- Andenna, Giancarlo. In this episode of Inspiring Women, Laurie McGraw speaks with Dr. Veronica Mallett, a physician, educator, and trailblazer with four decades of experience advancing health equity and workforce representation in American medicine. Dr. Mallett is Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the More in Common Alliance, a 10-year, $100 million partnership between Morehouse School of Medicine and CommonSpirit Health created to expand representation in medicine and close the physician shortage in underserved communities. Dr. Mallett shares the story behind her drive, growing up in Detroit as the daughter of two educators and civil rights leaders, who taught her that education was "the great leveler" and that having a principle means being prepared to stand alone. She talks about deciding at age 9 to become a doctor, navigating Barnard College and medical training as one of very few women of color in the room, and learning to turn individual setbacks into collective action. In this conversation, Dr. Mallett discusses: - Why the More in Common Alliance is doubling the class size at Morehouse School of Medicine and building regional medical campuses and graduate medical education sites in underserved areas - The work happening in communities like Bakersfield and Kern County, California — one of the most medically underserved regions in the state - Why she believes the promise that women "can have it all" was a myth, and what to build instead: a real support system and intentional choices - Her case for leaning into leadership roles — and how the autonomy that comes with them benefits your family, not just your career - Managing a blended family of six children, and what work-life balance actually means in practice - Overcoming imposter syndrome at every level, and the mantra her sister gave her: "Who I am is enough" Dr. Mallett previously served as Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College, and as President and CEO of Meharry Medical College Ventures. Earlier in her career she helped launch a new medical school at Texas Tech University in El Paso. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, earned her medical degree at Michigan State University, and holds a master's in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University. Inspiring Women, hosted by Laurie McGraw, features candid conversations with women leaders about the choices, setbacks, and turning points behind their careers. Restaurants play an important role in society. But according to six-time James Beard nominee Evan Mallett, that role may not be what you think it is.Beyond serving food, Mallett believes it's the role of the restaurant - especially a successful one - to highlight diversity, support local farms, and offer a seat at the table to those who aren't often invited.Today, the chef/owner of Black Trumpet, a legendary downtown Portsmouth restaurant, joins host Troy Farkas for a wide-ranging discussion about Mallett's untraditional culinary background, the WILD road that led him to open one of the Seacoast's top restaurants 20 years ago, why he's bullish on foraging and using local ingredients, and the CRITICAL role restaurants play in a community.Plus, the origin story of Farm-a-Q, and how the 2020 murder of George Floyd led Mallett, Vida Cantina's David Vargas, and Portsmouth assistant mayor Jo Kelley to start the New England BIPOC Fest.Click these links to learn more about BIPOC Fest, Black Trumpet, and Farm-a-Q. France is heading for a far right take overIn this latest Lowdown podcast Nick Cohen talks in-depth to with Financial Times journalist Victor Mallet, a former F.T Paris correspondent about his book "Far-Right France: Le Pen, Bardella, and the Future of Europe." Mallett explores how the French far-right, led by Marine Le Pen and her protege Jordan Bardella, has become a mainstream political force after decades of gradual growth since the 1950s. Nick and Victor discuss how the far-right has capitalised on immigration concerns, economic grievances, and media influence to gain power, while the traditional left and centre-right parties have struggled to maintain relevance.Victor Mallet explains how the far-right's seemingly more pragmatic approach and media support have helped them transform from a fringe party to a dominant force in French politics, with significant implications for the European Union's future and the broader European project, and possibly the hard-won peace of Europe. The Far Right is on the march across EuropeNick and Victor discuss how the far right is across the march across Europe, aided and supported by Trump's White House and Putin's Kremlin. They discuss the rise of far-right and nationalist populist parties across Europe and the United States, noting that countries with histories of fascist rule, like Germany and Italy, are now seeing significant support for these parties. They attribute this phenomenon to factors such as immigration, economic challenges, and the "Fox Newsification" of media, which fuels a culture war. Nick suggests that governments' currently tough stances on immigration, mirrored by leaders like Sir Keir Starmer in Britain and Friedrich Mertz in Germany, fail to resonate positively with voters, highlighting the stubborn complexity of addressing anti-immigrant sentiment at the ballot box.Read all about it!Victor Mallet FT @VJMallet is a journalist, and was formerly the paper's Paris correspondent in the last of three stints in France for the FT. Thing Discussed: Most excited about the hire: there are adults in the room. Spent 20+ coaching in one place with no scandals. Impressed that they stabilized the program so quickly. Portal recruiting happens in December; they're playing from behind because IU was setting up all of these visits weeks ago. Notice they're getting special teams guys because Coombs was already in his job. Whittingham as Crisler (Brian: [moans]), as an established outsider who locked down Harmon to survive the transition. That was the end of the Yost Cycle, and likewise this is the end of the Bo Cycle. What happens next? How does he develop ways to take advantage of Michigan's place in the new world. Money allocation is a big conversation going forward. Indiana puts all of its resources into the portal, Michigan will pay a NOB and also pay a Rolder. New offense: Not a whole lot different under Harbaugh? Utah fans: "get ready to run QB Power!"...okay! "Tell your TEs to prepare to be blockers." Sure. "Don't expect any Seth: More Urban Meyer approach where it's about efficiency more than explosives. Loaded at OL, have great RBs. Main feature of Beck is he plays a "tight end" who's really a receiver. Brian points out JJ Buchanan is 6'3"/225 and only played five snaps inline—that's just a wide receiver. Point is they're way more spread than people realize. In Break: Ryan Mallett (RIP). Craig says Lloyd tried to broker a conference with Mallett's dad and Rich Rod, neither side was interested. Jay Hill: Has the bona fides, knows where the hashes are, made Weber State a power. Schematically, going back to more of a Cover-1 look. Notre Dame defense is similar, also a lot like the Ryan Walters stuff where they turn their 4-2 into a 5-1 regularly. Really wanted to keep Cole Sullivan (as a WLB who can DE or S) and Jordan Young (as a nickel who can S or CB) for this system. Think Jyaire or Shamari would be good in that nickel role. Biggest hurdle for this staff? Probably learning how to recruit as Michigan instead of Utah.

In this fascinating episode, we explore the boundaries of physics and imagination with Dr. Ronald Mallett, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Connecticut and one of the few scientists in the world to have developed a theoretical framework for time travel. A pioneer in general relativity, black hole physics, and quantum cosmology, Dr. Mallett's groundbreaking work challenges what we think we know about time, gravity, and the structure of the universe. With a career spanning decades of research and teaching, Dr. Mallett's passion for science was born from a deeply personal story — the loss of his father at an early age which inspired a lifelong quest to unlock the secrets of time itself. His book, Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality, blends rigorous physics with human curiosity and heart. Tune in to discover: · The fascinating difference between special and general relativity. · What modern physics says about the possibility of time travel. · How black holes might hold the key to understanding space-time curvature. · The philosophical and ethical implications of manipulating time. Whether you're captivated by Einstein's theories, intrigued by black hole dynamics, or simply curious about the limits of human understanding, this episode offers a rare glimpse into how science and imagination collide at the edge of discovery. Elis and Producer Dave are fresh from taking breaths of the night DJ'ing. The only two people on planet Earth to become hipper as they age. But Mixmag has it that Elis spent most of it seated. Because that's what the top DJs do. Harris, Tong, Guetta, all from a seated position whilst sucking on Werther's Originals.Yes Elis got a little bit tired bless him and John simply isn't willing to let him forget it. Elsewhere there's 7 minutes of observational stand up which is hot to go to the nimblest comic, and just when you thought guff chat had tooted its last parp there's a hall of famer piece of correspondence. And if you root around there's also some lovely Mallett stuff and two big daddy Mad Dads amidst some top drawer listener generated content. To get in touch with your own gold standard contributions then get it to elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk or WhatsApp it on 07974 293 022 if you like your messaging a little fruitier.
Huge news in Elis and John towers today, for Producer Dave bumped into the man, the myth, the Solero supper himself, Mr Tim Davie. Could he use this opportunity to pitch a brand new true crime podcast about dupes from Stockport who get sold fake shoes? Well that commission's ripe for the taking if there's a Magnum that goes the other way.Alongside yet more DG discussion Elis really thinks he should get into juggling, for some inexplicable reason, and we have a game which makes the greatest use of a beat since the invention of the bass drum. To get in touch with the boys send anything you've got to elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk or WhatsApp on 07974 293 022.
The Retired Athlete's Club is one of the more clever ideas I've heard in a long time. McKenzie Mallett, a former captain of Salem State University Women's hockey team has come up with a new clothing apparel for those high school and college athletes that are officially done playing their sports after their senior seasons. This is a really great idea and I think she'll have much success with it. Check out this awesome episode.
There are a number of big stories in true crime at the moment, including a new dig for clues in the 1966 disappearance of the Beaumont children.Meanwhile, it's been a year since Ballarat's Samantha Murphy vanished—even as a suspect has been charged, her remains remain missing. Former NSW officer Beau Lamarre-Condon is heading to trial for the murders of Jesse Baird and his partner Luke Davies, while international controversy swirls over former pediatric nurse Lucy Letby's conviction for murdering seven infants. To discuss all of those developing stories is as regular contributor to Australian True Crime and leading Criminologist Dr. Xanthé Mallett.Do you have information regarding any of the cases discussed on this podcast? This episode is brought to you by Patrice's program, Command the Stage. Patrice welcomes another graduate of her Command the Stage program today, this time Jameelah Watkins-Mallett! Jameelah is an inspiring serial entrepreneur and interior designer, and as part of our Give Voice to Truth month, she and Patrice explore the transformative power of sharing personal stories and embracing one's authentic self. Tune in as Jameelah recounts how her struggles, including a divorce and the loss of her daughter, led her to embrace her voice and purpose. Through Patrice's Command the Stage program, she learned to overcome her fear of public speaking and use her personal experiences to connect deeply with others. Questions to Ask Yourself: How can embracing your personal story help you find purpose and fulfillment in your career? In what ways can sharing your experiences, even if you are not fully healed, benefit both yourself and others? How might you overcome self-doubt and step out of your comfort zone to pursue new opportunities? What role does community and authenticity play in achieving personal and professional growth? How can you use the principles of radical action and alignment to make changes in your life?
