embrace our bodies. Informed by the personal body stories of the hundreds of people they have worked with, Reclaiming Body Trustdelineates an intersectional, social justice-orientated path to healing in three phases: The Rupture, The Reckoning, and The Reclamations. In Reclaiming Body Trust, Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC and Dana Sturtevant, MS, LPC shares insights into their innovative and revolutionary Body Trust framework so we can discover a more authentic and sustainable way to occupy and nurture our bodies. Before Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC and Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD envisioned the Center for Body Trust, they worked independently as a therapist and dietitian. As professionals in the fields of nutrition and mental health, they found most of the recommendations made to clients regarding weight were not only unsustainable but often resulted in harm to their well-being and sense of self. They were both disillusioned with the status quo approach to food, body, weight and health, which has been harmful for too long. In 2005, both Hilary and Dana joined forces to re-envision what it meant to occupy and care for your body - and the Center for Body Trust was born. Dana Sturtevant co-founder of Center for Body Trust is a nutrition therapist, educator, speaker, writer and activist, who advocates for food and body sovereignty. For More than 15 years, Dana has helped people let go of chronic patterns of dieting and disordered eating and move into a more authentic, sustainable way to occupy and nurture their bodies. Hilary Kinavey co-founder of Center for Body Trust is a licensed professional counselor, facilitator, educator, and coach. For more than 20 years Hilary has worked with people to reckon with the vicious cycles of disordered eating and dieting, body shame and weight bias, and the fragmentation, oppression and trauma that often sits at the center. Today they work to examine the toxic structure in which our construct of health lies, and discover what is possible when people are trusted with their bodies. Body Trust is scientifically grounded and greatly informed by social justice movements, liberators frameworks, and embodiment theory. Yvette Le Blowitz Podcast Host talks with Hilary Kinavey and Dana Sturtevant co-Author's of  Reclaiming Body Trust to find out how you can Reclaim Your Body, Your Voice, Your Story, and Your Self. For many women--and men, too, restoring a feeling of safety to enjoy sexual intimacy seems a long way off. Anna-Thea share invaluable insights for regaining that sense of safety. Trust, too, can be a big issue. In fact, letting a new person into your life at all can cause concern. That's natural. You are wise to take care of yourself. Today's insights in this episode can help so much! You want to attract a healthier partner this time, I know. It's SO important that you feel safe to establish sexual intimacy, and that means establishing emotional intimacy first! Sure, sex can be exciting just for it's own sake. It's not usually a good way to begin a relationship, though, if you're hoping for a long0term relationship. Yes, I know, there is often a feeling of pressure to be intimate in many early relationships. Resist the urge to have sex until you actually feel emotionally safe with someone! Does that seem do-able and/or wise? Today, Anna-Thea and I talk about why we have to redefine love in order to see healthier pathways to create and experience it. You can have great sex with someone and never be able to talk about your feelings, for instance. Is that a good thing for you? Not likely if you're hoping to have a healthy relationship with a partner in life! HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY'S EPISODE:Why we have to redefine loveWhat makes the Feminine special and SacredHow attracting a healthy person requires being healthy yourselfWhy your body is not a "negotiation"Where the meeting place between safety and vulnerability is Do you need help to make the shift to consider a new relationship after leaving an emotionally abusive one? Pretty amazing right? Brenda's journey through cancer and recovery is a really powerful testament to what our bodies are capable of and why exercise and movement is NEVER one size fits all. We start off talking about Brenda's "bionic" leg and then dive into how and why this experience brought her to aerial yoga and pole fitness. Oh and how Brenda walked a half marathon in between 2 of her cancer surgeries. We talk about what it feels like to not fit in with what mainstream fitness and yoga expect of us and how to find the right support and community where you can show up as yourself. Brenda is the poster woman of breaking ALL the exercise rules and I'm so inspired by her persistence, courage and determination to reclaim and reconnect with her body after cancer. As soon as I could walk and talk, I was moving and imagining. Over time, my childhood dress up and living room shows evolved into theatre summer camps, school plays, and eventually a career in live events and film production. In the last decade, I've developed my craft at The School at Steppenwolf, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, University of Colorado College of Arts and Media, Denver School of the Arts, and the Denver Center of Performing Arts. In 2012, I began my aerial journey. While living in Los Angeles I had the great pleasure of training, teaching, and performing at The Choreography House under the instruction of Kelly Yvonne. More recently, I began training and teaching low-dance trapeze at Aerial Works Castle Rock under the guidance of Rebekah Leach. I'm also thrilled to be apart of #teamtease- teaching pole and creative movement at Tease Studio Denver. In addition to my work in creative movement, (pre-CoVid) I worked professionally as an associate producer and breakout room producer for corporate events and conventions. I have also worked on a variety of independent film projects in the last decade, including several music videos and web series. My weekends are spent camping, hiking, dressing up, and dancing in my living room. www.greyceskinner.com @Greyce.Skinner

Hey beautiful lady, This is episode four with Hollie Azzopardi. When I first imagined this podcast – this is the kind of conversation I imagined having. Hollie is relatable, funny, soulful, and just downright joyous to be with and in our conversation, we explore so many topics and ideas that feel relevant and needed for us as women. Conversations that acknowledge shame, invite in curiosity and excitement, and celebrate our uniqueness as really bloody fabulous women. I am recording this intro days after our conversation, and I have to tell you the energy of Hollie and her words have lingered on into my week in the most nourishing way. Little snippets, comments and synchronicities we shared have been lighting me up – and honestly have been inviting me further and further into a fuller expression of myself and I feel like I won't be alone in this once you too, get to experience Hollie's energy and stories. Opening up a conversation about Body Image has always been important to me – however, I haven't shared as openly as you will hear in this episode – I hope it feels as healing for you to hear our stories as it has been for me in sharing them with you. Hollie Azzopardi is a leading Australian Mind, Body & Soul mentor, body love advocate and model, speaker and writer. Co-host of The Middle Podcast, and published in Cosmopolitan, OK Magazine and Mamamia, her sold out workshops, online programmes and speaking events incorporate a refreshing “no bullshit”  approach to living in alignment, following your intuition and pursuing what lights you up. Episode 7 is about reclaiming your body. Reclaiming your body is for all those who have left certain parts of themselves behind because of trauma associated with physical abuse, verbal abuse, bullying, or any other situation that left you feeling unsafe and unfit for your body. This episode is a starting point to help you create that spark again within yourself, to walk comfortably again in your skin. Remember, it is a process to begin loving yourself again, it takes time, and with willingness and compassion you will understand how much you have deeply missed that connection. This episode starts out with a guided movement practice. This practice is foundational and seems silly, but it is a very important part of the process to help you feel into your body again...how your body moves, what feels good, what doesn't feel good and how you want to express yourself moving forward. Have fun with it, that is what it is for. You are now in control. Finally, this episode also touches on the patterns and beliefs surrounding the body. It helps you understand how important this disconnection was in the past, how your body is begging for your connection in the present, and how it can be disruptive for future growth and development. This is for everyone. period. Each and every one of us have been called names or made to feel less than for being our unique self. We didn't come to earth to suffer and take on the identity of someone else. You are meant to prosper by simply being you. May you develop a strong relationship with your body and express your unique gifts and passions to the world. Much Love, Robbie

Many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust the wise messages our bodies give us. The result is that when trauma strikes, a time when we need every aspect of our beings to master the challenge, we may find ourselves disconnected from our greatest strengths. Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, who has spent thirty years studying the gifts of the body and teaching thousands how to reclaim them, began to recognize this strength, which she likens to a GPS, when she herself experienced a life-threatening trauma. Here she walks readers through different areas of the body, revealing the wisdom they hold and how to reconnect with that wisdom. As she shows in this warm, compassionate book, the body’s abilities are always available; we must simply reconnect with them.

Suzanne joined me for an excellent conversation on her latest book Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom, in which she provides the tools and guidance necessary to reconnect with our body’s inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. “While the English language frequently refers to what our bodies know — 'gut feelings,' hearts 'reaching out' to others, etc. — many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust our body’s inherent wisdom. Even worse, a lot of people don’t like their bodies very much at all. As a result, we often cut ourselves off from one of our greatest allies." Thomas offers a simple guided meditation for unsticking awareness from the head and healing this classical body-mind split.

Suzanne Scurlock-Durana Traumatic experiences are a part of any life—from the emotional shock of someone’s careless words in childhood to intense physical injuries to life-threatening emergencies to assaults. Unresolved trauma becomes lodged in our body, blocking the ability of its communication system to share its wisdom. So we flounder when making decisions, remain in less-than-ideal or unsafe situations, and/or end up living a life that truly isn’t ours—while our body is madly signaling us with the solutions we seek.Suzanne Scurlock-Durana has spent thirty years studying the gifts of the body and teaching thousands how to reclaim them, giving us ways to reconnect with our body’s inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. “Your body is designed to guide you, keep you safe, and bring you full vitality and pleasure. It is the vehicle through which you create and manifest your thoughts and dreams into reality,” writes Suzanne. She shares how to reclaim lost parts of ourselves, tap into our body’s wisdom, and better navigate our lives. Learn more about Suzanne Scurlock-Durana: healingfromthecore.com

Not only do these events take a toll on our psyches, in Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom (New World Library, June 14, 2017), author Suzanne Scurlock-Durana explains how they they cut us off from the wisdom of our bodies as well. “The body has its own language that is older and more primal than most of us realize,” writes Suzanne. “Most of us are conditioned at a very young age to turn off this inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. Our priceless body wisdom is getting lost as our culture speeds up and becomes more technology driven. Compounding this issue is the fact that life’s traumas also cut us off from our body’s wisdom.” Reclaiming Your Body empowers readers to reconnect with their body’s inherent guidance system. The book explains how unresolved trauma becomes lodged in our bodies, blocking the ability of its communication system to share its wisdom and strategies. This can cause us to flounder when making decisions, remain in unsafe or less-than-ideal situations, and/or end up living a life that truly isn’t ours — while the whole time our body is madly signaling us with the answers and solutions we seek.

While the English language frequently refers to what our bodies know, such as “gut feelings” or our hearts “reaching out” to others, many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust our body’s inherent wisdom. In this inspiring conversation, Kim Corbin talks with author Suzanne Scurlock-Durana about how stress and trauma can cut us off from our body’s guidance system. Suzanne also provides practical tools and guidance for connecting with key wisdom areas of the body like the heart, gut, and pelvis, so we can use them to better navigate our lives.

Aired Wednesday, 2 August 2017, 8:00 PM ET Suzanne Scurlock-Durana - Reclaiming Your Body As sad as it may seem, we in the west live in a world of pain. At every family gathering, workplace or social event, we hear conversations about pain, physical therapy, surgery and drugs. A 2016 study by the American Society of Addiction Medicine said that of the 20.5 million Americans that had a substance use disorder in 2015, 2 million had a substance use disorder involving prescription pain relievers. What is the source of this pain? Is there a way we can learn to reconnect with our bodies, listen to the message that the pain is sending and in doing so heal our bodies and whole selves naturally? My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, has spent thirty years studying the gifts of the body and teaching thousands how to reclaim them, provides the tools and guidance necessary to reconnect with our body’s inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. Her Healing from the Core curriculum combined with CranioSacral therapy and other bodywork modalities creates a complete, body-centered guide to awareness, healing, and joy. She teaches around the world and lives in Reston, Virginia. She joins us this week to discuss her new book, Reclaiming Your Body.

At least half of us have experienced trauma, more commonly known as abuse, bullying or PTSD. We often avoid using the word trauma by labeling abusers as controlling, manipulative, angry or cold. Somehow these terms make the abusers actions acceptable. They are not. Whether abuse is emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or financial, it causes deep wounds. The most harmful wounds are emotional. When the trauma is occurring, most people are not able to process what's happening. They're just trying to survive. The emotions have to go somewhere so they go deep into the body where they may hide for years causing physical, mental and emotional problems. The person disconnects from their body in order to not feel the pain. We all do this to some extent, like when someone says something cruel to us. To heal, we must reconnect with our bodies, which takes time and patience. Please join us Thursday to learn how you can reclaim your body, access its wisdom and heal from trauma.

This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Suzanne Scurlock-Durana author of Reclaiming Your Body: Healing From Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom About the book: A guided tour through the body’s innate healing powers Many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust the wise messages our bodies give us. About the author: Suzanne Scurlock-Durana’s Healing from the Core curriculum, combined with CranioSacral therapy and other bodywork modalities, creates a complete, body-centered guide to awareness, healing, and joy. She is also the author of Full Body Presence. She teaches around the world and lives in Reston, Virginia.

Suzanne Scurlock-Durana is the author of Reclaiming Your Body and Full Body Presence. She is one of the world’s leading authorities on conscious awareness and its transformational impact on the healing process. Her Healing from the Core curriculum combined with CranioSacral therapy and other bodywork modalities creates a complete, body-centered guide to awareness, healing, and joy. Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge, has this to say about Suzanne’s book: “A master teacher and healer, Suzanne Scurlock-Durana draws on her decades of work facilitating profound transformation in people suffering from a range of physical and emotional dis-ease. The result is a brilliant and compelling guide to the deepest freedom — living from awake, vibrant, loving presence.” Reclaiming Your Body empowers readers to reconnect with their body’s inherent guidance system. The book explains how unresolved trauma becomes lodged in our bodies, blocking the ability of its communication system to share its wisdom and strategies.  This can cause us to flounder when making decisions, remain in less-than-ideal or unsafe situations, and/or end up living a life that truly isn’t ours — while the whole time our body is madly signaling us with the answers and solutions we seek. Suzanne, who has spent thirty years studying the gifts of the body and teaching thousands how to reclaim them, sets the stage for experiencing full body presence by offering ways to experience direct sensation, since developing this skill is necessary to be able to hear the body’s messages.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast?
