Send us Fan MailThe Ali Act Under Fire: What Fighters Need to KnowBoxing, Power & Protection: Is the Ali Act Being Rewritten? The Future of Boxing: League Model or Fighter Protection?Today we are talking about one of the biggest legal and business issues facing professional boxing: the future of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, better known as the Ali Act. We sit down with New Jersey boxing attorney Paul Haberman and Pennsylvania boxing promoter Manny Rivera of Hard Hitting Promotions to break down the future of the Ali Act, the proposed Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, UFC/TKO/Saudi influence, fighter protections, promoter power, rankings, belts, contracts, and what every boxer needs to know before signing.Paul Haberman, a New Jersey-based attorney and partner with the Mueller Haberman Law Group. Paul brings a unique perspective to combat sports law. He is an experienced litigator, legal writer, and lecturer, and he has represented individuals and entities involved in sports, including current and former world champion boxers and mixed martial artists. He also has firsthand boxing industry experience as a former New York State-licensed boxing manager and has written extensively on legal and regulatory issues in combat sports. For fans, this may sound like legal talk. But for fighters, managers, promoters, matchmakers, trainers, and commissions, this affects real money, real contracts, rankings, titles, opportunities, and who controls the sport. With the rise of TKO, UFC-style league concepts, Saudi-backed boxing investment, and new proposed federal legislation, boxing may be standing at a major crossroads. The question is simple: does this new model help clean up boxing, or does it create a system where too much power sits in too few hands?Manny Rivera, a Philadelphia-based boxing promoter with Hard Hitting Promotions. Manny has been active as a promoter and matchmaker, and Hard Hitting Promotions has been part of the Philadelphia boxing scene, including major local events and efforts to bring boxing back to historic venues such as The Met Philadelphia. Manny brings the promoter's perspective: what it takes to build shows, develop fighters, sell tickets, manage risk, work with commissions, and survive in a changing boxing economy.SportsPodcast #PodcastLife #YouTubeBoxing #SpotifyPodcasts #ApplePodcasts#FightFans #BoxingCommunity #BoxingTalk #BoxingUpdates #CombatSportsTalk#BoxingInterviews #FightBreakdown #BoxingDiscussion #FightIndustry#BoxingExperts #HardHittingPromotions #BoxingLaw #SportsLawSupport the show The Boxing Breakdown with Mark RoxeyInside the ring and behind the scenes.

A new boxing year is upon us and a slew of Irish fighters are looking to break those chains and bring home some major titles. Among them is Tyrone titan Feargal McCrory, who's KO'd inactivity once before and is determined to do so again. Since ‘Fearless' last appeared on The Rocky Road, he's fought three times at Madison Square Garden, boxed for a world title in Washington and proved why he's one of the most popular Irish fighters around with his willingness to fight anyone, anywhere and his determination to get up off the canvas and keep marching forward, no matter what. We hear about his next move, the pain that drives him, the snakes that frustrate him behind the scenes, his withering assessment of Josh Warrington and why he's in favour of the Zuffa Boxing move into the sport and why he feels the Ali Act didn't help him, among lots of other themes in another fascinating conversation with one of Ireland's most thoughtful, independent fighters. Petesy Carroll is joined by Chuck Mindenhall and Ben Fowlkes to discuss TKO's imminent arrival in the boxing world, in conjunction with the Saudi Arabia (2:50) and TKO president Mark Shapiro suggesting that there are some flaws in the Ali Act - an act introduced in 2002 for the welfare of boxers. During the show, news broke of a boxing event taking place in Times Square, and the lads give their thoughts on a boxing card taking place in such a unique location (35:12), before the conversation turned to the UFC's media rights, which will be up for grabs before the end of 2025 (44:48). Finally, Petesy asked Chuck and Ben if the build-up to Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn has made a splash across the water (58:42).
UFC 312 seemed to signal a community-wide awakening on Sean Strickland. After watching him go out with a whimper against Dricus Du Plessis (again!) it felt like everybody had kind of had enough of his bullshit. Sure, the visionaries on this podcast have been saying for AWHILE that what Strickland advertises prefight (a bloodthirsty maniac!) is quite different than what you actually get inside the cage (a careful point fighter, who came into this bout apparently having made like ZERO adjustments). After this one, however, it felt like fans knew it, other fighters knew it and even his own corner sort of seemed to know it. So, that feels like curtains for ya boi Sean. The irony is, of course, that Strickland actually DOES feel like a psychopathic lunatic in all other aspects of his life. Just ... not when he's fighting. Plus, damn you can't doubt DDP anymore. Except in his next fight against Khamzat Chimaev ... surely he'll lose that one ... right? Also, are Dana White and Ari Emanuel about to try to "fix" boxing by going after the Ali Act? Well, shit, of course they are! Why didn't we see that coming? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
