Beyond the Breakdown is back with Jacob ‘The Gowler' Gowler and Matt ‘The Allard' Allard getting properly stuck into the detail after a busy run of games.First up, a forensic look back at the Everton and Fulham matches – from Everton's super narrow shape trying to shut the Bees down, to Fulham's in-game tweaks that shifted the momentum. The lads dig into the numbers behind Brentford's finishing too – what's going right, what's not, and whether the data backs up what we're seeing with our eyesThere's also a proper stat attack on those late goals – just how often are the Bees conceding after 90 minutes, and is it a trend or just bad luck?Kevin Schade goes under the microscope as well. The Gowler pulls out the key metrics, while the pair chat tactics, roles, and what tweaks could get him more involved and more effective in this Brentford setupThen it's onto the bigger picture – European football. What actually happens to Premier League teams when they qualify? The research, the impact on league form, and how UEFA's stricter profitability and sustainability rules could shape decision-makingAnd the big question – is a season WITHOUT Europe actually better for the Bees? Finally, a look ahead to the next three fixtures. Manchester United and a focus on Bryan Mbeumo's season so far, West Ham and how Nuno's tactical approach might be exposed, and Manchester City – where, if anywhere, are the chinks in the armour?Stats, tactics, and proper football chat – this is Beyond the BreakdownThe research the chaps referred to on the podcast with regards Europe can be found here - https://www.researchgate.net/publication/329901699_Playing_in_the_UEFA_Europa_League_Does_Not_Adversely_Affect_English_Premier_League_or_La_Liga_Performancehttps://thedirectorsinbox.substack.com/p/why-premier-league-teams-will-beThe tweet Kieran Maguire referred to from the Swiss Ramble can be found herehttps://x.com/SwissRamble/status/2044685949074841742?s=20 Hosted on Acast. #987 | Ed and Tom discuss Manchester United's 3–1 win over Aston Villa, a strangely low-intensity match that still moved United closer to securing Champions League football. It might have started slowly, but United's second-half, shaped by Bruno Fernandes' brilliance, Casemiro's head, and Benjamin Sesko's ability off the bench, were enough to secure the points. It's a bit odd how slowly United start in these games under Carrick. Is the team undercooked or is it something more fundamental? With European football on the horizon, the conversation turns to summer needs - midfielders, fullbacks, a left-sided forward, and possibly a centre back. But will it be Carrick at the wheel? 00:00 Match Review: United 3-1 Aston Villa 04:02 Casimiro's Set Piece Quality 05:57 Bruno Fernandes: Best in the League 11:15 Sesko, Mbeumo and Wide Areas 15:46 Summer Transfers 25:54 Carrick: Right Man for United? 39:36 Squad Building 47:22 United's Financial Position 55:00 Wrap If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. What could be done to improve it?We also look back at the Bees' cup exit at the hands of West Ham United, reflecting on the disappointment of going out after the penalty shoot-outJonathan JB Burchill gives us more facts and a little bit of funkThe Gowler from Bees Breakdown gives the statistical and tactical lowdown on the forthcoming match against Wolverhampton WanderersPlus we chat to Dave from Talking Wolves who gives us the opposition view ahead of the clash with WolvesPlenty of chat. In this podcast I run through some of my early FPL thoughts ahead of Gameweek 25. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━
After the sixth successive gameweek with an average score of fewer than 50 points, it's hard not to feel a little discouraged; but still, we must trudge on with the hope that someday in the near future, we'll hop back over the fence to the good side of variance. Michael Carrick's spirited Manchester United narrowly beat Arsenal, who, it must be said, have failed to take full advantage of their trailers' recent slip-ups. Could the Red Devils' exciting trio of Bruno, Mbeumo, and Cunha prove to be the solution to this prevailing attacker drought? Might we also look at the blue side of London, where Rosenior's Chelsea have won five games on the bounce ahead of four bright green fixtures? With Haaland's dip in form, captaincy seems more open than it's been for most of this season—but are we brave enough to put our faith in Bruno, Enzo, or even Gabriel? Please also enjoy an important segment on Eli Junior Kroupi. Or is it just Junior Kroupi, as his Instagram account would suggest? Or maybe Kroupi.Jr, which is emblazoned on the back of his jersey—but doesn't the period usually go after the “Jr”?Follow us on Twitter: @FplFortress

Holiday Fixtures keep on rolling and we absolutely love it! A wacky matchday with 6 games on the 30th & 4 on the 1st filling out the full slate. All of the teams dealing with heavy workloads, AFCON absences and injuries but not worry Rob and Bryce break it all down for you. As always they gift you 2 plays a piece.

Joe presents key players to target for GW12 including Mateta, Salah, Mbeumo + more!
Tom F discusses his GW12 plans with Joe. They also debate Bruno vs Mbeumo and the best strikers under £8m.
It's perhaps fitting that the international break would fill our teams with flags. But even though I would consider myself an amateur vexillologist—at one point, I was able to identify nearly all the national flags in the world—I'm not loving the yellow flags that have appeared next to many of my players. The injury of most consequence seems to be Gabriel's—with him set to be out for 1–2 months, we must ask ourselves if we want to replace him with another Arsenal defender or look elsewhere. With a rather delectable fixture run ahead, Manchester United midfielders look quite attractive. But aside from the well-discussed trio of Mbeumo, Bruno, and Cunha, Jiayang tosses another name into the ring: Amad Diallo. Currently embroiled in his Critical Approaches to Art History course, Jiayang also brings up the art-historical methodology of connoisseurship, specifically the elusive “Sense of Quality” that art historian Bernard Berenson tantalizingly alludes to at the end of his 1902 essay, “Rudiments of Connoisseurship.” Jacob, hearing the idea for only the first time, applies it beautifully to the context of soccer—just what is it about Amad that makes him a player of such “Quality”? What are the indicators of Quality for different positions? Finally, we examine a few mid-table teams whose fortunes either have shifted recently, are in the process of shifting, or seem destined to shift imminently.Follow us on Twitter: @FplFortress
What's up everyone and welcome back to Unseen Incidents. This week we're asking whether Manchester United have turned the corner and are finally good - or at least ok - again. We dig deep into their style and personnel under Amorim, and discuss how much the coach has changed, and what worries us about the adaptations that are currently working for the Red Devils, as well as the next steps required for the project. Then we open up the Burn Book, which this week includes mice, Lily Allen, and chewing gum. If you enjoy the pod, consider subscribing at Patreon.com/patrickvs!

A good week to have a bad week? Probably. But for FPL managers who started any of Joe Rodon, Bryan Mbeumo or 23 point scoring Micky Van De Ven it was probably a good week. Suj and James even managed to sell one of the few other popular players who hit a double digit return, in Pedro Porro, who assisted one of Van De Ven's two in Tottenham's 3-0 win at Everton. But was the win as good as the scoreline suggests? All the games reviewed as the three promoted clubs all won, struggling West and Wolves were two of those on the wrong end of those results, while Chelsea were surprisingly beaten by high flying Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool lost again, this time at Brentford, and Manchester City were beaten too at Aston Villa, whilst Arsenal extended their lead with victory over Crystal Palace. Eagles assets will be popular this week, as will again Arsenal players, and Mbeumo will also be popular having scored twice in Manchester United's victory against Brighton which means they've now won three in a row. #890 | Ed and Dominic discuss Manchester United slow movement in the transfer market, including ongoing negotiations for Bryan Mbeumo. There is a lot of frustration with the club's strategy amongst the fanbase, including the challenge of offloading players like Rashford, Sancho, and Garnacho, and its impact on United's pre-season preparations. The conversation also ponders the tactical adjustments that may be needed if United cannot secure Mbeumo, especially in the midfield, to ensure a strong start to the Premier League season. With pre-season matches against starting this weekend, there's also a conversation about the role of youngsters in the squad. Finally, there's speculation about potential changes in United's goalkeeping department with Andre Onana injured. 00:00 Introduction 01:37 Transfer Frustrations and Negotiations 03:41 Preseason Preparations and Squad Analysis 05:45 Financial Constraints and Transfer Market Challenges 13:12 Player Sales 24:17 Expectations for the Upcoming Season 29:38 Midfield Dynamics 33:17 Youth Prospects and Preseason Opportunities 40:20 Goalkeeper Dilemmas 47:58 Preseason Expectations 51:26 Closing Remarks If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. The longest day has come and gone but we are now deep into silly season, the transfer-rumour-ridden hinterland that chases the end of the previous season out of town.Manchester United may or may not have made an improved bid for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, and may or may not have had a discussion with the representatives of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
