The crowd, the bandstand, and the bar. We've got all the elements of The Roadhouse covered in this edition. The bandstand is full with Mary Lane, John Blues Boyd, Jimmy Johnson, Lurrie Bell, and Biscuit Miller & The Mix. The crowd is virtual. And, the bar is serving up blues, neat, with nothing in between that's even on the edge. It's all squarely down the middle and unquestionably another hour of the finest blues you've never heard, the 825th Roadhouse.

Preachin’ Blues is his newest release and contains 16 Freakchild songs recorded in the studios of KBOO in Portland, OR. Included are Freakchild Preachings between each cut. We’ll talk about the recording and more. Jeff Chaz is known as the Bourbon Street Bluesman. His latest release is Sounds Like The Blues To Me and it is a collection of a dozen new songs from Jeff. Some of these have never been played before they were recorded. We’ll chat with Jeff about this new album and his plans for 2017.

Biscuit Miller, who is only one a handful of bass players who leads a band, just released his third studio effort, the critically acclaimed Wishbone. Miller is a Blues Music Award Winner who recorded with the late Sonny Rodgers and Mojo Buford before touring with Lonnie Brooks for 10 years. Later he toured with Anthony Gomes and co-wrote the chart burner, “Testify.” Born and raised in Chicago, Miller is known for his high energy shows and his million dollar blues with a smile.

A home cooked BBQ smothered Christmas special featuring fine holiday blues, special guest Biscuit Miller and a live in-studio performance by the indie blues band Sonorous covering James Brown’s funky holiday classic, Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto. Good luck next week!! Black-Eyed News: This week’s Black-Eyed News included the announcement of the return of Ana Popovic to Black-Eyed Sally’s for the first time in 10 years. Our friends over at American Blues Scene have an article that is quite good about Bridging the Blues. “The Bridging the Blues idea is that the literal bridges are the bridges between Mississippi and Memphis and Arkansas. But it is also blues being the bridge to all other forms of music… and it all came outta here,” said Wesley Smith, Executive Director of the Greenville-Washington County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and originator of Bridging the Blues. He tells of how the concept came about. “We have a B.B. King Museum, we have a Blues Trail…we have arts councils that are doing blues photography exhibits and we have tourism… If only we could get everybody to do what they’re already doing, but get it into one week,” recalled Smith. That week begins with the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival/Highway 61 Blues Festival in Greenville, both beginning on October 4 and running throughout the weekend. The week “ends” with the King Biscuit Blues festival, held in Helena, Arkansas beginning on Thursday, October 10. Between the two festivals, and for several days on either side, are various performances by local musicians, museum exhibits, and tours by preservationist and Delta heritage expert, Luther Brown. Hopefully, visitors will return home understanding how the blues is itself an old and well-traveled bridge, a true American byway of a music tradition that is found time and again in other musical forms. While King Biscuit has a strict blues focus, Smith indicates the festival in Greenville will have a blues emphasis–as Hwy. 61 has had for years–but will combine that with performances from other types of music that find their origins in the rich music of the Delta. Sounds like another trip my wife and I need to take. http://www.americanbluesscene.com/2013/09/bridging-the-blues-from-the-delta-to-memphis/ Tonight Wednesday Sept 11th at Bridge Street Live in Collinsville Ct there is a Tribute to Little Walter at 8pm. Good luck next week!! Black-Eyed News: The first story this week I briefly mentioned at the beginning of the show it’s about the Documentary Ain’t In It For My Health which is at Real Art Ways in Hartford. It is a documentary about Levon Helm the drummer for The Band. Director Jacob Hatley's intimate documentary finds Mr. Helm at home in Woodstock, NY, in the midst of creating his first studio album in 25 years. Shot during the course of two-plus years, this highly anticipated film focuses in on the four-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member after his 2007 comeback album, Dirt Farmer, brought him back to the spotlight. "For the fans left bereft by his 2012 death, it's impossible to imagine a more exquisite, honest, and beautifully detailed documentary about the life of Levon Helm than Jacob Hatley's Ain't in It for My Health." - Peter Gertsenzang, Village Voice It is 83 minutes long and I recommend it to anyone that is a fan of The Band or Levon Helm. http://www.realartways.org/cinema.htm#levon The second story is about next weekend’s 2 Left Feet Bluesfest in East Hartland Ct. Sept 14,2013 in East Hartland Ct. the lineup includes Shemekia Copeland, Anthony Gomes, Biscuit Miller, Eddie Shaw, Rich Badowski, Lydia Warren, also Bobby Paltauf and Mosaic. If you want to read the review and also watch the first video that they shot for it the link will be in this week’s write up. Definitely go watch the video it was shot in a classic New Orleans club and is awesome. http://www.americanbluesscene.com/2013/08/samantha-fish-black-wind-howlin/ Lastly this week’s interview from Blues Blast is with Willie “The Touch “ Hayes who was Magic Sam’s drummer. He had to decide whether or not to go out on the road with Magic Sam at the age of 16. His decision may surprise you. It’s one of the best interviews form Blues Blast in a while and definitely worth the read. You can also find out who else he played with and what he’s doing now. In the 298th Roadhouse, you're encouraged to haul yourself out onto the sawdust-covered dance floor to generate some heat and sweat. But that's not much of a task. Biscuit Miller, Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers, Cash Box Kings, Buddy Guy, and Joe Louis Walker make it hard to resist the urge to dance in another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
