In this episode, Mark is joined by Jonathan Van Maren of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform to discuss the future of the pro-life movement, and there are positive indicators. While the world may appear increasingly complex, it's worth noting that younger generations of Christians are showing a marked increase in their pro-life convictions. This is evidenced by the higher percentage of anti-abortion advocates among younger evangelicals, in contrast to their older counterparts. Reference: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/how-younger-voters-will-impact-elections-what-is-happening-to-the-white-evangelical-vote/ Additionally, Mark shares two notable pieces of news: First, in Indiana, a near-total abortion ban has been enacted. There are exceptions for rape, incest, and lethal fetal anomalies, which constitute only one percent of abortions, but 99% of babies will be saved. This law is a positive step in the ongoing efforts to protect unborn life. Life news: https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/indianas-near-total-abortion-ban-is-now-in-effect/?utm_source=featured-news&utm_campaign=usa Second, in Beverly Hills, CA, the D.C.-based DuPont Clinic, known for promoting all-trimester abortions, has been denied permission to build. While this might not permanently prevent the clinic from relocating within California, the decision is viewed as a momentary advancement in efforts to protect the unborn. My special guest this week is Jonathon Van Maren—columnist, author, speaker, podcaster and activist. Jonathon has a unique gift for expounding a logical and biblically-based worldview concerning the sanctity and dignity of human life and presenting it in a way that those who have not thought deeply about these issues are able to understand and apply. Jonathon is the Communications Director for CCBR (the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform) and offers his profound insights in blogs, podcasts and articles on his website: the Bridgehead. To access Jonathon's writing and podcasts visit:https://thebridgehead.ca
Democrats are adopting a playbook like that of activists in Ireland prior to the 2018 Irish abortion referendum. Now that Roe has been overturned, the pro-life movement must learn to combat the abortion movement's direct-democracy strategy. The establishment pro-life movement has so far failed to see that the reason we lost in the midterms is that the American people don't agree with us on abortion. And we need to change that. On today's program, Jonathon Van Maren, Communications Director for the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, discusses his piece in First Things outlining what pro-life activists need to do to defeat these constitutional amendments. To read Jonathon's opinion piece, go to: https://bit.ly/3VjI4Rd Additionally, I will address how I think we should respond to the announcement that Donald Trump is running for a second term as President. Abortion is one of the evilest scourges to plague our modern world. It results in the deaths of over 70 million innocent babies worldwide every year. It is the intentional destruction of life in the womb, made in the image of God and endowed by God with inherent worth, dignity and value. Yet so many today are silent on this horrendous issue. Even many Christians speak "softly" about the hard truth of the massacre of the unborn. However, we must deal truthfully with the problem if we are to prescribe the right cure. There is hope. But that hope is only found in the Gospel and from a genuinely Christian worldview. In this episode, in order to understand today's abortion industry, we take a look at its founder - Margaret Sanger. We see how her life and upbringing, the various radical ideologies she espoused (such as racism, Malthusian eugenics and Marxism), and her lifestyle all contributed to the shape of the abortion industry today. As we explore these things, we will see just how dark abortion is, but also how gloriously bright the light of the Gospel can shine into this darkness. Jonathon Van Maren joins the podcast to discuss what is going on with a hostile anti-abortion group called Abolish Human Abortion (AHA). This is the first of a two-part series. In this episode, Jonathon discusses AHA's origin, their slander of the pro-life movement, how they are not Wilberforce-style abolitionists, and how they're attempting to rewrite their history now. Host Dr. Brett Salkeld, ethicist, Dr. Charlie Camosy, and Jonathon Van Maren of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform continue their discussion on the overturning of Roe vs Wade by the US Supreme Court and the public discourse around the issue of abortion in Canada and the US. "I think if the pro-life movements can get together and get this data and then use that to make an informed argument for changes in public policy or shifts in public policy...I think that would be almost the starting point, to try to get as much data as we can so we're doing it in as informed a way as possible..."
Host Dr. Brett Salkeld is joined by ethicist, Dr. Charlie Camosy and Jonathon Van Maren of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform to discuss the recent overturning of Roe vs Wade by the US Supreme Court and the public discourse around the issue of abortion in Canada and the US. Show Snippet: "80% of Canadians don't know that it is not restricted at all. We go door-to-door having discussions on this...half the people you talk to will Google it and check it on their phone because they don't actually believe you that this is the case..."
On this episode, my guest, Blaise Alleyne, Eastern Outreach Director for the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, will discuss how the theory of change works backwards from the goal to figure out what must be done to achieve it. Rather than just working forwards and asking, "what can I do?", CCBR has established a way of strategic thinking that works backwards, asking "what must be done?" This is a powerful paradigm shift that transformed how CCBR approaches pro-life strategy locally in Toronto, and across Canada. As a student and volunteer activist, Blaise was inspired by CCBR's theory of change to end the killing in Canada, and now he is helping to carry out the strategy and make the vision a reality. Also, last week the National Right to Life Committee released an Open Letter to state lawmakers directing them to exempt women from prosecution of illegal abortions in states that attempt to outlaw abortion. For those of you who missed the letter, here is the link: https://www.nrlc.org/uploads/communications/051222coalitionlettertostates.pdf This letter has created some debate on social media, especially after a bill introduced in Louisiana that provided equal protection was changed to exclude women from prosecution. I give my thoughts on this letter that calls for state legislators to exempt women for prosecution for illegal abortions. Please watch/listen, share and leave a five-star review of the podcast. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Samuel Sey moved to Canada at age 10. His father suggested he'd rather Samuel wasn't born and walked out on his mother before Samuel's birth. As a former staff member at the Canadian Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Samuel started a blog in response to Black Lives Matter and their antipathy towards efforts to end abortion. Since 2018, when social justice ideology became widely accepted and promoted by prominent evangelicals, his blog has received 500,000 visitors and over 100,000 shares on social media—and it's rapidly growing. On this episode, among other things, Mark discusses Samuel's blog posts on social justice and the Evangelical Church, critical race theory, abortion, and Black Lives Matter. Hello!Thank you all very much for listening to this podcast! We're delighted this week to introduce our first Friday guest of this new season as our focus on "all of the prophets" unfolds. Gregg Cunningham is the Executive Director of the Centre of Bio-Ethical Reform based in California, USA. Greg is a former two-term Member of The Pennsylvania House of Representatives where he introduced legislation which ended public funding for abortion. He was also a prime sponsor of the Abortion Control Act. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Colonel with six years of active duty service and twenty-five years in the ready reserve. He is also a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Read Gregg's full bio here. In this guest session looking at the prophets, Greg steers us through Abraham Heschel's classic work of the same title. Read Gregg's full, 45-bullet-point excerpt here. We wanted to explore something of Heschel at this stage because of the importance he's made in our own understanding about the gift of prophecy in the Old and New Testaments. Nick's book, Body Zero, gives a whole chapter to one of Heschel's main insights - divine pathos. Here's what Heschel says in his opening chapter,"Indeed, the sort of crimes and even the amount of delinquency that fill the prophets of Israel with dismay do not go beyond that which we regard as normal, as typical ingredients of social dynamics . To us a single act of injustice--cheating in business, exploitation of the poor - is slight; to the prophets, a disaster. To us injustice is injurious to the welfare of the people; to the prophets it is a deathblow to existence: to us, an episode; to them, a catastrophe, a threat to the world."Please consider sharing this podcast to your networks for us!If you would like to support this podcast and/or our wider work, please see here.Calling YESHUA (a new film and song of worship calling for national repentance) will be available at the end of July 2021 - more info here. Jesus said that it would have been better not to be born than to betray Him (Matthew 24:26). Ecclesiastes says that it would be better not to exist if you don't have pleasure or honor (Ecclesiastes 3:3-5). What do we make of this? Many people will argue that it is merciful to abort a child because many aborted children would likely be born into homes of poverty, neglect, and abuse. And many Christians believe that babies go to heaven when they die. So, it is merciful to let a baby skip the pain of this world and go straight to the next?Check out the Center for Bio Ethical Reform: https://www.abortionno.org/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/karlgessler)

After college, Stephanie co-founded the Canadian Centre for Bio Ethical Reform and began traveling North America with our GAP displays. At a young age, Stephanie was already battle hardened because she faced her opposition courageously. However, if you know Stephanie, she is the personification of the gentle warrior: Compassionate and bold. Stephanie authored the book Love Unleashes Life which speaks about talking to the head and the heart of abortion advocates. Love Unleashes Life also the name of her organization. Mark gets her perspective on the abortion debate and asks the hard questions like: What about abortion in cases of rape, incest of life or the mother? 2. Shouldn’t abortion be kept safe and legal? By now, you have heard about the controversy surrounding the Netflix film Cuties. Let me clear, I have seen the movie nor do I plan on doing so. But I have seen and read enough to join the chorus of condemnation. The film has been rightly criticized for its sexual exploitation of children. For an excellent review of the film, read this: https://bit.ly/3hHdKeV The producers of the film defend it on the grounds it is documentary against the exploitation of children. But Netflix can’t criticize child porn by promoting it! The sad truth is we have been losing this battle for decades. It all began with the sexual revolution. Now, fifty years later we see the “Love has no age” movement gaining steam. Boycotting Netflix is a necessary. But we are so far behind the eight ball, we need something more to bring us back from the brink. Nothing short of a national spiritual revival will heal our land. Today, I will discuss the Netflix film with Jonathan Van Maren from the Canadian Centre for Bio Ethical Reform. We will also connect the dots between pornography and abortion. The fact is, both abortion and pornography are all about commodifying--and victimizing--those it consumes. Read more from Jonathan here: https://bit.ly/3c9rJsO If you have a Netflix subscription, cancel it. But much more needs done to reverse the trend of decades of perversion. In 1999, I was with Center for Bio Ethical Reform (CBR) leading the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP). We were invited to take the display to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC by the UBC Students for Life. Canada doesn’t have a first amendment. Instead, they have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which doesn’t provide the same freedoms we enjoy here in America. Upon are arrival in Vancouver, the university demanded CBR pay $10K for “security fees.” Instead of paying the fee, we sued the university. Despite that setback we still were able to train some students in pro-life apologetics. That is when I met the student leader for UBC Students for Life, Stephanie Gray. Eventually, Stephanie and her group were able to conduct the outreach at UBC. That experience launched our working relationship. This week's episode of The Van Maren Show takes listeners into the pro-life movement with Mark Harrington, the leader of Created Equal. Harrington spent over a decade working full-time to save babies in the final days of the Operation Rescue Movement and continuing with the Genocide Awareness Project with the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform. That is to say, he's been involved in varying degrees of the boots-on-the-ground pro-life movement. Van Maren starts off with his favorite question, “How did you get started in the pro-life movement?” Harrington tells the story of coming to Christ at 28 and then meeting his wife who was volunteering for a pregnancy resource center. It was her work with pregnant women, and her showing him a photo of an aborted baby that really changed the direction of his life. “You know, it was one of those things that you kind of feel the Holy Spirit just gripping your heart. And that changed my life. I mean, it was that quick; it was that immediate that I knew, at that point, I had to do something to stop the killing.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Why is it hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God? Is it actually impossible? Can you establish a kingdom of justice on earth without getting wealthy people to back your revolution? The Facebook Gestapo just banned Mark Harrington for an image he posted EIGHT YEARS AGO that compared victims of the Jewish Holocaust, American Slavery and human abortion. Can anyone say WITCH HUNT?! The "new" media (social and other online and independent media) is cracking down on what it calls "hate speech" and "fake news," which they define as anything that isn't POLITICALLY CORRECT. Will the new media survive if this madness persists? Second, Mark speaks with Jonathon Van Maren from The Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. Jonathon details the Canadian court system and its long and methodical suppression of free speech. Mark additionally deals with a question that many American Christians are currently asking: "Does God use natural disasters to judge nations?" You can watch The Mark Harrington Show LIVE every Thursday at 1pm ET on Created Equal Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. If you can't catch him live, you can subscribe to Mark via podcast to listen any time!
Ann Furedi of the British Preganancy Advisory Service (the UK's largest abortion provider) debates Gregg Cunningham of the pro-life Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. They debate the motion "This house believes that it is morally wrong for groups to approach women and display abortion imagery outside facilities which provide abortion services." Josh concludes his interview with Jojo Ruba, former staff member of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform and Executive Director of Faith Beyond Belief. After talking about the mission of Faith Beyond Belief, Josh asks a follow-up question from the previous episode, where Jojo made a comment about pro-lifers needing to be "more offensive." Josh asks, "How can you tell whether you should be more offensive or less offensive when talking to pro-choice people?" Afterwards Jojo and Josh answer a listener mail question from Mark in Hawaii: "I'm a new listener, and I'm trying to figure out exactly what your views are regarding human development and when a person comes into being and should be granted human rights. Most importantly and perhaps most difficult, when do you believe God endues a body/soul carrier with a soul in human fetal development and what are your reasons for that?" The episode includes a discussion of the Equal Rights Argument that Josh and the Justice For All team have been using lately, and what Jojo and Josh think about animal rights.
Today, TLFR hosts are very pleased to interview Stephanie Gray, co-founder of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. Stephanie has had the rare privilege of participating in several formal debates on abortion with pro-choice activists. Most recently, she was a featured speaker at the national Students For Life conference in January. We will be tapping into her vast amounts of knowledge and wisdom about the current state of the abortion debate. From the CCBR website: Stephanie is a seasoned and international presenter who began speaking in 1999 at the age of 18 and who co-founded her national organization (which has grown to almost 20 staff) at the age of 20. She has given pro-life presentations across North America as well as in the United Kingdom, Latvia, and Costa Rica. She has spoken at many post-secondary institutions such as the University of Toronto, York University, University of Calgary, Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, and the University of Sussex in England.
Josh interviews Jojo Ruba, former staff member of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform and Executive Director of Faith Beyond Belief. After talking about the pro-life presentations that have been protested and censored by Canadian pro-choice activists, Jojo answers the 9-question Life Report Questionnaire that has been answered by many other pro-life leaders in the past. I altered it a little for this interview, taking out the questions on stem cell research and euthanasia to focus more on the graphic pictures debate and how pro-lifers should treat pro-choice people. I love this quote from Jojo, in regards to what he does when he's talking to a pro-choice person: "I say a little prayer, and the prayer is this: 'Father, show me how I can love this person today.'" Questions: What did you get in trouble for as a child? What is your favorite movie, and why? What has been the pro-life movement’s greatest victory (or victories) so far? What has been the pro-life movement’s greatest failing or weakness? Graphic Pictures: Should we use them, and if so, how, when, and where? Is there a difference between showing non-graphic but disturbing images in public (like the human trafficking truck) and showing graphic images of abortion in public? How should pro-lifers interact with those who are pro-abortion-choice? What kind of tips are you offering students you train on how to treat pro-choice people with respect? What single thing should pro-lifers be doing that most are NOT doing right now?
