Originally from Chicago, Jordan Lieb studied in Massachusetts before relocating to New York in 2001 to pursue a career in music. He met Francis Harris (circa 2010), whilst Harris was looking for a studio to mix down his debut album ‘Leland‘. This initial friendship blossomed into a mutual kinship that resulted in Jordan releasing the first two vinyl releases on @scissorandthread. Jordan's second studio album ‘Ghosts‘ is a woozy deep house LP packing 15 chugging grooves, analogue synth melodies and sultry vocals that will appeal to the deepest of house heads. In the interview below, we find out more about the makings of the album, its cryptic artwork, collaborations with vocalist Léah Lazonick and his long-standing admiration for all things Terre Thaemlitz, alongside studio gear and his approach to using social media.

BRIAN THABAULT is a force to be reckoned with, there’s more to know about his involvement in the scene then we could possibly get across in this post. With over 13 years in the booth, he originally got his start as a producer, then started DJing in college being that nobody else was and felt that vibe was lacking. Born and raised in Vermont then moved to Montana, got connected with the Fox Den. He was a part of that crew and involved in organizing parties and residencies around the state. Eventually Brian packed up shop and moved to Brooklyn. If you’re not in the know, that part of NYC is the staple of the warehouse party scene. He’s still involved in our local scene managing a record label consisting of several Montanans and providing a sound that’s lacking in our region. If you haven’t heard him play at festivals in Montana, Burning Man, parties in NYC, Miami, Portland Oregon, or Burlington Vermont then here’s your chance to get down to his melodic sound. Rumor has it he’ll be making a return to a stage MT this summer. A few words from the man himself. I’m inspired by my surroundings, my friends who produce music and DJ. I recorded this mix live at a private rooftop party in Brooklyn. Filled with Deep House, Breakbeats and Minimal. 'Deep house' has become one of those dirty words to me. The stuff masquerading as deep house really isn't all that deep and possibly isn't even that house-y, but it's big on groove, vocals and sounds a bit nu-disco-esque too. On top of that, there's a big sound that's coming out of London and Bristol that's very bass driven that also seems to get classed into this 'deep house' banner, when really it's more influenced by 2 Step, UK Garage, Dubstep and Speed Garage. I didn't like speed garage the first time around in the mid-1990s, but for some reason I love the modern incarnation of it. There's a lot of different music out there masquerading as different genres right now. Progressive House is actually poppy dance music. Deep House isn't exactly deep or aruguably that housey. Melodic Techno is actually Progressive House trying not to be Progressive House because that genre has been poop-i-fied by the liked of Deadmau5 et. al, so it can't call itself that... After a short break over the summer period spent basking in rays of sun we are back with our 18th instalment of the podcast series and a mix from a very special guest, Donga.
