http://www.sherylkline.com/blogIn the latest Fearless Female Leadership interview, I had the true pleasure of speaking with Sara Connell, bestselling author, TEDx speaker, coach, and Founder of Thought Leader Academy, about the transformative journey from corporate leader to thought leader. Sara's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and the power of claiming your voice — and using it to create meaningful, lasting impact.Sara's career began in the corporate world at a top advertising agency, where she quickly realized that while the training was invaluable, the culture was toxic. It took a mental and physical health crisis for Sara to finally make the leap out of corporate life — a leap inspired by a chance encounter with a life-changing book she discovered in an airport bookstore. That single book inspired her to commit to writing the stories and messages she wished had existed for her, and ultimately to empower other leaders to do the same.Throughout our conversation, Sara spoke candidly about the mindset shifts required to leave a traditional corporate path and build a thriving thought leadership business. She emphasized the importance of creating a clear “flag in the ground” — your core message or movement — and then choosing one meaningful platform to start sharing it, whether that's a book, a talk, or a podcast.Sara also shared her wisdom on managing imposter syndrome, embracing discomfort, and remembering that legacy-level impact rarely comes from comfort zones.Key takeaways from the interview:0:01:10 – Sara's career pivot from corporate advertising was born out of both desperation and inspiration, sparked by a book she discovered during a personal crisis.0:03:52 – The toxic myth that “if you leave, you'll fail” keeps many leaders stuck — Sara debunks this through her own story.0:06:24 – Mindset is 100% of the game; it either keeps you in the game or takes you out.0:08:16 – Every thought leader faces self-doubt and imposter syndrome — even icons like Maya Angelou and Elizabeth Gilbert.0:10:44 – Act “as if” when your confidence wavers. Pretend to believe in yourself until your actions prove you right.0:12:14 – Start by identifying your “flag in the ground” — your signature message, idea, or movement you want to be known for.0:14:57 – Choose one thought leadership platform to begin with — speaking, writing, podcasting — based on what lights you up.0:18:26 – Find the intersection of your corporate expertise, your untapped passions, and the audience you most want to serve.0:20:33 – Great marketing starts with listening; have real conversations with your ideal audience to learn what they need.0:23:45 – Often our greatest superpowers feel invisible to us — fresh eyes and mentors can help uncover your unique brilliance. If you're interested in being featured on the Fearless Female Leadership podcast, or you're a leader looking to gain clarity on ‘what's next', how to build more cohesive and high-performing teams, and lead with greater confidence and influence, let's have a confidential conversation.Cheering you on always!– Sheryl

Book marketing is essential for personal branding and business growth, requiring an early start, creative pre-sale efforts, and strategic use of various marketing channels including websites, social media, podcasts, and traditional PR. In this microsode of "The Business of You", Rachel Gogos and Christy St. John delve into the intricacies of book marketing and personal branding. They discuss how writing a book can amplify one's personal brand, showcase expertise, and attract clientele. When marketing your book, it's important to start early and utilize creative pre-sale efforts like giveaways to generate buzz. Rachel and Christy explore the decision between traditional publishing and self-publishing, highlighting the necessity of audience size for traditional publishers and the learning curve associated with self-publishing. They also outline essential elements for a book landing page, including opt-ins, author bios, testimonials, and engaging content. Monitoring book marketing success extends beyond sales to metrics like website traffic and social media analytics, allowing for strategic adjustments. Books have a transformative power marketing shares that transformative experience. Quotes “Writing a book is a great way to enhance your personal brand, to put your thought leadership out there.” “A book becomes a calling card, and it is especially a great way to land more speaking engagements and get more clients.” “Nothing screams expert quite like a book.” “People don't start early enough in their marketing efforts.” “From the marketing standpoint, you want to start early, and you want to offer even pre-sale opportunities for potential buyers. It's a great way to build buzz around your book. It's also a great way to sell multiple copies of your book.” “Traditional publishers are going to look to see that you already have a sizable audience on your social platforms. Whether you have a website or don't have a website, the way you appear online is very important to a traditional publisher.” “Amazon has a great self publishing platform. It's called Kindle direct publishing. And in fact, that's what I used for my first book, “Build your personal brand, the distinctive guide to soul based marketing". It was really an eye opening process to both write the book, but also to self publish it. So I would recommend that anybody creating a new book going the self publishing route the first time, especially if you don't have a large following, because you just learn so much in the process of writing your own book and self publishing it. And it will just make you a lot more savvy when you're trying to sell your book to a publisher down the line.” Links Trena White, Page Two Publishing episode: https://thebrandid.com/podcast/episode-55-you-are-the-author-of-your-business-story-with-trena-white/ Sara Connell, Book Marketing episode: https://thebrandid.com/podcast/125-how-to-become-a-thought-leader-with-sara-connell Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) - Self Publishing on Amazon: https://kdp.amazon.com Author Eleni Gage's Website: https://elenigage.com/
If there's a formula for becoming an industry leader, Sara Connell has cracked it. From struggling to make $20,000/year to six figures and now a multi-million dollar company, she's sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her strategy–and how you can replicate her success. Sara is a bestselling author and founder of Thought Leader Academy, where she helps coaches, writers, and entrepreneurs become published authors and in-demand speakers. She's been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, The View, FOX Chicago, NPR, and Katie Couric. Sara's writing has appeared in The New York Times, Forbes, and Good Housekeeping. She's the author of five books and has been nominated for a national book award and ELLE magazine Book of the Year. The 5-Part Strategy for Thought Leadership Sara's 5-part strategy for thought leadership begins with writing a book. Being a published author is an instant credibility boost, regardless of your industry. After the book is written, then it's time to craft a signature talk. Sara helps many of her clients become TEDx speakers and monetize their speaking for additional income. The next step is community building–growing an engaged audience around your book and speaking topic. That's followed by the transformation phase, or as Sara calls it, “monetizing the mission.” In this stage, she helps her clients increase their prices and transition from one-on-one client work to a one-to-many model. The last and most important part of the strategy is leadership. Sara offers mindset support to help her clients embody their identity as a leader. The 3S Framework To create compelling thought leadership content, Sara recommends using the 3S Framework: Story: Your origin story and the reason why you're doing this work. Situation: A statistic, study, or fact that demonstrates the current situation. This should include stakes (or what will happen if the situation doesn't change). Solution: How you're going to solve the problem. Enjoy this episode with founder and bestselling author Sara Connell… Quotes “I prioritize mindset and faith above everything. To me, if I have to choose between strategy and the mindset work, that's where it all happens. That's where all the magic happens because that's the identity–when we step into the greater version of ourselves.” “Everyday I woke up and said, ‘What does the 7-figure CEO do?'” “It's about leading a movement. The book is a piece and a portal to your movement, to attract clients, to open doors for speaking engagements and the media…but ultimately you're leading a movement.” “So many people want to do a book to tell their story and they'll write a great book, but it doesn't give them the book outcomes they want. So we start with the outcomes…and reverse engineer the outcome.” “Instead of informational content, we coach people on how to create transformational content.” “The average American adult has an attention span of 2.9 seconds. So if our content doesn't magnetize someone within 2.9 seconds, they're moving on.” Links mentioned in this episode: Visit Sara's website: https://www.saraconnell.com/ Connect with Sara Connell on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saraconnellauthor/ Send a DM on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saraconnell/ Bestselling Book Bootcamp: https://www.saraconnell.com/bestselling-book-intensive

Welcome to the show! Today you are in for quite a treat as I've got something totally different for you. In today's episode I'm doing some live coaching with Rosalyn Rourke on her audio book. Audio book sales are a huge part of the overall revenue when it comes to selling book but having a voice that makes people want to listen is critical. The number of times I've heard from people that they could not listen to the audiobook of a book they longed to hear but they just couldn't because of the reader's voice. When I coach someone in putting a book on audio it is the same methodology, Psychology of the Voice. If a reader performs, or has no inflection people won't be able to connect or listen. If a reader is over or under done, the audience won't be able to stay with them. There are a million nuances I find in a voice but especially in doing work like I'm doing today with Rosalyn. It's easy to get caught up in the normal day-to-day things in life that can keep you from achieving the goals you have set for yourself, but now is the time to break away from them! It's time to take back the reins from excuses and take control of your destiny. Today's guest is Sara Connell, the Founder Thought Leader Academy at Sara Connell Coaching, and the author of Bringing in Finn: An Extraordinary Surrogacy Story. Sara joins the host Molly McGrath to share some of her most important tips to help you make a big jump as a leader! Takeaways: As a leader, it's your job not to get “seduced by the excuse”. You need to be the example for your team and set the proper tone so instead of giving up on goals that you have set for yourself, you want to have the attitude of “I can, and I will”. Research from Harvard suggests that you have an 80% likelihood of completing a goal just from writing it down. So if you are stuck on trying to achieve a goal, start by simply writing it down. When it comes to making a big leap in your personal or business life, it all stems from feeling empowered. Once you feel empowered to ask for a raise or to focus on the health of your team, you are more likely to chase after that goal. It's important to make sure that your team is healthy and functioning to the best of their abilities. If they are fully healthy and happy, they will work harder and feel more committed to achieving a goal. Action is the antidote to fear. It's normal to be afraid of bigger conversations but if you want to get over that fear, then take the time to actually have the conversation instead of just overthinking it and playing it over and over in your head. Take the time to sit down and write out three tangible contributions that you made to your team, organization or clients. This will show you the hard work that you have done and the important things that you have managed to accomplish. If you have demonstrated the contributions that you have made, and show up with confidence, then it will be hard for a boss or client to say no to what you are asking. Writing a book doesn't have to be an overwhelming process. Sara Connell, the founder of Thought Leader Academy, walks us through the process she uses to help entrepreneurs and thought leaders write their books. A book saved Sara's life seventeen years ago. She was in an abusive job and spiraling into a health crisis when she randomly picked up the book at the airport. Her life changed because of that book, and that's when she realized that she needed to pay it forward. Sara started down a path to figuring out the fun and easy process for writing a profitable and impactful book. She looked back at her writing process to see where she got stuck and has built the antidote into the writing process she uses in the Thought Leaders Academy. Sara says that book sales are like icing on the cake. The book-writing process brings you closer to why you do what you do. It helps clarify your mission and reconnect you to it. It also distinguishes you as a thought leader. You don't need to have a story about overcoming tragedy or adversity to write a book. People will buy books that help them solve problems. They don't pay for information, but they will pay for the organization of information in a clearly outlined process. Everybody has a story. Are you ready to write yours? What You Will Learn in this Episode How to turn your podcast into a book How writing a book can help you leverage your time What to expect during the book writing process A basic structure to get you started How your book can generate multiple revenue pathways Why writing a book will help you clarify your mission Links and Resources Hiring & Empowering Solutions on Facebook www.hiringandempowering.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/molly-hall Connect with Sara Connell https://www.facebook.com/saraconnellauthorspeakercoach/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/saraconnellauthor/ https://www.instagram.com/saraconnell https://twitter.com/saracconnell https://www.saraconnell.com https://www.saraconnell.com/thought-leader-academy

A book can save a life. That's the premise of Sara Connell's work as a writer and coach. She helps other writers who dream of changing the world. This Genius Podcast episode is a conversation between Sara and me, host Diane Wilson, that touches on many topics related to writing, Brain Dance, personal vision, the pandemic, neuroplasticity, and the demons that keep you from fulfilling your true purpose. It's filled with insights and tools for life, getting past unthinkable trauma, symptoms of PTSD, how neurofeedback can also save a life, daily routines of peak performers, and doing what you are truly meant to do. After getting a supportive response to my medical memoir at the Harvard Medical School Workshop on Writing and Publishing for Health Care Professionals in 2019, I knew I'd need some serious support to help polish the draft and get Brain Dance to a publisher. At the same time, Sara Connell started the Thought Leader Academy to support writers. That all felt like a huge dream. but I was motivated and signed on. Sara and her team have helped me develop the next steps and move my project along to its launch which is coming up on May 11. If you'd like to attend our Brain Dance Book launch event register here for free. Grateful for Sara's help and inspiration. Also, if you want to be my guest and attend her upcoming virtual writer's retreat on May 12-14 for free, just send me a note and I'll send more details. diane.g.wilson@gmail.com Enjoy! She is also a fellow contributor to the anthology by Megan McCann, Soul Success. Fun nugget #2: Your mess is your message, and trust in the benevolence of the universe to turn traumatic experiences into transformational experiences (for yourself and others). Fun nugget #3: Books can save lives. Fun nugget #4: There are optimal brain states for creativity (and it is not high-beta!). Fun nugget #5: When it comes to media appearances, aim high (even if you just declare it in your own living room). Fun nugget #6: Align your entire team with your mission.
