I never thought I would get to speak to someone in the legendary Californian city of Fresno. I always though it was short for a bigger title too, but turns out to be Spanish for Ash tree. Eve Reliand who claimed the name Autistic Bad Ass Activist before anyone else, kindly spoke to me for my podcast.Eve is best introduced as an autistic activist, artist, writer and parent. she is the founder of InternationalBadassActivists (one word for all you autistic pendants out there), and a co-founder of the Autistic Co operative. Eve started writing for self advocacy in 2005 and launched her first campaign around autism in 2008. Eve's goals are to make a better future for all autistic s born today, amplify divergent voices and document just what has been going on in the world of autism but from our perspective rather than the neurotypical curing parent one that seems to want absolute domination over every narrative and agenda known. Her wonderful films on social media must be seen to be believed. History will be very glad that Eve has gone to the effort that she has. CIVIC STORIES: A South Bend Civic Theatre podcast with Alex Peek
In today's episode, I have Joe Roman. Joe has been around the South Bend Civic Theater for over a decade; either seen on stage, backstage or in the house as an usher, he seems to have done it all. As discussed in the episode, Joe was diagnosed with Autism/Aspergers in 2004; however, this was a late in life diagnosis. In the episode, you will hear how Joe has never let this hold him back in the theater or in front of the camera, as he has done a number of films as well.

Carly Jones MBE is a single mother of three daughters, the eldest of which is 23. A fact that she reckons entitles her to a sainthood, never mind being made a Member of the British Empire for services to autistic people (well at least the British Crown recognises us as such).Carly's story found her alone against all the odds raising three children, and later in life finding out through them that she was autistic. She has gone on to support many autistic people as a mentor and...wait for it... is a Keynote speaker, a presenter, an author, a UK Policy Safeguarding professional and...yet there is more...is on numerous advisory boards like the National Autistic Society, The Barbican London, Autistica Insights, NHS England Immunisation Board, Heathrow Airport, Motability Consumer Group, East Midlands Rail and as if that aint enough she finds time to. My brother is back for another varied and interesting discussion. We run through quite a few interesting topics. - Jack is moving! Country lifestyle. Why getting back to nature can reduce stress and improve your life. - When does a human mind actually become mature? We could possibly all agree somewhere between 18-21 most are physically mature, but not mentally? - Autism, Aspergers, and anti-social behavior. What are some symptoms? Does it run in our family line? - RAGE! Getting crazy protective over those you love and blacking/hulking out. - Test subjects. Are we possibly used as experiments by the government? They have been caught experimenting on people that were unaware in factual past cases. Why would they ever stop when most people believe the government sincerely has our best in mind. HA! - Do you have a price? Could you give up your highest personal values and beliefs for the right amount of $$$? - Should gambling be illegal? Lottery tickets, horse racing, etc... are legal. Why are so many forms of gambling illegal, like playing cards? ...and more that i can't recall at the moment. Listen up, enjoy the conversation. Subscribe, Rate & review, Support the show! COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? GuerillaAspies@Outlook.comEmma Dalmayne has assisted the British Police to find, question and even arrest parents and people who put their childrens live in danger through unregulated treatments that are supposed to 'cure' them of being autistic. She has often done this by infiltrating social groups dedicated to such aims, finding out who people are and then reporting them. As seen on the BBC, Channel 4, in the Guardian, Times and Daily Mail newspapers. The unique and I think history making autistic advocate Emma Dalmayne finally gets time to talk to me on the phone. That took some doing.Emma and I have been friends for many years and I have not been podcasting for a while, really because I was after speaking to her. I think her work around exposing the practices of injecting CHL Chlorine Dioxide into the anuses of small children, which killed a UK child, is life saving. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2007/jul/10/usa.edpilkington and https://www.vice.com/en/article/kwxq3w/parents-are-giving-their-children-bleach-enemas-to-cure-them-of-autism-311Quoting the New York Times:...the “bleach cures” movement. The Genesis II Church and Kerri Rivera, among others, have been selling products like chlorine dioxide, marketed as “Miracle Mineral Solution,” or M.M.S., stating that the substances will cure autism, acne, cancer, diabetes, Covid-19 and so much more. This is a crucial red flag for pseudoscience: When a product claims it can cure anything, it's a fake.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/26/opinion/coronavirus-bleach-trump-autism.htmlWith six children, several of them at home to with her, Emma has started her own organisation to support both parents and autistic children with regular South London playgroups and meet ups. She has published two books and has spoken on radio and television. She has been consulted by Government in the UK Parliament and only this year was thanked during a meeting in the Palace of Westminster, over the regulation of dangerous practices aimed at 'treating' autistic children. In the belief that this would stop them being what they are. Emma as acted undercover for many years, infiltrating huge online social groups of parents who are secretively putting their own children health and lives at risk. All under the delusion that it will stop them being what they describe as autistic. Emma has taken a lot of personal abuse from such people and has received more threats than I would care to mention on here. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/jul/13/fake-cures-autism-prove-deadlyhttps://autisticinclusivemeets.org/about-us/emma-dalmayne/I am proud to call Emma my friend and I hope to carry on supporting her work in the future. Even if it means we have to get ourselves a bit roughed up facing others. Ah well, that's being old Liverpudlian or Scouser for you. We tend to find ourselves at the sharp end... ;)COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK? GuerillaAspies@Outlook.comSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/guerilla-aspies-autism-aspergers-syndrome-neurodiversity. You've seen the puzzle pieces, the lighting it up blue, the walks...but autism is so much more than these well-intentioned, but sometimes harmful awareness campaigns. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful autism is in the common lexicon now, but I am very passionate about telling the rest of the story. Or rather, letting autistic people tell the rest of their story. In this episode, I interview Heidi and Victoria, two Australian women who are also autistic. Their new podcast, Aspies Etc., caught my attention, and I wanted to pick their neurodiverse minds on everything from how to better raise my autistic daughter and what it's like to launch into the podcast world. I've been writing about my daughter and autism for years. I haven't always done it right. But I've done it. And I have no regrets. We need this connection of community, and I'm grateful I get to parent a neurodiverse child. And maybe, just maybe, I've lived inside a neurodiverse mind my entire life. Hell, a real one more like.Do we all spend our lives compromising and following social protocols that demand we become to varying degrees, someone and something we are not? Then to go on to live as such for the rest of our lives. Sometimes blissfully unaware of how much we compromise ourselves. I think so. But not everyone is lucky enough to uncover and come to live in alignment with their own reality in all its forms. About Autisable Autisable is a community-based website that connects anyone who wants to discuss any topic associated with autism. In 2008, Autisable was launched as part of the Xanga.com, LLC network of blogging community sites, in an effort to provide an avenue for people to share their journey with Autism. The Xanga Team asked Joel Manzer to head up the site, as he has a son that is diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. For the first 6 years, Autisable grew in traffic and engagement with the community, connecting over a hundred bloggers and several national and international non-profits that reached over 30,000 unique IP’s worldwide and over a hundred thousand page views a month. Then in 2014, Xanga shelved it’s proprietary platform and old business model, which left Autisable on life support for over a year and a half. In August of 2016, Joel Manzer created Autisable, LLC – based in Virginia Beach, VA, a company that eventually took ownership of Autisable.com. With its redesign, Autisable is now able to continue its efforts to connect the autism community. Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. But over the years we’ve discovered that it’s much more than that…. We encourage discussion surrounding all aspects of Autism/Aspergers, and associated issues surrounding those with Special Needs. Our goal is to create a community of individuals with various viewpoints surrounding the controversies of Autism and to give back to the Autism community through donations to organizations that help the Autism Community. As the Autisable community grows, so will our ability to donate to these organizations. Here is a list of ways that you can be involved in the Autisable community: Join Autisable – You don’t have to have Autism or have a family or friend with Autism in order to be a part of the Autisable Community. By participating in the Autisable community you are helping to spread awareness and understanding of Autism, and we appreciate your support and encouragement. Submit a post to Autisable. Once you’ve written something you’d like to share with the community, send it our way! The editors of Autisable thoughtfully choose the best posts and feature them on the front page! Read other posts and comment on them. The dialogue that develops on the posts we feature is the heart of the Autisable community and is by far the best way to interact with other members of the community! You may subscribe to our RSS Feed, follow us on Twitter and become a fan of us on Facebook! We embrace social networking, and we know you won’t always have time to check the front page each day. We also can come to you via E-Mail. We use these tools to let you know what posts we’re featuring so you can best decide what posts you’d like to read and discuss. Stories, stories, stories! There are so many funny, cute, endearing, sweet stories we could share about Mikey... we share some and invite you to share your own on our site http://findingmikey.com`
Heather and I continue our story of Mikey starting Kindergarten and where he is today.
Quite a few years back, I met Lindsi at a Photography Conference and we stayed in touch since then. I learned last year (I believe) that she is a special education teacher and has a lot of experience with kids like Mikey. We share a conversation about how, as parents we can help through the use of accommodations.
In this episode, Heather and I sit down and talk about our life with Mikey and how we got to where we are today.
