The Barca Breakdown discuss the results of Barca vs. Levante at the Camp Nou. Barca took 3 points, defeating Levante 3-0. Early, Depay won a penalty and scored for an early lead. Moving forward, Dest, acting as the left back in place of Alba, cut to the middle and delivered a ball for Luuk De Jong to score his first Barca goal. In the 81', Ansu Fati returned to the pitch for the first time in a year. In the first 9 minutes of his return, Fati took one to the back of the net, sealing a triumphant return as all had hoped. We further speak on improvements against Levante from the Cadiz and Granada games. These include better passing, more forward movement, and a fight to the end. Interestingly, this game showed Koeman away from the bench due to the red card against Cadiz, and assistant coach Alfred Schreuder was on the bench. We are very excited to see Fati perform well, and we will hopefully see Dembele, Aguero, and Braithwaite back with the team soon enough. Barca have some tough games coming up in the Champions League vs. Benfica, and against Atletico Madrid in La Liga. We need all fans to be in support of the team to see if we have a chance to win titles this season. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss the first game of FC Barcelona's Champions League conquest, beginning with a match at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, September 14th! Bayern will be coming to Spain after just defeating RB Leipzig 4-1. Unfortunately, the international break has not been the kindest to Barca again, with Sergino Dest injured and possibly Jordi Alba. Furthermore, Braithwaite may have some knee discomfort so Luuk De Jong may play (yet he hasn't had much time on the team). The Barca Breadkdown discusses if our defense can hold back the Bayern attack. This leaves us questioning, with our injuries, if Koeman will play a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2. Either choice, we can't help but have our doubts about Koeman's tactical abilities. Will he choose a good line-up, will he have a plan, and lastly, will he make intelligent subs. Of course we cannot forget the attacking capabilities of Lewandowski, Muller, & Davies. The tactical mindset of Julian Nagelsmann has proven to be great in Bundesliga and the Champions League. The BarcaBreakdown discusses the second game of the 2021-22 La Liga Season which resulted in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao. Ronald Koeman went with the same line-up as he did against La Real.    The first half of the game had blunders from the likes of Eric Garcia and Neto. This allowed Inaki Williams to threaten us multiple times which finally resulted in a goal from Martinez. Braithwaite (who had an early chance on goal) and Greizmann were hardly seen on the ball for any time of forward play. To add to the dismay, Pique came off early in the game due to injury and was replaced by Araujo, who played wonderfully, even attempting a bicycle kick goal that was overturned.    Positive highlights of the game came in the form of some beautiful offensive and defensive work rate from Frenkie De Jong, a stalwart in the midfield. Unfortunately, Pedri looked a little tied but still played well. He will be receiving a 2 week vacation to give him some rest time.    Finally in the 75' Depay scored a well controlled rocket of a shot past the goal to equalize. Near the end of the game Depay went just wide to miss the net to take the lead. The result, a 1-1 draw at San Mames, leaves Barca with 4 points for the season.    Koeman has his work ahead of him leading into next week's game at the Camp Nou against Getafe.    Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel!   Twitter: https://twitter.com/BarcaBreakdown Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/barcabreakdown   Listen to our podcast on Spotify or Apple/Itunes Podcast. The BarcaBreakdown discuss FC Barcelona's 4-2 victory against Real Sociedad in the first La Liga game of the season. With goals by Gerard Pique, 2 by Martin Braithwaite, and Sergi Roberto, Ronald Koeman's team played some beautiful football/soccer in the first game after Lionel Messi's departure to PSG from Barca. The team did have some defensive lapses in the second half as we allowed 2 goals to La Real. For the starting lineup, Koeman mainly went with an expected 11 anchored by the midfield of Pedri, Busquets, and Frenkie de Jong. Up front, Barca had Memphis Depay, Braithwaite, and Antoine Griezmann. In the back, the biggest surprise was starting Erica Garcia over Lengelet or Araujo, to go along with Sergino Dest, Gerard Pique, and Jordi Alba. The offense looked explosive, with Barca routing Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou for most of the game. Memphis Depay impressed on his first official Barca game, though he was not able to get his first goal. Koeman utilized all 5 subs, which seemed to have thrown off the cohesion amongst the lineup, as Emerson, Araujo, and Lengelet all subbed in for our defense. The BarcaBreakdown discuss, with Messi's official farewell, FC Barcelona has won the Joan Gamper Trophy with a 3-0 victory over Juventus. A sad yet promising day in Barca's future. We saw some wonderful young faces and goals with the likes of Depay and Puig. We discuss today's performance and how we will move forward as we start the 2021-22 Season next week. Before the game, it was reported that Frenkie De Jong, Lenglet, and Sergio Aguero were injured and will be out for a few weeks. Despite this, we had a great opener to the first half with a wonderful goal from Memphis Depay, assisted by Demir. In the second half we had 2 goals beginning with a corner from Depay and Braithwaite placing a flying header in the back of the net. Near the end of the game, a pass from Nic, Puig takes a turn and pummels the ball in the back of the Juventus net. The game showed wonderful pressure and defensive work rates from forwards, Greizmann and Braithwaite. Of course Araujo looked strong and bullied with his big body and Pique tactfully cleared balls. Roberto still has no place on the pitch but it was wonderful to see Neto gaining some traction by deflecting multiple shots including an attempt from Ronaldo. Neto won the MVP of the game and Busquets held up the trophy after the match as captain with a smile. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! Book Vs Movie: “To Sir, With Love” The 1959 E.R. Braithewaite Novel Vs the 1967 Sidney Poitier Movie To Sir, With Love was a smash hit movie in 1967 making over $40 million at the box office and making singer Lulu an international sensation who not only stars in the film but sings the theme song. The Margos take a deep dive into the original work and how it came to be the voice of a generation in London during the “mod” movement.  The 1959 novel is based on the true-life story of E. R. Braithwaite, a Guyanese-born English/American writer who served in the Royal Air Force during World War II and then gained his education at the City College of New York and his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge. Despite his exceptional skills and education--as a black man, he had a very difficult time finding a job in the work of his choosing. The racism of the time forced him to find work as a teacher in the East End of London.  Later he became a social worker and human rights advocate fighting racism and oppression. It is unclear how he felt about the 1967 adaptation which was written and directed by James Clavell who decided to jettison a subplot about interracial romance and focus more on the students.   The biggest reason for its film's success was the lead actor Sidney Poitier who was one of the most bankable stars of the 1960s and never really got his due for his box office appeal. He would go on the make millions from this film when the studio gave up on creating a more rough tale that included a sexual assault and/or a “big fight.” Poitier also appeared in the 1996 Sequel To Sir, With Love II.  So between the novel and the movie--which did we prefer? Have a listen and find out!  In this ep the Margos discuss: The biography of E.R. Braithwaite and his scholastic career  The author's experience in South Africa in the 1970s   The changes between the novel set in 1947 and the movie set in 1967  The cast: Sidney Poitier (Mr. Mark Thackery,) Judy Greeson (Pamela Dare,) Christian Roberts (Bert Denham,) Suzy Kendall (Miss Gillian Blanchard,) Lulu (Babs Pegg,) Geoffrey Bayldon (Mr. Theo Weston,) Patricia Routledge (Clinty Clintridge,) Edward Burnham (Mr. Florian,) and The Mindbenders (as themselves.)  Clips used: Behave like adults To Sir, With Love trailer Fight scene How ladies and men should behave Last scene with Lulu singing  It's Getting Harder All the Time  performed by The Mindbenders Book Vs Movie is part of the Frolic Podcast Network. Me pregunto dónde estará Laporta. Leo Messi looked rusty coming from the international break as Ousmane Dembele saved the day with a late goal. Valladolid came out and almost scored in the first ten minutes, but a great defensive game from Lengelet helped stop their attack. Griezmann was unable to convert on a header in the second half, and was soon replaced by Braithwaite. A red card on Jordi Alba helped reduce Valladolid to 10 men, leading to the great Dembele goal in the 89th minute.

Today there will be much talk of women in high places, power suits, high-heels, and history in the making. It’s monumental. It’s never been done before. The message of empowering women is good. But I believe women have always ruled the world. Creators and shapers of humanity long before politics. While I respect those climbing the rungs on the ladder of history, I hope my daughters remember that today nothing about womanhood has fundamentally changed. They have always had power to change the world. Our guest Tiffany Braithwaite taught this in a recent post on Facebook, Today she will take us further, helping us step into our divine role as women to be creators and shapers of humanity.Stay with us I believe you will be inspired. #peace, #joy, #faith, #family, #motherhood, #woman #christianity, #ComeuntoChrist, https://findingjoyandpeace.com/podcasts/Follow us on Facebook For inspiring quotes, and notices when other podcasts become available.https://www.facebook.com/findingjoyandpeacepodcastFor inspiring quotes, blog posts, and other podcasts subscribe at: findingjoyandpeace.com Support the show (https://findingjoyandpeace.com/)

Mogwai - "Ritchie Sacramento"from the 2021 album As the Love Continues on Temporary Residence Ltd. Today's Song of the Day gets its title from someone's mispronunciation of the name Ryuchi Sakamoto, famed Japanese composer. Scottish post-rock band Mogwai transformed the flub into a tribute for David Berman, the musician behind the Silver Jews who passed away in 2019.  “I was inspired by a story that Bob Nastanovich put online on the anniversary of the death of Dave Berman from Silver Jews,” frontman Stuart Braithwaite toldNME. “When they were students, Dave threw a shovel at a sports car. That’s the first line of the song: ‘Rise crystal spear’. Obviously Dave was an amazing poet, songwriter and musician. I took the lead from there. I wouldn’t pretend to be able to write songs as good as him, but he’s definitely a huge inspiration.” Braithwaite continued: “It’s been a hard few years. There are a lot of people that we played with and were friends with that just aren’t around now. This songs is about those people, imagined conversations… and Dave Berman throwing a shovel at a sports car!” Mogwai’s tenth album, As the Love Continues, will be out February 19th via Temporary Residence Ltd./Rock Action.  Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
