In this episode, Nick, Erik and Becky face the last film in the Bill & Ted saga called BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC. We discuss the origins of the original film, George Carlin's presence in the film, and of course you can't talk the newer film without discussing the original films "Excellent Adventure" and "Bogus Journey". Does the film live up to the previous two? How have the others aged? And, perhaps, does the film continue the "Be Excellent To Each Other" Bill-and-Ted guarantee? As always this episode may contain traces of spoilers, so don't say I didn't warn you. All in all its' just another episode of… THE GOOD, THE BAD and THE GEEKY! Then it is the movie that kicked off a series that launched an iconic comedic character in The Pink Panther. There is also a sweeping animated adventure that explore some mythology behind a popular Chinese holiday in Over the Moon. Then we top it off with a horror thriller called Evil Eye. After that we look at some of the major events that will continue to change how movies are released. As always, we had a blast recording the episode, and we really hope you love it too. Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Blame My Youth over Zoom video! Blame My Youth is Sean Van Vleet – a name you might not be aware of, but unknowingly heard in your headphones, in a store or on a television. As a former principal songwriter in Chicago indie faves Empires, Van Vleet expanded into the world of songwriting and syncs, providing music for major artists and ads worldwide. Blame My Youth is Van Vleet’s return to the band format, bringing all of the earworm-y grandiosity that permeated his quietly complicated pop gems.Blame My Youth - reveals a new song, “Dance With My Demons,” his follow up to Blame My Youth’s debut single “Fantastic.” Teaming with Billboard’s #1 producer Joey Moi and co-writer Greg Holden (who co-wrote the song) “Dance With My Demons” once again highlights Van Vleet’s prowess for crafting endlessly catchy, hook-filled songs. He shares, “‘Dance With My Demons’ is a pub/barn burner for the pint raisers who choose to cheers their vices and reckless behaviors for a night, and shove their shames off into the future. This song celebrates a mindset where the bright side and dark side meet, and the party starts. The day I met my now extremely good friend and frequent collaborator Greg Holden, we were equally crashed out at the bottom of recent life highs. He had some heavy personal struggles as did I. We shared a guilty conscience we had about giving into vices and letting bad habits and thoughts get the best of us. Both of us grapple with loving and hating our demons. So we wrote this song where we allowed ourselves to be good with them for little while, accept them, maybe even warmly embrace them.” A perfectly-crafted modern rock banger permeated by seductive pop hooks and sheer audacity, “Fantastic” was released this Fall and debuted on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. It has amassed upwards of 3 million streams and the video hit the top 10 rock and alternative charts at Vevo. It is the follow up to “Right Where You Belong,” which was written and recorded exclusively for the soundtrack to Bill And Ted Face The Music - it played during the movie’s closing credits - and marked the debut of Blame My Youth.Blame My Youth is Van Vleet’s return to the band format, bringing all of the earworm-y grandiosity that permeated his quietly complicated pop gems. Sean Van Vleet first success came with Empires, a Chicago based indie band with several releases, an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and festival appearances such as Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and more during tours with Death Cab for Cutie, Deerhunter, Alkaline Trio and others. After Empires called it quits in 2015, he connected with friend Josh Ocean (NVDES) to build an impenetrable musical bond that has seen their explosive “laptop punk” find its way into placements around the world including the likes of Samsung, Google and Apple iPhone advertisements. As Van Vleet was writing the first Blame My Youth songs he shared them with close friends including some of the people he worked with along the way - a crew mostly renowned for their time in Nashville - Big Loud’s Seth England, Craig Wiseman and Moi. They have long wanted to collaborate and while Big Loud primarily work in the country music space, there was no denying that Blame My Youth was something special, and they quickly signed Sean to their new label imprint Big Loud Rock. “I met them all 10 years ago,” recalls Van Vleet. “Not only are we really good friends, but I think we all knew that we would eventually work on something awesome together. It’s just about the right timing.”With Blame My Youth, Van Vleet is showcasing his overwhelmingly feel good approach with nods to Andrew WK’s brazenly positive big bang and Post Malone’s inescapable pop sensibility, all with touches of darkness and vulnerability throughout. It’s music meant for maximum volume while recovering from a life on maximum volume, yet so earnest, singular and inescapable that it relates to anyone who has fought through any sort of adversity. We want to hear from you! Since recording this episode, there have been hurricanes, elections, and hurricane-elections. But we're finally picking up the pieces over here at FoM Studios. Hello, friendo! Or acquaintance-o. Or maybe just first-time-listener-o. Welcome, indeed, to Succotash Shut-In: The Soundcast Stimulus Package. What is a “soundcast”? That’s what we here at Succotash Patch Productions call a “podcast” because maybe you don’t listen to them on an iPod any more, which went out of production a few years ago. I’m your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon and this is Episode 223 of our nine and a half year-old show with a slightly new name in honor of COVID-19 and its attendant lockdown. If you missed Epi222, that dropped just last week and was hosted by our other host, Tyson Saner. In that ‘sode he featured clips from a trio of comedy soundcasts: City Mouse Country Mouse, The Bloodybits Horror Show, and Cold Callers Comedy. You can grab it at Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, the Laughable app, YouTube, Stitcher, and wherever you normally find your soundcastery. This week’s episode is entitled Revuein’ Some Movie Review ‘Casts. And that’s MOSTLY what I’m going to do. I have a quartet of shows where the hosts talk about movies. Mostly BAD movies because it’s always funnier to riff on crappy films than it is to try to be funny about good movies. But not always, as you’ll hear. My full rack of clips includes excerpts from one that kind of started the genre in the first place, and that’s How Did This Get Made?, along with Dad’s Movie Night, The Flop House, and Who Shot Ya? This episode is brought to you by our long-running sponsor Henderson’s Pants, makers of the new Darkly HalloWear, just in time for this year’s fright festivities! And we are also brought to you by Trumpoetry.com. CLIPS Before we get the clips that match our theme today, we got a submission to our direct upload link yesterday, just as I was locking everything down for this episode. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, we have an open invitation for any comedy podcaster who would like us to feature a clip from their show to get us a three to five minute MP3 clip – not a promo, because promos are for shows that don’t feature clips – and they can get that clip to us simply by clicking over to http://hightail.com/u/Succotash. Include a little blurb about your show, and who the people are we’re listening to, and either Tyson or I will get your clip onto an upcoming episode.) The Jock Doc Podcast Our submitted clip today comes from The Jock Doc Podcast, and features Dr. London Smith as the host. Here’s the note that accompanied the clip: “Here is a clip from the beginning of the first episode of the Jock Doc Podcast, all improvised. I tell people to just give the first episode 5 minutes and they will know whether they will like the podcast.” Well, Doc, that’s fair enough… How Did This Get Made? Let’s start out this revue of movie review soundcasts with a snippet from pretty much the granddaddy of the genre, hosted by Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas, who put some of filmdom’s most unwatchable dreck through the spanking machine. But they do it with love, because they know that no one ever sets out to make a bad movie…it just sort of happens. My featured clip is from an episode from about a month ago, in Spetember, in which they ripped apart The Velocipastor. The synopsis for the movie on IMDB reads: “After losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. At first horrified by this new power, a hooker convinces him to use it to fight crime. And ninjas.” Dad’s Movie Night Our second clip of the review theme has a scanty description that goes like this: “Two dads watching movies from our youth and trying to figure out if they hold up, should they be rebooted, and...should we force our kids to eventually watch them.” The dads are Pete and Brian – that’s all I can find on them – no last names, no Twitter accounts, and in their 119th outing they dive into one of my old faves, Tremors, starring Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon. And this is a movie they actually like, BTW, so an exception to that ‘bad movies only’ rule most shows abide by! The Flop House First of all, nice on-brand title for a soundcast that takes a look at crappy movies. It features a triumverate of hosts: Elliott Kalan, Dan McCoy, and Stuart Wellington and they are…you know what? Let me let their homesite blurb lay it out: “They are friends who’ve decided to express that friendship not by doing productive or enjoyable things, but instead by watching critical or commercial flops, and then discussing those terrible movies for you to enjoy in your ear-holes. Although, honestly, most of the time they just talk about random bullshit.” My featured snippet is from their recent Epi323, where they forced themselves to watch Deadly Lessons. Who Shot Ya? Our final clip is a Maximum Fun show featuring “not just a bunch of straight, white dudes”, according to their site. Instead, we are wisked through movie reviews by comedian Ify Nwadiwe, film producer Drea Clark, and film critic Alonso Duralde. We clipped a recent episode where they tucked into Bill And Ted Face The Music, although this segment is more about them flashing back on the two preceding Bill and Ted films. And that is all the show I have for you right now. I hope I am able to offer you a little respite from the Great Weirdness we’re currently all enduring, and hopefully I can turn you on to one or more new soundcasts you’ll go enjoy on your own. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram. We’ve got a Facebook page. And you can email either me or Tyson Saner with either of our first names AT SuccotashShow.com. Don’t forget to check out Tyson’s upcoming Epi224 and if you’re looking for a show to recommend to friends and/or family that’s kind of a Whitman’s Sampler of comedy soundcast goodness, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

This week, Ryland and Charlie are back as a duo to talk about movies! With a new Bracket Champion in the books they look back at the month long contest that decided The Wizard of Oz as its Champ. And they also look to the future for the Bracket of Champions. They also discuss the changes in the AMPAS rules for Best Picture eligibility and talk about the new DUNE trailer that recently dropped as well as their breakdown of BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC. They bring back "Where were you when?" with a Christopher Nolan centric round of memories. And they take a deep dive into the mind of Charlie Kaufman with two feature films penned by the eccentric screnwriter. 2020's I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS written and directed by Kaufman as well as 2004's ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND that won Kaufman the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and directed by Michel Gondry. Until Next Week!! And if you wanted to be a part of the online community of Tha Reel Sh!t, just follow this link and join up! https://www.facebook.com/groups/397783900310183/
