We jump aboard this NFL season's biggest bandwagon with a look back at one of the league's most enduring, yet historically mediocre franchises - and the only club operational for the entirety of the post-AFL era to never appear in the Super Bowl. Bill Morris ("The Lions Finally Roar: The Ford Family. The Detroit Lions, And The Road To Redemption In The NFL") joins the podcast to help us wallow in the colorful, but supremely confounding history of pro football's Detroit Lions - especially during the last 60+ years of family majority ownership begun in earnest by William Clay Ford Sr. back in 1963. From the "Curse of Bobby Layne" to Billy Sims, from Barry Sanders to Matt Millen, and from the Pontiac Silverdome to 2008's historic 0-16 season - it's all here! Plus, we speculate whether this year will finally see the Lions return to NFL championship glory. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "The Lions Finally Roar: The Ford Family. Sims Wear is a British menswear brand delivering elevated wardrobe essentials produced from the best wool and textiles in the British Isles. Dedicated to quality, and to creating timeless luxury that will stand the test of time, Sims Wear is built on three pillars; the best grade fibre, the best yarn spinner, and the best knitter. The materials used are also a trio of excellence; Supima Cotton, Nomadic Cashmere, and Merino Lambswool create a collection of style and comfort crafted to last. Pieces are made to outlive trends, and everything is done in the UK, from the fibre carding and spinning, through to knitting, weaving, cutting and sewing. The Sims Wear look is all about simple wardrobe builders, a classically British aesthetic with modern quiet elegance at its heart. Colour, cut and fabrication is key, where Margate Beach meets Marylebone via Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales. Founded by Rory Bennett and Billy Sims-Hilditch, the brand was born with a quest to find the perfect jumper. Billy chose a classic, super-soft navy blue cashmere crew-neck from a premium British retailer. It fit beautifully, felt great on, and went with everything. Sadly after only one year, the jumper had fallen apart at the seams. Having spent considerable amounts of time and money on the purchase, frustrated Billy set about researching what made a good jumper. This was when the Holy Trinity of knitwear, which is now intrinsic to Sims Wear, was identified, the best-in class fibre, yarn spinner and knitter. When these three are in place, something beautiful is created. The ever present chase for lower prices has meant that over the years, brands which were once associated with quality, sadly no longer live up to those standards. In a further move towards sustainability, there is a Repair and Recondition service for knitwear. This means that if any unfortunate accidents befall your jumper, you can send it back to the brand to be repaired. Whether it's patches on the elbows, or simply a hole which can be darned, most issues if caught early enough can be fixed. In the process, jumpers will also be reconditioned by de-pilling it and washing it, making sure it's returned in exceptional condition. Who should we interview next? Text us here!Support the show

Hello, today I talk about the Lions yet again and how they at least tried to make a run for the Super Bowl but would fall flat in 1982 in the playoffs by the Former Washington Redskins and in 1983 by the 49ers. Also, running back Billy Sims would suffer a career-ending knee injury in 1984 but there is hope because a coach would get them back on the right track was hired as interim head coach in 1988. Wayne Fontes would ultimately steer the ship in the right direction in the 1990s. Also, another Hall of Fame running back by the name of Barry Sanders would be the face of the franchise in the 90s. But that episode and topic is for another day thank you for the amazing support on the podcast we are almost at 700 downloads on this podcast and next month will be the 4-year anniversary of my starting the podcast. On today's episode, the Detroit Lions were dealt what might be their most heartbreaking loss of All-Time when Justin Tucker hit a 66 yard Game-Winning Kick. So, I wanted to spend an Hour telling the story of 60-years of misery for the Detroit Lions in 6 Parts: 1960-1979, the Billy Sims 80's, Barry Sanders 90's, the Decent to Mediocrity after Sanders' retirement, 0-16, and the 2010s teams with 3 Generational Talents: Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford, and Ndamukong Suh. Some of the parallels are quite literally insane: As in doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results_____This show is Sponsored by BetOnline Sportsbook. When Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson following consecutive Super Bowl victories in 1994--and brought Barry Switzer out of exile to coach the Dallas Cowboys--it rocked the football world. Switzer fills in some vivid details from that indelible chapter of NFL history and talks about the great times he had along the way, including an epic Super Bowl XXX week in Arizona with Mike at his side. Switzer also recalls an ill-fated trip in a twin-engine aircraft while on the Oklahoma recruiting trail and the controversial call he made late in the 1995 NFL season that compelled some fans to call him “Bozo the Clown.”

Dentist turned Super Agent, Dr. Jerry Argovitz talked to me about all the behind the scenes negotiations and what really happens in Pro Sports, the NCAA, the NFL and everything in between. Jerry is the kind of guy who ruffles a lot of feathers. Years ago he started the USFL, the United States Football League, and also has the distinction of signing the #1 Draft Pick, Billy Sims to the FIRST Million Dollar Contract! Three years later Billy Sims sued Dr. Jerry Argovitz and the term "egregious conflict of interest" was coined. That contract that Sims signed with Argovitz, was deemed voidable. Great read for sports fans, parents of children pursuing a professional sports career, and even teens who want to get a real look at the high stakes money and mind games involved in pro sports. Chuck Fusina helped to lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to the 1979 Sugar Bowl against Alabama. Chuck was also the 1978 runner-up to the Heisman Trophy award to Billy Sims. In 1983, Chuck took over the starting quarterback job for the Philadelphia Stars of the upstart, United States Football League (the “USFL”) and Chuck proceeded to lead the Stars to three championship games winning two of them. Unfortunately, the USFL only lasted three seasons thanks to DONALD TRUMP, but those three seasons sure as hell were fun.
