In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss my frustration with an app for doing a music survey from Alt Nation on SiriusXM. Generally speaking, the app was probably about 70% accessible. However, the most important part was not. You've got to hear the song to rate it. If you can't find the play button, you can't listen. This is not the only app that has accessibility issues, and I'm not the only blind/visually impaired person to have trouble using accessible apps. That is why I am looking forward to Washington Seminar in January. This is part of our agenda when we go to lobby Congress. On this episode of Headliners, Greg is joined by THE HABITS to talk about their new EP I THINK I'M FINE BUT I DON'T KNOW!When Wolf Bradley and Andrew Macatrao first met as teens, they didn't expect that their journey would lead to a long path of friendship and being on the cusp of becoming breakthrough musicians. Especially when that first encounter took place at Bradley's parent's ballet school in San Pedro. They weren't enemies, but they certainly weren't friends either. With a bunch of guys in the same age range, it was easy for them to be in direct competition with one another without becoming pals. That would change soon enough. Bradley received a guitar as a present and, knowing that Macatrao played drums, they decided to jam together. All previous notions about one another went out the window and they became fast friends.Over the years, members would come and go, leaving the duo as the only ones committed to making music seriously for the long haul. After cycling through a number of names, Bradley and Macatrao soon settled on calling themselves The Habits. In 2019, the group's single “Casual” would spend eight weeks in the Top 5, peaking at No.1 on hometown rock radio tastemaker KROQ's “Locals Only” playlist. It wasn't just in their hometown that the song would casually catch. SiriusXM's Alt Nation and DC 101 added the song, quickly introducing the duo to a much wider audience. Then the pandemic hit. After a few months of deliberation, The Habits decided to unleash their What's the Worst That Can Happen? EP to the world. The decision proved to be wise. The single from the EP, “Shoulders,” recently surpassed 1 million streams and won a Best Pop Video at the California Music Video Awards in 2021.But Bradley and Macatrao had larger ambitions than being local heroes. Through a friend, they met American Authors bassist Dave Rublin. Instantly connecting on a professional and friendly level, Rublin produced and co-wrote The Habits' earworm, “Don't Need A Hero,” released in 2022 to critical acclaim. With a new introspective EP titled I Think I'm Fine But I Don't Know set to arrive on April 28, The Habits are ready to spread their message even farther and wider than they have before.CONNECT WITH THE HABITSInstagram - TwitterSUPPORT THIS SHOWSUBSCRIBE TO YOUR LIFE THE MIXTAPE MAGAZINE

We had the pleasure of interviewing Two Feet over Zoom video! Two Feet enters his next era with the release of brand new single “Fire In My Head,” further cementing the signature fusion of confrontational alternative and structure-defiant electronic music that has launched him to 1.5 billion streams, Gold and Platinum scanned singles, a #1 hit on the Billboard Alternative chart, a $1 million NFT drop and more. Alongside the new song and video, out now on AWAL, Two Feet has unveiled a run of full-band, headlining fall tour dates at The Novo in Los Angeles, Webster Hall in New York City, The Fillmore in San Francisco and more, all of which are on-sale today. Reflecting on the new chapter, Two Feet says, “For 'Fire In My Head' I wanted to revisit the sound of my first EP. I think this song does it well with an updated energy.”Listen to “Fire In My Head” and watch the lyric video, full of beachside, black-and-white nostalgia: https://twofeet.ffm.to/fireinmyheadvideo Find the full list of dates for Two Feet's 2021 fall tour, and purchase tickets here: https://twofeetmusic.com/tour “Fire In My Head” arrives on the heels of Two Feet's conceptual new album, Max Maco is Dead Right?. Released earlier this spring and centered around the sudden rise and demise of a visionary artist named Max Maco, the album found Two Feet embodying the troubled, titular persona as he confronted the challenges of fame, excess and heartbreak. Before writing any of the music, Two Feet devised a 25-page map of Maco's life story, enlisted the same acting coach who helped Rami Malek with his transformation into Freddie Mercury, and created sweeping productions that combined his love of flamenco guitar with trap beats on songs like “Flatline,” rock with the pulsing dance grooves he used to DJ at drag shows on “Never Enough,” and more. Upon its release, Max Maco racked up more than 25 million streams, appearing on Spotify's Times Square Billboard, while Two Feet performed on Rolling Stone's Twitch, took over Reddit's r/Music, guest hosted SiriusXM's Alt Nation, and headlined San Diego's California Center for the Arts last month. Having toured with Panic! At The Disco and played festivals like Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo and Hangout, Two Feet's fall tour marks his long-awaited return to the road, where he'll preview even more new music alongside his power trio. We had the pleasure of interviewing Eliza & The Delusionals from the House of Blues in San Diego! *This interview was recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic* Eliza & The Delusionals have never been afraid to think big. “The goal has always been to play huge shows,” says singer-guitarist Eliza Klatt, who founded the Northern New South Wales/Gold Coast band in 2015. Over the past few years that dream has slowly become a reality as the group’s sweetly snarling, anthemic brand of indie rock has led to supports with artists such as Grinspoon, Nothing But Thieves, Dear Seattle and Killing Heidi, appearances at landmark festivals such as BIGSOUND, Falls Festival and Canadian Music Week, and major radio support both locally and internationally. After a slew of well-received early singles, the band’s climb was kickstarted in earnest by 2017 debut EP The Deeper End. A potent mix of buzz-saw guitars, ear-worm melodies and Klatt’s undeniable vocal hooks, singles such as “Salt” instantly caught the attention of national broadcaster triple j. “We’re just writing songs we want to hear ourselves,” says guitarist Kurt Skuse. “You hear us in our purest form in our writing.” Skuse and Klatt go back years, living down the street from each other as kids. They reconnected in the Gold Coast’s thriving band scene, with Skuse joining alongside guitarist Ashley Martin, a friend of Klatt’s at university, to solidify the line up. The extended periods on the road since have acted as a steep learning curve, while fusing the band into a tightly-wound live unit. "We learned how to put our live set and show together through the experience of watching bigger-scale bands do it” says Klatt. You can hear that experience in recent singles “Pull Apart Heart” and “Just Exist”, the first taste of the group’s forthcoming second EP. The latter in particular introduces a more mature subtlety to their sound, with Klatt ruminating on finding a balance between creativity and good mental health against a slowly building and insistent melody. The song has connected in a big way, particularly in the United States and Canada, with Alt Nation – the flagship alternative rock channel of SiriusXM – crowning it their ‘Critical Cut’ and adding “Just Exist” to high rotation. The listeners responded in kind, voting it Number 1 on the Weekly ALT18 countdown, where it remained in the Top 10 for more than a month. The flow on effect has been remarkable, with more than a dozen stations across America – including national network Music Choice and influential outlets in New York, California, Texas and Florida – adding “Just Exist”. The band’s Spotify listenership has jumped by nearly 100% overall and a whopping 400+% in America, while “Just Exist” has exceeded 600,000 streams. Recently crowned Amazon’s Music’s “Weekly One” and “Song of the Week” in the States, the band’s Shazams have also surged by more than 900%. Having signed with renowned US agency APA for North America, the doors are well and truly starting to open for Eliza & The Delusionals internationally. Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Michigander over Zoom video! Michigander,is an exciting indie rock artist on the rise who has already generated more than 12 million streams globally. Michigander recently released the uplifting rock anthem “Let Down” via C3 Records, which has been receiving lots of support and playlisting from Spotify, Apple Music and SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, including placement on Spotify’s New Music Friday, and is currently making waves at AAA radio across the country. PRESS HERE to listen/watch the official music video and hear the folk-tinged B-Side “48” that was recently released.PRESS HERE to watch a live performance of “Let Down” from Lincoln Hall in Chicago, which was recorded in August. Michigander also recently took the virtual stage for Lollapalooza’s 2020 livestream.Michigander emanates a magnetic Midwest spirit, delivering uplifting anthems, raised even higher by six-string fireworks, empowering lyrics, and understated arena ambition. The sonic alter ego of Michigan native, singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist Jason Singer, Michigander, which wasbrought to life during 2014 while moving across his home state to Kalamazoo, has garnered the acclaim of NPR, Paste, NME, SPINand many more, in addition to his 12 million-plus streams. In 2016, the independent single “Nineties” took off, claiming real estate on multiple major Spotify playlists and cracking 1 million streams on the platform. Between releasing the 2018 EP Midland, Jason and his band shared the stage with the likes of Ra Ra Ra Riot, Tokyo Police Club, Twin Peaks, and JR JR in addition to gracing the stages of festivals with alt-j, Solange, Foster The People, and Run The Jewels, to name a few.Signed to C3 Records, Michigander recorded and released the EP Where Do We Go From Here in 2019and expanded his sound, as illuminated on the singles “Misery” and “Popular,” the latter of which saw placements on Spotify’s The New Alt, Fresh Finds, and Rock’n Vibes playlists and peaked at #21 on the AAA charts.Jason wrote everything for his latest EP in his bedroom over the course of six months and co-produced the collection alongside Jake Rye. He emphasized the prominence of solos—in every song—making what he aptly describes as, “big pop songs disguised with guitars.”Ultimately, listening to Michigander makes you feel at home, like you’re driving through the Midwest. And he’s only getting started. Michigander will be releasing lots more music in 2021, and pre-Covid was confirmed for appearances at Electric Forrest, Shaky Knees, Lollapalooza and Firefly, so big things are on the horizon for the rising artist. We want to hear from you! Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Blame My Youth over Zoom video! Blame My Youth is Sean Van Vleet – a name you might not be aware of, but unknowingly heard in your headphones, in a store or on a television. As a former principal songwriter in Chicago indie faves Empires, Van Vleet expanded into the world of songwriting and syncs, providing music for major artists and ads worldwide. Blame My Youth is Van Vleet’s return to the band format, bringing all of the earworm-y grandiosity that permeated his quietly complicated pop gems.Blame My Youth - reveals a new song, “Dance With My Demons,” his follow up to Blame My Youth’s debut single “Fantastic.” Teaming with Billboard’s #1 producer Joey Moi and co-writer Greg Holden (who co-wrote the song) “Dance With My Demons” once again highlights Van Vleet’s prowess for crafting endlessly catchy, hook-filled songs. He shares, “‘Dance With My Demons’ is a pub/barn burner for the pint raisers who choose to cheers their vices and reckless behaviors for a night, and shove their shames off into the future. This song celebrates a mindset where the bright side and dark side meet, and the party starts. The day I met my now extremely good friend and frequent collaborator Greg Holden, we were equally crashed out at the bottom of recent life highs. He had some heavy personal struggles as did I. We shared a guilty conscience we had about giving into vices and letting bad habits and thoughts get the best of us. Both of us grapple with loving and hating our demons. So we wrote this song where we allowed ourselves to be good with them for little while, accept them, maybe even warmly embrace them.” A perfectly-crafted modern rock banger permeated by seductive pop hooks and sheer audacity, “Fantastic” was released this Fall and debuted on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. It has amassed upwards of 3 million streams and the video hit the top 10 rock and alternative charts at Vevo. It is the follow up to “Right Where You Belong,” which was written and recorded exclusively for the soundtrack to Bill And Ted Face The Music - it played during the movie’s closing credits - and marked the debut of Blame My Youth.Blame My Youth is Van Vleet’s return to the band format, bringing all of the earworm-y grandiosity that permeated his quietly complicated pop gems. Sean Van Vleet first success came with Empires, a Chicago based indie band with several releases, an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and festival appearances such as Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and more during tours with Death Cab for Cutie, Deerhunter, Alkaline Trio and others. After Empires called it quits in 2015, he connected with friend Josh Ocean (NVDES) to build an impenetrable musical bond that has seen their explosive “laptop punk” find its way into placements around the world including the likes of Samsung, Google and Apple iPhone advertisements. As Van Vleet was writing the first Blame My Youth songs he shared them with close friends including some of the people he worked with along the way - a crew mostly renowned for their time in Nashville - Big Loud’s Seth England, Craig Wiseman and Moi. They have long wanted to collaborate and while Big Loud primarily work in the country music space, there was no denying that Blame My Youth was something special, and they quickly signed Sean to their new label imprint Big Loud Rock. “I met them all 10 years ago,” recalls Van Vleet. “Not only are we really good friends, but I think we all knew that we would eventually work on something awesome together. It’s just about the right timing.”With Blame My Youth, Van Vleet is showcasing his overwhelmingly feel good approach with nods to Andrew WK’s brazenly positive big bang and Post Malone’s inescapable pop sensibility, all with touches of darkness and vulnerability throughout. It’s music meant for maximum volume while recovering from a life on maximum volume, yet so earnest, singular and inescapable that it relates to anyone who has fought through any sort of adversity. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Social Animals over Zoom video! In July, Social Animals shared a new track “Something to Keep Me Awake” via Rise Records. Recorded pre-COVID-19 at Chris Carrabba’s home studio (Dashboard Confessional), the track is eerily fitting for this time; a time when each day feels like a struggle and each news bulletin stokes a fire of desiring change, of protest, of restoring faith in humanity. The accompanying video shows footage of the band on the European leg of their tour with Ash which was cut short due to the current crisis along with their North American tour with Beach Slang. Stream “Something to Keep Me Awake” HERE and watch the video HERE.“It’s hard to watch the news today without a Xanax bar. We recorded ‘Something To Keep Me Awake’ with our friend Chris Carrabba in his home studio, and he adds some anger through his backing vocals throughout the track. It’s fitting because if you’re not angry right now, you’re not listening. Every morning when I wake up in this strange new world we live in, I have to find new ways to stay motivated and keep myself awake. It’d be easier to sleep through it. But that simply isn’t an option. So we’re not going to ‘wait until this blows over’ to share this with you because it shouldn’t just blow over. We need to sit with our situation and find out what really matters to us and how we can help. Stay safe out there.” Dedric Clark (vocals, guitar)The band has stayed active during quarantine, writing new music and curating performances for live streams on Earmilk, Bandsintown, Dork’s Homeschool Festival, and more. Prior to their European tour with Ash, Social Animals spent time touring the US with label-mates Angels & Airwaves and they released a string of critically acclaimed singles - “Bad Things,” “Best Years,” and “Get Over It” - via a limited edition 7” this Spring to widespread praise from Billboard, Flaunt, American Songwriter, Sirius XM’s Alt Nation, The Current, Triple J, Clash, Dork, Upset, and more.Social Animals’ new single “Something to Keep Me Awake” is available to stream HERE via all DSPs and you can watch the video HERE. This performance was recorded live as part of our 11th Annual Summer Concert Festival. With an eclectic song catalog and category-defying organic/electronic sound, people are taking notice of ATC. They were 2015 Billboard Hot 100 Fest performers with The Weeknd and Justin Bieber, placed on the NPR Hot 100 List for SXSW, named Guardian UK Band of the Day, won Best Indie Alternative Song for “You Know Me” in the Independent Music Awards, and have over 15 million Spotify plays. ATC’s music has been licensed by Bose, MTV, NBC, ABC, Disney, Verizon, Toyota, and many more. The band started 2016 with showcases in Park City at Sundance with ASCAP, Toyota Music Lodge, and Cisero’s. They followed this up with their first Sixth man Rock Boat cruise with bands like Bronze Radio Return, Jukebox The Ghost, and Michael Franti. An Official act again this year at SXSW, ATC played showcases for McDonalds, the Grammy Museum, and was featured on Jeff Regan’s Alt Nation playlist of bands to watch at this year’s festival.
