In this episode, I sat down with Musap 'Moose' Abde to talk about the realities of struggle, resilience, and finding purpose when life doesn't go as planned. His story isn't a straight line—it's filled with setbacks, tough decisions, and moments that could've gone either way.We talked about what it's like growing up between cultures, facing failure head-on, and why the hardest experiences often teach the most valuable lessons.Moose shared how he navigated everything from family challenges to starting over more than once, and how those experiences shaped his mindset around success. This isn't a story about overnight change—it's about the small, often uncomfortable steps it takes to figure out who you are and what really matters. How To Connect:Jeff Humphreys - https://www.jeffhumphreys.caMoose -https://siys.caPodcast Location - https://www.modelmilk.caPodcast Production - https://www.shortlinecreative.com

Anunciamos que reeditaremos la camiseta de Mallorquinista i Patidor y, last but not least, Miguel recibe a Jagoba Arrasate dedicándole una poesía. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/birmingham-99/message

The Barca Breakdown discussed the upcoming match Real Betis in Seville. There is a lot to be won if Barca can defeat Betis. Not only are Betis 3 points behind Atletico Madrid for the 5th spot in the table, but Sevilla are only 2 points behind Barca fighting for the second place spot. With Real Madrid already securing the title, Barca need this win in hopes to maintain their Supercopa chances. However, in the last meeting Barca were defeated at the Camp Nou 0-1 with Juanmi scoring. It is important to remember this game was Xavi's fourth game after becoming the Manager and the team was struggling. That game Barca were playing Abde, Jutgla, and Depay upfront with Busquets, Nico, and Gavi. This was a less than ideal line-up and things really changed when Barca acquired Aubameyang, Traore, and Ferran Torres. There was also the drama of Ousmane Dembele who was not getting play time due to the contract negotiations. Now the Barca team is different and a new story can be written. The recent performances however have really seen Barca struggle against sub tier teams. Alongside the injuries to Pique and Pedri, Frenkie De Jong has also been struggling in the midfield and his frustration is clear. To be fair, there is a lot happening and his performances may be due to the other surrounding issues limiting his abilities. Lastly, with the return of Ansu Fati, it could be what Barca need if they are struggling in the second half. It is unlikely that Xavi will start the youngster as he is just getting back from his injuries and it would be unwise to rerisk injury.

Hi Article Clubbers! Welcome to February. Before revealing this month's article, I would like to express my gratitude to Sara, Abde, Jennifer, Bonnie, Elise, Marcus, Summer, Toronzo, and Peter for our discussion last Sunday of “Good Mother.” Special thanks go to Sara — for joining Article Club for the very first time! — and to Sierra Crane Murdoch, for your beautiful article. I'm pleased to announce that this month, we'll be reading “When Things Go Missing,” by Kathryn Schulz. Originally published in The New Yorker in 2017, and featured in The Highlighter as the best article of the year, the piece inspired me to make Article Club a reality. In fact, back in January 2018, eight of you joined me in Oakland to discuss the article at “Choc Talk,” the very-first rendition of AC. (We've come a long way!)Here's the blurb I wrote about the piece for The Highlighter:Kathryn Schulz begins this astounding piece with anecdotes about losing things – her keys, her wallet, her car. Then Ms. Schulz turns to the loss of her father, who died last year. Her writing is exquisite, and her thesis – that living is losing – will bring you pause, even if reading about death is something you'd rather not do.Since then: The essay became a book! Lost & Found, published last month by Random House, is a beautifully written memoir that expands on themes from the original essay – for example: that losing is inevitable, while finding is truly astonishing. Ms. Schulz joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 2015. In 2016, she won the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing and a National Magazine Award for “The Really Big One,” her story on seismic risk in the Pacific Northwest. Previously, she was the book critic for New York, the editor of the environmental magazine Grist, and a reporter and editor at the Santiago Times. She is the author of “Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error” and “Lost & Found.”I hope you'll join me and fellow Article Clubbers in discussing the piece on Sunday, February 27, 2:00 - 3:30 pm PT! This event will be on Zoom and will be limited to 24 participants. Are you IN?I hope so! If so, here's what to do:Announce the good news by leaving a comment below. In a sentence or two, say hi and share why you're interested.Sign up for the discussion by clicking here. This will save your spot and tell me you're committed to joining.Start reading the article. Here's the original, and here's a shared version we can annotate together.Coming up this month at Article ClubThis week: We'll sign up for the discussion and start reading the article.Next week: We'll annotate the article and share our first impressions. The week of February 14: We'll listen to an interview with Ms. Schulz. The week of February 21: There will be a surprise.Sunday, February 27: We'll discuss the article with fellow Article Clubbers. Plus, I'll raffle off a copy of Lost & Found. Are you new to Article Club? If so, welcome! We look forward to meeting you and having your voice in the conversation. The Barca Breakdown discussed a narrowly won Barcelona performance against Deportivo Alaves. In the attacking front we saw Abde, Torres, and Luuk De Jong. Xavi started Frenkie De Jong in the midfield in place of Gavi (out due to red card against Granada) alongside Busquets and Pedri. And in the back we finally see the return of Dest with Araujo, Pique, and Jordi Alba. It's hard to imagine Barca playing in such a lethargic, slow, and utterly uninteresting game against the 19th team on the table. Yet a late goal by Frenkie was the highlight of the 90 minutes. Other than that moment, Barca performed like a bottom tier team against a team facing relegation. Xavi made incredibly late subs (first in the 71') when clearly his strategies on the pitch in the first 70' were not working whatsoever. The Breakdown questions how Xavi didn't implement changes to boost the energy of Barca (clearly the choice should have been Dembele). Of course Xavi started Alba, Busi, and Pique playing them another 90'. In two weeks Barca will play Atletico Madrid, who are 1 point ahead of Barca and played the same games. After the performance in the Copa Del Rey against Athletic Bilbao and Alaves, Barca have almost zero chance of winning that game to take 4th on the table.
The Barca Breakdown discussed another tough loss in a big game. In the Round of 16 of the Copa Del Rey Barca were knocked out by Athletic Bilbao who just lost in the Supercopa against Real Madrid. Seeing as the Barca Breakdown have believed Barca were on a small upswing this game has really highlighted the teams deficiencies. First and foremost, the Barca backline is old and slow. We constantly have Dani Alves, Busquets, and Jordi Alba playing defense against some of the fastest players on the pitch and time and time again they fail to keep up and prevent counters. Of course we can say that these players are old and under performing to the caliber they once had, but who is really to blame? It is clear and obvious these players are old, but we see them time and time again playing a full 90 minutes on the pitch and constantly let us down. Xavi is clearly choosing to start the players and not making tactical decisions to minimize or account for the players deficiencies. Furthemore, it seems we lack the strategies to prevent being susceptible to counters and set pieces which have resulted in many goals against the Blaugrana. With the benching of Ousmane Dembele, due to his lack of contract agreement, Barca were left to head the game with Abde, Jutgla, and Ferran Torres. Essentially, all three were non-existent in the front attack and really lacked creativity and open space to press. This could have also been a result of the fact that Barca could not keep Bilbao out of their half for most of the game. Only a few players were a delight to watch, the top three being Ronald Araujo, Pedri, and Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Barca have a lot of work to do, but It needs to be orchestrated by Xavi to realize his vision and Barca success.
The Barca Breakdown discussed Barca's second away victory of the season against 15th place RCD Mallorca. The win puts barca in 5th place, 1 point behind Atletico Madrid and 2 points behind Real Betis. With so many Barca players out of the roster, Dembele, Gavi, Abde, and more due to Covid, the results are wonderful. Xavi deployed a 4-3-3 with Araujo, Eric Garcia, Pique, and Mingueza fortifying the back line. In the mid field Puig, Nico and FDJ fed balls forward to Jutgla, LDJ, and Ilias. While this team is not seasoned on the pitch, Minuguza was able to supply a cross to the head of LDJ who put one away as the game winner. This goal came at the end of the first half, which means Barca had a lot of work to do to secure the 3 points. Overall, Barca was able to protect the net until a huge chance came to Mallorca. Barca's German Wall, who has not been living up to this name, finally redeemed himself with a massive save by slapping the attempt away with his forearm. Barca finally broke the 7th spot on the table and reached 5th, just in range to secure a Champions League spot for next season. The results could not have been much better with the hand Barca was dealt. Although, the biggest worry is Dembele will not sign to extend his career at Barca and if we do not transfer him in the January window, he will be off for free. Despite this, Ferran Torres, Pedri, and Fati should be available soon to get to the 4th spot! Forca Barca!

The BarcaBreakdown the 2-2 Draw vs. Sevilla in La Liga. Facing the #2 team in La Liga, Xavi's Barca played a very impressive game as the team continues to learn Xavi's style he intends to implement in the team. Ronald Araujo scored a wonderful header and the only goal allowed by Barca was an unfortunate corner goal in the first half. Barca really took the first half by storm and showcased some brilliant offensive play with Gavi, Dembele, and Abde showing no fear against a great Sevilla side. The game turned on its head once Kounde received a red card for throwing the ball directly at Jordi Alba's head. Sevilla played a very aggressive game with multiple fouls on Barca players throughout the match. Down to 10-men, Sevilla parked the bus and Barca had very few good scoring opportunities. Again, we still are facing tremendous injuries to our offense with Fati, Pedri, Depay, and Braithwaite all still injured. The team continues to inspire, especially led by young payers like Gavi, Nico, Abde, and Araujo. Our team still has an issue of turning in weaker second half performances, though this is getting better. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss the 2-2 draw vs. Osasuna in La Liga. Xavi's Barca unfortunately could not hold their lead after scoring both goals, leading to a late Osasuna goal. Gavi, Nico, and Balde continue to impress as the youngsters are performing much better than experienced plays like Pique, Alba, and Busquets. We continue to see worrying signs from Frenkie De Jong, who looks like he has lost his enjoyment of playing the game. Rumors are swirling that Ter Stegen and De Jong are no longer invincible from transfers, so it will be interesting if Xavi can help get Frenkie back on track. Unfortunately, with massive injuries to our front line, we had to start Luuk De Jong. Luuk once again showed that he is not able to play at the level Barca need him to. The Barca Breakdown discussed the first loss under the Xavi Era against Real Betis. Unfortunately, Xavi did not choose to start Dembele and Frenkie De Jong who were both instrumental in the majority of opportunities on goal. The Barca starting line-up featured Dest as right back, Abde as right wing, and Gavi moved back to the midfield. The first 15 minutes had opportunities for Barca to score and press Betis. Despite this, Barca fell into their usual low energy, slow, and unmotivated game finishing off the first half. As the second half progressed, Xavi recognized changes were needed especially after Gavi was removed for Puig due to a head injury. Dembele came on and immediately made a world of difference with his speed, passing, and shots on goal. A few shots were just wide from Dembele giving a sense of hope and lethality. Like usual, Barca played a high defensive line resulting in a counter and the winning goal from Juanmi. Furthermore, Dest was unaware and did not mark Juanmi, leaving Stegen to concede. We criticized Xavi for his choice of starters, assuming he rested them for the game against Bayern Munich. We question why there was a need to do this assuming our true hope to progress in the Champions League will result from Benfica losing or drawing to Dynamo Kyiv. Overall, we need to prioritize La Liga to climb the table for next year's Champions League. Barca Face Bayern Munich on Wednesday, December 8th. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The Barca Breakdown discusses Barca's first away victory and 2 consecutive wins in La Liga for the 2021-22 Season. With the continued roster of injured players, Xavi is left with deploying Gavi at the left wing and Erica Garcia as right back. Xavi also utilized Abde with his first starts for FC Barcelona. As the match began, many players created threatening opportunities on goal like Depay's 2 chances at goal that went just wide. Also, FDJ provided an offensive mindset running into the box and fighting to score. Abde continued to attack the right wing, breaking defenders in attempts to cross the ball into the box. All of these feats unfortunately bore no goals in the first half. As the second half began, a cross from Alba came to Depay's feet and his shot was blocked. Luckily, Frenkie De Jong made a run in the box and was able to put away the first goal of the match. Barca's performance began to look weak as Villarreal pressed up the field causing havoc. Eventually, Chukwueze was able to smash an equalizer in the back of the net. This game might have been over at this moment under Ronald Koeman. Although, Xavi as manager has seemed to have given life to the young squad and they backed the coach up. In the last 15 minutes of the game, a long ball over the top from Ter Stegen was able to find Depay who cracked the tie and took the lead. It didn't stop there, in the 90'+4, the substitute Coutinho drew a penalty and scored it to wrap the final 1-3 for the Blaugrana. We discuss the incremental improvements Xavi has been able to create with the young Barca squad and are they enough to get Barca into the top 4 of La Liga. Barca sit 7th on the table and will face Real Betis (5th on the table) next. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel!
