Faith – the Ultimate Power in Network Marketing In his book, Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill states that ‘When FAITH is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, as in the case of prayer”. So, what is FAITH? Faith is a state of mind which may be induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind, through the principle of autosuggestion. What is the subconscious mind? The subconscious is the part of our minds that makes decisions without our needing to actively think about them. It's different from the conscious mind, which encompasses the thoughts we know we are having at any given moment. What is autosuggestion? Auto-suggestion is synonymous with self-suggestion. It's the bridge between the conscious and the subconscious mind. Merely reading words aloud will have no impact. You have to attach emotion to the words. When reciting your affirmations, you must encourage your desire to consume you. Your subconscious will only act upon thoughts that are felt. What does it mean in Network Marketing? It is the fact that you have your DESIRE, in which you BELIEVE, and then you put that desire into your affirmation(s), and you have the FAITH in your heart that this GOAL(s) you are going to realise it! So, writing down, in AS MUCH DETAILS AS POSSIBLE, your GOALS in Network Marketing is ESSENTIAL to develop FAITH in you and your capacities to realise your dreams and goals. So, FAITH is the Visualisation of and Belief in Attainment of DESIRE (GOALS) Faith is a state of mind that you must learn to cultivate. Through repeating affirmations and instructions, a state of faith is created in the subconscious thanks to the process of auto-suggestion. Any impulse of thought that is continuously repeated and entered into the subconscious mind eventually becomes a continuous loop of thought. However, this can also have negative consequences. In addition to positive thought patterns, we can also enforce negative ones that can result in us believing that we are unworthy, doomed, or a failure. Hill, therefore, argues that it's our beliefs alone that determine the nature of our subconscious. By repeating affirmations, you can reprogram your mind to visualize and, thus, to feel and believe that your success is guaranteed. So, in Network Marketing, to succeed, DETERMINE what you WANT to ACHIEVE! Write it down Break it down into DOABLE parts Take each part, and write down what you NEED to learn, what skills you need to develop, what ACTIONS you need to do in order to complete that part. Look for EVERYTHING you will need to in order to complete that task – education, HELP from a Mentor or Coach, training, seminars, networking…. Once you have developed and line up the different steps of the different tasks, you are on your way to success IF you now DO the actions and keep going! Being CONSISTENT in your progress in KEY to your arrival. So, again: DETERMINE what you want to achieve What are the STEPS towards your GOAL (s) Break those steps in small doable tasks Look for HELP – mentors, coaches, training, networking Start with one STEP at a time, MASTER it and then take the second STEP, and keep going Keep doing the different steps UNTIL you have mastered all, and KEEP going! BE CONSISTENT Measure your progress and analyse the metrics – are you well on your way Correct any derailing from your GOAL – REMAIN FOCUSED! Keep measuring and keep progressing Look at what works and do MORE of it Look at what does not work, and find/develop alternatives HAVE FAITH…. I can help you to put your desire to work. Today we are talking about the 4th Benefit of the 4 benefits of Being Consistent which is to Be Prepared for Any Outcome. Being consistent in your behavior enables you to be prepared for any outcome. Since your attitude is not going to change regardless of whether the plan works out or not, you don't need to make a plan B. Keeping a clear head is important, so that there is no confusion or doubt at all. By being consistent, you will know exactly what you have to do instead of trying to conjure a plan to follow from thin air. There is no doubt that being consistent in your actions is difficult. Things don't always go to plan and as an entrepreneur you are expected to be flexible. However, once you decide to do so, there is no turning back. The doubts would start creeping in and you would start being apprehensive about every decision you make. It is not the ideal state of mind for a successful person to be in. Over the past 4 days we have explored 4 benefits of being consistent. These 4 benefits are virtues of being consistent. Beyond anything else, being consistent at least shows that you are an honest person. Honesty counts for a lot in the world. Your employees and clients will be impressed, and you will be able to take your business to the next level. Today we are talking about the 3rd Benefit of Being Consistent which is Consistency Breeds Persistence. If you want to be successful, you have to learn to be persistent. Some people don't have it in them to keep moving forwards after experiencing failure. A small loss is all it takes to deflate their spirit and cause them to break down. This is not the attitude you should have if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. Being consistent in your behavior can go a long way towards making you persistent. Failure or triumph, you will keep pressing forwards. Tune in tomorrow for benefit #4 of being consistent. Today we are talking about the 2nd Benefit of Being Consistent which is to Develop a Code of Values. The biggest advantage of being consistent in your behavior is that you can develop a core code of values and ethics you can follow. Rather than changing your stance depending on the situation, you should be clear in your mind about what needs to be done next. Entrepreneurs often try to think on their feet and in the spur of the moment, make a decision which they later come to regret. This is not the case when they have a code of values to follow. Tune in tomorrow for benefit #3 of being consistent. If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short rating and review. “Over time, the shift became ‘I was doing it more not because I wanted to be accountable, not because I wanted to check it off my to-do list, but because I knew that I would feel better if I did it.' I wasn't doing the workout for you, I wasn't doing it because I was paying for it or because I made time for it, I was doing it because I wanted to because I knew I feel better, and it'd be better for my health in the end.” - Dr. Jaimi Heidman Welcome to The Fit Vegan Podcast, I'm your host, Luckie Sigouin! It's hard to believe that this is the one-hundredth episode of this podcast. I've certainly learned a lot while making them. In fact, as someone whose been producing content for ten years, I have a lot of lessons I could share. So for this episode, I want to tell you about some important concepts to help you in your success. Being Consistent and Comfortable With Content First, you need to understand the importance of being consistent. If you want to have a successful online business, you have to commit to some form of content creation. Lately, for me, that's been podcasting. Whatever it is for you, be consistent with your offerings so that clients can rely on you. You may feel nervous when you put new content out there. I certainly do. However, I've learned that this is just fine. It takes a certain degree of discomfort to move forward. This will help build confidence so that you can silence both your inner and outer critics. I put out a lot of free content. This is important to me because I feel that everyone should have access to my content. Sure, free content is a marketing strategy. However, it can also make a huge difference for people who can't afford paid offerings. Being Prepared and Scheduled for Success Spending some time preparing your material in advance leads to better content. Set some time aside for planning. If you value what you put out there, being prepared is the best way to ensure its quality. For me, I find keeping a schedule is the key to making this all happen. If I don't block out time to create, it just won't happen. To consistently create content, treat it like a regular appointment in your calendar. Keep It Simple Silly Just because you're creating content on a regular basis, doesn't mean it has to be new each time. Coming up with novel content every time will exhaust you. There's value in repetition. Just present it in different formats. This reinforces your messages and makes them more accessible to your audience. The better you know your audience, the easier it will be to create content. Get specific on who you serve and you'll better understand their challenges, interests, and goals. As your audience grows, it's crucial to set up boundaries. You don't have to share everything. People don't need to know everything about you for you to be able to help them. So decide what is worth sharing and what's better left unsaid. With all this being said, it's always best to keep things as simple as possible. Take complex topics and communicate them in simple ways. That's what your audience is looking for. That's what will help everyone the most. Which one of these lessons resonates with you? Barbara Carlyle jokes about being consistent in season two of "Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready" only on Netflix.
Being Consistent is a Challenge One of the most common challenges I hear about from my clients and those in my Facebook Group, is not being able to be consistent. But what I've learned is that being consistent is a catch-all phrase. Maybe even an excuse for not digging into the underlying issues for not showing up in your business. Being consistent as a business owner means creating content that consistently aligns with your values, passions, goals, and the level of service you provide. Consistency also applies to showing up and being truly present in your business for your audience. Consistent is one of the 5 C's I often reference when talking about building a personal brand. It is truly important for building relationships and the know love and trust factor. What usually happens when people aren't consistent is that there are underlying issues like fear, doubt, etc. The Factors That Influence Being Consistent Let's take a look at some of the factors that influence your ability to be consistent that you may not be thinking about when you say that being consistent is a challenge. I think that once you realize the reasons you aren't being consistent, you'll be able to create a plan that works for you and helps you show up consistently for your audience. Fear Causes People to Be Inconsistent Let's look at fear as something that is holding you back from being consistent. I believe fear is one of the biggest reasons people aren't consistent. Fear holds you back from not only posting content but creating content. You may not even realize that you are afraid. Subconsciously your mind is referring back to something that intimidated you, something someone said to you in the past, or you are simply afraid of judgment. If you feel like you are struggling to be consistent, do a fear check. In what areas are you lacking consistency? Is it in your messaging? Or is it with content creation? Is it posting the content and being present for your audience? Are you afraid of being in front of the camera to post images of you as the face of your brand, or do you have complete stage fright when it comes to creating videos? Where is fear holding you back from being consistent? Once you recognize where the hang-up is, it's time to do mindset work. Ask yourself, is the fear legitimate? Chances are, no it isn't. If you've identified that creating content is where you lack consistency, ask yourself why you are struggling to create? Are you afraid of being judged? Perhaps you are afraid of someone questioning you? Does imposter syndrome or doubt in your level of expertise have you stuck in a pattern of procrastination? Maybe you haven't seen results from social media yet? Is your mind telling you that it's not worth your time? Are you simply worried about what others might say about you? Let's dive into these a little more deeply. Doubt As a Cause for Not Being Consistent Perhaps you have doubt that you are an expert in your niche? Maybe that doubt is stemming from seeing others in your space who have more followers and likes than you have. Here's the deal. You believed in yourself enough to start your business, so I believe that deep down you know you are an expert! It's OK to consume content created by other experts in your area of expertise, but it isn't OK to consume the content and let it influence your thoughts about yourself. Maybe the other people have been on social media longer. Or maybe they have been an entrepreneur longer. No matter, they have an ideal audience that is most likely different than your ideal audience. And now you're thinking, but their demographics are the same and the same people that follow them are following me? My response to that, so what! A big fat so what! Why? Because certain people will resonate with their content and them as a personal brand. But others will resonate with you. This is why we create a personal brand, to differentiate ourselves so that others can figure out if they like us and want to work with us. You can refer back to episode 111 for more on building a personal brand. I'm not for everyone, and you aren't for everyone. I hate to break that to you, but it's true. There are certain people our unique gifts and personality will resonate with and there are others that if they hired us, we would be so frustrated and we'd want to pull our hair out. So don't let what someone else is doing or what their numbers reflect influence the content you create and share, or how consistently you show up for your audience. Your ideal audience is waiting for you and if you don't show up, they might give up, on you, but most importantly on themselves because help didn't arrive. Clarity Helps with Being Consistent A lack of clarity can also hold you back. Are you feeling uncertain about your niche, zone of genius, or your ideal client? If you are uncertain about any of these you will be confused and that will cause a lack of confidence, fear, and doubt. As a result, you'll be in a state of procrastination. Something we know is true is that our thoughts create our results. So, if doubt, fear, or a lack of clarity are holding you back, you must do the mindset work to change the negative thoughts. In Episode 94 I shared strategies for overcoming procrastination. I will never say it is easy, but there are things that you can do to overcome it and move the needle forward on your business. One such thing is really focusing on your why, why you started this business, why you want to serve others, why you can serve others. Look at your values, visions, and passions and identify your niche or zone of genius. Map out the details of who your ideal audience is, what their major problem is that you can solve for them, and how you can help them. Doing these exercises will give you a deeper level of clarity. It may take time, but I assure you it will be worth every minute, and you'll end up with a plethora of content in the process. Does Being Consistent Really Matter? Yes, it absolutely does. But you must be aligned with your values in order to accomplish consistency and for it to matter. If your intentions aren't coming from a place of service, rethink the reason you are on social media or creating content, to begin with. Likewise, if you are copying the efforts of someone else in your area of expertise, don't bother. Why, because if you aren't being your authentic self, your content won't resonate with your ideal audience. Your ideal audience will see through inauthenticity really quickly. Similarly, if you aren't posting what comes naturally to you, you will attract non-ideal clients. Both you and the client will become frustrated, and you won't build trust. In other words, why bother being consistent if you aren't being present in a way that aligns with your values, your abilities, and the people you want to connect with. Remember that social media and your website are platforms to use for sharing value for free. Yes, they are marketing platforms, but they are meant to be used for the purpose of building relationships, warming up your audience, and building the trust factor. Creating content consistently, with consistent messages, and being present consistently, will help do all three. Imposter Syndrome Holds You Back From Being Consistent If you haven't listened to Episode 66, go back and listen to it. The entire episode is about imposter syndrome, how it can hold you back, and how you can overcome it. The problem with imposter syndrome is exactly that, that it can and will hold you back. It will hold you back from being consistent, and from showing up as the expert you are. Any time you are creating content, create it first, then go on your platforms to consume. This will help ensure that you aren't being influenced by what others are doing and posting. It will help you stay focused on creating genuine content that gives value to your audience. If you consume first, you may be tempted to use an idea already used by someone else in your space. Similarly, you might feel intimidated that someone else came up with an idea and you didn't and therefore you aren't good enough…imposter syndrome. When you create with your core values and your experiences in mind, you can and will show up consistently and be able to create content that resonates with your audience. Your story is unique to you. Your journey to gain the expertise you have is specific to you and your audience wants to hear about it. No one else can serve the people that God has called you to serve. Stop comparing yourself to others and focus on the fact that you have unique gifts that are meant to serve the people who resonate with you and need your unique abilities and your unique personality traits. Your Audience is Watching You I assure you that the content you create is being consumed. People like to lay in the weeds so to speak. They don't want others to know they were scrolling through Instagram, so they don't take time to like or comment. Likes and follower counts don't matter. Don't let either stop you from creating content consistently. Something you can tell yourself around this mindset block is that there are at least 10 ideal clients watching me right now. They are consuming my content, and one day soon, the content will resonate with them fully and they will reach out to me. You can also remind yourself that your content holds value for your audience. Repeat after me, my content is helping others. My content is providing value that my audience needs. These are just a couple of affirmations that you can write and/or say every day. The more you believe in the content you are creating and the value it provides for your audience, the less procrastination you will have and therefore, the more consistent you will become. Life Happens and Prevents Consistency The reality is that life happens around us, for us, and to us every day. It's impossible to be consistent all of the time unless we have a strategy in place to do so. That strategy has to include content creation and mindset. Let's Talk About Mindset I suggested a few affirmations. These are going to be critical for staying positive and believing in the power of your content. But you also have to do the work around the fact that you are an expert in your niche or your zone of genius. If you have doubts about your expertise, journal around your experiences that brought you to believe you were an expert in the first place. You have past work experience, you have certain personality traits, you have the tools and resources needed, etc. Think about your ideal audience as who you were a few years back. They are exactly where you were and lack the wisdom that you have to offer them. Your thoughts around this will influence how others perceive you as an expert and your ability to show up consistently for them. So do the mindset work. It's critical for success. Strategy Is Important When Trying to Be Consistent Having a strategy in place for creating content will help limit excuses and improve consistency. It helps to create content buckets. For example, one of my coaching clients is an esthetician. We recently created her content buckets and a strategy to get her back on track for posting more consistently. The content buckets we created are corrective skincare, preventive skincare, skincare maintenance, services, and products. Because she is working full time and her esthetician business is a side-gig she is growing into full-time entrepreneurship, she only has so much time for content creation. The strategy we came up with is to create six posts at a time, for three posts per week, to have two weeks of content. She is then going to schedule her posts through Facebook Business Suite. It's free and easy to use and she can post to both Facebook and Instagram where her ideal audience hangs out. Once the posts are scheduled, she can focus on other aspects of her business for the remainder of the two weeks and simply engage as she has time. Posting three times a week may not seem like enough for some people, but if your goal is ultimately to be consistent, you have to do what works for you. If you overextend yourself, you will get frustrated and burnt out and will fall back into inconsistency. Taking Action is Key For Success Mindset and strategy are great, but if you don't take action, the mindset work and strategy won't be effective. Be consistent with the mindset work as daily reminders and affirmations are key for long-term success. Keep your content strategy simple so that you don't get overwhelmed and can take consistent action. The equation that has helped many entrepreneurs reach success is this: Mindset + Strategy + Action = Results Struggling to be consistent? How can you stay more consistent on social media, spend less time on planning content but still get some great and better results? We all know that marketing and lead generations is an important aspect of our business, and if you can plan your social media activities, you can consistently and effectively create quality content, save time, and engage more with your audience. In this episode of Trust Podcast, Zoe Cairns shares some of the strategic key steps to make sure that you stay organized and effective on your social media content planning. Being Consistent on Social Media Block Out Time 2:28 This is the first step to planning your content. Make sure you're consistent on social media. Block out some time in your diary that you're going to sit down and think about those content ideas that you're going to plan, research and create that content for the month ahead. Think about those key points that you really want to put out and those focus areas that you really want to focus on. 3:00 The first step is putting it in the diary, and setting that time aside. Now the biggest thing is once you've set it in the diary, you've got a stick to it. If we don't stick to it, and we get distracted, something else comes up. You really need to be strict with yourself. You need to make sure there's no distractions that is going to take you away from that booking in your diary. You really do need to make sure that you stick to that time, and you allocate it to that planning of your social media activities. Know Your Audience 4:27 If you know your audience well, it makes it so much easier when it comes to creating the content that's going to get the engagement and also get the results that you're looking for. 5:16 When we're talking about knowing your audience, we use a couple of tools to really analyze what and who our audience are and what other pages that they might be communicating on or engage in on. There's a tool called Facebook Audience Insights. 5:55 Facebook Audience Insights is a tool that sits on the back end of Facebook, it's on our ads manager, and it gives us all the demographics and interests of everyone on Facebook. 6:47 With Facebook Audience Insights, you can save that audience and use it for future ads. 7:39 It's so important to know your audience because if you don't know your audience, it's then that you can't actually then start to look into what are their pains and challenges. Researching the Pain and Challenges and What Types of Content You Can Be Delivering to Your Audience 9:45 These ideas can be key points, that you can really repurpose multiple bits of content to post out across social media. It's going to really save you time. 10:25 Think about what are those pains and challenges and what key posts can you create around it. If you create a blog post, or take out key points from that blog post and create an Instagram story, create a Facebook Live, create a podcast from it, and create a video for YouTube, create a quote post, and some great ideas there. Planning is a Key 11:39 To start to plan that content, put it out into a content planner. 11:52 Having a plan is important, it's actually going to save you time each day to do you know some more important things in set. Creating 12:16 Creating of content is making sure that you've put your brand across with the right tone of voice, colors, the right fonts, and the right templates. 12:37 Canva is a great tool that can really start helping you create some amazing looking images, and content posts for your social media. 12:54 Get the time to create and put your ideas into content that your audience is going to love and engage with. Engage Each Day 13:14 Engage in each day is really important when it comes down to the algorithms of some of the social media platforms. 13:26 Facebook, and Instagram, and LinkedIn and Twitter have algorithms that sit behind where you when you post and they determine how much reach organically your posts will get. 14:11 What also comes down to the algorithms is how much you're engaging with your community. Engagement is a really important part of your social media activities. 14:55 Engagement can be from commenting to people that have commented on your post first, it could be going to engage with your target audience, it could be engaging on different hashtags of where your target audience might be hanging out, it could be looking at similar people that do similar things to you and finding out what other profiles they're engaging on, and engaging with key people, and getting involved in discussions within groups. 16:11 The platforms will see that if you're not engaging, and that you're just broadcasting various scheduling tool, you will see a decrease in your reach and the number of people seeing your posts. It's important that you're going in there on a daily or every other day to go and engage with your audience and really build those conversations. Key Quotes: [00:37-00:41] “An hour of planning can save you 10 hours of doing.” [13:57-14:10] “The more quality posts you put out there, the more engagement you will get and the more results driven to your call to action, the more people that will see your post organically, and the more the algorithms will love you.” [14:32- 14:50] “The time that you would have spent on thinking about what you were going to post each day, you can go and spend on engaging and networking with key people in the social media platforms and building key conversations and relationships with people that can then convert from conversations into customers.” Learn more about Zoe at https://zoecairns.com/ Visit ZC Social Media and Academy: https://zcsocialmedia.com/ https://www.zcsocialmediaacademy.com/

Grow an Online Business - A weekly step by step story of an online business startup as it happens.
This week was tough. Staying motivated is difficult unless you have a mentor to help you through the tough times. They keep you pointed in the right direction. As for progress this week, virtually none. Which is why I needed the additional motivation to keep going. But I was reminded that consistency is the key to success by my mentor. So I dove in and wrote an article defining and exploring being consistent. Read it here: The 5 Benefits of Being Consistent. A lot of people think being an entrepreneur is great because we can work with any client we want and we can work any hours we like. Well, this is partly true. I am sure you understand what I mean. For me, I actually work longer hours than I ever did when I worked for someone else and the money take home is often not much better when I first started. I think you might be the same. After all, you’re looking for freedom, money and independence but now you just feel stuck. I’ve been there. In some days, I just wanted to give up. I don’t want this for you, so today I’m going to show you how business systems can help you in your business.Remember, you have to work ON your business, not IN your business. You can do this by automating, delegating, and systemising to gain leverage that is the key to creating and scaling your business. Especially when you’re just starting out, you want to start off on the right foot. The biggest tip I can give you is to have your end goal in mind. What do you want to achieve at the end? Then you’d need a marketing system. Why some service providers get a constant flow of leads and prospects coming in, but some don’t? Being CONSISTENT is key. I can’t stress this enough. They bring in new leads, follow up, nurtures their leads and turn them into raving fans. Many service providers, on the other hand, are doing things randomly. They switch from one social platform to another, throw up an ad here and there. For example, if you are a blogger and used to blog, stick with it. Don’t try to jump on the podcast all of a sudden. Remember, it takes time to build your brand and grow your audience. If you ask me what is the first ‘system’ you need in your business? I would say build your email list first. I am talking about quality, not quantity. Building an engaging email list is way more important than building a huge list but the subscribers aren’t active at all. So have you got an engaging email list? Do you have a decent size of email list? Have you been thinking to grow your email list this year? Probably this is one of the items on your to-do list. Don’t wait any longer. Come up with an irresistible lead magnet to attract your target audience, so they will jump on and join your email list. Start building your email list today. If you have any questions regarding how to build your email list, drop me an email and I will respond to you. Or, if you are looking for done for you service, you can find my contact information on my website makemarketingyours.com.

The Art of Selling Yourself, Collaborating and Becoming an Author of Influence with Brian K Wright and Ursula Mentjes “Successful Entrepreneurs Have Mastered the Art of Being Consistent.” — Ursula Mentjes (05:30-05:38) In this episode, Brian K Wright joins Ursula Mentjes on Double Your Sales Now podcast to talk about the art of selling yourself, collaborating, and becoming an author of influence. Brian K Wright is the host of Success Profiles Radio and publisher of Success Profiles Magazine. Over the last seven years, Brian has interviewed world-class achievers such as Darren Hardy, Jack Canfield, Loral Langemeier, Kevin Harrington, Sharon Lechter, Chris Powell, Dan Lok, and many more. With the lessons he has learned from these achievers, and through his own experience, he seeks to educate, motivate, and inspire others to become a higher version of themselves. He is the author of three books, including the recently released "Success Profiles: Conversations With High Achievers." Part One of ‘The Art of Selling Yourself, Collaborating and Becoming an Author of Influence’ When it comes to becoming an influencer in the space, you need to build relationships, and that involves collaborating effectively. There are so many ways to play together, like highlighting someone in your newsletter. Many people don't understand that collaboration is happening around the world. It's one thing to attend events because you're interested in connecting with the speakers. It's another thing to participate in events and do business with the CEO's right after. Open your eyes to the possibilities to serve others. Continuously evaluate how you can maximize value. You want to set both parties up for a prosperous, long-term collaboration. And, this is where many businesses fall short. Collaborating is simply a way of thinking about your current relationships in a different way and looking to the outside to form new connections to drive significant results. “If you have an event coming up, that’s a great way to collaborate with someone.” — Brian K Wright (16:59-17:37) Imagine expanding your customer base just by making one meaningful connection. You can become a person of influence when you have the right offer and know how to sell yourself. And, by attending events, you can build an instant human connection quicker than you could over the phone or online. Part Two of ‘The Art of Selling Yourself, Collaborating and Becoming an Author of Influence’ If you've been through something, chances are someone else has been through that too. Or might be going through it now. And if you're wondering, should I write my book or create this video? The longer you put off writing your book or creating something, the longer that someone who needs you doesn't get to experience what you offer. "Successful and wealthy people are those who are always creating something." — Brian K Wright (24:03-24:11) Successful entrepreneurs understand that challenges are lessons and opportunities to connect more with others. Sharing those stories opens up the floodgates to other opportunities. So, go out there and sell yourself, collaborate, and become an author of influence. The possibilities are endless. How to Get Involved Brian K Wright is hosting a virtual summit on January 29-30 called Authorpreneur Live. This event will help people write, market, and leverage their books to create more opportunities in their businesses. The Accountability Minute:Business Acceleration|Productivity
The 4th Benefit of Being Consistent is: Be Prepared for Any Outcome. Benefits of Being Consistent (Consistency Breeds Persistence) The 3rd Benefit of Being Consistent is: Consistency Breeds Persistence. Tune in tomorrow when we will talk about the 4th benefit of being consistent. The Benefits of Being Consistent are endless really. We could think about just about anything and connect being consistent with results. If you want to do well with exercise and nutrition, consistency is a must. If you want to do well in business you can’t exactly work once in awhile, or generate sales every couple weeks to be successful. When you look at meal planning or nutrition 98% of people that fall off their nutrition track, do so because they weren’t consistent with meal planning their week in advance. If you’re not dropping those inches or feeling better about yourself through exercise, there’s a very good chance it has everything to do with how consistent you are at getting your workouts in. Tune into this show to learn more about the Benefits of Being Consistent!

The 2nd Benefit of Being Consistent is: Develop a Code of Values. The biggest advantage of being consistent in your behavior is that you can develop a core code of values and ethics you can follow. Rather than changing your stance depending on the situation, you should be clear in your mind about what needs to be done next. Entrepreneurs often try to think on their feet and in the spur of the moment make a decision which they later come to regret. This is not the case when they have a code of values to follow. Tune in tomorrow when we will talk about the 3rd benefit of being consistent. If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short review. I would really appreciate it. Episode Overview This episode features Bernie Borges, Chief Marketing Officer at Vengreso. Vengreso's focus is on helping organizations with their digital sales transformation. Bernie has been on this focus for longer than most and comes to the table as a top-class marketer who continues to be very relevant for sales. He carried a bag in his personal sales career for ten years, and then switched over to the marketing side – so he's walked many miles in both shoes and is gifted in bringing both together to influence revenue growth. We will be talking about Content for Sales, and how to take advantage of and leverage content in your sales cycles. He will be answering the what, the when and the how of introducing content to your buyers to influence their engagement with you. What is Going on in the World of Sales? We are living in an age where the buyers go through the buying journey anywhere from 50% to 80% on their own. They're conducting research online and talking to their peers. And we know there's data that shows that 94% of b2b buyers consume between five and eight pieces of content from the vendor that they ultimately select. What is Content for Sales? If you are in sales, you don't want to be solely dependent on content that's coming just from your marketing department to influence the prospects you are talking to. You want to have some influence too. You want content that you can share with your buyers. Content for Sales is content that enables salespeople to influence in a positive, constructive and useful way – helping their buyers by sharing content with them - proactively. The goal is to share content that is useful, relevant and helpful to them. You are providing resources to them so that those buyers want to have a conversation with you. What are Pitfalls with Content for Sales? The biggest trap sellers find themselves in is “random acts of content.” A lot of companies have a sales enablement function. This function exists so that the salespeople can focus on contacting and building relationships with prospects and can avoid the heavy lift of identifying the content that they need. The trap sellers find themselves falling into is working hard to find the content they need. And unfortunately, because it is hard work, it takes some effort and kudos to some salespeople who do it. A lot of other salespeople don't, and they really should be enabled by the marketing department with the right content. Thinking about Your LinkedIn Profile 62% of decision makers review a sales persons LinkedIn profile and look for evidence that that salesperson can be helpful to them. You want to avoid having a profile that brags about how you make quota and go to President clubs, and how you're a great contract negotiator - because that's not what your buyer wants to read. You want to have the kind of a profile that communicates your credibility, authority, and expertise within your industry. You don't have to be a 30-year salesperson by any means. You just need to communicate that you understand and know the challenges in the industry and the pain points of your buyer, and how you help your buyer. You want to avoid the pitfall of being someone that the buyer visits online and goes “Nope” and moves on. You want to be a thumbs up person – the person they want to engage with. One thing that has not changed since the beginning of time is that sales is about relationships. It's just so easy for the buyer to be invisible and not respond, and it's harder than ever to make those connections to build a relationship. Being Consistent and Having a Cadence For digital selling, you have to have a cadence. And a cadence means that you are doing things consistently and it's pre-determined. That doesn't mean every Tuesday at 9:30 am. It just means that daily, you've got a preset, predetermined set of activities that you're doing so that you are consistent. So that's another pitfall to avoid if you just say, yeah, I'm going to do this, and you think about it once a week, or every other week, and you just kind of, like parachute in and, and send someone a piece of content that again, is that random act of content. You're going to get limited results. You've got to have a cadence. If it sounds like this takes some work and some effort – it does. 94% of buyers are going to consume five to eight pieces of content from the vendor they ultimately select. Are you going to have the habit and cadence of engaging with your buyers with content that you know that they need to help them on their journey? We don't have a sales process anymore - the sales process is dead. It's the buyer's journey, and we have to engage the buyer on their journey and influence them by being a resource to them. We're not selling to them; we are helping them on their journey. Hopefully, at the end of their journey, they're doing business with you because you rose to the top in being helpful to them. Content Relevant for Multiple Buyers Let's say you're a b2b sales professional, and you sell a major system. There are ten people on the buying committee. Let's say it's a $300,000 average contract value, and it's a six to twelve-month sales cycle. Your solution has multiple aspects of information about it. So along the way, you need to be feeding content to the different people on the buying committee that's relevant to their role. For example, there's going to be some roles at the executive level, and content for them is all around total cost of ownership, return on investment, the value to the customer experience, etc. Then there's going to be people in the buying committee whose jobs are on the line to implement your solution. They need to understand what's it take to implement. They want to know what's involved, who's involved and what are the resources that are needed? They want to know what are the risks, what's the upside and other details. The point is you need to understand the different personas that are involved in the buying journey, and what their interests are. Types of Content for Sales Content types for sales are no different than all other content types - whether it's a case study, blog article, third-party research data, etc. As long as the content type matches and aligns with the persona and the journey, that's the most important thing to that individual - addressing the question that that potential buyer is probably trying to ask at that point in time. The Role of Marketing in Content for Sales Sellers can influence their marketing people on how to take an action toward content for sales. Marketing needs to understand 94% of buyers are going to are going to consume the five pieces of content from the winning vendor that they select. Marketers need to ensure enough content exists to feed those prospective buyers and enable sales people to be influential in the delivery of that content. Sales should be thinking about collaborating with marketing. It's an age-old topic - marketing and sales collaboration. But we're now in the age of digital and account-based marketing. We have more potential for alignment because the lines have blurred between sales and marketing. The modern marketer who is truly aligned with the sales team and the head of sales says to the head of sales, “your number is my number, and I want to work with you on the path to that number.” The marketer then needs to support the sellers with great messaging and content they can use in their one-to-one conversations. Summary Takeaways Here are a few summary takeaways for this episode: The modern B2B buyer is spending a good deal of time surfing and being influenced outside of direct selling conversations with the vendor. They also consume 5-8 pieces of content from the vendor they ultimately select. So, the net of it is the modern buyer is seeking content, and the onus is on you to make sure they get relevant content to influence their decision and ultimately buy from you! You can appreciate Bernie's advice and warning - to stay away from “random acts of content.” We also talked about cleaning up and sharpening your LinkedIn profile and recrafting your profile from a customer point of view. This means shifting the content focus – from all about you types of content to more about the industry and customer problems you help customers solve. Furthermore, you should showcase the resources and value you bring in helping customers solve for their challenges. Ultimately, we want potential buyers to want to have a relationship with us, and it's important to help them connect the dots on how we will be relevant to them. Check out our slides here This episode is a bonus episode where I rehearse the two little presentations I did in the past two weeks. I was wondering how I was going to practice them, so I thought...well, I have the mic and the script, why not practice through a podcast! Unfortunately, these rehearsals are not the final product, but they might be more informative than the final product because it has me flesh out my thoughts a bit more. The timeframe I had to complete these presentations is much shorter than what you will be hearing today, but perhaps that's a good thing. Here is a little background of the two presentations: On July 10th, Berkeley for the Developing Future Foods Seminar was an event hosted by Alex Shirazi, who does the Cultured Meat Symposium and a killer podcast. I found his podcast really cool and we actually met at Food Funded in San Francisco. I was helping another person podcasting at the time so I helped him improve his podcast in terms of strategy and audio improvements. Alex asked me to be a speaker at this one and with some encouragement from my co-founder, I did so and rocked it. This was the first time in a while I did a live presentation but after I was done, people kept on coming and talking to me, which is probably a good sign. This was the same result with IFT. On July 16th, I joined the first ever IGNITE Session, which takes 6 passionate young professionals and they build a presentation to inspire others by discussing a pivotal point in their career. The people they choose relate to IFT award winners, young board members, people who create communities, and me. Debra Zabloudil did a great job facilitating this, and I've worked with her before at the Emerging Leader Network last year. I was chosen to do my presentation twice. One in the middle of the expo hall and another at a New Professionals Networking event. It was really fun and a lot of people came and talked to me. Every discussion I had was fruitful and inspiring. On Friday, expect an article about public speaking tips. I think that's what I'll be calling the article. It gives you my philosophy on public speaking as long as some tangible tips I use, such as cutting your hair last minute, to rock your speech. You can also find the slides on the top of the shownotes at myfoodjobrocks.com/131presentation Overall, the experience of public speaking was really energizing. If you want me to speak anywhere, let me know. Email me at podcast@myfoodjobrocks.com and we can set something up. No ads this time, this one is a freebie. Note: These are very rigid scripts and most were made to flesh out content than to be conveyed, but this is the raw version of the content. The cooked version is volatile and colorful, which is only beneficial when seen live. Berkeley Event Hi everyone, I’m Adam Yee. Let’s ask a few diagnostics questions before going with this. Raise your hand if you know what food science is. Raise your hand if you have a science degree Raise your hand if you have a business degree Ok thanks! One more question: What does innovation mean to you? What I’m going to teach you today is the foundation to innovate in food. We’re all here today to see the forefront of food technology. It’s actually quite an exciting time to be in the food industry and I’m loving what Alex is trying to put together. I believe that there are so many different ways to innovate, there’s really no wrong answer, but I do think there are a lot of fundamentals that you need to hammer down to truly make something special. So a little bit about me, I have my bachelors of Food Science about 4 hours down south in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Back in high school, I wanted to be a chef, but being a food scientist was a safer path. During my time in Cal Poly, I took charge of my creativity when it came to cooking to making food products. This includes entering and winning a lot of national competitions in the food science space. I’ve worked in the industry for about 4 years. Mainly in the protein bar field. And now recently, I’ve been recruited by some really cool people to be in a stealth mode plant based meat startup. If you’d like to know more about it, come see me after the show. Within industry, I made about $15 million in new product sales, maintained and innovated production lines and current categories in the bar space. And today I want to share with you what I’ve learned that helped me create good products. I’ve developed this sort of pyramid of innovation, what I thinka re truly the fundamentals of innovating in this particular field. On the bottom, you have Theory, or what a lot of thought leaders are saying, “mindset”. This mindset is super important because it basically allows you to not take no for an answer. I’m sure you’ve heard of the fixed versus growth mindset, and that’s one of the things we’ll be talking about. Next is knowledge of process, the technical nuances in creating products. I’ll tell you how my first job at a factory really amplified my ability to create really cool products. I think this is really important especially in the technical side of things to take away from. And the tip of the pyramid is hot trends. How can we recognize hot trends and how can we get them acceptable to the public? Theory of innovation Everyone has a different focus when it comes to innovation and a growth mindset. I think in general, there’s too many experts about it. That’s why it’s really important to carve your own path but do so by reading an accumulation of experts. Luckily, this field will always recommend excellent people. But books, podcasts, online courses, these were all fundamental to my growth mindset. I’ve listened to everyone from bad marketers to grand innovators and eventually, the people I liked, were starting to say the same thing. Small note: I recommend paying for the books and courses you plan on reading unless you are a huge passion for learning, buying things will force you to be more invested in the material and it’ll stick better. Eventually, you can build your own theory of innovation. For a small example, these are the books I’ve listened to that I’ve distilled have the most value for me. There are plenty of other podcasts and media that have helped me build my own theory, but let’s just focus on books. As you amass all of this knowledge, start to break them down into simple mantras that can guide you whenever you’re put upon a difficult situation. This will help you guide your thought process and come up with a solution based off of your personal beliefs and the experts you follow. So for me, a lot of the media I read is about asking great questions. This is amplified by my experience podcasting. The better questions you ask, the easier you can solve the problem. Taste is King is all about how products must taste good to be the best. There are plenty of products that taste terrible but sell a lot, but the best products taste good. And Spray and Pray is probably more counterintuitive than what you think of. In most circles, focus is a huge buzzword. I think focusing is very important, but if you can’t litmus test all potential avenues, you are missing out on potential opportunities. Here’s a list of other mantras based off of other people I’v emet. Maybe you recognize some of them. For example, the hustler. The guy in the suit who will grind it out to success. Or the visionary, who believes that they need to take action now. Or the life style designer, who really wants an easy life and that’s ok too. The best part is that these different mantras all work and all lead to innovation. Knowledge of Process So my first job was at a granola bar factory. It was actually a startup plant. Nothing was done, everyoen was new, and I had to be the expert. I got my hands dirty, sometimes doing the line worker’s job even though it was under my paygrade. It didn’t matter, I enjoyed the process and I learned a lot. Basically, it’s really tough! So within a year and a half, I learned how to make granola bars, dog buiscuits, crackers, and knew the machines, how to process them and the efficiency needed to make life easier for the workers. This was hugely valuable when I moved to corporate. The pain of create the products at the granola bar factory instilled the technical knowledge I needed to formulate protein bars to make the company millions. Most formulators don’t even think of commercializing, or the process of taking an idea to profit, until way later. But if you think of a way to commercialize first, then you eliminate a lot of wasted effort because the problem is scalable. And remember, every single product must be commercilizable to succeed. This is one of the hurdles with Clean Meat but luckily, there is already huge amounts of data that say it’s feasible to commercialize clean meat based off of the tissue replication industry. Clever Crossovers Once you get enough knowledge of the process, you can be creative and start applying processes towards new concepts. Here I have three examples. One project was when I first started my job at Isagenix. There was this 6 year long vegan bar in limbo and I took one look at it and recalled form my chocolate experience, that you can mask plant proteins with chocolate! Another was the template forms we used for granola bars. As long as we could templatize our bar formulas in Isagenix, we could create so many different types of flavors. By learning how to template my formulas, you can create a lot of products fast. Another example is what I’m currently working on. At my time in Isagenix, I learned how to make protein chips and we use a similar method to make this new product I’m working on with great success. So now let’s talk about Hot Trends. Everyone what’s a current trend everyone’s talking about right now? Ok, so another question I’ve always asked myself is that if you know the trend, how many other people know? Unfortnately, finding a trend that will explode is like finding the next bitcoin, it might be already happening. However, there are tons of opportunities where you can get ahead of the competition. Expos and Conferences, like IFT which this next week in Chicago, Expo West, Fancy Food Show, all really important places to find new trends and viable ingredients to make these trends happen. And a good piece of advice is that if you’re small, focus on the innovative ingredients because the big players will be too slow to apply these ingredients. It’ll take then 2 years for them to apply an ingredient. For you, it should take months. Seminars, like the protein Technology Seminar I went to last month was extremely useful. But it was really expensive. At about $1000 dollars, this price barrier filters out a lot of small players. However, I find seminars much useful than a 5 figure white paper and most startups don’t go to seminars because of the pricing barrier. But that’s a pretty big mistake. Newsletters like Food Dive and Food Navigator, I would even say following the Good Food Institute is beneficial as well. These will give you small tidbits of information that might be useful. Places like this, and create a network of cutting edge innovators is probably the best method. For me, the podcast I do has created a network that is so close to the cutting edge, I know all of the latest plant proteins, and clean technology. Networking with he right people is probably the best way to get info. So now we transform this foundational pyramid, and break it down into lego pieces. You’re free to build your own structure, integrating parts and pieces to create the newest innovation. Yet there is a way to do it. The difference between a Segway and the iphone has been written in many books but the most important takeaway is that it must be familiar and the marketing must be good. The better your marketing is, the more hands will try your product, but what will make the product stick is a good product. Then that creates kind of an infinite loop which kind of is this formula for virality. So an example is Taco Bell’s naked chicken chalupa, which is now being reintroduced. I could also say the taco fries are a hit too. It’s familiar, but slightly different. This is important for innovation. Beyond Meat has an incredibly powerful brand. I love them because every employee I met there is awesome. They are honest, Ethan Brown goes on viral podcasts, I honestly think this is why they sell at first. However, because their product is so good, people keep on coming back and they will keep on talking about this wow factor. A plant based burger than actually tastes like meat. Another probably older example is 5 hour energy. It was positioned really well in super markets and gass stations, advertising was spot on. So people will buy it. In most situations, the product works really well. It’s fast, convenient, and it works unbelievably well. SO as much as I would love to give you the secret formula to innovate, nothing beats trial and error. You have to actually do it to become innovative, but what I’m giving you is a foundation to innovate and keep on innovating. The more experiences you have, the more you can cross pollinate and create something cool. Jump into many things and eventually, they’ll connect together as long as you have the right mindset. If you can’t think of a way to innovate now, probably the best way to innovate is to try and gain traction from blogging or podcasting, or whatever. Take two of your favorite hobbies, combine them and talk about it. My Food Job Rocks was basically this. I enjoyed career advice podcasts and I thought it would be cool to interview people in the food industry. But the reward is getting people to actually listen to your stuff! But it’s a start to get the gears going. It’s the easiest way to get started. Anyways, that’s all, are there any questions. IFT IGNITE Event Introduction: Adam Yee is a food scientist and product developer. His experience ranges from granola bars, protein bars, protein chips, jams, chocolates, deli meats, and now plant-based meats. In his spare time, he hosts the podcast My Food Job Rocks! where he interviews an expert in the food industry weekly. My Food Job Rocks is a fully sponsored podcast that boats 45,000 downloads and has guests from the Nutritionist of Taco Bell to the CFO of Tyson ventures. My Food Job Rocks ‘ main goal is to showcase cool people in the food industry and inspire its listeners that they can have a cool job like this too. [Adam enters stage] Hey everyone, how’s everyone going? So I go by many names. I’m a food scientist at my day job, I’m an expert at protein bars so a lot of people call me bar man, and I eat everything so I’m sometimes called garbage disposal. However, today, I come to you has the host of the podcast, My Food Job Rocks. A side project that started two years ago that has changed my life. But My Food Job Rocks didn’t start as a random idea, it was actually there to solve a problem. I think a lot of people who want to try something, think an idea just falls out of the sky, but the easiest way to create something amazing is to solve a problem This is the article that started a podcast that has over 45,000 downloads. It was posted by Nicole Gallace who at the time, started Foodgrads, a platform which would act as a bit of a niche food industry recruitment site. Since she was starting her thing, I aske dhow I could help. We decided to end up doing a podcast. So my task was to interview an expert in the food industry every week with the sole purpose to showcase that there are really cool jobs in the food industry. After doing this for 2 years, I’ve noticed some really cool things happening that I’d like to share with you today. After about 120 episodes, you realize that passionate people, no matter if you are a food scientist, food safety auditor, event planner, or entrepreneur, you have the same things happening. Lessons, advice, they all say kind if the same thing. Posting an episode and an article every week also helped me retain information. We are all here today also, to network, and that’s great! But by having a genuine, passionate conversation, the network becomes a bit more substantial, the value of a good conversation was a worthy investment. And I also realized that, why am I the only one doing this? At the time, I can’t believe people aren’t doing podcasts about food science. So I really want to share that you can do this too. Skills I ask a set list of questions to all of my guests on My Food Job Rocks. I find asking the same questions gives me a set of data and trends that I can convince myself that this is the right thing to do. However, recently, I’ve been asking more indepth questions to make each interview unique. Here are 4 questions I picked out that resonated with me the most. How did you find out about food science? – Most people found out by surprise, or that their path wasn’t a straight line. Most people who received a degree in food science found out by switching. In fact, only younger guests really stuck with food science from freshman to senior. What are some important soft skills? – The most important skill is to be curious. And this is amplified by being inquisitive, passionate, and creative. As long as you love learning, you can get far in the food industry. What types of food technologies are really exciting you right now? – The umbrella of Sustainability has been one of the biggest topics that’s brought up but luckily there are many ways to approach the problem. We have cool products like Plant based meat and clean meat exciting most food scientists, but food waste has also been a huge topic to save the world. What is one piece of advice you can give someone in your industry? – Love what you do is the most common answer, and I think in the food industry, this is the easiest profession to love what you do. Food connects with people in such a different way than anything else, that those who love it, are obsessed with it. Blogging is hard Being Consistent is tough, it takes 6 hours a week to maintain and do things for the My Food Job Rocks Platform. That’s like, 12 netflix episodes. It can get tough, I think most people who start stuff like this don’t expect the long game. But this is about falling in love with the journey. The knowledge I acquired just doing one interview was more than enough to convince myself that this is worth doing. This is why I edit all of my own podcasts, because I can absorb the information once again. Sharing these interviews is icing on the cake. If you keep going, and try your best, week after week, you develop a sort of snowball effect. The more people you talk to, the more guests you have on the show, the more consistent your quality is, the easier it gets. What used to be about begging my friends I went to in college to try out this podcast, ends up being begging people on linkedin to give it a shot. But eventually, people start to get word of your stuff. As you refine your craft podcasting, or even blogging, you can convince experts to be on your show! Not only that, but the conversations you have will give you the ability to ask for really high profile guests to be on the show. A good referral is quite a powerful tool with the right network. And recently, I’ve received tons of Public Relations pitches so now I don’t even have to beg guests anymore! Network Now I would say the best part about doing these interviews are the people I’ve met. I make it an effort to connect with all of my guests in My Food Job Rocks. For some, I buy their products, others, I buy their services or partner up to do some amazing stuff. Usually, when I go to a conference, or expo, I ask if anyone one of my guests will be there and I got to say, I always meet someone! I think this type of networking is really important. Though the things we do here is awesome, nothing beats a good conversation with passionate people. It sticks, and I’m sure many of you can relate, if you work with passionate people, you can get things done a lot faster. You can Do This Too! Throughout my time doing My Food Job Rocks, I’ve met a ton of cool people. But it’s not just my guests. There are other people in other platforms such as Instagram, twitter, podcasting, blogging, that have asked for my advice and we push each other forward. This is the most rewarding part. Building a community of people will want to take destiny into their own hands. I offer as much help and support as I can. And so the biggest takeaway I want to give, is that you can definitively do this too. I am not special. In fact, I’d say I’m just a bit crazy, but I think all passionate people are crazy. It may seem daunting to create something like this in 2 years, but the benefits in all aspects of your life is incredibly rewarding. There is so much room in this space. Without podcasting, I wouldn’t know how to speak on stage, or ask for advice, or meet so many incredible people. The Ultimate Reward But maybe that won’t convince you. Educating people is nice, but what is the actual benefit? This might motivate you. How far can creating a platform really springboard your career? Well, for me, I left my corporate job in Arizona to join a plant based meat startup with some really high profile players. This would have never happened if I didn’t start the podcast. So this is just a simple story of someone who started a little blog, and how it opened so many doors for my career and all I want you to take away from this, is that you can do this too. And if you decide to put a lot of effort, and post consistently for a year from now, I’ve got your back. We’ve got your back. The world needs more science communicators. You can do this too. You got this.
