Is this where we see the Big Ten-SEC "advisory group" start to exert its influence? Next, UCF coach Gus Malzahn joins the show to discuss what surprised him in the Knights' first year in the Big 12. Malzahn also talks retaining talent and how he decided to start calling plays again. Plus, he tells the story of how he met a young Eli Drinkwitz. Liz McKenzie is an Award-Winning Filmmaker, Writer, and Editor. Her eye for sharing small wonders is extraordinary and you will come away with fresh eyes for your surroundings, no matter where you are. In this episode, she tells stories from her work that prove to her that animals can sense our good intentions and they will act accordingly. Liz points to little known wonders like the fact that birds are fighting their battles with songs, and she talks about possible partnerships between humans and animals that could save our futures now. She gives us examples of hope that demonstrate people and industry are finally waking up. We talk about how valuable it can be to listen to other voices, not just the human voices. Liz's projects have taken her from the arctic to Tasmania. From the decks of fishing boats in the Gulf of Alaska, to creating intimate film portraits of Kangaroos in eastern Australia . Most importantly, Liz is the filmmaker for an amazing nature documentary called “The Singing Planet” that I highly recommend. Liz McKenzie's view of the world around us will give you access to an expansive feeling whenever you need one. The historic 2018 Texas election is in the books and even though some of the dust has yet to settle -- the vote counting continues in a few races -- there is plenty to be said for what it all means. The race between Sen. Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke was so competitive that it drove Democrats to victories down the ballot in parts of Texas where they have not been competitive in the past. There is no doubt that a blue wave crashed into a red wall in Texas but not without doing some significant damage to the Republican Party's grip on power at the Capitol in Austin. Two Republican state senators lost their races while Democrats gained 12 seats in the Texas House. Despite the energy behind O'Rourke, the GOP held the line in every statewide race including wins for Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Sen. Ted Cruz is getting backup from President Trump on Monday when he comes to Houston to rally for the senator fending off a challenge from Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke. Trump's theme at campaign rallies around the nation has been that a vote for the candidate he supports equates to a vote for him. Will such a message help or hurt Cruz heading into early voting starting on Monday? Meantime, O'Rourke learned to make a fist as he and Cruz took the gloves off and sparred in their likely final debate this week in San Antonio. We'll break it down. Plus, Democrats are making their final push for votes all up and down the I-35 corridor from Dallas to Bexar Counties. Will it put them over the top in legislative races? Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Beto O'Rourke are making their final arguments to voters across the Great State in the home stretch of the U.S. Senate campaign. Richard Linklater, the renowned Austin filmmaker, has now directed TV ads for an anti-Cruz PAC in which the argument is that Cruz is weak instead of "Tough as Texas" -- his campaign slogan. "Come on, Ted," the ad concludes. The polls, though, show Cruz is solidifying his lead over the Democratic challenger by at least 9 points. Meantime, a prominent Texas Republican says he'll be voting for the Democrat running against Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. And Gov. Greg Abbott didn't attract very many Texas House Republicans to his fundraiser during Texas-OU weekend in Dallas. What does that mean for his relationship with members of the Texas House going into the 2019 legislative session? Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Beto O'Rourke are set to clash in their second debate this weekend in Houston. On the show, we break down the first debate in Dallas and offer a preview of how the Senate candidates may throw down in Houston Sunday night. A powerful state senator from Central Texas is accused of sexting with a grad student at UT. What's the fallout from that amid the #MeToo movement? And Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's first TV ad of the general election doesn't just feature that cool antique truck he was driving during the primary. Now, he's got an adorable dog as well in the mix. Willie Nelson took a lot of heat this week for his upcoming concert to fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke, but he doesn't seem to care. Meantime, O'Rourke's trailing Sen. Ted Cruz in one new poll this week and leading him in another. Democrats managed to lose a seat in the Texas Senate that they've held since the 1800's. How did that happen? Plus, Texas is dead last in voter turnout and people in this state say lawmakers should go ahead and vote to confirm President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Republicans are sounding the alarm that Sen. Ted Cruz could be in real danger of losing his reelection bid to Rep. Beto O’Rourke. That's why Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick reportedly went to the White House earlier this year to ask that President Trump come to Texas to campaign for Cruz, which he’s set to do in October. Meantime O’Rourke continues his celebrity tour on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who talked with him about why he goes by “Beto” and whether he would support a wall along the Texas-Mexico border. And Republicans are hoping they can snag another Texas Senate seat this coming week in a special election in South Texas. Now that Labor Day weekend has come and gone, the campaigns for statewide office in Texas kick into high gear. Sen. Ted Cruz keeps doing all he can to define Rep. Beto O’Rourke, his Democratic challenger, as “too liberal” and “too vulgar” for Texas voters. But is Cruz making the same mistake former Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst made when running against Cruz? Every time he attacked him, the name ID of the challenger rose back in 2012 helping Cruz across the finish line. Meantime, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has finally hit the campaign trail – by renting a private jet and traveling to one small city after another for two days, mostly talking to TV cameramen while ducking a debate with his Democratic opponent Mike Collier. Oh, and a federal judge in Austin this week blocked the state’s new requirements for burying or cremating fetal remains just as a federal judge in Tarrant County heard arguments to scrap the Affordable Care Act.
