Isaac Lidsky “may possess the most eclectic resume in entrepreneurship” according to Inc. Magazine. He played series regular “Weasel” on Saved by the Bell: The New Class; graduated from Harvard College at age nineteen with a degree in mathematics and computer science; graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude; served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg; argued more than a dozen appeals in federal court on behalf of the United States and never lost a case; started a tech company that sold for $230 million; transformed a struggling $15 million concrete subcontractor into an industry-leading $150 million construction services company in five years; and founded Hope for Vision, a nonprofit organization that funds the development of treatments and cures for blinding diseases. Lidsky was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare degenerative disease of the retina that caused him to gradually lose his sight. Lidsky lives in Windermere, Florida with his wife, Dorothy; their triplets, Lily Louise, Phineas, and Thaddeus; and baby Clementine. Favorite Success Quote “Try not to become a man of success, rather become a man of value” ~Albert Einstein Key Points 1. Make Your Own Definition of Success Each and every day, we are bombarded by images, videos, and social diatribes about what it means to be a success. Fancy cars overtake us in traffic, well-dressed men dating beautiful models captivate our attention, and the “Houses in the Hills” earn both our scorn and envy. And most of us allow this societal autopilot to determine our goals, dreams, and ambitions. We all want to make millions, sleep with beautiful women, and have a luxurious lifestyle, but we never stop to ask ourselves why. We define our success by the world’s standards instead of our own, and as a result, most of us are angry, confused, and frustrated. But there is another way. You have the power to create your own definition of success. To decide for yourself what is important and what is not. To create your own goals based on your deepest values and desires. Forget what society says. Success is subjective. If you wake up each morning, happy, fulfilled, and full of life, then you are a success. The only question that remains for you to answer is “What is my definition of success”? 2. Your Reality is Determined by Your Choices  If you are drawing breath and reading this paragraph right now, then chances are, you have been through the ringer. And if you haven’t, then you might want to put on your raincoat, because there are a couple of storms on the horizon that are headed in your direction. Struggle is an axiom of the human experience. Everyone has challenges, problems, and setbacks. So why is it that two people who are faced with exactly the same circumstance can create massively different results? One simple word. Choice. In each moment, you have the power to choose how your circumstances will affect you. You can choose to believe that life is happening for you, that everything happens for a reason, and that you will achieve your goals and dreams. Or you can choose to believe that life is happening to you, that people are all inherently evil and trying to hurt you, and that you are doomed to a life of failure. The choice is yours. But as the Knight in Indiana Jones said “Choose wisely.” 3. There is No Tomorrow  Yesterday no longer exists. It is nothing more than a series of mental projections that often occurred in a completely different manner than you remember. Tomorrow has not yet arrived and never will. All that we have is right now. This present moment. Take a minute to appreciate it. Enjoy the next breath you take, feel the chair underneath you, listen to the sounds around you. Each moment that we have is a gift, you must learn to appreciate it and be grateful for it instead of waiting for a tomorrow or “Someday” that may never come. 4. Reframe Fears as Fiction In AA, they define fear as “False evidence appearing real”. And truthfully, that is all that it is. Most of the things that we worry about, lose sleep over, and allow to paralyze us will never come to fruition. The worst case scenarios almost never happen, and when they do, they are rarely as awful as we initially imagined. Fear is nothing but fiction. Every fear that is holding you back and preventing you from achieving your greatness is little more than fiction. It is a projection that your 10,000+ year old brain is creating to try and keep you safe from an imaginary fate. Realize this. Embrace this. And step into your fear and take massive action. 5. Get Congruent with Your Values  We live in a world that utterly and completely lacks integrity. I don’t mean this in the sense that we all run around lying and breaking our promises, but rather in the sense that what we think, say, and do rarely align. Most people think that they want to be rich, they say that they want to be well-off, and then they act like they want to be poor. People say think that they want to be shredded and healthy, they say that they want to be in “Decent shape”, and then they act like their body is a playground to use and abuse. People are rarely congruent and almost never in integrity with their values. You need to realize that you cannot have your cake and eat it too. You cannot say that you value health and well being and then abuse your body, skip the gym, and deprive yourself of sleep. You cannot say that you value wealth and then spend every penny you make and waste hours on end in front of the television. If you want to be successful, whatever your definition of success is, then the first step is to get in integrity with your values. What do you want? Say it. And once you say it, go and do it. It’s that simple.

As Inc. reported, “ISAAC  LIDSKY may possess the most eclectic resume in business.” Series regular “Weasel” on Saved by the Bell: The New Class, he graduated from Harvard College at 19 (cum laude) and from Harvard Law School (magna  cum laude); served as a Supreme Court law Clerk (to two Justices); was a Justice Department litigator (undefeated); and worked for an elite international law firm. He had a legal resume that most lawyers could only dream of. But after having his triplets, who required over 70 days in the NICU, Isaac re-evaluated what he wanted out of his life. He left the law to buy a failing construction subcontractor in order to try his hand out at entrepreneurship.   Though originally the jump seemed to be a failure, Isaac turned the company into a highly profitable construction services company (ten times larger) that now boasts annual revenue over $250 million.  I got to talk to Isaac about how he was able to walk away from law, after building such a prestigious career, to follow a path more true to himself.   Isaac credits his experience going blind in his early twenties from a rare genetic disease as being the reason he is able to create his own reality and live Eyes Wide Open. He gave a main stage TED Talk on the subject of living Eyes Wide Open that was viewed more than a million times in its first three weeks. He also has a book by the same name, “Eyes Wide Open”, that is a New York Times, USA Today and Indie bestseller, and was named one of the Washington Post’s top 10 leadership books to read in 2017.   I got to find out what it means to live Eyes Wide Open and how we can all strive to live that way. I’m endlessly inspired by Isaac and hope to live my own life with Eyes Wide Open.   Here is what we chat about in this episode: Why he walked away from the glamour of Hollywood after finding success on Saved By the Bell: The New Class. How he dealt with being diagnosed with a rare genetic disease as a teenager, knowing that he was going to go blind. How going blind taught him about the subjectivity of sight and how we create our own reality How fear replaces the unknown with the awful and how it keeps us stuck Why Isaac left the law, after an incredibly prestigious career, to run a construction company How he determined what was important in his life and how that changed his decision-making process How we can all live our lives Eyes Wide Open   Resources mentioned in this episode: Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl Where to find Isaac: Website: www.lidsky.com Twitter/Instagram/Facebook: @isaaclidsky Follow along for more: www.lessonsfromaquitter.com https://www.facebook.com/lessonsfromaquitter https://www.instagram.com/lessonsfromaquitter/ https://twitter.com/quitterpodcast

He is the only blind person to serve as a law clerk for the U.S. Supreme Court.Lidsky graduated from Harvard at 19 with an honors degree in mathematics and computer science. He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude. He founded a nonprofit organization to fund the development of treatments for blinding diseases and within 5 years grew it to a dozen cities nationwide and more than $5 million. The technology company he founded sold for $230 million. In 2016 Lidsky set out to share with others his empowering approach to living and leading, and he was promptly recognized as a visionary thought leader. Penguin Random House acquired for publication his first book, Eyes Wide Open, and it hit the shelves as a New York Times best seller in March 2017. Isaac Lidsky comes onto the Cashflow Diary podcast to give you some much needed inspiration and to show you that you can achieve your vision for your life. As a successful child actor in a major sitcom, Isaac Lidsky was bound from Hollywood to Harvard, where he graduated by the age of 19 – all while losing his eyesight to a rare blinding disease, retinitis pigmentosa. Yet his future was bright. Today a blind CEO, author and acclaimed speaker, Isaac shares a remarkable story of courage and achievement amid tough challenges. America first saw Isaac as “Weasel” in NBC’s "Saved by the Bell: The New Class". As a teen, while his eyesight gradually diminished, Isaac began to reframe his outlook. Dispelling any notion of disability, Isaac honed his true vision. And his achievements kept mounting: following college, he not only spearheaded a start-up, but then studied law and graduated Harvard Law School magna cum laude; clerked for Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Sandra Day O’Connor, and argued and won more than a dozen appeals in federal court on behalf of the United States. As an entrepreneur and leader, Isaac’s first company sold for $230 million, and he then transformed a struggling Orlando subcontractor into the leading $150 million construction services company ODC Construction, he now leads as CEO. He also founded Hope for Vision, a nonprofit organization that funds the development of treatments and cures for blinding diseases.   Podcast Highlights Who is Isaac Lidsky? Isaac grew up in the Hollywood fairytale in a lot of ways. When Isaac was 13 he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and realized that he was destined to lose his eyesight. Isaac believed that he would end up alone and unremarkable, which obviously turned out to not be true. Where did the courage to continue come from? We all confront our challenges differently. In the face of crisis, our fears can step in and we often imagine the worst case scenario. Isaac lost his sight over the course of twelve years. The process of becoming blind made Isaac realize that we shape our own realities. In every moment, we get to choose who we want to be and how we live our lives. It’s an inescapable responsibility. Isaac had an epiphany in the office of his occupational therapist. He was choosing to live in the awful world that he had created for himself in his mind. He made a choice to live differently. How did you go from the doctor’s office to creating a company? What is it that you want to spend your time and your life on? What does success look like to you? You are living the answer to those questions every moment of your life, whether or not you are asking them consciously. Without your diagnosis, would your life look like the way it does? Isaac wouldn’t change a thing about his life. Going blind was one of the greatest unexpected blessings he has received. Changing your perspective We tell ourselves stories and limit ourselves. We listen to our fears and let them dictate the way we act. In the business world, entrepreneurs often set out to market the business or service that they want to sell. But it’s often more lucrative to create what your customers want to buy. Why did you write the book? EYES WIDE OPEN explores the vision and philosophy of choosing what you want to see. Isaac wrote the book with his children in mind in the hopes that they will read it in the future. Isaac does not have vision problems, he has sight problems. No matter what circumstances we are in, there are people who have done far more with much less and have lead happier lives. It’s not our circumstances that dictate our life, it’s how we view them

If you've ever been daunted or scared out of your mind, and had no idea how to overcome the obstacles you're facing then do we have the Eyes Wide Open show for you. Today I'll be talking with Isaac Lidsky, Magnu Cum Luade from Harvard Law School, law clerk for Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, entrepreneur, founder for Hope for Vision, teen star of Save by the Bell: The New Class, father of Triplets, and one of the most amazing, and inspiring people I've ever had the privilege of meeting, though I'm just meeting him now and he's the author of one of the most jaw dropping, unbelievable and inspiring books I have ever read, Eyes Wide Open. And that's just what I want to talk with him about today, about Overcoming obstacles and recognizing opportunities in a world that can't see clearly. Isaac Lidsky knew he was going blind, while he played the new “Screech”, or “Weasel” on the hit sitcom Saved by the Bell, the New Class. He raced to go back to school, get a degree and make a career for himself, assuming his life was over when he went blind. Well, he went blind at 25, and yet instead of darkness, could see more than ever before. He had triplets, a harrowing endeavor for his wife and him alike, bought a multi-million dollar company that was plummeting through the floor, and somehow turned it around. And in the middle of it all, worked as a law clerk for the two female Supreme Court justices. He has a powerful message to share on overcoming obstacles, and seeing way beyond your limitations, or living life Eyes Wide Open. Self-Improvement and Self-Help Topics Include:  When did he get his first TV commercial? How'd he end up becoming Weasel on Saved by the Bell, The New Class? How'd he end up going to Harvard at 16? What was happening to his eyes at the time? What does it mean that what we see is not real? What is the bias that's taking place with our sight? How was his blindness detected? What happened after being diagnosed? What was the fear like? Why was the fear worse than the diagnosis? What did he learn about fear by going blind? What is awfulizing? What happened after graduating from Harvard Law School? How'd he end up working for Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg What happened to his plans for starting a family? What were the 98 days spent in the hospital by himself and his wife How did he end up with triplets and what was their harrowing ordeal? How did he end up leaving law and buying a sinking company with three newborns? What happened just weeks after buying the company? What was the miracle that saved him from being completely wiped out? How did blindness give him vision? What did his wife do that helped him get through? What does it mean that strength tested begets strength? What did he learn about fear and how to view fear through the process? What do we all need to know about fear? What do we need to teach our kids about how to overcome obstacles and look at fear? What homework would he give us to live our own lives Eyes Wide Open? On Wednesday March 15, 2017, host Janeane Bernstein will chat with former Saved by the Bell star-turned-entrepreneur, Isaac Lidsky, who shares his journey of becoming blind…and then learning to see with “Eyes Wide Open.” In his popular new TED Talk "What reality are you creating for yourself?," former Saved by the Bell teen star-turned-entrepreneur Isaac Lidsky recalls how the sales person he waved to in the store was really a mannequin, and how he reached down to wash his hands and realized it was a urinal and not a sink. He learned of his diagnosis at thirteen: Retinitis Piegmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that would lead to his blindness by age 25. After initially believing his blindness signaled the end of his independence and achievement, Lidsky found other pathways of perception, turning his life around with his Eyes Wide Open philosophy. He graduated from Harvard Law School, worked as a law clerk under the guidance of Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and eventually became a highly successful entrepreneur and family man. In his new book EYES WIDE OPEN: Overcoming Obstacles and Recognizing Opportunities in a World That Cant’s See Clearly, Isaac Lidsky probes the many facets of perception, detailing the neuroscience of sight and drawing on his own experience to show how our perception shapes—and often limits—our reality. Isaac Lidsky will share how his journey taught him to: · face fears in moments of crisis or extreme change and shape his own reality; · focus his viewpoint when it came to so-called “weaknesses;” · tackle the perception of luck; · listen with “eyes wide open” to better understand what others are communicating. Isaac Lidsky shares how to live with freedom from self-limitations and to lead life with deeper awareness, understanding, accountability, and success. About the Author: Isaac Lidsky has an eclectic resume. He played “Weasel” on Saved by the Bell: The New Class; graduated from Harvard College at age nineteen with a degree in mathematics and computer science; graduated from Harvard Law School and served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg; transformed a struggling $15 million concrete subcontractor into an industry-leading $150 million business; and founded Hope for Vision, a nonprofit that funds the development of treatments for blinding diseases. Lidsky was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare degenerative disease of the retina that caused him to gradually lose his sight. Lidsky lives Florida with his wife and four children.
