Leaders, Lead Well!In the old west town of Bannack, Montana, during the 1860s, people decided to take back their town from the dishonest, stealing, and evil people that were there. The term 3-7-77 was painted on the doors of the bad folks which meant two things.First, it meant you have 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 77 seconds to get out of town or you faced the consequences of the second meaning of 3-7-77 which are 3 feet wide, 7 feet deep, and 77 inches long; the dimensions of a grave. The bad guys got the message pretty fast and left town even faster. However, and no surprise here, those who pushed their luck found out that the town folks were not kidding around when the time wound down.Fast forward to today and no matter where you look be it politics, organizations, social media, media outlets, or social media, we are surrounded by dishonesty. The constant barrage of lies, misinformation, and lack of accountability has led to a culture of destruction, theft, depression, and violence. The prevalence of dishonesty and its impact on society is mind numbing! The problem is that the lines have become so blurred, that it is difficult to tell when leaders are telling the truth and to what end are they being held accountable. Does this mean that all leaders are dishonest? Absolutely not! There are some great leaders in every walk of life that we must get behind and follow. However, it is critical to know who those great leaders are and which ones we need to watch out for.Rich and Maikel discuss the impact of dishonest leadership in this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Welcome to Episode Fifty-One of The West London Witch, a podcast where we share stories about those moments where we find ourselves very much not alone. Deep in the rugged and unspoilt Montana countryside lies the sleeping gold rush boom town of Bannack State Park. This wild west village is a ghost town in more than one way, and today we meet the ghosts that still populate this abandoned town.
Bannack State Park is a ghost town, once a booming mining tow in the later part of the 1800s. Rich in history, and not all is good like gold. There is a dark history that has to do with a corrupt sheriff named Henry Plummer. He had killed many folks in his day but always seem to get away from his bad doings. That is until he found himself face to face with a noose!
Between the Northern Rocky Mountains that run through Montana, we find a garden with 1,000 Buddha statues. In Dillion, we travel back to the "Old West," to explore a ghost town known for its gold and lawlessness. At one of Montana's famous national parks, we hike to a hidden passageway that cuts through the Ptmarigan Wall.
Happy Spooky Wednesday, Friends! We're keeping it classic this week with two haunted locations. First up Kala talks about Bannack, MT and it's most haunted building, Hotel Meade. This little town boomed during the gold rush, but became a ghost town in the 1940s when the mining dried up. Spirits of those who have lived there are still seen throughout the town, but no where seems quite as haunted as the Hotel Meade. A girl who drowned in a nearby pond is seen on the second floor of the building where her mother worked, and because she can not leave, it seems like her mother can not leave either. And Brittany talks about the Jewett House in Mason, MI. Built in 1855, the home has a well-known history in Mason, including it's stint from the 1930s to 1990 as the Jewett Funeral Home. According to the many rumors, footsteps, unexplained whistling, and whispering are often heard late at night. Are these former residents? People who were prepared to be laid to rest at the home? Or the echo of grief that comes from so many people saying goodbye to their loved ones. We end the episode with a listener suggestion of the Mudhouse Mansion in Lancaster, OH! The building is no longer there, but locals still tell the tales of why this building may have been haunted. Thank you all for joining us this week!
Wow it has been a while! We were so busy last week and then took some huge naps, that we missed last week's episode. But we are back this week and greatly refreshed. In a change of pace, we have no scripts for you in this week's episode of "Writer's Block", but rather some informal, blue collar, working class ideas for "The Hoarder" had we written scripts. Additionally, we get another classic Western epic of Lukas' family. In this episode, we get the story of Lukas' uncle, who was a sheriff of Bannack, Montana, and rumored to also be the leader of a local vigilante outlaw gang called 'The Innocence'. His uncle was caught and hung for his actions, but some stories say that his uncle was wrongfully accused of his actions. Get ready to put your thinking caps on because this idea will get you thinking. Was Lukas' uncle actually guilty? Is this actually an interactive, choose your adventure western stylized movie with randomly generated alternate endings on DVD? And who the heck are 'Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'? Henry Plummer becomes the sheriff of Bannack, Montana, but many believe he also runs a gang of killers and thieves. Before long, powerful men organize and authorize crews of vigilantes who systematically hang their enemies. Henry Plummer, the sheriff of Bannack, is first on the hit list, and his story ends in mystery. Was he an upstanding sheriff or the leader of a gang of road agents, or both? Levi Boone Helm. The Kentucky Cannibal. Born in 1828 in Kentucky, and hanged in Montana Territory in 1864, this guy was mayhem on legs. He spent nearly his entire adult life fighting, robbing, killing, and running from the law. He killed at least 18 men in various shootouts and other violent encounters. He ended up stuck way out in the woods on numerous occasions with no option for food other than to eat another grown man, which he did if he got hungry enough. He spent his final days riding with The Innocents, an outlaw gang active in Bannack and Virginia City, Montana, before a massive vigilante mob brought them down. Lotta yip, yip, yaw in this one. Montana State University adjunct humanities faculty Dr. Dan Hanson examines how Bannack State Park utilizes haunting as a commercial attraction and historical teaching tool in its annual “Ghost Walk.” Understanding haunting's functionality within this heritage site is important as Bannack continues to reflect and shape the real and imagined West.
The late 1800s saw a spark in mining all across the western portion of the United States. More than 300,000 people traveled to western states during this time in search for their share of gold. California was the main hotspot for this mining activity, but a smaller gold rush in the Town of Bannack Montana became an epicenter for high tension, stealing, and murder. Today the Town of Bannack is known as one of the most activate paranormal ghost towns in the entire world. Grown men screaming, an apparition of a man in black, and a teenage girl in a blue dress are all said to haunt the grounds of this once bustling mining town.
Bannack, Montana was a wild gold mining town with no sheriff to keep the peace until Henry Plummer came along and he turned out to be the worst criminal of them all. Brothels dotted the streets, as did saloons and within its first fourteen months of existence, seven people had been executed. The life of the town was short lived and unlike its sister cities of Helena and Virginia City, Bannack became a ghost town. The state government maintains the property and they have chosen to keep it in its dilapidated state. And perhaps that is why it seems that some ghosts are frozen in time here. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the ghost town of Bannack! This is a true Wild West story. David Updyke was a native New Yorker who came west to mine gold. He would end up as sheriff of Ada County, Idaho after being installed to that office by agents of Henry Plummer, the infamous outlaw and sheriff of Bannack, Montana. Updyke used his position to allow his gang of outlaws to terrorize the countryside. Until a young Billy McConnell stood up to the bullies. *Also, make sure you listen for that next clue in the Silver Skull Treasure Hunt.* Orginal artwork copyright Cascadia Podcast 2018

Today on Historically Speaking, we're taking a turn into history and visiting Bannack MT, the first town in the new Montana Territory. Bannack Days: http://bannack.org/bannack-days Easy drive, gorgeous, from the I-90 either at the Whitehall exit or Twin Bridges. Besides the beauty of the area, Bannack visitors get to explore inside most of the buildings. You can also camp right there along a river in a state park campsite. You'll need a full day to visit Bannack, be sure to bring a picnic! Also bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray. Go early to avoid the hot afternoons. Famous story originating in Bannack is the double life of Henry Plummer, sheriff by day and leader of road bandit gangs by night! See the photo gallery below...
Henry Plummer was like so many young men who ventured into the frontier of mid-nineteenth century America; full of a spirit of adventure and eager to make their fortunes in the gold fields of the Old West. Handsome, charismatic and ambitious, Plummer soon went from trying his hand at prospecting to a career in law enforcement and was even encouraged to enter California politics by his supporters. Plummer's successes, however, were tainted by his foibles as it was noted that his evening activities sometimes put the wild in "Wild West." A move to Bannack, Montana, and election as sheriff of the area promised to restore his career and reputation. This fresh start at the bottom of Plummer's pan would prove to be just a flash, as the townsfolk would soon suspect his connection to the robberies and murders allegedly committed by a gang of Road Agents who came to be known as "The Innocents" and many speculated he might even have been the mastermind behind the purported crime wave. But was Plummer actually guilty, or just guilty by association and a victim of circumstance and mob mentality? Whatever the truth of the matter, Sheriff Henry Plummer eventually found himself at the end of his rope. Henry Plummer left Addison, Maine, in 1852, and traveled west to make his fortune in the gold mines... To some, he was thought of as a murderous, villainous, outlaw; yet to many, he was a trustworthy lawman, the marshal of Nevada City, California, and sheriff of Bannack, Montana. In 1863, with the rise in murders and robberies in the gold fields of Montana, came a rise in Montana Vigilante justice, of which Henry Plummer and his supposed band of outlaws, aptly named "The Innocents", would experience first-hand on the very gallows that Plummer himself had built as Sheriff of Bannack Montana.
