Welcome to Jake's Happy Nostalgia Show, the podcast where nostalgia comes alive! In today's episode, we chat with writer and author, Ellis Weiner. From his early days as an editor at National Lampoon and columnist for Spy Magazine, to his work with the Muppets (including writing the mock behind-the-scenes book The Great Muppet Caper!: The Making of the Masterpiece!), Ellis has left his mark on comedy. But he's also touched the lives of countless children through his work in television. He co-created the beloved PBS series The Puzzle Place and contributed his writing talents to shows like Reading Rainbow, Shining Time Station, The Noddy Shop, Clarissa Explains it All, Bear in the Big Blue House, Barney & Friends, and Between the Lions.
The Nostalgia Junkies kick off the episode discussing their favorite iconic entries into the Super Mario and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises that are hated by fandoms. The boys then share their recent pickups in their mail call segment. Alex opens a pack of shirts from Tees by Eazy and Cruz shares a big piece he's adding to his collection. Alex and Cruz then fire off a round of This or That: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers vs. TMNT, Slap Bracelets vs POGs, Secret Life of Alex Mack vs Clarissa Explains it All. Next the boys get into the Meat and Potatoes of the episode. Who from iconic teen movies would you want to sit with at the lunch table? Alex and Cruz both choose five people from iconic movies from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s to join them for lunch. Table mates range from Clueless to Teen Wolf to American Pie. Who would you want to sit with? Finally, the Nostalgia Junkies close out the episode with their continuing trivia battle! Can you answer the questions they miss? This week we watched the TV movie Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas, and we have thoughts. A lot of them. We also lightly chat about Clarissa Explains it All and have a My So-Called Life check-in. Good stuff.
My So-Called Life lives again! This week, we're chatting about how MSCL was saved from oblivion, resurrected on cable. What made MTV such a perfect home for this show -- better, in fact, than the network where it originally aired? Joining me this week for a chat about MTV is the delightful Peppermint: Drag Race icon, actor, singer, and child of the 90s. Then I'll dive even further into the decade with James, in a conversation touching on David Bowie, adult animation, Clarissa Explains it All, and why James once spent a week wandering town in his underwear.Check out Peppermint's new book club with Hugh Ryan here, and her Drag PAC here.
Not only did Melissa Joan Hart jump start our pop culture obsession, but she seems to have navigated child stardom with grace. We talk to the "Clarissa Explains It All" and "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" star about the characters she relate to most, eldest daughter syndrome, and what it's like working with her mom. Plus, our eternal gratitude for putting "Sabrina's" on the map. Join us. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In part 1 of our discourse on Nickelodeon we talk about the founding of the network & the so called "Orange Years" (1983-1996) while trying to gain a broader understanding of everything that happened at Nickelodeon. From shows like You Can't Do That on Television and the introduction of slime and competition shows like Double Dare to scripted series like Salute Your Shorts, Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains it All & Are You Afraid of the Dark? In the 1980's and early 90's Nickelodeon was a cornerstone for kids programming but how did a network which basically started as public broadcasting with the intent of making children feel seen become a safe haven for some of the most predatory people in the entertainment industry? (content warning: this episode does not discuss the documentary Quiet on Set or the allegations made in that series (that starts in part 2) but abuse is still referenced as well as predatory practices of adults in the entertainment industry)Sources:The Orange Years (documentary)Slimed! Text us and say hello! When it came to Nickelodeon in the late 90s and early 2000s, you had something for pretty much everybody. You had the cartoons (Nicktoons), the game shows and sports (Nick GaS), and you had shows for the older crowd, in a weekly programming block called SNICK. Every Saturday night, older kids could watch anything from sitcoms (Clarissa Explains it All) to sketch comedy shows (All That) to scary stories (Are You Afraid of the Dark). Seriously, it was one of the best 2-hour blocks of TV in the 90s. AND it's what we're covering this week in Part 3 of the New Year's Nonstop Nickelodeon Extravaganza! I also have a very special guest this week, Ty from the Whiskeylodeon Podcast!Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)
Episode 1 Show Notes: Let's Go Back to the Beginning... Welcome to Home, Addressed! We passionately believe that the best, most beautiful spaces tell our personal style stories. So in this first episode, we revisit the places and spaces that first introduced us to interior design: our childhood homes (s/o to our Moms!), our favorite tv and movie homes, and other formative people and places from our pasts. Here are the three takeaways from this episode: 1) Consider what you loved most about your childhood home and try to recreate those feelings. This can be searching out pieces of furniture (try digging through your parents' attic!), revisiting paint colors you loved or cushy chairs where you read books. Engaging your senses in nostalgic sights, smells or sounds will likely bring joy and comfort. 2) Jog your memory for other people you encountered who had great personal style: maybe it was that stylish old lady at church or a neighbor who decorated like no one was watching. Channel them to step outside of your comfort zone. 3) Rewatch films, books, movies you loved as a kid and teenager for inspiration. This practice will make your inner child feel loved and also remind you that design trends are cyclical and classic pieces are timeless. A few favorite movie/tv homes: *Father of the Bride house *Clarissa Explains it All room (Margo loves the red and pink quilt, Jourdan loves how Clarissa's rebellious self-expression) *Cher's way normal closet (as if!) *Berenstain Bears treehouse *Miss Honey's house in Matilda *Angelina Ballerina *Little Women *Brambly Hedge Other related articles: *How our childhood homes shape us *Reimagining a childhood home (with a Hollywood twist)

Greetings, fellow listeners. I'm once again all alone in mi casa because my family is out celebrating my sister's birthday. So I decided to pass the time by conversing with our sixth official guest who is associated with guests five and four, Louis Jerez and Steve Arintok. She is Clarissa Barrientos, the receptionist at Thump Gym and Fitness and a mutual friend of mine. We had a cordial discussion over the phone about her Tucson background, her work at Thump, debating on her ethnicity, our methods of staying fit, our favorite kinds of old school rock n' roll artists, and how I inspired her to create her own podcast. Big happy 25th birthday to my sister Mariana and 27th to my friend Nico. Many more to both of you!!!

For some strange reason, Ferg-face makes it to the top of this list just before the very best episode. Dev and Chris discuss a very different episode of Clarissa which switches its focus towards the lesser younger brother.
Two words: Da Beek. James Van De Beek graces us with his presence in this episode as Jade, Clarissa's alter ego, takes center stage. It's a weird one so settle in.
Is it a ghost? Or is it Ferg-face up to his old tricks? Only time will tell, but Dev and Chris enjoy breaking down this episode and it's strange twists and turns.
The dreaded school picture. We've all been there and some of us have made it to the other side to tell the horror stories. Clarissa is in the same situation and is attempting to deal with it. Chris and Dev breakdown the infamous picture day and Clarissa's many outfit choices for it.
Brace yourself, the 6th episode might be a tear-jerker because our beloved Sam is moving for good...or is he? Either way, Dev and Chris talk about how well-loved he is among the Clarissa fans. Enjoy!
Our 7th favorite episode is Misguidance Counselor which focuses on Clarissa's ambitions and career paths. Dev and Chris discuss not only all of the choices Clarissa has but also her extremely unique fashion sense.
Clarissa is an enigma wrapped inside a riddle and with Me 101 the show seeks to help us understand just what she's about. Dev and Chris discuss the iconic character and her interesting family in the latest episode of our Nickelodeon Rewind.
