In this week's Pixels & Ink Podcast: Jordan sits down with Chris and Lane to talk a little about their April Fools—despite the current times making April Fools seem just a little in bad taste, there's no reason why the gang can't take a trip down memory lane to a time when it was a little bit more creative, and bit more appropriate; particularly with prank videogame announcements. Afterwards, the tone turns morose as the P&I crew has to discuss the tragic loss of one of videogames' most iconic characters: Super Mario. As March 31st, 2021 marked the "Day Mario Died," the gang talks a little about how incredibly stupid the whole online hyperbole was. Afterwards, the gang talks a little about the newest casting announcements for the upcoming Disney+ Obi-Wan pre-sequel series, which spins out into some crazy theories about Obi-Wan being a Force Ghost the whole time, and all kinds of other fun Star Wars talk. To bring the whole thing home, Jordan talks about Monster Hunter Rise—how the new mechanics work, how approchable the game is, and how it might be the best Monster Hunter in the franchise.

However, he’s immediately facing resistance over the tax hikes required to foot the bill. As March closes, U.S. equities have marked out their fourth consecutive positive quarter. Meanwhile, China’s post-virus recovery seems to stutter with the Caixin PMI index falling to its lowest level for almost a year. OPEC and its allies lower their demand forecast ahead of a key meeting today, while the CEO of Saudi Aramco tells CNBC he's confident of meeting dividend payout expectations. And in France, President Macron finally imposes a strict third national lockdown in a bid to halt spiraling Covid-19 cases and increasing hospitalisations.

She was also a part of the Girls Day in Baseball event put on by Baseball Alberta last summer that featured several big names from this province including Kelsey Lalor, Tara Sliwkanich and last week’s podcast guest Paige Wakefield. THE VERY UNEXPECTED FOURTH BOOK IN THE GLOTHIC TALES TRILOGY "Quick March, the planet Earth needs to be saved!" Not from alien attack, nuclear destruction, or even being hit by a misguided comet. No, Earth needs to be saved from making millions of years of painful losses for Gloth, and it falls to March Gregorian, eldest son and heir to February the Twenty-Ninth, the Supreme Potentate of the Twelve Sun Systems of Gloth, to find a way to finally make Earth profitable. The obvious starting point in such a difficult assignment is, of course, to do some quick research and then ascertain the most lucrative tradable commodity a planet has to offer. Once that is clear, simply arrange to export a whole lot more of it and the problem is solved. As March prepares to make his first journey to Earth, he is sure he knows which Earth product will solve the problem. Salmon. Unfortunately for March, all does not go well on the salmon front, and he discovers all too quickly that Earth is not an easy place to manage, understand, or to squeeze a profit from. Faced with losing face with his father by returning to Gloth empty handed, March fears that his salmon failure may lead to serious doubts about his ability to remain heir to the Supreme Potentate. Luckily, however, his fears of losing his right to the throne evaporate in a flash when he stumbles upon a remarkable alternative solution. Swedes. Don't panic if you haven't heard the first three Glothic Tales, as all is explained in March, so you won't miss a trick. In celebration of International Women's Day (March 8), Wild City has been posting mixes compiled by female artists for this entire month. As March nears its end, we have the final mix of the month – this one comes from Mumbai-based DJ Manaalina aka Manaal Oomerbhoy. Though the last of the series, Manaalina's mix may be the most impactful one yet, and one that truly celebrates women in electronic music. Just one look at the tracklist and you'll see why – the mix features tracks solely produced by female artists. If that isn't a true display of rebellion against patriarchal tropes and gender stereotypes about women in electronic music, then we don't know what is. Manaalina's set is an empowering catalogue of some of electronic music's most powerful and experimental female producers. Ranging from radical artists like Deena Abdelwahed, Kaltes & Nene H, and Aisha Devi to Upsammy, Mor Elian, Aurora Halal, Powder and more, the mix includes tracks from artists all over the map, from Europe to America to Asia and beyond. Manaalina claims to experience dance as a “powerful exorciser” and is a strong believer in the transcendental and healing abilities of sound, and it shows in her set, which comprises primarily of experimental, left-field electronic. The mix lays on the heavier side of the sonic spectrum, spanning industrial, abstract electro, techno and house, awash with vocal samples and breaks. All-consuming and bass-heavy, the mix displays her open-minded approach to experimentation and her deep love for the dance-floor, apparent in the hypnotic, trance-like barrage of sounds. “A frenzied mix for fractured minds, envisioned as a soundtrack for witching hour.” - Manaalina Head here for tracklist & further info: http://www.thewildcity.com/mixes/12183-wild-city-169-manaalina

As March draws to a close, host Dr Oli Tearle is accompanied by guests Dr Sarah Parker and Dr Kerry Featherstone to contemplate the theme of spring. Kicking off with a reading of ‘Spring’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay, our experts discuss an interesting ‘Dairy Ode’ that is So Bad It’s Good, when you should read aloud to your cat, and the modern poetry of Leicestershire. Featured poem: To what purpose, April, do you return again? Beauty is not enough. You can no longer quiet me with the redness Of little leaves opening stickily. I know what I know. The sun is hot on my neck as I observe The spikes of the crocus. The smell of the earth is good. It is apparent that there is no death. But what does that signify? Not only under ground are the brains of men Eaten by maggots. Life in itself Is nothing, An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs. It is not enough that yearly, down this hill, April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers. To follow updates on the podcast, check out @lboroenglish on twitter.

As March approaches, I expect the magazine stands to be filled with articles around weight loss and getting to work on that Summer body. While we at Black Zen think it's great to be active and intentional about taking care of ourselves physically, we wonder if there's too much emphasis placed on the outside perception of what it means to be healthy over the harder, more nuanced work that it takes to be inwardly in good shape. With all the talk of dieting and getting fit, what would happen if we focused our efforts on the inside rather than the out...

As March blows in we go back in this week's Deadpod to the spring of 1981, and one of the fine shows from the band's run at Madison Square Garden. Last year we played the previous evening's show, but this performance from March 10, 1981 deserves a spot on our favorites as well. The show beings with a Mississippi Half-Step that starts off great, then a shocking bit of feedback/reverb blows through the sound system - the band simply plays through it like the pros they are, but don't let it throw you off, this is a great version! This flows into a fine, stand alone version of Franklin's Tower. I always enjoy these, and this one is no slouch. Me and My Uncle follows with Weir joking that the earlier feedback was all planned. They slow it up a little with 'Roses'. Don't Easy Me In occupies a rare mid-set position, and there is some nice improvisation in the Lazy Lightnin'->Supplication transition. A strong first set that I hope puts you in a fine space as we roll into early March!    Grateful Dead Madison Square Garden New York , NY 3/10/81 - Tuesday   One Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo [11:36] > Franklin's Tower [11:03] > Me And My Uncle [3:05] ; It Must Have Been The Roses [6:18] > Little Red Rooster [6:12] ; Don't Ease Me In [3:15] ; Lazy Lightnin' [3:24] > Supplication [6:03] ; Brown Eyed Women [5:27] > Looks Like Rain [9:19] > Deal [7:13]   You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod030317.mp3     My thanks for your kind support!!
