Hosted on Acast. Released by Nintendo in 1984 for the NES, Excitebike - a high-speed race against time, where the only thing hotter than the other racer's skills is your bike's overheated engine. Jump ramps, avoid mud pits, and push through grassy terrain in-between. Just try to keep your bike from turning into a stationary bonfire that leaves you running back from the sidelines. If you ever wondered what it's like to be a motocross daredevil who constantly risks spontaneous combustion, here ya go. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We're gathered here today to mourn & celebrate the life of a video game console, Nintendo's last handheld-only device, the small but mighty Nintendo 3DS.As of March 27th, 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS and Wii U will be officially shut down, meaning 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS games will no longer be available to purchase. We've already dedicated an episode in the past to the Nintendo Wii U, so today we're taking a look back at our memories of the 3DS: our favorite games to grace the device, StreetPass & other quirky apps, its hit-&-miss use of its signature stereoscopic 3D gimmick, and some last-minute purchases we've recently downloaded & played in the eShop's twilight hours. Plus we wax poetic a bit about the death of digital media, the importance of video game preservation, and the ethics of p*racy & emulation (not that we know what tf we're talking about! we're just two gaymers with a podcast and opinions!) If you're listening to this before 3/27/23, we hope this episode provides a couple of last-minute game recommendations to download! Otherwise... we don't know what to tell ya, but thanks for listening anyways! Good luck finding a physical copy of some of these games on eBay I guess? RIP to the 3DS. You had a good at it, thanks for your input

Wave Race 64 was added to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack library last week, and I figured it'll probably never be this topical again, so let's strike while the iron's wet. I've been looking for an excuse to cover this one on the podcast anyway. I remember playing it back when I got my 64 and thinking the water physics were incredible, and the game itself was really fun. I've been playing it over the past couple days to get ready for the show, and even after all these years, those statements hold true. The water is STILL incredible, and the game is STILL really fun! I was actually surprised by just how well this mofo has aged, to tell you the truth. My younger brother, Josh, is my guest again this week, and it was a real trip going back to 1996 and talking about a game we used to play together as kids (and as much as I hate to admit it, a game he used to be able to kick my ass at). Wave Race 64 hold up, and hopefully this week's podcast convinces you to give it a spin. And before we race on waves, I CRUSH another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks how I deal with haters and negative listeners online. How does Yoshi's Island stack up against Super Mario World? And do I think I'll ever stop buying new consoles and games? Plus we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 N64 racers: Excitebike 64, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, and Ridge Racer 64 Are you on social media? In 1983 Nintendo released the Famicom, short for Family Computer, in Japan and in need of games, Miyamoto made the transition from an arcade game designer to a home game designer with his directorial debut on the Famicom, Devil World. Though never released in the states due to its religious iconography, Devil World, a Pacman-like, shows Miyamoto struggling to adapt to the new format. Later, he released Excitebike, a fast-paced sidescroller with hints of Mario and Zelda. This week on Gameography we look at Miyamoto's first attempts at making home games. We look at how they hold up, and at what they tell us about the development of Miyamoto's game design style. The post S1 Ep 3: Devil World and Excitebike first appeared on Gameography Podcast.
