This Week on The Get Down we chat with the one & only TUNZ from Newcastle NSW. TUNZ is a passionate advocate for Hip-Hop Culture as a whole and is dedicated to sharing his skills as an artist to the youth surrounding him. An infectiously kind bloke, I have looked up to TUNZ for some time now and really enjoyed this chat. This week on The Get Down we are joined by our first ever Doctor on the show! But not unlike Dr. Dre, you should not expect any medical advice from this Doctor. Dr Dianne Rodger is an anthropologist and targets her field of research in the importance of Hip-Hop culture. Recently, Dianne has written a book fo rthe 33 1/3 series on the Hilltop Hoods album - The Calling. I was fortunate enough to be one of the participants in her interviews that went into this publication and it was a great opportunity to reminisce on The Calling and allow it to bring back such an amazing nostalgic feeling. Please enjoy this chat as we delve a little deeper into the process.Thank you Dianne!!!Diannne's Instagram: @21di12 The Get Down Beat produced by PTTCwww.linktr.ee/poundtothecredit_officialThe Get Down Logo designed by Ben Tan from @Graphic_tragic(C) Insurgence Productions - All rights reserved. 2020 - 2023
This week on The Get Down we chat with the lovely Kerrie Atherton. I met Kerrie at a friend's book launch and I knew within minutes that I wanted to have her come on the show and share her story. Kerrie wears a lot of hats in life, but her biggest strength is her desire to help others through sharing stories of hope. Kerrie has three books in publication and facilitates community events that showcase ordinary yet extraordinary people overcoming adversity. This was a free flowing conversation that was only cut short due to time restraints. I will definitely have Kerrie come back for another chat soon. Thank You Kerrie! *WARNING* This episode discusses suicide, addiction and other triggering content*Should you require assistance please see links below in the show notes.Find out more about Kerrie.https://storiesofhope.com.au/LIFELINE: 131114Alcoholism Assistance Links:https://www.health.gov.au/topics/alcohol/alcohol-contactsThe Get Down Beat produced by PTTCwww.linktr.ee/poundtothecredit_officialThe Get Down Logo designed by Ben Tan from @Graphic_tragic(C) Insurgence Productions - All rights reserved. 2020 - 2023

This week on The Get Down we are blessed with a chat with Adelaide MC and Producer TAIAHA! In the true meaning of the word TAIAHA is a Māori traditional weapon. Well, TAIAHA lives up to his name and is a fucking weapon on the mic, the boards, in the ring and as a person in general. Super humble and passionate to the bone, TAIAHA sings, raps and speaks from the heart. He has an infectious smile and appears to have no ego, a refreshing trait in hip-hop music. I was very intrigued to chat with TAIAHA on this episode and I am extremely excited to see what he pulls out of his music hat in the future. Matty is a professional boxer from Perth with a colourful past that appears to be following him despite his efforts to change for the better. I found Matty to be open and honest and I feel for him as I feel he has good intentions, however, he seems to be targeted as he moves into this new chapter in his life. I don't doubt Matty has the resilience to overcome this and achieve his goal of helping other. Keep your eye out for the charity fight coming up next year. This week on The Get Down we are joined by Adelaide born and world dominating MC Nelson Dialect. Dialect exploded onto the Hip-Hop scene in Australia at the young age of 14 years old, destroying MC's with his powerful battle rasps that appeared to be years beyond him. Nelson is a humble artist in the truest sense of the words. He has gambled everything for the love of his craft and he has made a safe bet in my opinion . This week on The Get Down we are jumping over to Inglewood California to chat with the punchline underboss, General Back Pain. Pain chats with Beats about his introduction to Hip-Hop music, gang culture, working with our very own FLU and the story behind the mask. I am a huge fan of GBP so this was kinda cool for me. However, pain is a mysterious mother fucker with an evasive demeanour, so there is still lots to be answered. Perhaps a Part.2 is needed. However, I think his music speaks for itself though. This week on The Get Down we are joined by ex pro boxer turned outlaw motorcycle club member Johnny '2 Guns' Walker. Johnny worked his way into a professional boxing career before succumbing to the allure of an outlaw bikie club. The same way he worked his way up the boxing ranks, he worked himself up the ranks in the club to the position of Sgt at Arms. This journey saw him involved in the unfortunate incident that left one man deceased and himself in prison for the next 8 years. Johnny speaks openly and honestly about his life, the effects his jail time has had on others and what he endeavours to do in his future. I have little doubt Johnny is on the right path of change. This week on The Get Down Beats chops it up with the one and only Mark Pollard. For those not in the know, Mark was the founder and heartbeat of the infamous Australian Hip-Hop magazine "Stealth" Stealth magazine was such an integral pert of the scene back then that it was not unlike a record dropping. By that I mean, the anticipation of the release was huge, the professionalism and the quality of content was all high quality and there was a sense of pride when it came to owning a copy. 15 years since its last publication, Mark talks to us about the days of the magazine's hay days, walking us through to what he is up to today. His book, his podcast and his life in America. We discuss the possibility of a 25 year anniversary issue and Mark even flips some questions back onto me! Kultar has been doing his thing brilliantly for over two decades now and in my opinion has flown under the radar for a lot of that time. Kultar is a humble and down to earth human with a heart of gold. I challenge anyone to find someone who has a bad word to say about the bloke. This week on The Get Down I was lucky enough to share a few hours with notorious prison escapee turned author, John Killick. I have never had a grandfather, but speaking with John felt like how it would be if I had one. A wealth of information with a gift of story telling blended with a willingness to share, combined with a level head devoid of ego. This week on The Get Down we follow on with the path of redemption and selfless acts of reimbursing the community at large. Beats chops it up with the super inspirational and dare I say charismatic, Jeffrey Morgan. Jeffrey spent his early years growing up in the tough and infamous suburb of Redfern, Sydney and through a desire to merely survive, soon found himself engaging in some serious criminal behaviour resulting in some pretty heavy prison sentences. To say he has turned his life around would be an immense understatement. Russell has lived a pretty different life to what some of us may call "Normal" from robbing banks, escaping custody and overcoming a dangerous heroin addiction, Russell is nothing less than a survivor! This story of redemption is one of inspiration, however it does contain some very heavy content. Listener discretion is advised. This week on The Get Down we are joined by a special member of the Australian music scene. In particular, the Australian Hip-Hop scene, Plutonic Lab AKA Pluto. Pluto has been actively making music for 25 years and as the title of the episode suggests, he has his finger in MANY pies across all genres of music. Beats chats with Pluto about his early days as a kid, his time with record labels Nuffsaid & Obese Records, right up to his touring with the Hilltop Hoods. This was an interesting one for me as over the years Pluto has always appeared to be too busy to bother at gigs and our meetings have been brief and few and far between. I learnt a lot about this incredible producer during this chat and found a great sense of humour lies beneath a serious and seemingly quiet man. Thank you for your time Leigh. Sit back, have a listen and do yourself a favour and check out his show “The Clink” If you don't know, well now you know... *LINK BELOW*Disclaimer: This episode has been perused by all parties lawyers. This week on the get down we speak to another gun with the gun, Schirm. Beats chats with Schirm as he walks us through his entry into the tattoo industry, his love of Hip-Hop and his love affair with the Granite Island Fairy Penguin. Schirm is humble, funny and most of all, super talented at his craft. I am honored to have some of his original work tattooed on me. This was a free flowing convo that saw me level out half a carton of beer. Luckily i had the next day off. Do yourself a favour and book in for some ink with this legend. Thank you Schirm!Disclaimer: No penguins were harmed in the recording of this episode.Episode Sponsor: www.drpickles.comThe Get Down beat made by PTTC - www.linktr.ee/Poundtothecredit_OfficialThe Get Down Logo designed by Ben Tan @ Graphic Tragic.(c) All rights reserved
This week on The Get Down we are joined by a guest who was just last week a stranger in the world to me. I met Georgie at a skate park whilst out with my son and observed she had a prosthetic leg from the knee down. We struck up a conversation and I was immediately blown away by her story and I asked her to stop talking and invited her onto the show. To my delight she said YES! I found Georgie to be incredibly brave, honest and funny, all rolled up with an infectious laugh to boot. I commend Georgie on her bravery and have no doubts she will use this reasonably new condition she is faced with to help others and bring positivity into peoples lives. Georgie also pops The Get Down's cherry by being the first female guest on the show. Thank you for your time and openness Georgie. I cant wait to drink beer out of your leg some time! Enjoy! This week on The Get Down we step away from Hip-Hop once again and Beats chats with Marshall from Third Eye Tattoo Studio down in Melbourne. Not only is Marshall incredibly talented at tattooing but I found he has an uncanny ability to have a great conversation convincing you that you have known him and been his friend for a long time. This may be due to all the hours he has spent talking to strangers in his tattoo chair, or it could be you follow his Only Fans account, and that's why you feel like you know him. Who knows. But in all honesty, I felt i could have continued this chat for hours and not become bored. Marshall was humorous and sincere and was able to articulate his passion and love of tattooing in a very undeviating way. I cant wait to sit in his chair and get tattooed by Marshall and will no doubt head out for a few cold ones after. Thanks for your time Marshall. I appreciate it!Enjoy, Beats.Disclaimer: Marshall's Only Fans Account is down for maintenance at the moment. Please be patient. This week on The Get Down Beats chats with the Godfather of U.K Hip Hop, Rodney P. Rodney has pioneered a definitive sound and carved a pathway for many upcoming artists in the U.K for over three decades, all the while being true and honest to himself and his music. His career has allowed him to navigate through a variety of story telling mediums. From rap to radio, right through to television and documentary making, Rodney has conquered all. I was a little nervous interviewing Rodney as he is such a master of his game, but i found his openness and genuine personality allowed me to not only complete the interview, but also gifted me the opportunity to learn from an O.G in this game that is storytelling. Thank you for your time Rodney. I look forward to seeing what you do next.Enjoy and peace.Beats. This week on The Get Down we are joined by the Adelaide O.G graffiti writer turned world renowned artist that is Jimmy C aka James Cochran. Jimmy made his bones back in the early 90's honing his skills illegally in the cold dark streets & train yards of Adelaide, South Australia. Many would have dismissed Jimmy as nothing but a vandal and hooligan, but he is living proof that if you put your mind to it and trust the process, you can go on to make a living doing what you truly love. As a young fella, I marveled at the gems Jimmy would treat us with on his late night missions all over the city and as an adult I am equally impressed by the amazing art he develops today. This is a true South Australian success story of following your dreams and a nice little reminder to not be too harsh on your kids if you catch them coming home with spray paint on their hands. Thanks for your time Jimmy. I really appreciate it mate! Enjoy. BeatsDisclaimer: Jimmy may or may not have ACTUALLY done illegal grafitti. This week on The Get Down we chat with rapper, producer, graphic designer, cafe dweller and avid dog lover, Realizm. I have know Realz for a long time, and although were were never the closest of friends, we have had many intellectual chats over the years and I have always had respect for him. Always well composed and armed with a good sense of humour and able to be razzed up without getting upset. More recently Realizm has utilized his talents to follow his dreams and now lives in his self sustainable Batman inspired mansion in a secret location in Adelaide. This one has been on the cards for a long time, so I was happy to finally chat with him. Thanks Realz. Keep up the great work! BeatsDiclaimer: Future guests, THIS is how you do a podcast. This week on The Get Down we are joined by a good mate and triple threat talent, Mnops. Skilled in the arts of rapping, graffiti and tattooing, Mnops has a very humble outlook on his abilities. On top of his talents, Mnops is a great father and has a great sense of humour and takes life as it comes whilst giving next to zero fucks about anything that is not close to his heart. I have had many a good yarn with Mnops in his tattoo chair and could talk to him forever and not get bored. I am very happy to have caught him during his busy schedule to share his story with all of you. Thanks Mnops. I appreciate it bro.Disclaimer: Several audio issues were had during this episode, so be patient and tune your zoom ears. Peace. This week on The Get Down we step away from Hip Hop again and chat with A.F.L Player Cam Ellis-Yolmen. Cam is a former Adelaide Crows player but now dons the Brisbane Lions Guernsey. We chat to Cam about his footy career, injuries, the stolen generation and even find out his Rap name should he ever dabble in hip hop music. It was great to hear from Cam and learn about his journey within footy as well as what he intends to do once he moves on from the game. I found Cam to be very interesting and look forward to seeing him back out on the turf soon. Tagging along on this episode is Dev as a co host. Dev goes for the Lions, so his oppinion is not as valuable as mine, but it was still nice to share the chat with Dev. This week I feel truly blessed to talk to a great man I have been a long time fan of for 20 years. I have met Sage over the years and had brief chats with him and back and forth e-mail conversations, so I thought I would take this opportunity to have a proper chat with him and find out how his career began, why he has been so quiet lately, how fatherhood is treating him and what is next for Sage Francis. I really enjoyed this interview and found Sage to be open and honest about all questions I asked him. Thank you Sage. I appreciate you more than you may ever understand. Enjoy. Beats. This week on The Get Down we take a HUGE leap away from Hip-Hop and take a glimpse into the world of an ex-underworld figure, gangsta & bikie. Vince Focarelli lived the life and knew full well the consequences of doing so. He spent many years in prison, he had several assassination attempts on his life & he was a media goldmine. Lives were lost, loved ones were murdered. But amazingly, Vince has found redemption and changed his life in ways not many men could. He walked away from the life, forgave and moved forward along his new path of Islam. This is a story of change and overcoming adversity it its purist form.Disclaimer: If you are not a religious person, or you are offended by Muslim rhetoric.
