Born an African princess, she lived the majority of her life as slave, then slaveowner after she was sold as a child. As she grew to hold the confidence and admiration of the man she would call both Master and Husband, she earned her freedom and land of her own. Navigating the turbulent times of early 1800s Spanish Florida, she saw her life burn to the ground multiple times - once, she held the match herself. The name given to her was Anna Madgigine Jai Kingsley. But before all that, she was Anta Majigeen Ndiaye.

Nandy is one of the most decorated artists out of Tanzania in recent times. That was cemented after her 2018 album titled The African Princess and she has been known as royalty in East African music circles because if her voice is on a track, there's every chance it turns to gold. Nandy just dropped a new EP titled “Taste EP” on June 18th, 2021 and I'm here for it… Here's the review.
Adé and I have had our little GIRL!!! Meet Adekunbi!!!
She's one of the most compelling new acts on any continent, raised between Accra and Atlanta. Through her music, Amaarae confronts the narrow definitions of womanhood. The quintessential African princess of pop speaks to Eve Jackson about her genre-defying album "The Angel You Don't Know", being at the forefront of a group of African artists, including Burna Boy, who are waking us up to the fact that Africa is setting the global tempo for pop music and why she refuses to be boxed in.

Eight Princesses and a Magic Mirror by Natasha Farrant Narrated by Becky King Here are eight princesses for the Rebel Girls generation: bold, empowered, full of curiosity, adventure and determined to be true to themselves. Natasha Farrant's original stories are set in different times all around the world, blending modern and traditional. 'Mirror, mirror on the wall... what makes a princess excellent?' When the enchantress flings her magic mirror into our universe, reflected in it are princesses who refuse to be pretty, polite or obedient. These are girls determined to do the rescuing themselves. The Arabian princess of the desert protects her people from the king with the black and gold banner; Latin American Princess, Tica, takes a crocodile for a pet; a Scottish princess explores the high seas; African Princess, Abayome, puts empathy and kindness above being royal; and in a tower-block, Princess saves her precious community garden from the hands of urban developers. Complemented by detailed, jewel-coloured artwork, these beautifully imagined stories are a twist on familiar princess tales.

As a first-generation West Indian born in London myself, I too fall victim to this strange phenomenon. Occasionally, a reader from Russia or as happened this week from Estonia will contact me and I'll think to myself “How on earth did black people get there?” Yea I know it’s dumb, but if you catch me on a miserable Monday morning, I’m liable to think anything. So, more to remind me than to educate anyone else that we are a global people, this particular slice of history is from Poland via Germany. Let me introduce you to Miss Lala also know as, Olga Kaira, “Olga the Mulatto”, “Olga the Negress”, “The Venus of the Tropics”, “The Cannon Woman” and “The African Princess.” Miss Lala was born Anna Olga Albertina Brown to Wilhelm Brown and Marie Christine Borchardt, on April 21, 1858, in the former German (but now Polish) city of Stettin (Szczecin). Miss Lala though possessed incredible strength, an all-around circus performer she worked at various times as a wire walker, trapeze artist, hand balancer, strong woman and incredibly enough an iron jaw performer. She first appeared in the circus aged 9 and found fame aged 21 in France. She toured around Europe eventually finding her way to London where she performed at the Royal Aquarium and Manchester's Gaiety Theatre. Lala was part of the troupe called Folies Bergère and the Keziah Sisters. She partnered with another strength acrobat called Theophila Szterker/Kaira la Blanche. Together they were known as Les Deux Papillons (The two butterflies). Are 'Friends Electric? - Episode 18 - The African Princess by Oliver Rockside
Rock and Roll started out as an interracial forum, but Slate’s pop critic Jack Hamilton says rock turned into a predominantly white music genre, and he’s piecing together why. Also: The history of the great American game of baseball represents all the paradoxes of race relations in our country. Johnny Moore studies the surprising shift from the 1920’s, when baseball held an important place within the black community, to today, where that place lies in the NBA. Later in the show: The late Julian Bond conducted 51 extensive interviews with prominent black leaders in America. Phyllis Leffler, who led the project with Bond, has written a book on the series that offers insights into the intractable disparities of race in America. Also: In the 1940’s Fatima Massaquoi penned one of the earliest known autobiographies by an African woman. Arthur Abraham is one of three editors of The Autobiography of an African Princess, which traces Fatima’s life from her youth in Africa to her later years in America.

And: Twitter is speeding up communication about racial incidents. May 8, 2014. Vivian Seton spoke about the publication of her mother's memoirs. Born to an African king in colonial Sierra Leone at the beginning of the 20th century, Princess Fatima Massaquoi lived an extraordinary life that encapsulated the contradictions, upheavals and unprecedented opportunities of her time. Beginning with her lovingly recounted memories of growing up in Liberia, it follows her to Hamburg, Germany, where she pursued an education and forged friendships, but also experienced the racism, terror, and nationalistic fervor that accompanied the Nazis' rise to power. Speaker Biography: Vivian Seton is the daughter and only child of Fatima Massaquoi. In the 1970s and 1980s she worked as a producer, writer and broadcaster in Liberia.
