Since Scientology gave birth to Silva Mind Control, Leadership or Mind Dynamics and est, in the 1960s, there has been an industry in 'large group awareness trainings' (LGATs), including The Forum, Landmark Education, Lifespring and Tony Robbins. Wikipedia tells us LGATs 'may compromise participants' mental wellbeing'. Dr John Hunter realized that the LGAT he attended at his boss's request claimed the symptoms of hypomania (excessive elation) as 'transformations'. After two decades of research, John has published an excellent book suggesting that LGATs and many other forms of conversion use stress and humiliation to generate the brain's reward chemical dopamine which is then released in a gush of elation - hypomania. Studies have shown that these euphoric states are transient and often result in broken marriages and careers as well as mental breakdowns and even psychosis.John's new book is a vital insight into the ways in which even highly intelligent people's critical thinking is bypassed. He argues that many religious conversions may be based in this simple neurological process. Cory Katuna is a vibrant and influential figure in the world of personal development and spiritual growth. As an IPC-trained professional coach and the co-founder of The Light Touch, Cory has dedicated her career to facilitating transformative experiences. Through her work, she offers a range of impactful mentorships, retreats, and workshops, including the popular Breakthrough Boot Camp. Additionally, Cory extends her reach and impact by co-hosting the "Mirror Talks" podcast, a platform that further showcases her commitment to guiding individuals toward truth, self-realization, and service. Her efforts in these areas have not only garnered her recognition but have also made a substantial difference in the lives of many. We highly encourage everyone to explore her podcast and consider subscribing for a deeper dive into her insightful discussions.   In a recent episode on  Higher Density Living, Cory shared insights into her personal journey and the evolution of her spiritual practices. Interestingly, she recounted a period where she explored veganism and engaged in what she initially perceived as consumeristic spiritual practices. This phase of experimentation and exploration was crucial in her path towards genuine spirituality. Cory's transition from exploring superficial layers of spirituality to embracing a more authentic and profound connection with her spiritual self-highlights a common journey many face. The distinction she makes between "fake" spirituality and a more genuine, deeply-rooted practice provides a fascinating glimpse into her evolution as both an individual and a professional coach. Cory's story serves as an inspiration for those navigating their own spiritual paths, encouraging a shift from external validations to inner truth and growth.   Before delving into spirituality, her journey was deeply entrenched in his university days at the University of Colorado Boulder, a place celebrated for its unique mix of hippie and entrepreneurial vibes. It was in this environment that she found himself drawn to the nascent stages of what is now widely recognized as wokeism. This period in her life was marked by a passionate advocacy for a plethora of progressive causes, including anti-patriarchy, anti-capitalism, feminism, anti-white supremacy, veganism, and environmentalism. His commitment to these causes was so profound that he even spearheaded a group trip from New York to participate in a climate march, the details of which might be fuzzy now, but the fervor she felt at the time is still vivid.   At that time, Cory was utterly convinced of the righteousness of her beliefs to the extent that considered anyone who disagreed to be ignorant, naive, and part of the problem. This conviction was so robust that he distinctly remembers a conversation with his father where he expressed incredulity that anyone could possibly question these ideals. Her father, employing the Socratic method, challenged him to scrutinize the weaknesses in his arguments, a process that began to plant seeds of doubt in his previously unassailable beliefs.   This unwavering belief in wokeism persisted for a couple of years until a significant shift occurred when he began to delve deeper into the concept of personal responsibility. This exploration signified the start of his spiritual journey, greatly influenced by Landmark Education, an entity renowned for its personal development programs. This transition was not abrupt but was a gradual evolution that took place alongside his professional life. Addressing the specific context of false beliefs among women, and by extension in coed environments through programs like the Breakthrough Boot Camp and Living True Mentorship, it's evident that certain misconceptions persistently emerge, especially within Western culture. These beliefs often revolve around self-worth, the right to speak and be heard, and the internalized pressure to conform to societal expectations that dictate a woman's role and value.   This period of introspection and development led her to recognize the distinct paths her life was taking—straddling the intensity of her activism and her burgeoning interest in fostering a positive organizational culture. It became evident that these were not mutually exclusive paths but rather complementary facets of her journey towards grasping the intricate dynamic between societal change and personal growth. Her early advocacy for social issues set the stage for a more extensive exploration of how to elicit the best in people, both in the broader societal context and within the microcosm of the workplace.   Reflecting on a transformative moment in her life was deeply influenced by prior engagement with the concepts of responsibility and victim mentality. This understanding came to fruition during my tenure at a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth. We organized extensive trainings in New York and globally, aiming to nurture a new generation of activists equipped to challenge patriarchy, white supremacy, and capitalism.   The training sessions we organized were designed to be inclusive and transformative. We welcomed a diverse group of young individuals, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences. Initially, our activities, such as exercises intended to air grievances and identify microaggressions, seemed promising. However, what started as an attempt to foster unity and understanding quickly devolved into division and discomfort. Participants formed cliques, engaged in blame-shifting, and struggled with guilt over their identities and the historical actions of their ancestors. This was especially evident when participants from backgrounds associated with historical oppression, like a girl from the UK, felt overwhelming guilt simply for their national heritage.   This turning point was a stark realization for me. Witnessing the retreat's atmosphere deteriorate from hopeful collaboration to a breeding ground for guilt and division made me question the direction of our efforts. It became clear that the path we were on was not leading towards the freedom, awakening, unity, or the resolution of political issues we had envisioned. Instead, it was exacerbating the problems we sought to address. This epiphany led Cory to resign from my position within weeks, recognizing the need for a new approach.   The experience underscored the dangers inherent in diving too deeply into ideologies that emphasize victimhood and microaggressions without offering a path forward. It reminded me of historical instances where fear and suspicion led to irrational accusations and societal divisions, such as witch hunts or the demonization of the 'other' for personal misfortunes. This reflection has significantly informed my coaching philosophy, emphasizing the importance of moving beyond victimhood to empower individuals to live authentically and with purpose. It's a reminder that while acknowledging pain and injustice is crucial, fostering resilience, understanding, and proactive change is equally important for individual growth and societal progress. Moreover, ideologies underscores the idea of victimhood, self-pity, and the transformative power of facing triggers in personal development and coaching. Victimhood encompasses any state of mind that deviates from feeling completely free and whole, often manifesting through insecurities or a reluctance to embrace one's full potential. The approach to addressing this involves encouraging individuals to fully express their feelings of victimhood, thereby exposing its inherent contradictions and lack of a solid foundation. This process is not about agreement but about challenging the person to delve deeper into their experiences and beliefs, facilitating a self-deconstruction of their victim mentality.   The discussion then shifts to the concept of triggers, which are viewed as opportunities rather than obstacles. Triggers are described as access points to underlying false beliefs and narratives that individuals hold about themselves, such as feelings of unworthiness or unlovability. The strategy involves confronting these triggers head-on, not through therapeutic regression to their origins, but by examining and challenging the beliefs that give them power. This approach is likened to alchemy or spiritual transformation, where confronting and resolving these beliefs can lead to rapid healing and personal growth. The underlying message is that healing and overcoming victimhood and triggers is not as daunting as it is often made out to be. It emphasizes the potential for rapid transformation through the direct confrontation and resolution of the beliefs underlying personal triggers. This process is portrayed as accessible and straightforward, challenging the notion that deep, personal change requires extensive therapy or is inherently difficult, with the right approach, individuals can quickly move past their limitations, transforming their challenges into opportunities for growth.   Gender dynamics also play a compelling role in psychological patterns among many women: an underlying inferiority complex that paradoxically manifests itself as a form of superiority or dismissiveness. This defensive posture can take various forms, such as annoyance at seemingly trivial matters or an over compensatory feminist stance that lacks humor and polices the behavior of others. These reactions are not merely expressions of personal preference or ideological commitment but are indicative of deeper feelings of insecurity and a need for safety in social contexts.   The move towards adopting what are traditionally seen as masculine traits—such as overt anger, a rejection of motherhood in favor of career progression, or the emulation of male work patterns—is another manifestation of this complex. It's suggested that these behaviors might be protective mechanisms, a way for women to navigate a world where they feel constantly vulnerable. This vulnerability is not necessarily about physical safety, though that can be a component, but is more about social insecurity: a fear of not being seen, validated, loved, or free to be oneself.   This issue is further compounded by the pressures of social media and societal expectations, where women often feel they must present a version of themselves that is inauthentic or exaggerated to be accepted or respected. The suggested remedy lies not in adopting a persona or compensating for perceived inadequacies but in embracing one's authentic self. Engaging in activities that truly interest and fulfill, expressing one's genuine thoughts and feelings, and allowing for natural expressions of identity can lead to a more nourishing and positive experience of the world. Thus, the path to overcoming these insecurities is through authenticity and self-regulation. By relaxing into their natural selves and engaging in what genuinely draws and nourishes them, women can create a more positive feedback loop for themselves. This shift away from a "tense compensation loop" towards genuine self-expression and self-acceptance is crucial. It underscores the universal need for individuals to confront internal voids and seek fulfillment through authenticity rather than through external validation or mimicry of perceived norms.   Authenticity is central to both relationships and spiritual growth, fostering a natural overflow of generosity and love. In our mentorship programs, we stress that authentic alignment with oneself is the bedrock of genuine acts of kindness and service, devoid of expectations. In romantic relationships, there's a fine line between idealizing our partners and embracing their true essence. When we impose our expectations onto them, we're consuming rather than creating a genuine connection. True surrender in relationships entails cooperation and honesty, rooted in mutual purity.   Yet, maintaining authenticity poses challenges in today's digital age, where filters and personas often obscure true identities. It requires introspection and courage to confront the illusions we create, both online and offline, as we strive to align with our deepest truths and transcend societal norms.   Exploring the hierarchy of truth reveals layers ranging from empirical evidence to spiritual enlightenment. While the emotional guidance system offers insights into how emotions shape our perception, true self-realization surpasses all illusions, leading us to a nondual truth beyond conceptual frameworks. The more genuine you are, the higher vibrational frequency, bringing  closer to self-realization. Awakening experiences tend to occur in peak states, underscoring the vital role of authenticity in spiritual evolution. As we delve further into this exploration, we become committed to unraveling the intricacies of authenticity and truth, recognizing their intertwined nature in the pursuit of self-realization. On this episode of And I Quote: Ryan talk with autistic leadership coach, Rob Hodes of My Autism Gifts. We'll also be taking your questions! Rob Hodes grew up in Long Island, NY with undiagnosed Autism. When he was learning to speak during childhood he could only say vowels, not consonants. He had very few friends and was bullied incessantly as his stuttering continued until his late teens. He had very low self-esteem, self-confidence, depression, an inability to maintain relationships and a deep distrust of other people and life in general. He didn't know then that many of those things were symptoms of Autism. In 1984 he was "sick of the rat race" and started taking personal development courses. He's taken courses from Tony Robbins, Toastmasters International, Peak Potentials, Landmark Education, Dave Ramsey, Michael Beckwith, A Course in Miracles and many others. This was an investment in learning about the roadblocks he'd created himself, roadblocks that kept him from living his life to its fullest potential. A lifetime of misinformation took thousands of hours of education to assist him in communicating with confidence, rebuilding his self-confidence and self-esteem, and healing numerous internal wounds he collected along the way. He accomplished this by 1) Asking himself the proper questions which unraveled the many interconnected parts to reconstruct his self-confidence/self-esteem etc. 2) Learning how to connect with others so they trusted him and HIS leadership. At Toastmasters International (TI) after he mastered how to communicate with conviction, he led two different clubs to earn the highest award that TI offered its clubs within the same year! Neither club had earned any awards from TI the year before.Rebuilding HIMSELF has led to HIS life's passion of assisting others to achieve things that they thought were unachievable. His personal mission statement is to inspire individuals on the Autism Spectrum to defy societal labeling by taking strategic action to achieve their goals and dreams by using their unique gifts by authentically sharing HIS life story. Before 1984 misperceptions and bullies led to devastating self-doubt and an extremely limiting self-image and self-worth that was not authentic. Now he has the power of infinite self-worth and dreams without limits that he brings to others.Follow Rob Hodes on Social Media:Website: https://www.myautismgifts.com/Follow Ryan on Social Media:Linktree: https://linktr.ee/ryanandiquote Make Sure to LIKE, COMMENT, & SUBSCRIBE!Nerd Culture MERCH!!! www.nerdculture.threadless.comHWWS NC Merch - https://hwwswebtv.threadless.com/designDONATE to our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/itsnerdcultureFollow:Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/itsnerdculture/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itsnerdcultureTwitter :https://twitter.com/itsNerdCultureFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/itsnerdculture

Returning to the dating scene middle-aged and post-divorce can be terrifying for most. But Paul Aaron Travis has been on over 100 dates and counting – the experience proving to be fruitful and life-changing. He shares with us his advice for individuals like him about letting go of expectations, authenticity vs intimacy, tracking your dates and potential partners, and finding your partner through effective questioning. Tune in to this episode: Dating After 40 with Paul Aaron Travis. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Utilize helpful tools. Paul recommends attending gatherings such as his Singles Salon, follow a blueprint like his 40-Plus Dating Reset, and use a dating log to list key details of your dates, such as: Last time they contacted you How long you've been dating Any red or green flags ✔️ Authenticity vs. Intimacy. Although interconnected, they are different. Authenticity is presenting who you really are to the world and how you live. Intimacy is being genuine within to allow others to enter your world. ✔️ Do a vibration check. Consider why you're dating in the first place. Then, don't rush the process of meeting new people. As we are experiencing collective anxiety about the future, it's important to choose someone who strikes the right chords. ✔️ There is power in questions. People who've had bad breakups and bad dates may feel cynical. But engaging in deep conversations with your dates can help change your mind. Listen to their dreams, dealbreakers, what turns them on, and what doesn't. Don't let your fear win over meeting your potential partner. ✔️ Practice detachment. Letting go of expectations can help you be more vulnerable and cushion the pain during rejections. Be open to whatever can happen. You may meet a new best friend or someone that can benefit from your knowledge or support. ———————————————————————————————— Paul Aaron Travis's commitment to making dating joyful, respectful, expansive, and consensual comes from extensive training in interpersonal relations - from Nonviolent Communication to the Wheel of Consent, from Landmark Education to Human Awareness International, from Body Electric to ISTA/Tantra. For years, Paul co-facilitated the Seattle Men's Wisdom Council, working with hundreds of men every month. In the years since his divorce, he has dated 100 women – mostly first dates which didn't yield sufficient chemistry to continue yet helped him create the technique he now teaches that manifested three wonderful, multi-year relationships. In this episode Ariel is joined by Cindy Karmin, an amazing woman with decades of experience in entrepreneurship and leadership, teaching us about the power of resistance. Cindy mentioned the wisdom from the books Love, Medicine and Miracles, Bernie Segal and Illusions by Richard Bach: "What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the butterfly calls the beginning." Jim Roan: "You only grow to the extent of your personal development." Cindy has taken transformational courses like the Forum with Landmark Education and PSI courses through PsiWorld and has studied with Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra. Accept that you are human, and, "Now what?" "Dream big, act small." "Don't accept where you are if you don't like it." "What don't I like; what do I want?" "Find the people who have done what you want to do and follow them; ask them questions." – Tony Robbins "You are okay. Relax. You will find a way. You are strong and resilient and life will work out. Life may not look the way you thought we wanted, but it could be better."   KEY TAKEAWAYS I'm at a stage in my life where I'm living beyond my wildest dreams. I'm financially whole, I'm healthy in body, mind and spirit, I'm at peace, and I'm grateful for all the challenges and the blessings that have been bestowed upon me. When I was 55 – which is 21 years ago – I found myself really scared, I was broke, I was broken, I couldn't sleep at night because the company I'd been with for 9 years was falling apart. I honestly didn't know how I was going to survive. I realised I wanted to become a healthy and wealthy woman, so I searched and found a company I could believe in, but starting over at 55 wasn't easy. In 1992 I got breast cancer and I got scared. But then I looked at who else had something like this. At that time there were only books and tapes available, so I went right to Barnes & Noble and bought a book called Love, Medicine and Miracles. He said to me: “Cindy, cancer is not a death sentence and, you're not going to believe this but, it's going to be your biggest gift.” I read a lot of books by people who had survived cancer and I really had to dig deep to see what I could do to overcome the situation. I think you have to know where you are. Look at the awful condition you're actually in rather than living by pretty words and non-existent ideals. I write down all the things I don't like about my life and then I take a pencil and a piece of paper and I draw a line down the middle, then I write what I really want and create an intention around specific areas. I always visualise the perfect end result: Where do I want to be, and then I take action. I don't accept life the way it shows up, I always want to make it better. I have a motto that I know I stole from somebody: Dream big, act small. People get bored with the small, consistent actions we need to take to get there, I love the process and I'm grateful for the challenges that life has given me because that has made me strong and resilient.    BEST MOMENTS “You may have fears and doubts, we all live with them, but I just said despite my fear I had to take the actions I needed.” “I wasn't an overnight success, but I knew where I needed to go and it took me three years to go from broke to having a six-figure income.” “You've got to do personal development: You only grow to the extent of your personal development. I'm 76 but my goal is to be healthy to 100.” “I make myself wrong but then I forgive myself and I accept that I'm human. Now what?”   ABOUT THE GUEST Cindy Karmin has been an entrepreneur empowering people to achieve their goals in home-based businesses for over 40 years. Melissa Llarena stepped off the corporate track and became an entrepreneur after becoming a mom and not being able to find adequate childcare. She doesn't feel like a “pure working mom,” but she doesn't feel like a stay-at-home mom, either. This “in between” status means she's carving out her own path, which requires energy to create the path, in addition to simply walking it. If there's any “crisis” to Melissa's midlife, it's more answering the question: am I going to do what I thought I was meant to do? To celebrate, she climbed the Harbour Bridge, even though she's afraid of heights. An iconic tourist destination, the climb is safe, but scary. She was chasing the butterfly feeling in her stomach. She believes that her moments of greatest growth have been the ones when she's got butterflies or big nerves.  She asked herself: what can I do to celebrate turning 40 and up the ante that is in integrity with who I am or who I tell the world that I am?  Melissa tells herself and the world that she is courageous. So climbing the Harbour Bridge became the idea that was bad-ass, kind of risky, but not crazy, that made that moment super memorable and was culturally relevant to where she was at the time. But as epic as it was, while she was ascending creaky wooden plank stairs and looking at the cars parked below her, she wondered why she chose this particular celebration and not something more….comfortable.  Mapping Out Where She's BeenAs she approached 40, Melissa started to map out her life, decade by decade, on Post-It notes stuck to her wall. Milestones each got a Post-It.  In her 30's, Melissa became a mom. She got into the labor room for her first-born and realized “I can't' do this.” But what do you do at that point? You power through.   After she had her son, she left corporate America because she didn't have childcare she trusted. So she became an entrepreneur and started to build a business. That got a Post-It.  Leaving corporate America came with trade-offs that she had to work through. She had to let go of the idea of having a dream house because that came with financial obligations that could only be met with the corporate job.  Then she became pregnant with identical twins and, even though it was a single event, they each got their own Post-It. With no history of twins on either side of their family, they were pretty shocked to learn...

Listen for their greatness. Listen for their strengths. Listen for their commitment for the positive intention behind their words. Timing on Recording: @ 7:14  --- Topic 2: How does it help you serve others when you take a stand for their greatness? When we stretch ourselves, there's going be a point in which we waver or wobble, the key is to not get sucked into the wobble, stay focused and be a reminder of their vision. Timing on Recording: @ 8:50  --- Topic 3: How did you get so strong and oriented this way? (Activating greatness) What can others do to change the tendency to say, “I did this wrong?” The first thing that comes to mind is what's wrong, what's not working right. Your first thought is not always your best thought. It's easier with clients than it is with family, positive distance. “Your only agenda is that I'm happy and successful.” Timing on Recording: @ 11:26  --- Topic 4: What are some of the things that you say to yourself or that you help others do to make sure that their agenda is first and foremost? You aren't successful if you aren't happy too. Don't get sucked into their story of why they can't do something. Keep their commitment and their vision in mind. Affirm their strengths, even when they don't see them themselves. Empower people. Clear parameters. Set an end result. Clear communication. The commitment and vision behind the words are more important than the words. Timing on Recording: @ 16:49  --- Topic 5: A different way of listening. Be absolutely present in the moment. Turn off all the distractions. Listen to what they're saying, not what you want to say next. Listen with all of you. Distinguish between what your head is saying and what your gut or your intuition is saying. Appreciate more. Timing on Recording: @ 30:00  --- Topic 6: How to get out of the problem. You can't be in the energy of the problem and find the solution from there. Set a time limit. Talk about the problem, complain about it, go neutral and then move towards a solution. “Don't want.” Timing on Recording: @ 33:33  --- Topic 7: Reasons it is hard to listen and activate greatness. Super busy. Impatient. Juggling multiple objectives. We have an agenda. We're attached to our solution versus being attached to the outcome. Timing on Recording: @ 35:32  --- Topic 8: How being humble ties with acknowledging strengths or not acknowledging strengths. Opposite of humble: Arrogant. Healthy competence. But vs. And. Ask to give a suggestion. Timing on Recording: @ 42:05  --- Topic 9: Secret to affirming strengths while giving feedback on improvements. Make a request for change, not a demand. Ask permission for feedback. Don't use telling language. “You're not really serving somebody if you don't also tell them how they can do better.” Timing on Recording: @ 46:38  --- Topic 10: Who influenced you to your greatness? What did they say? Landmark Education Seminar Leader, Doug. He refused to see me as my “little self,” and challenged me, he saw me as bigger than my problems. Lovingly, but firmly challenge someone. Timing on Recording: @ 50:49  --- Topic 11: What books or training programs have been most instrumental to your development? Landmark Education training program. Coach University. Mindset training. Teaching of Abraham Hicks. Timing on Recording: @ 52:55  --- Topic 12: When you think of the word successful, who's the first person that comes to mind? Suzie Price. Successful to me, means happy, we can be successful in the terms of the trappings in life, what is our position in life, how much money we're making, all those kinds of things that people typically call success, and for me, success is my ability to move through life happy, doing work that I want to do, making a difference in people's lives and doing it from a space of a happy, energetic being. Timing on Recording: @ 54:07  --- Topic 13: Getting to know Denise Hedges. Favorite guilty pleasure TV Show: “So, you think you can dance?” A funny story your family tells about you: Five year-old open-heart surgery story. Advice you would give you 25 year-old self: “Chill out. Trust more. Believe in herself and that it's all gonna be okay. Don't to be so controlling. And get quiet, list more to what's going on on the inside and do less.” What would your billboard say? Where would it be?: “Believe in yourself, trust in yourself.” It would be everywhere. Last bit of wisdom, advice that you want everybody who's listening to take away about activating greatness: We are all tempted to go into what's wrong, what needs to be changed? Know that that's a default and comes with this organism called a human being, that's okay, and your first thought is not always your best thought. Put that aside and focus your time and energy on your strengths and what they're doing well, and hold the vision, the end result vision of what you want and what it looks like even when you don't know exactly how you're going to get there.

Create your own influential network. "Just start something. Test something out, let it fail and let it fail often."-Jon Levy The Cheat Sheet: The statistical impact your friendships have on you. What are the two types of epidemics? The ninja strategy for following up by email. How to invite people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Why people like you even more if you ask them for a favor.. And so much more... What would it be like to have an Olympic athlete, an Oscar-winning actor and a CEO of a billion-dollar company at your dining room table? How could you create an event to bring them together and make them want to share a meal with you? Our guest for episode 351 did just that. Jon Levy runs an event called The Influencers Dinner in his home in New York. On today's episode he shares the origins of his idea, how he executed it to become the successful experience it is and how you can apply the same principles to create a similar event of your own. Join us for all of that and more on episode 351 of The Art of Charm. More About This Show: Jon Levy is a behavior expert, digital strategist and keynote speaker, but what is probably best known for is dinner. If you're lucky enough to get an invite to one of his exclusive dinners you're bound to have an amazing time with some of the most influential people in the world. He's had members of royal families attend, Nobel Laureates, famous actors, musicians, artists and some of the top leaders in every industry from around the globe. So what's his secret? Did he have an amazing Rolodex and just decided to gather people together at his place? Not at all. About six years ago he attended a seminar with Landmark Education and something the seminar leader said struck a chord within him. The leader said the quality of our lives is largely determined by the people we spend our time with and the conversations we have. These two things are the fundamental elements that impact who we are and where we go with our lives. Jon realized he wanted to connect with the greatest influencers he could, but how? At the time he was 28 and working for a start-up, he wasn't anyone who could get a phone call (much less a dinner) with the heads of state or Olympic medal winners. He spent the next year ruminating over how to create so much value for these people that they would make time in their already hectic schedules. He knew whatever he created needed to be so novel they would say yes. He eventually thought of having people over for dinner. He knew a group activity like cooking together would bond them quickly, and sharing food and conversation would cement that bond. Here's the novel part of the event: no one knows each other and each person is a leader from a different industry. They are not allowed to talk about what they do, they can only use their first names and if they are famous they must assume a different first name. Then over dinner the guests will guess what each of the attendees does for a living, only then can the guest reveal who they are! Since his first dinner Jon has since held 36 more and The Influencers Dinner has grown to be legendary. It's been featured in Forbes, The New York-Times and has been the catalyst behind millions of dollars done in business deals, publicity and press coverage for the attendees, multiple non-profits and even some romantic relationships. But Jon is the first to admit he overcame many hurdles and made plenty of mistakes along the way. He says he has embarrassed himself more times than not, failed countless times and had to learn many lessons the hard way. But it's all been worth it. In his words, "it takes a long time to become an overnight success". If you're in the same position Jon was when he first had the idea, what are some practical steps you can take to get going and create your own variation of The Influencers Dinner? Jon's first suggestion is to create novelty. Find something unique you can offer your guests that no one else does. Do you love games? Then do a game night and spend some time sorting out how to structure the evening so your guests enjoy themselves and you add value to their lives. That's another key point Jon makes: be sure you do something that is true to your core values. Remember this is going to be an event you're hosting for years to come so make it fun, make it enjoyable and make it something you already like doing. If it's not games, then how about a wine tasting or a mixology night? Again put some thought into this and be sure the event and activity you are hosting is true to you. One last suggestion Jon has is to spend a lot of time coming up with the idea. It took him a full year to come up with the dinner party idea! And he cautions about following in his footsteps with the dinner party: they get expensive (he spent $30k on his last year alone) so consider other alternatives before going down that road, unless you're willing to fork out the money. Jon recommends giving your idea a lot of consideration, there are plenty of other viable and equally fun alternatives to a dinner party. Jon also discusses some of the basic etiquette he follows in inviting people and for the event itself, suggestions you'll want to bear in mind as you create your own version of The Influencers Dinner. This is a fascinating topic so be sure to listen in and get all the golden nuggets! Thank you for listening and we'll see you next time. THANKS JON LEVY!
