Every so often, a conversation reignites that childlike spark of wonder we all hold dear, and our latest chat with Jenny and Mari of Misty Mountain Studio does just that. They share their journey from RPG Maker enthusiasts to indie game creators, weaving the tale of their brainchild, "Death Trick: Double Blind." Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1950s American circus, they unfold the mysteries and inspirations that drove their detective game's creation. Step right up and listen to how a shared past, a passion for narrative, and a dash of nostalgia have brought to life a world where the enchanting allure of the circus meets the gritty reality of its existence. It's not just about the big top and its bedazzling acts; it's the soul of the characters that brings our discussion alive. The duo delves into the heart of their cast, from Yan's cultural richness to Aideen's intricate web of relationships and how personal experiences shaped these digital beings. So, take a seat and prepare to be captivated by how Jenny and Mari artfully balance the whimsical and the profound, ensuring that each player leaves the show with memories as vivid as the most spectacular circus performance.Check out Death Trick: Double BlindFollow Death Trick: Double on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DT_DoubleBlindBuy the game on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2254710/Death_Trick_Double_Blind/Buy the game on Nintendo Switch: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/death-trick-double-blind-switch/Check out our sponsor!Discover how Magic Mind, our favorite energy drink, can fuel your energy levels. You can get it at magicmind.com/gamerheadss and use promo code Gamerheadss.Support the showHere are a few ways you can support Gamerheads!Leave us a review! Not only does your review help fellow gamers discover our podcast, but it also provides valuable insights for us as content creators. This week, Zak and Aaron hop right back into the maelstrom that is the modern games industry. Wait, were you expecting something different? Maybe you don't know their particular brand. On this particular, acronym-filled venture, Zak and Aaron try to unpack the evolution of UGC, especially as it pertains to Fortnite and the Unreal Engine. Between the Unreal Engine for Fortnite, CoD in Roblox, and a million other examples, it seems like user-generated content is poised to become the next big thing in games. What does that mean? Who knows. Please, enjoy.Listen to Beach Girl on SpotifyCheck out edouggieart on EtsyAlso, thanks to Bo Burnham. Please don't be mad at Aaron for clipping your song. He really respects you.
Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch, Phil Thomas, and Andy Hunter. In part two of our look at Pokémon fan projects, we shift from ROM hacks to fan games, Pokémon inspired games developed by fans that are built from the ground up, usually with third-party game engines. Topics discussed include: Fascists don't like Pokémon, that time Pac-Man ate too many dots, the wild history of RPG Maker, the merits of video game buyback programs, Kevin's failed RPG, and whether there might be an NFT of Kate out there somewhere. This week on Axe of the Blood God, recent political going-ons have the gang physically, mentally, and spiritually taxed. Kat, Nadia, and Eric elect to take it easy and do a mid-year check-in of the RPGs. What are some of our favorite games this year? (Elden Ring might get a mention.) Which RPGs were surprise hits? Which seemed to slip under the radar? Opinions are shared. Also in this episode: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is looking quite fine. Eric is trying to build a Gundam model, RIP All glory to the Disneyworld Dead Lizard Patrol In the Post Show On this week's post show, Kat and Eric descend down an End of Evangelion hole, and Nadia just kind of sits with her gob as wide as a boot because she has no idea what they're talking about. But then the gang answers an important listener question about how they'd build their ideal RPGs. Eric and Nadia have answers that are almost normal, but Kat unleashes a nightmare idea on the masses. For the love of God, don't let her anywhere near RPG Maker.
This week on Axe of the Blood God, Kat has an intense war flashback to spring 2020. If you don't recall, Final Fantasy 7 Remake absconded with a little bit of her soul, and she's never been quite the same since. Hence why she absolutely goes off on Final Fantasy 7 Remake all over again in this episode. But who can blame her? The ongoing summer of not-E3 continues to drop a whole lot of Final Fantasy 7 news, including an announcement for "Rebirth." It's enough to shatter anyone's mind—arguably the best kind of news worth digging through. This episode even contains a very special witness to Kat's breakdown: $100 Patron Vivicomplex! Vivi leads the discussion on RPG Maker, the long-lived game construction series that amateur programmers use to make adventures with minimal coding. RPG Maker's legacy and purpose is carried on today through programs like Game Maker Studio, which gave rise to Undertale and countless other RPGs. Also in this episode: The Summer of Gundam continues! What's the series' ideal viewing order? Kat educates us. So, so much Final Fantasy 7 news. Crisis Core remake! Crisis Core remake!! Janus brought down the gmod apocalypse, praise be. In the Post Show Weekly Post Show One show is not enough to contain all the Final Fantasy news — nor is it enough to contain Kat's continued FF7 Remake rant-a-rooney. Vivicomplex joins the gang again as they talk more about what's going on with this brand-new take on the controversial "Compilation of Final Fantasy 7." Also, Nadia's still making her way through FFX, so expect some complaining about Seymour. The Weekly Post Show is available exclusively to our supporters in the Stars of Destiny tier! Thanks so much for your support! And as always, you can catch us when we record live on Friday at 5pm PT.

The game takes place in a struggling town beset by a Beast, and every night, a villager is killed. Explore Vidar's past in four unique settings, each filled with puzzles which blend nostalgic dungeon-exploration mechanics (like frictionless ice, mirrors which reflect light, adjustable water levels, and more) with new twists. A small, independent game released on Windows PC back in 2012. It was the indiest of indies, a title developed largely by one person using RPG Maker software. Many people outside the RPG Maker development community would never hear of Star Stealing Prince, but the community itself showered it with praise and awards. Years later, Ronove's independent game stands tall among larger turn-based RPGs with gorgeous art, an engaging combat system, and a captivating, unique story. Buckle in and listen to why you should check out a largely unknown, free, indie RPG. You can download Star Stealing Prince for free from its Wordpress site.
