On today's broadcast we discuss a very sensitive yet crucial topic that few want to address- sexual danger and our children. The statistics are overwhelming when it comes to those who have been sexually violated and abused as children. As the Church, we must stand up to these threats against our children's purity and innocence. In their new book, Protecting Your Child From Predators: How To Recognize and Respond To Sexual Danger, Drs. Beth Robinson and Latayne Scott have laid out their observations and expertise from dealing with sexual abuse victims and help parents to map out a pre-emptive gameplan to protect and prepare their children to face the dangers in our fallen world. Dr. Robinson will be on the air with me to discuss the content and importance of this book in our culture as predators are among us.

Joining us for the discussion is Dr. Paul Copan, Christian theologian, analytic philosopher, apologist, and author. He is currently a professor at the Palm Beach Atlantic University and holds the endowed Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics. We'll discuss Dr. Copan's newest book, What Would Jesus Really Eat: The Case For Meat Eating, edited with Dr. Wes Jamison. In this work, a group of scholars have applied their expertise in biblical studies, theology, philosophy, resource management, communication, and generational pig farming to write an accessible response for Christians who rightly believe that meat-eating is a gift from God. This book responds to leading challenges from animal activism outside the church- offering important biblical and practical correctives to a growing but misguided compassion- and even to bullying within the church.

Join Devin & Melissa Pellew, Co-Chapter Directors of Ratio Christi at Winthrop University and Community Apologists, as they discuss topics related to biblical theology, Christian apologetics and worldview issues. This week we will be discussing the the topic of progressive Christianity with a special guest, apologist and blogger Alisa Childers. As a lifelong church-goer, follower of Jesus, and former contemporary Christian music recording artists with the award-winning group, ZoeGirl, Alisa experienced a period of profound doubt about her faith in her early thirties. It lead to a journey from unreasoned doubt into vibrant, intellectually informed faith and she is using her training and studies to help equip the body of Christ through her website. Today's topic on progressive Christianity will explore a very dangerous infiltration into the Church that is affecting believers- young and old alike. What is progressive Christianity? How do I identify if myself or my church has been shaped by progressive Christianity? You don't want to miss this informative and eye-opening discussion!
Join Devin and Melissa Pellew as they discuss topics related to Christian apologetics, theology and worldview issues. During this episode, we are joined by special guest, Melissa Cain Travis, an Assistant Professor of Christian Apologetics at Houston Baptist University, who serves on the Contributing Writers team at Christian Research Journal. She earned a Master of Arts in Science and Religion from Biola University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Campbell University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in humanities, her research focusing on the history and philosophy of science and the historical interaction of science and theology. Melissa worked in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research for five years after obtaining her undergraduate degree, and has spent more than a decade studying the science, theology, and philosophy pertaining to the origins debate. Melissa will discuss her newest book, Science and The Mind of The Maker: What the Conversation Between Faith and Science Reveals About God, which will release on July 3rd. In the book, Melissa explores the question of cosmic origins and our place in the grand scheme of things that has been debated for millennia. Why do we exist? Why does anything exist at all? Are We an Accident...or Not? Today's popular narrative, based on advancements in science, is that it all happened by natural, random processes. Melissa Cain Travis points to powerful evidence that the opposite is true—that cosmology, astronomy, biochemistry, and other disciplines strongly support what she calls "The Maker Thesis," which explains the origin, rationality, and intricacy of nature and the human mind's capacity to comprehend it. Join us for this candid discussion and inside look into this new resource that is a must have!
Join Devin & Melissa Pellew as they discuss topics related to biblical theology, Christian apologetics and worldview issues. This week, our special guest will be Dianna Williams, a native of Toronto, Canada and a graduate of Southern Evangelical Seminary, who holds a Master's in both Apologetics and Philosophy. Dianna will be discussing one of the ramifications for theology of the Feminist Movement, Feminist Criticism of the Bible, from content in the chapter she wrote in Basics of Biblical Criticism: Helpful or Harmful? that was published in 2016. Feminist criticism of the Bible is predicated on the idea that the biblical text is a tool of oppression both created by men and used by men to cement the second class citizenship of women. While some feminist critics champion the view that Christianity should be done away with altogether, there are many who believe a new interpretation of the Bible is warranted- one that implements women’s experience as the criterion by which to determine the usefulness and authenticity of the biblical text.It may come as a surprise to some that the assumptions of feminist critics of the Bible aren’t just assumptions found in the culture or academy. They’re in the church too. These ideas aren’t just circulating in religious studies classes or gender studies classes; they’re also being contemplated by women who take their faith seriously—but aren’t quite confident in how to go about explaining that God isn’t a misogynist or the Scriptures weren’t invented by the patriarchy. Are there informed and rational answers to these ideas? Absolutely! Let's discuss!
Join Devin & Melissa Pellew, Co-Chapter Directors and missionaries of Ratio Christi at Winthrop University, as we discuss topics related to apologetics, theology and Christian worldview. What is critical theory? When dealing with social issues and injustices, race, gender issues, socio-economics, etc, is CT compatible or antithetical to the Christian worldview? Is it useful at all to the Christian? What is the connection between critical theory and social justice? How can we recognize when critical theory is in practice? On the air to discuss this topic with us is Dr. Neil Shenvi of Shenvi Apologetics. Neil is a theoretical chemist and homeschooling dad having received degrees from or having done post-doctoral work and research at universities such as Princeton, UC-Berkeley, Yale and Duke. Join us for this engaging discussion and feel free to direct any follow-up questions and comments to us at melissapellew@ratiochristi.org!
In this episode of Theology Matters, Devin & Melissa Pellew of Ratio Christi Apologetics Alliance interview apologist, theologian, best-selling author and professor, Nancy Pearcey. We will discuss Pearcey's newly released book, Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions About Life and Sexuality. Formerly an agnostic, Pearcey has been heralded as “America’s preeminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual” (The Economist) and in addition to Love Thy Body has authored Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity, which won a 2005 ECPA Gold Medallion Award, and How Now Shall We Live? (coauthored by Harold Fickett and Chuck Colson), which won a 2000 ECPA Gold Medallion Award, in addition to other works. Pearcey has been a visiting scholar at Biola University’s Torrey Honors Institute, professor of worldview studies at Cairn University, and Francis A. Schaeffer scholar at the World Journalism Institute. Currently she is professor of apologetics and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University, a fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture, and editor at large of The Pearcey Report.
Claire Culwell met her biological mother in March of 2009. Her birthmother told her that her life was a miracle. Claire's biological mom became pregnant at the age of 13. Her mother took her to an abortion clinic where she had a surgical abortion. A few weeks later she realized she was still pregnant so she found an out-of-state late-term abortion clinic to do a second abortion. At the clinic they informed her she had been pregnant with twins...ONE WAS ABORTED; ONE SURVIVED. They said it was too late to do a second abortion. Claire was born 2 weeks later. Claire was born 2 1/2 months early. She weighed 3 lbs. 2 oz. and was placed on life support. Her hips had been dislocated and her feet were turned inward - all because of the abortion. She was adopted shortly after birth by an amazing family who she wouldn't trade for the world! Claire now tells her story and speaks up for the unborn so that they can receive the same gift of LIFE she has! She shares her story of survival at many churches and pro-life events and was recently featured in an interview with Focus on the Family. What does it take to remove a planned and wanted newborn baby from the hospital? Two ingredients: the mother must be a rape victim, and the State must have no paper trail. Apparently, that is all it took for authorities to forcibly take Baby Braelon from his mother's arms shortly after birth. On TLFR today, we will be interviewing the custodial grandmother of the mother of Baby Braelon and two witnesses to the events that took place when the baby was seized, Juda Myers and Terri LaPoint. We will focus on the possible reasons for the seizure and what we can learn about the medical ethics violations involved that enabled this to happen. We will also discuss the trial and conviction of Stanford student and rapist Brock Turner. Why was his defense so laden with lies? What is it about his case that has everyone upset, yet strangely not upset enough?

Today, we discuss the pro-life implications and ramifications of a Hillary or a Trump presidency. Hillary Clinton has a well-known political agenda, and the outlook under a(nother) Clinton White House is worth discussing, even if predictable. A Donald Trump presidency has far more uncertainty as far as policy goes, and controversy over his potential leadership grows every day. How is a pro-life voter supposed to weigh the candidates? Given the wild-card nature of Trump, do the old rules even apply anymore? Letitia and Thomas discuss what every pro-life person needs to consider before heading to the polls in November.

Join Devin and Melissa Pellew, Chapter Directors of Ratio Christi at Winthrop University, each week at they discuss topics related to biblical theology, Christian apologetics and biblical worldview issues. Today, Devin will be sharing thoughts on how naturalists have hijacked science and illegitimately and erroneously imposed a dichotomy between the love of science and the existence and worship of God.
