Send us a textWe all say we want success, growth, and impact, but very few of us are willing to wait for them.In this episode, I unpack a short but powerful chapter from Gary Vaynerchuk's book 12 1/2—the chapter on patience. It's only four pages long, but it hits like a sledgehammer. Because patience isn't just about waiting—it's about who you become while you wait.If you've ever felt like you're behind in life, rushing to catch up, or burning out from trying to prove yourself, this one's for you.
Strategic thinking isn't about having the strongest opinion in the room – it's about knowing how to take a step back and ask better questions. In this episode, we talk about what it really takes to move from personal opinion to a more strategic viewpoint, especially when you're dealing with big, complex topics that people often feel strongly about. We explore a simple approach: start by getting some perspective (take the balcony view rather than getting stuck on the dance floor), stay open to other possibilities (two things can be true at once), and always come back to context – what problem are we actually trying to solve? We've both seen this in action and we talk about tangible examples, such as designing a bonus scheme and everyone comes to the table with strong preferences, on we have tackled these situations and how the approach we suggest can really help. It creates space to listen, explore alternatives, and let go of the idea that there's one perfect answer. You don't need to have all the answers to be strategic. But you do need to stay curious, ask the right questions, and be willing to think differently. This episode sets the tone for the rest of the series, where we'll explore big hairy questions, and how to navigate these more strategically.Key Points DiscussedWhy strong opinions can hinder strategic clarityThe importance of moving from opinion to strategic viewpointThe “balcony vs dance floor” metaphor for gaining perspectiveHow curiosity unlocks better thinking in group discussionsThe danger of seeking to “win” over others in strategic debateThe value of considering context over personal preferenceUsing the “disagree and commit” mindset in leadershipThe three-part strategic approach: Perspective, Alternatives, ContextThank you for tuning in to this episode of The Strategic Leader podcast. Subscriber-only episodeSend me a Text MessageIn this episode, I share a recent experience that taught me a valuable lesson about catastrophizing and the unnecessary stress it brings. After facing repeated technical issues with my computer, I found myself spiraling into worst-case scenario thinking — something I'm sure many of us can relate to.But instead of letting panic take over, I made a conscious decision to step back, reassess the situation, and focus on what really matters.
Hey everyone! In this episode of Your Ultimate Life, I'm tackling a topic that's close to my heart: excuses. For years, I let excuses hold me back from living the life I desired. But I've learned that excuses are nothing more than an existential threat to our hopes and dreams. They keep us stuck in mediocrity and prevent us from reaching our full potential.Excuses: The Silent Dream KillersExcuses come in all shapes and sizes. They can be as simple as "I'm too tired" or as complex as "I'm not good enough." But no matter what form they take, excuses all have one thing in common: they rob us of our power. When we make excuses, we give away our agency and allow external circumstances to dictate our lives.Your Divine Right to HappinessYou have a divine right to happiness, success, and joy. But these rights don't come in an Amazon box. They are created through action. When we fall into the trap of "I'll be happy when..." we delay our happiness and give our power away to external circumstances.Embrace Failure as a Stepping StoneFailure is not the end of the road. It's simply a data point, an opportunity to learn and grow. Don't let setbacks discourage you. Instead, embrace them as valuable lessons on your journey to success. The Power of PerspectiveHow we perceive our circumstances can either empower us or hold us back. When faced with a challenge, ask yourself, "How else can I look at this situation?" This simple question can open up new possibilities and solutions.Choose Joy, NowYou don't have to wait for the perfect moment to be happy. Choose joy now, regardless of your circumstances or goals. Happiness is an inside job, and it's available to you in this very moment.Action is AccelerationThe key to overcoming excuses and achieving your goals is to take action. Direct, consistent, motivated action is the fuel that propels you towards your dreams. Don't let fear or doubt hold you back. Start small, celebrate your wins, and keep moving forward.Remember: You have the power to create your ultimate life. Don't let excuses stand in your way.Action Steps:Identify your excuses: What are your go-to excuses for not taking action?Challenge your excuses: Are they really true? What's the worst that could happen if you tried?Reframe your thinking: Look for alternative perspectives and possibilities.Take action: Start small, celebrate your wins, and keep moving forward.Choose joy: Focus on the positive aspects of your life and be grateful for what you have.---------------------------Next Steps and Free ResourcesVisit https://www.yourultimatelife.ca for free resources and tools to help you create your ultimate life.Ready to breathe life into your dreams? One of the biggest challenges nonprofit leaders face is engaging decision makers around the information and data that we know make a compelling case for the policy or money decision we're asking for. But we know from experience that simply presenting that data and information and explaining why and how it supports our argument rarely leads to a decision maker leaning in and saying, tell me more. Much less having them say, you're right. This is a no brainer. One of the best techniques for translating data and information into something that's engaging and compelling is the use of vivid parallel or contrasting imagery. There are plenty of other tools in the messaging toolbox. But this one is especially effective -- once you learn how to use it.In this episode, we share:Why your most compelling data and information often don't get through to decisionmakers What makes imagery “sticky” and memorableThe two most powerful types of imagery that will shift decisionmakers' perspectiveHow to combine imagery with story to make the biggest impact on decisionmakers' thinkingThe hidden obstacle you must overcome to make your imagery work with decisionmakersHow to take your image-creation skills to the next level If you found value in this episode, please share it with other progressive nonprofit leaders. And I'd be grateful if you would leave a rating and review on Apple podcasts, which will help even more people find out about this podcast. Thanks!

Such a powerful episode. I've got Maleah on the podcast - I asked her to come on and share her experience of what it was like leaving her own version of a cult-ish experience.I believe this is a very powerful and important concept for us to digest (individually and collectively) we go forward into our consciousness evolution. (PS – ever notice how the word “cult” is in the word “culture”? Something to ponder)***While cults are typically thought of as spiritual in nature, (and was our main talking point in this episode), the way we've defined it here is expanded to include any dogmatic social structure that oppresses nuanced thinking. We dive deep into:The fear of staying with an old structure/cult “just in case”How to let go of an old social structure/cult that doesn't serve you anymoreHow to hold two truths at one time with respect for someone else's perspectiveHow this collective planetary ascension is really an “in-scension”.(watch for the nuanced ways this idea comes up through our convo;)So much amazing consciousness talk here. Maleah is such a bright, authentic-to-the-core human. We had a lot of fun recording this episode together. The Ambitious Nurse | RN, Nursing Career, Nursing Job Opportunities
In my daily conversations with nurses, I find more and more nurses saying that "I need to change things". There are nurses who are at the top of their pay scales and they need to decide what they should do next. Many others are still in the middle of it or are just starting out and say the same thing. What's the common denominator among those who are just starting out or in the middle? In all of these cases, perspective is the common denominator. It is our nature as ambitious nurses to always think about the next thing. A move may seem like the next step for us at times. A move, however, may not always be the best solution. The best answer sometimes is to stay in your current position and change the situation. During this episode, I discuss what you can do if you feel you are in a difficult situation but you enjoy your work. Let's navigate through the feelings of wanting to change your situation and see if we can find a solution for you to have more peace at work. Here are a few things we will tackle in this episode: Best steps to change your perspectiveHow the lack of balance between work and life can be a contributing factor in your bad situationThe importance of examining work relationshipsHow more work for you may be the better answerThe importance of stepping up and contributing your voice in the workplaceWhat you should make the ultimate priority when you are uneasy and not at peace at work Support the Show.Connect with Bonnie Meadows MSN, APRN, ACCNS-AG Website: The Ambitious Nurse Podcast Become an Ambitious Nurse Insider & sign up for my weekly newsletter here: Click the link here. I talk with my clients a lot about how the subconscious beliefs, thoughts, and stories that keep us stuck in patterns that aren't taking us in the direction we want to go. Whether it be food, body, relationship, or career, our brains are constantly operating off arbitrary rules that are designed to preserve energy and keep us safe (because outgrowing our comfort zone is uncomfortable!). Because we've been practicing these biases for a lifetime, and many of them conform with societal standards, we simply take them as fact. What we do in the coaching container is challenge what our brains have been feeding us and see if there's different possibility. This is where we reclaim our authority -- something women are told they 1. Don't have, or 2. Can't trust. What you'll learn in the episode: How to challenge your perspectiveHow to create life on your termsHow to reclaim your authorityBook a Free Consultation for 1-1 coachingLet's Connect!: FacebookInstagram

Emma Branderhorst is a 26-year-old director from Amsterdam. Her work mainly deals with major social themes such as period poverty, children of war, and bullying, which she turns into a personal and intimate story. The ‘slice of life' effect is significant in her work which is how she can make the characters feel ‘alive' and that the story doesn't only focus on the problem. She intentionally tells stories through powerful and independent female protagonists from a feminine perspective. Her film Under the Skin premiered at Berlinale Generation and won the Wildcard Dutch Film Festival for best new film talent (2019) and Cinekid's best youth film (2020). Her latest film Spotless (2022), won the Krystal Bear at Berlinale Generation, the Cinekid award for Best Short Film, the Grand Prix at Regard in Canada, and was recently submitted to the Oscars 2023. As business owners, we should be building our businesses around our life, not the other way around, but perfectionism can make that hard. Many of us end up working way more hours than we would like because we struggle to let go of certain tasks. In today's episode of Art of Online Business, I sat down with Ashley Gartland to talk about how you can start to create more time freedom in your business so that you can do more by doing less and achieve your version of success. Ashley Gartland helps small business owners set a time freedom goal for their business and identify the shifts and solutions that will help them achieve it so they can make time for what's most important. She's all about taking a subtractive approach to business and finding ways to do less, better—and not so her clients can be more productive but rather so they can live more rich, fulfilling lives.Less is more when it comes to achieving time freedom. By setting your priorities and determining what success looks like for you, you can work your way toward the time freedom that you want without your business suffering.
