It is almost impossible to quantify what Roger Corman has done for horror. He pretty much invented B horror, launched the careers of some of the most talented directors of all time, and is behind some of the most iconic genre films of all time. His influence can be seen in the video box art that older fans pine about and in podcasts like our own. He is a true icon.Typecasting is an interesting part of Hollywood. Some like scream queens and rom-com hunks lean into it. Others try to break out of the box others try to put them in. Think all of the comedic actors who have tried their hands at serious roles or child actors who appeared in more risque fare. It is always a shame to see an actor who obviously has a range of talents regulated to the same types of roles. But what if an actor typecasts themselves?Faceless After Dark stars Terrifer's Jenna Kanell as an actor whose breakout role was in a movie about a killer clown. The synopsis is a little misleading (when she is held hostage by a fan dressed as said clown, she must do whatever she can to survive) as it is more of a revenge story than the logline implies. And that is just the first confusing thing. The lead character is completely unlikable, the direction is headache inducing, and motivations are nonsensical. Are we supposed to root for Bowie Davidson (Kanell)? Why does she hate her fans so much? Is jealousy truly the root of all evil. Faceless After Dark has something to say, and it touches on real issues like toxic fandom and gender, but it is all done in a way that is confusing and just plain insulting. This movie was absolutely directed towards Terrifer fans and they are not going to like what it has to say.Bruceploitation Month ends with the most famous Bruce Lee imitator of all. He was also the person who brought an end to the genre. Initially, Jackie Chan was supposed to continue in the footsteps of Dragon Lee, Bruce Li, Bruce Lea, and so many others. He did not want that and proceeded to carve out his own name. But not before he gave us 1976's New Fist of Fury.Xenophobia, confounding death scenes, a complete downer of an ending and, of course, a completely random Bruce Lee reference are all part of the film. It is a chance to see Jackie Chan very early in his career and has a powerful story to boot. At least, it seems powerful. Since the subtitles do not translate everything, we are left to assume that much of what is happening is very poignant and meaningful. The final shot certainly left us feeling something; too bad none of it was good. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Don't let yourself continue to feel stuck or typecast in your role. The best way to shift toward your next opportunity is by making yourself visible and showing your value to leadership. Often, employees assume their hard work will automatically be recognized and rewarded. The reality is that it's not always the case. It is crucial to be proactive about your aspirations. Have an open conversation with your leader about your career goals. Let them know where you envision yourself within the organization and beyond. That will increase the likelihood of creating that next big break for yourself. In the meantime it is necessary to work on developing a parallel plan. If you've been locked in the same role for a long time, then start to explore and confirm opportunities elsewhere. Seeing other roles will give you reassurance that can provide the courage needed to discuss career progression. It may even prompt a change if progress within the current organization isn't feasible. Meanwhile, managers need to be more observant and proactive with their team members' career progression. Have regular career discussions and encourage an open-dialogue. That can prevent the loss of valuable team members who feel unnoticed or unappreciated. It's not only about what you can do for your team, but also about recognizing what your team can do for the organization with the right opportunities. Remember, it's not just about showing up. It's about standing out! Don't wait to be noticed. Take the initiative, demonstrate your value, and ask for the opportunities you want. Val Lucas is one of the few changing the game and carrying on the legacy of metal typecasting. We were introduced to her stunning work via her pattered border submissions to the APA, and we knew we had to have her on to walk us though this process! This episode covers Val's journey from printing classes to creating her own line of cast borders. We strongly encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about typecasting to look into classes, mentorship or even reaching out to us to see where and how you can learn more! Without active participants wanting to carry on the legacy, this keystone of print history will disappear! To support Val, and see all of her amazing work, you can visit her website www.bowerbox.com and follow her on instagram: @bowerbox!
A few tips to help you stop typecasting yourself: Get back in touch with yourself. Get in touch with who you are and who you want to be. Is there a disconnect between who you are and who you desire to be? Highlight the parts of you that you really like/ really enjoy. Identify the areas you aren't too fond of. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Don't be afraid to take risks. EXPAND yourself. I know growth is scary. In that risk-taking, you will develop or grow parts of you that you labeled as weaknesses or aren't too fond of. On your “to do list” for the remaining months of this year, make two goals (I don't want to overwhelm you so two is good for now), make two goals where you take a risk – do something different, try something different. Build/expand your network. As much as we love the people in our lives, sometimes it's good to get to know other people, different types of people. It exposes you to different experiences, different ways of thinking, different ways of being. These are people who may be different from your normal circle – whether that's a friendship circle, career circle, business circle, etc. Diversify your network. Cultivate relationships with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Keep learning. Keep learning about yourself. The beauty of life is that (hopefully) we grow and evolve and so do the things we like, we do, the type of people we want in our life, our boundaries, etc. Keep learning YOU. Keep learning about life. Keep learning in general. Include a variety of experiences. This goes back to those two goals I mentioned earlier. Try something new. Be patient. Along the way of self-discovery and “untypecasting” yourself, be patient with yourself. Change can be messy, uncomfortable, frustrating, etc., be patient with yourself. Avoiding typecasting is a crucial part of life. Stop typecasting yourself. Stop applying for the same type of jobs. Stop limiting your experiences. Stop dating the same type of people. Stop having all the same type of friends. Stop always thinking the same way. Stop always doing the same habits over & over. I'm Nicole L. Turner, your mindset coach, helping you shift the way you think so you can change the way you live. If you are in need of a mindset coach, you can reach out to me at DetoxForYourLife.com.
Summer is still here. It just won't go away. And yet, we managed a bonus episode to keep you going until such time as we can peel ourselves back up off the floor and get back to it. This episode is made up of two discussions that unintentionally wound up connecting to each other. We talked typecasting, Alan Rickman was mentioned. A couple of weeks later we recorded, on Si's PHONE ( the shaaaame!) an impromptu discussion on the subject of THAT nose while with our kids in the park. The results...well, I'll let you decide. A Long Island native, actor, writer, and (reluctant) producer Eddie Alfano (Barry, Shameless, Good Trouble, Birds of Prey) has a huge body of acting work and has written and produced multiple award-winning short films and web series. We covered a lot of ground in this interview, from the challenges of film acting to how to utilize your perfectionist traits to nail your self tape every. single. time. Eddie looks back on his career when he started acting back in 2008 during the last Writer's Strike and what he would have done differently, and how he has chosen to embrace his typecast as the cop and bad guy. He also shared what it was like for him to cast his own short films, and what he looks for when casting actors. If you're like me and have always wondered about using your typecast to your advantage, casting actors in your own work, and what we can do to make ourselves shine, this episode is for you. Whether he's acting in a film, on-stage or involved in a television series, Russell Hornsby ends up delivering a powerful performance full of emotion with a genuine passion for the craft. In a career spanning over two decades, his extensive portfolio includes the infamous boxing promoter, Don King, in Hulu's “Mike,” the Oscar-nominated Paramount film, FENCES, opposite Denzel Washington and Viola Davis; the Netflix drama series, “Seven Seconds,” with Regina King; and the devoted patriarch in the mega-hit STARZ series, “BMF (Black Mafia Family).” But in many of his roles, he plays the ‘angry Black father' – a moniker he says is “misplaced.” Join us as host Eddie Robinson speaks unguarded with award-winning actor, Russell Hornsby, in one of I SEE U's most provocative episodes ever produced. The NAACP Image Award nominee offers up fresh insight into how he's managed to channel certain energies within himself to bring such an astounding presence and strength to his style of acting. Hornsby candidly admits that it's these portrayals of fatherhood that speak to a larger sense of dignity, cultural worth and personal responsibility, especially in fatherless homes of today. Plus, the star describes what he believes to be the real reason behind the success of shows like BMF and the popular POWER franchise.

Hour 1 * Guest: Chris Carlson – Without God, we can never win, With God, we can never lose, The Battle for Freedom is the Lord's, but we need to be engaged in the fight! * Fool Me once, Shame on You. Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me! * Donald Trump- They're ‘weaponizing' our justice system! – FoxNews. * The Trump Indictment Deception. * Don't underestimate the role the media is playing in hyping up this made-for-tv Trump docudrama. * Why Does the Deep State Want Trump to be Our Next President? * One of The reasons that the deep state has selected Trump as the conservatives' standard bearer, is because he, is ideally suited as a type-cast. Hour 2 * Typecasting is a performing arts devise used to heighten the drama of staged performances. A typecasted character, whether that be a villain or a hero, embodies the quintessential elements of his or her role in the performance. Villains must have only unredeeming vices and heroes must have only redeeming virtues. Just as movies have been used to mold the human psyche, modern-day political propaganda theatre has adopted dramatic conventions to achieve the same effect on the political stage. * Trump is not the Real Target; We Are! * “UN Pushing New Age Spirituality on School Children,” – Alex Newman, TheNewAmerican.com * Why is there So Much Evil in the World? * Biden's ESG Agenda – William F. Jasper, TheNewAmerican.com * Let's take a little quiz. Are you for or against? * More than two dozen states are suing the Biden Administration over the ESG rule, and states are diversifying from BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, and other asset managers that are pushing ESG. * Twenty-five states are suing the Biden administration in an attempt to block a Department of Labor rule that allows fiduciaries to consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors when choosing retirement investments. * The WEF globalists see ESG as a crucial element of the Great Reset, the plan to “reset” all of humanity politically, economically, socially, biologically, morally, and spiritually. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/loving-liberty/support

In a rare treat, two unmistakable character actors join the pod: Wes Studi and Dale Dickey. If you don't know their names, you certainly know their indelible faces from movies like "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Winter's Bone." They star together in the tender, dusty new romance film, "A Love Song." Studi and Dickey tell Chance all about finally getting to kiss anyone on screen, plus plenty of talk about acting bucket lists, "Reservation Dogs" and improv battles with Jennifer Lawrence.

We have a *hilarious* conversation with actor Erica Luttrell (Lost Girl; Salvation; Mayans M.C.), who voices lesbian icon Sapphire on Steven Universe! Back when she was younger, Erica made a point of differentiating between her platonic female crushes (Gillian Anderson) and her non-platonic male crushes (you will genuinely never guess who). But the formative experience of seeing Shakespeare in Love brought up some feelings she could no longer ignore, and kicked off a five-ish year internal struggle with her sexuality. Erica reads some GLORIOUS journal entries from that time in her life, and discusses how she eventually grew to identify as "homoromantic demi-pansexual" (but also just "gay"). Plus, she shares how she *still* gets cast almost exclusively in make-out-with-a-dude roles, even after publicly coming out! WHAT'S IT GONNA TAKE, HOLLYWOOD?!?Follow Erica everywhere at @shukrani.

In this episode, I'm speaking with accomplished standup comedian and actor, Ethan Hershenfeld. We talk about his most recent projects and his experience with often being typecast as the villain. We also discuss the nuances of diversity and cultural appropriation for entertainers. The latter part of the episode features a fictional story – written and read by Parker James – and inspired by Ethan's one and only time playing Prince Charming. Listen as we touch on the complexities of the entertainment industry and hear a new fictional narrative inspired by Ethan's acting experience. Wise Guy Charming - A Fictional Story in Print Play on Podcasts IN THIS EPISODE: [00:01] Ethan Herschenfeld introduced [00:59] From Opera Singer to Comedian/Actor [02:38] Thug Thug Jew [04:10] Typecasting [08:09] Diversity in the entertainment industry [12:16] Cultural appropriations in entertainment [16:40] Addressing cultural issues in comedy [20:30] Upcoming projects [22:59] Ethan's writing prompt [26:39] Wiseguy Charming [30:09] A disinterest in the family business and dream of acting [31:06] Acting classes while working for the family business [32:23] Dream role as Prince Charming [33:37] A surprise confrontation KEY TAKEAWAYS: Ethan spent the better part of two decades as an opera singer, before transitioning to stand up, where he enjoys the spontaneous laughter and the release of energy from the audience. Although there has been a push for diversity in theater and TV, racism is still woven in storylines in how villains are written as certain ethnicities. There is still an infinite appetite from audiences for cliche and offensive storylines related to certain ethnicities and religions. Comedy is a different world where you're getting laughs and allowing people to unload baggage around topics that are very charged. The beauty of theater and performing arts in general, is it opens up a world of empathy for the audience and for the performer to explore things that they don't get to explore in their real lives. There has to be, however, a push to diversify roles and casting and be cognisant of cultural appropriation.
