The BarcaBreakdown is back with an FC Barcelona vs. Real Sociedad Copa Del Rey Quarter Finals preview. In their first meeting this season, Barca won 4-1 against La Real after a huge Ansu Fati substitution turned the game early in the season.
Barcelona beat Getafe 1-0 on Sunday to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Pedri got the game's only goal but it was not Barça's best performance of the season. Sam, Rik and Toni discuss why that might have been the case, look at the front line of Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha and reveal some high-profile footballers who were among the Camp Nou crowd. They also look ahead to Wednesday's big Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Real Sociedad. Support the show
In today's episode of Barca Talk, we discuss Copa del Rey and Femení. Barca defeated Ceuta 5-0 in the Copa del Rey round of 16, with goals from Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, and Ansu Fati. Xavi rested his key players and gave squad players game time. Angel Alarcon made his debut for the team in the match. Barca will now face Real Sociedad in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey at Camp Nou. In the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup, FC Barcelona Femení defeated Real Madrid and will now face Real Sociedad for the title. The teams were level after 90 minutes, but Barca won in extra time with goals from Claudia Pina, Mariona, and Salma Paralluelo. Join Our Patreon Community! Barca Buzz TV is back with FC Barcelona beating AD Cueta to reach the Copa Del Rey Quarter Finals. Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Frank Kessie, and Ansu Fati all scored to help Xavi's men continue their string of good performances. Thankfully, Xavi was able to rest Frenkie De Jong, Ousmane Dembele, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde for the full 90 minutes, with a La Liga game against Getafe looming this Sunday. Real Madrid is 3 points behind, so it is crucial for Barca to rest players when possible in the coming months.
Lewandowski, Raphinha, Ansu Fati y Kessie pusieron el 0-5 definitivo y le dieron al FC Barcelona el billete a los cuartos de final de la Copa del Rey. Así te lo contamos en Carrusel Deportivo.

Sam and Rik were at Camp Nou on Saturday as Barcelona ended 2022 with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Espanyol. Marcos Alonso gave Barça the lead in the Catalan derby, but Joselu's penalty earned Espanyol a point before referee Mateu Lahoz took centre stage. After the game, Sam and Rik discussed the performance, Raphinha and Ansu Fati concerns, the Lahoz circus, Lewandowski's on hold ban and more. Happy New Year and here's to a Siempre Positivo 2023!
The BarcaBreakdown is back with a match review of FC Barcelona's 1-1 draw against Espanyol, featuring goals by Marcus Alonso and Joselu. Xavi's Barca returned after the World Cup (won by Lionel Messi!!) and immediately entered a derby versus Espanyol marred by the awful officiating from Mateu Lahoz. We did see Xavi rest some players who recently came back from international duty, such as Kounde and Dembele from France, as well as Araujo not featuring as he slowly gets reintegrated with the team after injury recovery. The first half saw FC Barcelona apply the most pressure, culminating with the Alonso goal assisted by Christensen. However, we did see ineffective play from Ansu Fati and Raphinha. Xavi decided to use Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Gavi in the midfield, a continuation of the last few games where we have seen Busquets slowly lose his place as an every game starter. The second half was a Lahoz fiest, filled with a double-yellow red card for Jordi Alba, with both cards occurring within 5 minutes of each other. Espanyol also received the 2 reds, though one was rescinded after a VAR review. Barcelona are now level on points with Real Madrid for the La Liga lead, though Barca currently have the lead on goal difference. https://www.youtube.com/@BarcaBuzzTV

On episode 414, Dan and Mike Crimmins (@ColoradoFCB) discuss the doubt that Laporta and Cruyff have delivered about January transfers. They talk Gerard Pique coming off the books, a potential Memphis transfer, Ansu Fati with Spain, and much more! Running Order: Will there seriously be no January transfers?
The BarcaBreakdown discuss Ronald Araujo's call up for the World Cup with Uruguay after recovering from thigh surgery. FC Barcelona must not be too happy with Araujo playing, as we experienced Samuel Umtiti hurting his knee permanently playing for France (and winning) in 2018. However, Araujo already had surgery and is recovering quicker than expected, which hopefully helps reduce any chance of injury. Here are the other Barca players at the World Cup 2022: Spain: Eric Garcia, Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Busquets, Ferran Torres, and Jordi Alba France: Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde Denmark: Eric Christensen Poland: Robert Lewandowski Brazil: Raphinha Netherlands: Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay Germany: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

Sam, Rik and Toni discuss Barcelona's 1-0 win over Valencia, which moved Xavi Hernandez's side within one point of leaders Real Madrid, who slipped up against Girona. That is now 38 LaLiga games in charge for Xavi and, despite the Champions League failings, he's secured enough points to win a league title in an 'ordinary' season, although maybe not in an exceptional one, which this one is shaping up to be. Also covered on the latest episode of the podcast is Ansu Fati's form as he turns 20, a trip to Viktoria Plzen or a trip to the circus, Toni's betting habit, stingy Englishmen and Vincent Kompany's Burnley (brought up by Toni, not Sam!)Support the show
Mark and Payton review the titular game that has continued the downward spiral for Barcelona during the last week (00:21), as Barcelona fail in their quest to stay atop the La Liga table. We examine why Real triumphed and Barcelona failed, including some curious lineup decisions by Xavi, and the late substitutions that (almost) resulted in a point for the Blaugrana. Plus, Payton discusses Xavi's suddenly precarious position as we fire up the Sack-o-Meter (42:25), and looks ahead to a critical game against always-tough Villareal (53:12). Also, Mark reviews Real's surprisingly interesting game against Elche (48:23), and hopes for more smooth sailing for Real Madrid in Saturday's fixture against a surprisingly poor Sevilla team (59:24).
The FC crew debate whether or not Vinicius Junior should stop celebrating goals and show-boating for fear of retribution ahead of this weekend's Madrid derby at Atletico Madrid. Plus, was Ansu Fati's ommission from the Spanish National Team justified? And should Antonio Conte drop Son Heung-Min from Tottenham's starting XI? Learn more about your ad choices. Teenagers are fleeting - one minute past their 20th birthday, and they're gone into the big wide world of everyday footballers - so we have to give them their due whilst we can. And it seems only yesterday that we were punctuating this list with Ryan Gravenberch, Nuno Mendes - and even Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. But the seasons flow, players grow and new wonderkids wind up on the block every single season, so it's time to put them in order for 2022. We talk a host of names, from a Barcelona cohort including Ansu Fati, Gavi and reigning title-holder Pedri, Eduardo Camavinga, Borussia Dortmund's latest gems off the production line, Harvey Elliott (how is he still elegible?!), Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and many more. Sam also chucks in a big prediction for this season for each of his top five. Things We Love focuses on Graham Potter's rise to the top table of European football management, a rake of late moments for the big guns in Serie A, and Sporting's recovery after a tough start to the season - with some love for some names who were maybe in danger of slipping into unfulfilled promise territory. There's a Melon of the Week out of Turin (or multiple, being frank) and we do a quick draft to select our teams that we'll focus on for the upcoming 2022 World Cup. It's Ranks!
