Steam Locomotives were some of the most powerful machines ever built. They represent vision, ingenuity, collaboration, and extraordinary human achievement. However, to get to the next destination, they had to be directed to the mainline. This required someone directing the train through a series of switches to reach the right destination. Just like these amazing machines, leaders and organizations alike need the right direction to reach their destinations. Intelligent Leadership is the key to success and cultural transformation. With over 50 years of combined success in executive leadership, cultural transformation, and executive and emerging leader development, Rich Baron and Maikel Bailey bring to light some of the most pressing issues facing leaders and organizations today. Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!Let's ask the question that's been whispered in boardrooms and sidestepped in leadership circles: Why do so many executives avoid executive coaching? For some, it's the fear of vulnerability—admitting they don't have all the answers. For others, it's the misconception that coaching is only for struggling leaders, not top performers. And let's not forget the pressure to appear confident, competent, and in control. Afterall, you've made it to the corner office, so by default, you're already a master of the leadership craft. There's no need for a coach here. But here's the truth: even the world's greatest leaders—those who have built empires, transformed industries, and shaped the future—know that growth never stops. Coaching isn't about fixing flaws; it's about sharpening strengths. So why does resistance persist?Based on the book, "Accelerating Leadership," co-authored by Eric Hicks, PhD, PCC, and Lance Hazard, PCC, CPCC, we are discussing six specific values that executive coaching brings to leaders enhancing their success and abilities.Join Rich and Maikel as we explore the reasons why, as a leader, executive coaching should be a priority in your career on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!A few years back, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) were championed as the remedy for workplace inequities. It aimed to create a future where marginalized voices, justice-impacted individuals, and underrepresented communities could achieve equitable standing in a corporate world historically defined by systemic bias. It did not work that way, not even close.Mandatory diversity training became platforms for personal agendas, and terms like 'equity' became buzzwords used without clear definitions, which made them easy targets for criticism and left employees feeling confused or alienated rather than inspired. CEOs are now halting their DEI initiatives due to years of 'guilt hiring' individuals with civil rights backgrounds instead of those with corporate expertise. The once hottest position in America, Chief Diversity Officer, is now viewed as nothing more than a token position with no real power to make effective organizational change. In short, DEI turned into a barrage of unmet promises, poor communication, and the manipulative weaponization of what was intended to be a unifying concept. So why is DEI now DOA?Join Rich and Maikel as we tackle DEI on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Maybe sporting a little more gray than you did just a few years ago. You may have just lost your job, or feel that ageism has crept into your office and you are getting lost because the system doesn't know how to value people approaching or after 50. Yourself included. The simple fact of the matter is that age-based discrimination is alive and well, the workforce is becoming increasingly multi-generational, and careers are becoming less linear and more portfolio-based. Worse yet, the hiring system is broken! So instead of trying to turn back the clock, or try to repeat the years,  you need to take back control over your career, define the value you deliver, and get your network to sell that for you.John Tarnoff is a career transition coach who helps people build more sustainable, meaningful, and purposeful careers that align with their values and their most prized talents.John joins Rich and Maikel as we discuss the importance of redefining age and careers on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT.John can be reached at: https://johntarnoff.com/ Leaders, Lead Well!Thank you to all of our listeners in over 70 countries and 750 cities worldwide, we greatly appreciate your support! Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!In music, some of the most memorable performances aren't about the notes musicians play—they're about the ones they leave out. The spaces between the sounds create rhythm, swing, and connection. What if leadership worked the same way? Take Count Basie's band, for example. Basie was famous for his minimalist piano style—he played fewer notes, giving the rhythm section room to groove and the soloists space to shine. The result? Music that felt effortless and alive. Leaders, like musicians, often feel the pressure to “play every note”—to solve every problem, attend every meeting, or micromanage every decision. But just as music depends on collaboration, so does effective leadership. Leaving space allows team members to take ownership, contribute creatively, and create synergy.Rich and Maikel jam to the beat of less is more on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT.  Leaders, Lead Well!Thank you to all of our listeners in over 70 countries and 750 cities worldwide, we greatly appreciate your support! Fast forward to today and we now offer remedial English and Math in college. Several other important lessons such as accountability, problem-solving, self-discipline, and simply showing up seem to be less important than making sure that everyone gets a blue ribbon, or a pass to the next level whether it is earned or not. After all, we don't want to leave anyone behind even if they failed to put in any effort at all. It just wouldn't be fair.So how does this impact today's leaders? Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!In the old west town of Bannack, Montana, during the 1860s, people decided to take back their town from the dishonest, stealing, and evil people that were there. The term 3-7-77 was painted on the doors of the bad folks which meant two things.First, it meant you have 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 77 seconds to get out of town or you faced the consequences of the second meaning of 3-7-77 which are 3 feet wide, 7 feet deep, and 77 inches long; the dimensions of a grave. The bad guys got the message pretty fast and left town even faster. However, and no surprise here, those who pushed their luck found out that the town folks were not kidding around when the time wound down.Fast forward to today and no matter where you look be it politics, organizations, social media, media outlets, or social media, we are surrounded by dishonesty. The constant barrage of lies, misinformation, and lack of accountability has led to a culture of destruction, theft, depression, and violence. The prevalence of dishonesty and its impact on society is mind numbing! The problem is that the lines have become so blurred, that it is difficult to tell when leaders are telling the truth and to what end are they being held accountable. Does this mean that all leaders are dishonest? Absolutely not! There are some great leaders in every walk of life that we must get behind and follow. However, it is critical to know who those great leaders are and which ones we need to watch out for.Rich and Maikel discuss the impact of dishonest leadership in this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Other studies in American workplaces show that people with toxic bosses are more susceptible to chronic stress, depression, and anxiety, all of which increase the risk of a lowered immune system, colds, strokes, and even heart attacks. In many instances, the results show that it may take up to 22 months to recover physically and emotionally from a toxic boss.  While the idea of quitting may be intimidating, staying in a job with a toxic boss can be even more frightening. Rich and Maikel discuss the issues surrounding quitting bad bosses in this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT.  Leaders, Lead Well!Thank you to all of our listeners in over 70 countries and 650 cities worldwide, we greatly appreciate your support!
