About Elana Elana is a young advocate for migrant rights, and civil and whole-of-society representation, currently serving as part of the secretariat for the CSAC and Global Forum on Migration & Development (GFMD) Civil Society Mechanism, housed under the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC). She formerly served as Co-Director (2021-2023) and Asia-Pacific Regional Lead (2020) for the Migration Youth & Children Platform, where she led youth participation in multiple migration advocacy processes at the global and regional processes, including the 2020 Global Compact for Migration Asia-Pacific Regional Review, the 2021 GFMD, and the 2022 International Migration Review Forum, as well as for cross-cutting international policy forums for UNESCO, WHO, and United Cities and Local Governance (UCLG). Originally from Malaysia and Singapore, she currently resides in the UK. What we talk about Elana and CSAC's work to engage in global migration governance processes like the Global Compact for Migration (GCM). Perspectives on how the GCM, adopted in 2018, has gone thus far with respect to civil society engagement. I'm so glad to have Elana on the show to update us on this topic after her colleague and legendary civil society activist, Colin Rajah, came on the podcast (Episode 16) a couple of years back to share some really valuable insights. This is FREE episode week!California's athletic commission is experiencing what appears to be a slow death. Fight Opinion's Zach Arnold wrote extensively about it on Bloody Elbow and the word he used was “atrophy”. That seems like a perfect word to describe what happens when higher taxes, mergers, attempts to force sanctioning for promotions like Power Slap and a spate of other factors create the perfect storm for collapse. Aside from a few Bellator shows and a Top Rank boxing card here and there, there's not much action happening on California's sunny grounds. We discuss it.We also dive into the WWE-UFC merger that left over 100 people without jobs thanks to a gutting of WWE's office personnel roster. We looked back on the highs and lows of Noche UFC and we looked forward to a few fights on the UFC Vegas 79 card—weak as it may be. Christian and Jason do a deep dive into "the dreaded cue sheet" with Jeff Kurtenacker. What is a music cue sheet and why is it important for your film? The benefits outweigh the costs. It is more than just a tracking document! It's a sheet that you submit, it requires assigning a name for every piece of music in a film and adding timecodes where each piece of music starts and ends. A composer is acknowledged, and many rights are associated with it, like for some, who's names are attached to a publisher, the profits go to the performing rights organization such as ASCAP, BMI, or CSAC, etc. will collect royalties of performances or showings of this film on your behalf. No matter if the score is only instrumental or has lyrics, musicians are supposed to be paid upfront in addition to royalties anytime anywhere it is used. Jeff & Christian share their experiences learning this element of the music business. If you are a producer or director, think twice about the music you're using in your film. Breakdown: 0:00 - Introductions and set up about the music cue sheet and its function 9:18 - Who does the tracking for royalties, the organizations. Who is ASCA & BMI and their functionality 12:03 - What does it look like for Jeff as the composer and publisher 13:19 - Christian share her perspective as the filmmaker and uses the example of TGWWF and how it works with "managed rights" 19:30 - Jeff & Christian unpack more about music rights and "public domain" 23:19 - Jeff re-iterates the need to protect the integrity of the work as it was intended to be used. 26:50 - Christian shares the story The Go-Go's and the reason they split up as it relates top royalties and music rights. 32:54 - Budgets for music rights in film, TV, and social media 36:47 - Is the music crucial to the story-telling? This impacts the decision to pay for the licensing & rights. 39:37 - Jeff gives a middle of the road option for music 41:05 - DocuView Déjà Vu Christian: Meltdown: Three Mile Island - NETFLIX, Docu-Series - 4 Episodes, 2hrs 52 mins total IMDB link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19757508/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3 Jeff: Chernobyl, Minis Series, HBO Max, 5 Episodes, 5hrs 30 mins total IMDB Link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7366338/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Jason: Podcast Episode recommendation - Show is 20000 Hertz - Episode on "The Price Is Right Theme song" Podcast link: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-price-is-right-yeah-yeah/id1171270672?i=1000453427580

Before we go conference-by-conference (at 2:00), we address the newest team in Region 5 -- just a little program called SALISBURY -- and why we think they were moved into this region from the South and what it means for the region moving forward. Then we proceed with the rest of the region, in order: AEC (at 4:50) Cabrini won 31 games last year but will need to replace their best player Immaculata has a ton of talent back and is looking like the favorite Marymount can be counted on to contend atop this conference Marywood leads the rest of the pack Centennial (at 11:10) Can we just have A NORMAL SEASON IN THIS CONFERENCE ALREADY?! Franklin & Marshall has the most talent back of last year's contenders and will obviously be motivated Johns Hopkins will have a lot of new faces but we know they can be really good Swarthmore is still very talented despite losing half their team to Villanova (slight exaggeration) We could see a lot of moving and shaking up and down the rest of this conference with some coaching changes and intriguing talent on every other team CSAC (at 27:45) Well, well, well, look at Wilson winning 31 games, we love to see it Keystone is always something of a mystery but it's cool that now they have real competition in this conference Landmark (at 34:20) What does the encore look like for Catholic after the best year in program history? Scranton, Moravian and Elizabethtown all have some legit top-end talent but will need a lot more depth to step up to challenge the Cardinals MACC (at 43:15) Lebanon Valley has climbed to the top of this conference in a hurry and has a ton of exciting talent back, even with their top two arms from the '22 team gone York (PA) is always good but have a ton of offense to replace We conclude (at 53:50) with our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat. The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide with Curt Widhalm and Katie Vernoy
How to Manage Your Practice as a Traveling Therapist: An Interview with Kym Tolson, LCSW Curt and Katie interview Kym Tolson, the traveling therapist. We look at how a modern therapist can be a digital nomad, including what business logistics to consider as well as how to travel well. Transcripts for this episode will be available at mtsgpodcast.com! An Interview with Kym Tolson, LCSW I'm Kym Tolson, I'm an LCSW and CSAC licensed in the state of Virginia. I have an online insurance-based therapy practice. I lived in Florida until 2/2/22 when we (my BF and I) became digital nomads. Now, we will live in Air BnB's and travel the world. During the COVID lockdowns, I had a lot of time to work on my "side-hustles". I still saw my clients, but I also continued to perfect my course, "DIY Insurance Billing for Private Practice". Over 950 clinicians have taken my course and I'm humbled to be able to guide so many therapists on a path of empowerment and knowledge in their practices. I truly believe it's imperative to have at least a basic understanding of insurance billing if you are going to accept it in your practice. In addition to my course, I created a supportive community, Bill Like A Boss, for therapists who are billing insurance in their private practices. Since that time, I've created 8 income streams to support my traveling obsession. Luckily, coaching other therapists through my courses, consultations, and membership has given me space to see fewer clients and make a higher income. I've been able to scale up and serve more people at the same time instead of being stuck in the 1:1 therapy model. Now I have the space and finances to be a digital nomad and actually enjoy the places I'm traveling to! Most recently, I started a Podcast!! The Traveling Therapist to share my journey as well as the stories of other traveling therapists. Please feel free to reach out to info@kymtolson.com, www.thetravelingtherapist.com, and privatepracticeinsurancebilling.com if you would like to learn more. In this podcast episode, we talk about working as a therapist when traveling We reached out to our friend Kym Tolson who lives and works as a digital nomad. “It's kind of like being on vacation every day.” – Kym Tolson, LCSW What are the most important considerations when working as a digital nomad? Checking the Wi-Fi before booking your accommodations How long to stay in each place (Kym says about 2.5 weeks) Finding a schedule that works and only takes small tweaks when you change time zones Planning around the seasons and ideal locations What are the business considerations for traveling therapists? Consult with tax attorney and accountant, where to register your business Reach out to boards for the state you are traveling to (to determine if you can practice within the state) Paying attention to state of licensure and state where you are working Considerations for business write offs and expenses Tracking business expenses, income, and the location these things happen Managing work-life balance as a digital nomad Finding the right times for work Setting a schedule Compartmentalize fun and work separately What have been the biggest surprises in becoming a digital nomad? The number of possibilities for each day How hard it was initially in letting go of stuff and how easy it seems like it is to let go of stuff now The feelings about not having a homebase What are the necessities when traveling as a digital nomad? “We definitely need multiple Wi Fi options… So we have two different hotspot carriers because if mine's not working, his might be and vice versa. We can use each other's spots. We also have another portable mobile hotspot that we can turn on and off as we need. It connects to any cell service that's local to where that hotspot is. So that's another alternative. It is very quick to get set up and it works great in completement with EHR systems. Their team is super helpful and responsive, and the founder is actually a long-time therapy client who grew frustrated with his reimbursement times The best part is you don't need to give up your rate. They charge a standard 3% payment processing fee! Thrizer lets you become more accessible while remaining in complete control of your practice. A better experience for your clients during therapy means higher retention. Money won't be the reason they quit on therapy. Rick Saggese, XFS, CSAC, played his collegiate baseball at the University of Miami; one of the top collegiate baseball programs in the nation. At Miami, Rick battled back from his third knee injury while getting hurt in Honolulu, Hawaii to open the season. He kept his goals in sight once again and became a three-year starter, played in three College World Series, was a Collegiate All-American, and accumulated a career .302 batting average with 21 home runs and 101 RBI's. In 1996 Rick played in the National Championship game against LSU which was arguably the best College World Series title game in history, as LSU won in the ninth inning on a walk off home run. During the 1997 & 1998 summers Rick started for the Hyannis Mets (now Harbor Hawks) in the Cape Cod Amateur Collegiate Wooden Bat League and played with former MLB stars Eric Hinske, Eric Byrnes & J.J. Putz. In 1999 Rick transferred to FIU (Florida International University) for his senior season. He finished his collegiate career by hitting a game winning homerun against South Alabama at the Houston Astros AAA stadium. He played with Alex Cora (Boston Red Sox Head Coach), Pat Burrell (Phillies/Giants), Aubrey Huff (Rays/Giants) and Jason Michaels (Phillies/Indians) during his playing days at Miami. Rick was coached and trained by some of the finest coaches in the country including Walter Hriniak (former Red Sox/White Sox batting coach), Jim Morris (Miami) and Mark Calvi (South Alabama)! Rick has trained athletes in core/strength training with the same exercises that are used at world renown athlete's performance centers and uses the Mattes Method (AIS) to help increase flexibility and explosiveness. Rick was an associate scout for the Cleveland Indians for 5 seasons and knows what scouts look for in players to excel at the professional level. Rick is an EXOS Certified Fitness Specialist as well as being certified to perform the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Y-Balance Test (YBT). He uses FMS prior to the majority of strength and agility training to assess the athlete for possible “weak links” associated with their movement patterns. He also not only goes over past injury history with the athlete on the initial session, but does a postural analysis as necessary to find deeper related movement limitations. He has participated in some of the top speed/quickness camps in the country and is an Certified Speed and Agility Coach by the National Sports Performance Association. Rick has attended and learned from events taught by various top success and peak performance coaches including Tony Robbins, Dan Lier, and Jim Fannin. Take your game to another level on and off the field as Rick will help you remove any barriers that may be holding you back to get the success you want. Rick has helped many of his clients play at the collegiate and professional levels (view testimonials tab). He offers personal consulting services to coaches, parents and players on the methodologies he has successfully implemented in his training the past 19 years with over 15k athletes he has trained. Rick is the author of "Baseball For Building Boys To Men" and owner of Think Outside the Diamond training center. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/playballkid/message

One of the hardest parts about starting a new practice is figuring out everything that you didn't have do when you work for someone else. High on the list of frustrations is billing. But my guest this week, Kym Tolson says billing doesn't have to be so hard. And doing it right can mean making more money and staying compliant. Check out Kym's free mini course to decide if DIY billing is right for you About Kym Tolson: Kym Tolson is an LCSW, CSAC licensed in the state of Virginia. She has an online insurance-based therapy practice and she teaches online billing to therapists. IIn February, she officially became a digital nomad. Kym's course, "DIY Insurance Billing for Private Practice," has helped nearly 1000 clinicians because she truly believes it's imperative to have at least a basic understanding of insurance billing if you are going to accept it in your practice. She also has a supportive community, Bill Like A Boss, for therapists who are billing insurance in their private practices. I also developed a directory for therapists to find trusted billers and virtual assistants to help them in their practices if they do not want to do their own billing. About Wendy: I help healthcare experts stand out by telling their story on websites, emails and social media. When it comes to marketing, the greatest waste is an idea that fails to connect to its audience – not because it wasn't a good idea but because it wasn't packaged as a great story. My goal is to help clinicians stand out with content marketing. I've worked in marketing communications for nearly 20 years and experienced firsthand the rapid pace of change in this space. I launched Sparkr Marketing to help you stay ahead in this age of information overload. I'll help you filter through the countless marketing tactics to find the right ones to reach your target market. Most importantly, I help your business stay true to your story. Welcome to Episode 87 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. It's time to talk about the Mid-Atlantic -- well, half of what we've been used to being the Mid-Atlantic. We discuss (at 1:17) the changes to the region from last season before previewing all the favorites by conference. In order: AEC (at 3:57) Marymount won the first ever AEC title and look primed to defend their title Centennial (at 11:05) Johns Hopkins is loaded again but will be tested even more with a full schedule and traditionally ridiculous SOS Swarthmore is back and we're excited to see if they can challenge Hopkins immediately after a full year off F&M, Haverford, and Washington College can all be expected to be in the mix CSAC (at 32:17) Keystone runs this conference and probably always will... ...but could Wilson actually make a run at the Giants? We'd love to see it! Huge shoutout to Alexia Jorge at St. Elizabeth Shoutout to brand new program Rosemont Landmark (at 40:30) Scranton won it all last year and has some exciting young talent returning Catholic seems primed to take a huge step forward with some bona fide All-Region talent MACC (at 47:30) York (PA) is gonna be FASCINATING with two All-American sluggers that might combine for 40 HR but a TON else to replace Lebanon Valley could definitely challenge the Spartans, though We conclude (at 56:48) with our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat. About Today's Show:Attention brain science nerds, this episode is for you! In this interview, I sit down with Carissa Weber, LPC, aka @thatdarnamygdala, to talk about all of the fascinating (and tbh, kind of terrifying / awe-inspiring) things that happen to our brains and bodies when we're under stress. Carissa talks about how the effects of stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue manifested in her mental and physical life, and she goes into depth about the cascade of physiological responses our bodies have to stress—even the good kind (it's called "eustress"). Carissa also offers up some quick-to-use methods that can help us give our brains & nervous systems a break during the day. About Today's Guest:My name is Carissa Weber. For the last 10 years, I have worked as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a clinical substance abuse counselor (CSAC). I have always been drawn to mental health, especially how the brain impacts our mental health. Not only does this topic have meaning to me professionally, but it also has personal meaning. Through my life, I have struggled with anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and now, the stress of wearing multiple hats in my life (wife, mom, therapist, and aspiring equestrian). It is my goal to share with the world the science behind mental health so people have the most up-to-date information about how to improve their mental health and have the quality of life they deserve. To follow & connect with Carissa: Website: www.thatdarnamygdala.com Instagram: @thatdarnamygdala To apply to be a guest on this show, please fill out this Interviewee Interest form and let me know what you'd like to add to the conversation! To get individualized help finding your way out of burnout, schedule a 1-1 burnout coaching session with Meg on Calendly.Intro & Outro Music: DriftMaster by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.comIG: @mentalstatuspodWebsite: mentalstatus.transistor.fmTalk to me: mentalstatuspod [at] gmail.comDisclaimer, y'all: This is a podcast meant for education and entertainment purposes only. Welcome to Episode 70 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. This is our fourth of eight regional preview pods -- this one covers the Mid-Atlantic region and its eight conferences. First, we give some thoughts on the past weekend in D-III, WashU opening their season 3-0, and the new Top 25 poll. Then, we put on our swim trunks and head into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean...or something like that. AEC (at 7:30) Cabrini seemed like the team to beat but now it appears Marymount is the team that can make some real noise. Most importantly, we think they have an AQ. Centennial (at 9:50) Conference-only is understandable...but conference-only with only 14 games??? Uh........this could get weird Johns Hopkins won the D-III offseason with several high-profile transfers and some big-time returners. On paper, they should dominate. We are extremely bummed that Swarthmore will not be competing Other teams such as Franklin & Marshall and Washington (MD) will need a lot of things to go right to contend for the conference title Landmark (at 21:40) Susquehanna showed well in the 2019 postseason last year, and will look to defend its Landmark title but Catholic will likely be in the conversation as well MAC Freedom (at 25:40) Misericordia is going for its 10th straight conference title and is always an extremely good D-III baseball team Our thoughts are with DeSales after a recent tragedy within their program MAC Commonwealth (at 30:30) Alvernia has been the gold standard in this conference in recent years but Hood may finally be ready to challenge them NEAC (at 33:00) We are still salty about how this conference ended Toby Welk's career but now all we care about is whether Bret Williams is back and how many homers he's gonna hit for PSU-Harrisburg NJAC (at 36:55) -- once again, before talking about the teams, we bask in the glory of this reality show conference TCNJ is always reliably Very Good but do not have nearly as much talent returning as some of their biggest conference foes Kean, on the other hand, does have some big 5th year guys coming back and look like they might be the best team heading into the season Rowan essentially graduated a D-III All-Star team in 2019 so they don't quite have the same elite depth but still have some big time returners Ramapo is always good but they still haven't posted a roster so how are we supposed to talk about them? SMH. William Paterson has elevated into the top tier of NJAC competition but CSAC (at 47:00) Keystone is obviously gonna be good but will be harder to gauge this year with less non-conference competition on the schedule We concluded (at 49:00) with a few other notable player shout outs , our player and pitcher of the year picks for the region, and our teams to beat. Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening! Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ. To kick off the New Year we invite James Puckett (LPC, NCC, CSAC, MAC), whose counseling expertise lies in in several areas ranging from trauma and stress-related disorders, addiction, human trafficking , domestic violence, suicide and self harm. James is also a professor of Psychology at UW-LaCrosse, his approach with students is to help apply what they learn in the classroom to their future career. Much of this he attributes from working in the field with at-risk individuals, to see more than a label and responding with empathy. He also shares his recommendations for "banking up resiliency," in the face of hard situations, sharing about personal tragedy he experienced this past year and how it re-shaped him.
Mike and Lance sort through an avalanche of boxing news, including Canelo Alvarez potentially returning to DAZN (1:30). Who would trade blows with Canelo should their relationship mend? Could Wilder-Fury III really happen? Pug and Copp converse about Deontay Wilder and his representation's intention to force Tyson Fury into a trilogy (5:30). Former IBF welterweight champion, Kell Brook, jumps on Zoom with the guys to chat about his upcoming fisticuff with Terence Crawford (10:30). How confident is Brook ahead of Saturday's clash, and how close, ability-wise, is the 34-year-old to when he beat Shawn Porter in 2014 (12:45)? Does Brook regret fighting GGG (15:30), and is he aware of the doubt surrounding his chance at victory (20:00)?
