Helen Sernett, a sleep Evangelist and a Podcast host of Sleep Lists. What a wonderful topic. We many times don't sleep because we want to be awake for the life we want to be having. But sleep deprivation can send you to a state of health.Helen shares her own experience that not sleeping well was causing her health issues. So she went looking for ways to sleep to counter that need to be awake and for something to stop all that Monkey Brain, to stop the overthinking. So after a while, she couldn't find it so she created her own way to do this. When you are working long days, you do have that feeling of not wanting to lose out on those hours you want to stay up to no lose the time of life with you!All those thoughts... that make you lose sleep. I still have issues. I don't have insomnia.I have the issue of wanting every day of my life to matter and it keeps me up.Helen taught me about what happens at night. What your body does when it sleeps and what you do when you don't sleep to deprive your internal organs.Very interesting. We all know that sleep is important but some of us don't care to listen to it. What can sleep do for you? Find out more. And did you know you can break up 8 hours a day in half in a day? And that you cannot catch up. Day by night 8 hours. Not broken by 4 hours one night and 12 the next. It's 8 hours a day.Do you sleep all night dream about memories.. and how does your brain stop dreaming? What does it mean if you are dreaming about trauma and you keep dreaming about it? Listen to find out. If your brain can't process the trauma that you can't figure out, apparently your brain's dreams are trying to process it...Helen was a wonderful guest. This dream and sleep are very interesting. And I shared that while bulimic I only saw black and white and dark. Since my recovery, I have seen colour again. I love what Helen spoke to this. We also brought up Benjamin, the Dream Wizard. He is fascinating and both Helen and I were on his Podcast. A plug for you... Benjamin. :)Hitting a low point can maybe cause dark.. and this was so interesting... I loved this.So much more than I can write here. Please listen. SLEEP. Are you asked about sleep by your Doctor?Know you sleep 1/3 of your life. Find the right bed~You can find Helen in her Podcast Sleep Lists. Does beauty point to the existence of God? Or can we explain it away as a “spandrel,” an unintentional side effect of natural selection? And if beauty DOES point to God, what role should it play in Christian evangelization… and liturgy? Have you ever started to clean the powder room and then 2 hours later you found yourself on a different floor, pictures off the wall, the bed stripped, a hammer in one hand, and a computer in your lap with the Amazon tab open and it's 4 minutes until you have to leave to pick up the kids? Welcome to my Monkey Brain! Or maybe, one of your kids exhibits this behavior? This episode will help you turn your magical Monkey Brain into a productivity powerhouse! At least in spurts. As a Manifesting Generator, it is nearly impossible to focus on one task. And that's how I am designed. My Human Design that is. It's how I am able to envision an entire space or project in one instant. Thinking big, and bold, and creative is what I am designed to do. This makes the simple "to do's" nearly impossible or feel constrictive and icky, so I a system is the key. In this episode, I give you the exact steps you need (or can teach your child) to work with that delightful expansive brain and GET THINGS DONE! I give them to you in a way that you can tailor to your or your child's needs. To feel accomplished. And build confidence! Moving away from your limiting beliefs-which are what really hold you back from what you want. For the complete show notes, go to the episode webpage.
A Mahomet athlete, turned bartender, turned soldier, turned law office personnel, turned Reiki Practitioner, turned sound healer, turned real estate entrepreneur turned wife and mom (and not necessarily in that order) has lived a thousand lives. Amanda uses hard work, serenity and a mindset of evolution as the basis for her personal growth. Listen as Amanda tells me about carrying crystals in her pocket during basic training, choosing a (mobile) home as a place to spread seeds over planting roots, changing the trajectory of her life after a DUI, learning from failed and abusive relationships, marrying the nice guy, the challenges of being a new mom and what the majority of this episode focuses on—holistic modalities. Holistic modalities!? ASMR, crystals, meditation, Reiki, sound healing and yoga. Amanda will play a variety of instruments that create healing, meditative sounds much like the ones you'll hear in the increasingly popular ritual of sound baths. These sounds make me MELT, and I hope you'll find them hypnotic, too. Amanda is the most fascinating mix of assertive and sweet, soft spoken and spirited.I'd like to thank this episode's sponsor, Hudson Farms in Urbana. Did you know that only 3% of the world's population is dancing around ‘enlightenment' as a way of being? That's according to Alan Davidson, the best selling author of the multi award winning book, Body Brilliance: Mastering Your Five Vital Intelligences. He claims that as the number of enlightened people grows another 3 or 4% the problems that plague humanity now will dramatically shift. "As 10% of the world's population shifts into full enlightened consciousness,” he says “a tipping point of transformation will make life on earth a very different experience.” In today's episode we talk about how we can play a role in raising the collective conscious by learning to quiet the monkey brain and listen to our soul voice. I argue that the way to enlightenment is on a path through the forest. Highlight's from this episode: The monkey brain keeps you living in the past or fretting about the future. The monkey brain prevents you from being present. Being present in the now is what is required to achieve enlightenment. Connecting with nature helps to create presence of mind Only when you are present will you hear your the guidance of you soul voice Lau Tzu: “At the centre of your being you have the answer. You know who you are and you know what you want.” 30 Day Challenge - to invest 20 - 30 minutes in nature every day getting present with your environment. According to Buddhist principles, the “monkey mind” or "monkey brain" is a term that refers to being unsettled, restless, or confused. ... It is also the part of your brain that is alert for any danger. The "monkey brain" is neither bad or good. This is when we get to decide the role we are going to assign the "monkey brain" to either let it be in control of our lives, with fear, hopelessness, and anxiety, or to only do its one job and warn us of danger. When we receive those warnings, this is where we get to assess and make a decision with or prefrontal cortex, based on what will serve us best. The "monkey brain" sends us a warning message, we believe the message and we feed it and when we feed it, it becomes reality and our perception changes. We only see what we are focused on. All this because the "monkey brain" has been in charge all along. Our brains are programmed to see what's wrong, therefore, that's what it's always looking for. It finds negative thoughts that create negative emotions, which is the opposite of self confidence. If we have 9 out of 10 positive things, we spend all our energy on the one negative aspect and forget all about the other 9. We cannot block our thoughts and emotions… they are simply going to always be there. Which ones we choose to obey, believe or listen to is what makes a huge difference. This is where our agency lies in the thoughts we choose. The master we choose to listen to. The key is to learn to question all those thoughts and beliefs. Ask yourself: "What's the worst that can happen? Is this true? Can I find evidence of its opposite? Is this going to be for the best?"We are in control! We decide what are the thoughts that will give us the result we want. If we are not seeing the results we want, it's because we are not having the thought that is conducive to that result or action.
