In today's episode I have the pleasure of welcoming back Dean Hall (www.thewildcureway.com) to the show. Dean and I explore how movement may help harness the superpowers of the brilliant ADHD mind. About Dean Dean has been a licensed clinical therapist and coach for over 30 years. Astonishingly, in that time he has conducted over fifty thousand face-to-face, one-hour sessions. Besides being a best-selling author, and highly sought-after speaker, Dean is also a two-time cancer survivor, widower and two-time world record-setting extreme distance swimmer. He is the first person to swim the entire 187-mile length of Oregon's longest river, the Willamette River, (which he did as an active cancer patient) in 2014, and Ireland's longest river, the River Shannon (180 miles), in 2017. This much time spent immersed in the flow of mighty rivers has changed Dean's life in many dynamic and miraculous ways. His Willamette River swim threw Dean into radical remission unexpectedly healing his leukemia without chemo or radiation while easing his trauma and grief from losing his wife fifteen days before their thirtieth anniversary. Buoyed by his firsthand experience of the healing power of nature when his lymphoma worsened and doctors once again pushed him to do chemo and radiation Dean chose to try Forest Bathing first. Dr. Qing Li's research on the proven efficacy of time spent in forests and how it boosted NK (Natural Killer) cells and the immune system by over two-hundred and fifty times for a period of two weeks gave Dean the courage to decide instead for a weekly regimen of forest bathing instead. In May of 2015, he started spending all day once a week forest bathing deep in the Mt. Hood Wilderness and by March of 2016 he was declared cancer free. These gifts of natural healing pushed Dean to make it his organization, The Wild Cure Way, whose mission is to encourage the world to get out of concrete jungles, manmade boxes and away from digital devices and dive into wild waterways and venture into deep forests as a form of authentic deep healing and, oddly enough, environmental protection. He believes it's impossible to swim in wild waters or amble through ancient forests without falling in love with them and like Jacque Cousteau used to say, “You protect what you love.”
Meet Dean Hall, a licensed therapist, a world record swimmer, and a two-time cancer survivor who swam the length of the Willamette River to cure his leukemia. At the beginning of the episode, Dean shares the deeply personal story of his marriage, the loss of his wife, and his fight against cancer. Halfway through the episode, we talk about how to drive human behavior. Discover a powerful hack to propel yourself towards achieving your goals and develop the will to commit to them. At the end of the episode, Dean unveils the concept of the Big Dream, a profound connection to the purpose of life we all seek. Dean also shares how he overcame cancer; the story will surprise you. I hope you enjoy this episode and find moving forward with your dreams and goals inspiring. Check Out More of Dean's Content Here

He is the first person to swim the entire 187-mile length of Oregon's longest river, the Willamette River, (which he did as an active cancer patient) in 2014, and Ireland's longest river, the River Shannon (180 miles), in 2017. Country Hall of Fame member Tom T. Hall's death at 85 in 2021 was by suicide, officials in his native Williamson County, Tennessee, have confirmed to reporters. The cause of death was first reported Wednesday by the website "Saving Country Music" which followed up on multiple comments posted on a year-end In Memoriam piece and confirmed the cause of death with Williamson County's medical examiner. Rolling Stone also confirmed the coroner's determination of suicide with county officials. The report obtained by Saving Country Music showed that Hall “had sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, to the head, on the morning of 8/20/2021. A 911 call was placed at 1115 hours on 8/20/201. Williamson County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) and Williamson Medical Emergency Medical Services (WMC EMS) responded to the call. Paramedics confirmed death at approximately 1133 hours, due to obvious injuries.”Port's Award Winner Tom T. Hall speaks onstage at the 5th Annual ACM Honors at Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 19, 2011, in Nashville, Tenn.Frederick Breedon IV / Getty Images fileHall's son, Dean Hall, also a musician, had announced his father's passing without offering a cause of death. He subsequently deleted his social media accounts, the website reported, and did not respond to requests for comment. After being one of the biggest country stars of the 1970s, and certainly one of the most revered for his artistry among country cognoscenti to the present day, Hall had long since retired from performing and recording. Performing only sporadically after the mid-1990s, he delivered his last performance in 2011, saying he preferred enjoying life on the farm with his wife, Dixie Hall, and thought newer generations should have their day.He was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2019, Hall was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Other honors ranged from becoming a Grand Ole Opry member in 1971 to receiving a tribute from BMI with its Icon award at the org's annual Nashville awards dinner in 2017.Hall, nicknamed “The Storyteller” for his unadorned yet incisive lyrics, composed hundreds of songs. As a songwriter, he was known for hits for others, like “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” recorded by Jeannie C. Riley in 1968, as well as his own unusually literary No. 1 country singles of the 1970s like “The Year Clayton Delaney Died” and “(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine.” He was also famous for the prosaically titled “I Like Beer,” a top 10 hit in 1975. Among his best known songs were “I Love,” which spent two weeks at the top of the country chart in 1974 and crossed over to the top 40. Among some modern fans, he might be best recognized for the oft-covered “That's How I Got to Memphis,” which has become an Americana standard.Patterson Hood of the band Drive-By Truckers called Hall “the greatest storyteller songwriter of all time” upon hearing of his death. “A writer's writer. There's at least a dozen categories of song that he wrote arguably the best ever example of.”Dixie Hall, who achieved her own fame as a songwriter and collaborator, died in 2015. Dean Hall, his son from a previous marriage, is Hall's only child.

In 2014, while still an active cancer patient, Dean Hall decided to inspire other cancer patients by chasing his dream of becoming the first person to swim the entire 187-mile length of the Willamette River, never guessing it would heal his leukemia. 03:35: Well, I fell in love with soccer and so I played it constantly. 05:52: I became a therapist and started my private practice in this tiny little town,08:11: It never occurred to me that it came back bad because something was wrong with me. 10:06: Dean, you've got leukemia. 12:14: I was just in shock for about two weeks and devastated. 14:28: You've got to be the boss of your journey and your body and your future. 16:51: Did you ever do what would be considered traditional treatment? 19:17: I would sleep 20 hours a day. 21:20: Tell us about your first wife. 22:56: Then August of 2010, she started acting kind of funny. 25:52: I was astonished, and it is a real testament to her strength and her discipline. 29:44: All the rest of the time I'm just by myself feeling miserable both inside and out. 32:15: I started praying and meditating, asking every day for a purpose to just come forward. 34:08: If I'm dying, I want to die swinging for the fence. 35:30: The lymph system had pushed out all this poison that it had been holding and so I'd feel flu-like symptoms for about five hours after. 37:59: I was born only four blocks from the Willamette, so I've always loved this river. 40:17: After you did [do] this swim over three weeks, what happened? 42:49: Being in that cold water threw me into something called Radical Remission. 44:09: What is one thing you wish you had known at the very beginning of your cancer journey? 44:50: If you could only do one thing to improve health care in the U.S., what would it be and why? 45:49: Thriver Rapid Fire Questions. 48:23: Aside from Cancer U, what is one resource you would recommend for cancer patients and caregivers? In this episode of A New Way of Living, I interview Dean Hall about how cold water swimming saved his life, how to work through past trauma, Wim Hof Method, how to find love, and the power of gratitude. Dean has been a licensed clinical therapist and coach for over 30 years. Astonishingly, in that time he has conducted over 50,000 face-to-face, one-hour sessions. Besides being an author, and highly sought-after speaker, Dean is also a two-time cancer survivor, widower and world record-setting extreme distance swimmer. He is the first person to swim the entire 187-mile length of Oregon's longest river, the Willamette River, (which he did as an active cancer patient) in 2014, and Ireland's longest river, the River Shannon (180 miles), in 2017. His Willamette River swim threw Dean into radical remission unexpectedly healing his leukemia without chemo or radiation while easing his trauma and grief from losing his wife fifteen days before their 30th anniversary. One of Dean's greatest achievements, however, is chasing and catching the gorgeous fitness competitor, Bobbi Parker Hall. ➢Become a skilled and well-rounded breathwork facilitator with Breath School, an in-depth, 6-month breathwork program. https://ourbreathcollective.com/courses/teacher-training. In this podcast, the legendary Dean Hall joins Stephen Scoggins to talk about everything from swimming to how to attract the love of your live. Dean Hall is the first person in history to swim the entire 184 miles of the Willamette River in Oregon. He accomplished this feat in June of 2014 while he still had active leukemia and lymphoma to prove to cancer patients around the world that you don't have to give up your dreams or your drive simply because you've received a diagnosis. Now, cancer free, he continues to go to great lengths to raise money for cancer research and spread his inspirational message of healing and hope around the world.
